hi eds,

with PSG looking to take mbappe on loan do u think arsenal will swoop in to rescue Julian Draxler (perhaps on loan) , it appears his playing time will be limited. thanks.

{Ed002's Note - I have explained what I know about Draxler.}

With PSG looking to take Mbappe on loan, what are our chances of resigning Éboue? Solves the RWB we don't really have.

23 Aug 2017 06:40:46
Perhaps Draxler is one of the options Wenger has up his sleeve to replace Sanchez. I can't see Sanchez staying as he appears to want out and I can't seriously believe that Arsenal will forgo a possible £35-70m asset to go for free at the end of the season. The same goes for Ox and Ozil. It makes absolutely no sense that someone such as Wenger would allow over £100m worth of talent to leave for nothing at the end of the season. The one that worries me most from a financial point of view is Oizil as I'm not sure here are any takers at a substantial fee, plus the wages he would require.

We are not going to win anything because we carry too much deadwood even on our first team. Sorry to say this, the three at back formation does not suit bellerin.

The boy can defend but going forward he is really poor. He can't dribble, he can't cross or even shoot. wenger was right to sacrifice him for the Ox last season. If we play a back four, fine but if we play three at the back the formation does not suit him.

welbeck is another terrible player also. I understand what giroud offers but what does welbeck offer? Nothing. Just runs with no end product. He can't finish and wastes chance after chance. We need to get rid of him.

Both xhaka and ramsey are a liability defensively in the centre of the pitch. They can't play together. We need santi replacement as soon as possible. Never understood why wenger never adressed that position since we collapse every time cazorla gets injured.

In summary all i am saying is we need a centre half, a right wing back someone who can attack and defend, a central midfielder in the mould of cazorla and two wingers if sanchez leaves. Anything short of that, there is no way we are going to challenge for the title.

We won't challenge for the title, waste of time even talking about it.

Deadwood is such a nasty name.

Just saying.

Bellerin can't defend and offensively his final ball is poor. We need a proper RB that can defend and CB's that are not LB's!

Ah lads, their earning tens of thousands a week I think if you told them theyd earn that but be open to criticism and potentially being labeled deadwood theyd snap your hand off.
Honestly these crusades taken by some people to defend the honour and virtue of some players who barely acknowledge or can relate to our fans and a manager who runs faster than some of our players down the tunnel after a defeat when years ago players earning a fraction wanted to interact with us as often as they could especially away from home is quite baffling.
Not havin a pop at you dags but the hyper sensitivity to anything towards the players or manager that isn't complimentary is just counter productive to raising standards, i'm not saying insult their mothers but theyv a job to do same as the rest of us. RESPONSIBILITY to the jersey AND ACCOUNTABILITY to yourself as a sportsman are sorely lacking at this club and are the chief reasons behind our sorry state.
I mean somebody tell me if Mesut Ozil is hurting as much as the guy in the stands at Stoke on Saturday.

100% Agree Shambo, give me 80 big ones a week and i will take all the abuse you want to give me. Rotten tomatoes as well.

21 Aug 2017 11:01:35
The fact remains shambo the correct way to describe those individuals is surplus to requirements or no longer needed etc. Deadwood is much the same as piece of s**t or less than human which is not the case. And why people fixate on what players get paid is beyond me. And having an attitude as to them getting paid lots makes it all ok and they should then take the name calling is moronic. I'm sure it was only the other day you were on you high horse about been mr constructive and you don't resort to name calling. Yet another poster who can't remember what he posts from day to day and just argues the toss for the sake of looking like he knows what the score is🙄.

There you go again sano, this is an arsenal site about arsenal, not individuals. You just don't like it when people have a different opinion to you, if they do like lanesra, you have to make it personal. No need.

It's all about opinion's mate.

To me, if they have wore an Arsenal shirt, be it a regular or benchwarmer, than they possibly deserve some respect.

The likes of Nasri and Adebayor I have no problem if you refer to them as deadwood, as they were money grabbing mercenaries, but the current "Deadwood" are the likes of Perez, Chambers, Debuchy, Jenkinson, and even Cazorla, who I don't think deserve to be called deadwood.

But hey, just my opinion.

21 Aug 2017 13:43:33
Getting bored of it are we steve. I though this was an arsenal site for arsenal fans/ supporters but it appears I'm wrong on that front as well. To be fair I welcome the banter from fans of a rival team as long as their not pretending to be Arsenal supporters.

It takes one loss for the storm crows and the I told you Arsenal are naff brigade come out wearing thier Wenger out banners.

21 Aug 2017 17:12:30
The expression dead wood simply means people or things that are no longer useful and I fail to see why people are offended by the use of such an expression which clearly applies to some of our players; Debuchy, Jenkinson, Gibbs, Perez, Akpom, etc. None of which are useful to the club.

{Ed002's Note - It is very offensive.}

 1 1

21 Aug 2017 17:39:35
Ed002 - I think we will have to beg to differ, although it's not an expression I would use, I don't find it offensive, as it merely refers to people or in this case players that are no longer useful. Of course one must not take the actual words literally, which I'm sure nobody with an ounce of intelligent does.

{Ed002's Note - Players and clubs absolutely hate the term being used.}

21 Aug 2017 20:33:57
I think people forget how good you have to be just to play in the top 2 leagues in this country. People go on like it's ten a penny to play for an elite club.

 3 0

21 Aug 2017 21:12:10
RG if friends stated referring to you as deadwood would you be flatted or offend? Of course it's a derogatory comment and when used about people who simply despite their best efforts haven't quite made the level required is unnecessary and undeserved.
There is never a good reason to be rude about people who do all they can even if that sometimes isn't quite enough.

20 Aug 2017 15:20:03
ed002 you previously said you expect arsenal to both sign players and sell players, do you still hold that prediction?

{Ed002's Note - Certainly Ibraim. They need to clear the decks and add a little more.}

 0 0

20 Aug 2017 15:35:19
Is there a risk Arsenal are pricing players too highly, ed002?

{Ed002's Note - Yes but they know they have to be reasonable in order to move them on.}

20 Aug 2017 17:06:18
Does the sale of Gabriel, who wasn't previously listed as surplus to requirements, change potential departures? In other words, does this mean one of Chambers/ Jenkinson/ Gibbs/ Debuchy stays (maybe because no one is interested? ) ?

{Ed002's Note - Chambers.}

I think I'd have rathered chambers stay than Gabriel. Perhaps a loan deal would be more suited. He's young and there does seem to be some promise there.

20 Aug 2017 00:54:10
Wenger has cost us the points there. Anyone who watched pre season and against leicester could see the balance is all wrong at the back. You can maybe get away with one wb in the back 3 but to have 2 is just taking the mickey really. monreal marshalling the back 3 is a joke and we will never see the best of kolasinac till he is playing lwb. It seems he is trying to accomodate the ox and bellerin but neither can play lwb effectively. A back 3 of mustafi, mert and monreal with ox and kola as wing back i believe would have won us the game. Monreal is not a central starter in our back 3 and neither ox or bellerin can play lwb. Sort it out and get the cover in wenger because if we play that same back 3 against liverpool it will be 4 or 5.

20 Aug 2017 02:15:36
Is that you Steve. r.

 2 0

20 Aug 2017 03:33:42
I agree with you kcrider but the strange thing was Monreal was our best cb on yesterday, imo. Mustafi was awful and very lucky not to cost us a goal.
Bellerin? Ox is a much better rwb and as a lwb I think anyone else you could name would be better.

And why are we offering big money for Ozil? I remember about 2 years ago the guy would produce chances - loads of them. Not anymore.

Finally, I had very high hopes for Xhala this year but he has been at fault for all 4 goals we conceded this year. He was, after all outjumped by Okazaki!

{Ed001's Note - Monreal was at fault for the goal.}

 0 1

20 Aug 2017 06:22:50
I agree with kcider. Trying to accommodate the Ox and Bellerin together in the lineup was stupid and if he doesn't learn from this it will cost us points again and again.

Holding should really have started and Monreal is LCB/ LWB or bench. If he can't be ruthless now it doesn't matter who we sign. Without Kos and Alexis we are looking feeble.

20 Aug 2017 09:33:54
I think monreal is an important and good player for us. but he works either on the left of our back 3 or us lwb. I think playing him in the centre of the back 3 is showing arrogance to the quality of premiership teams and strikers and we have been punished in both games by conceding cheap goals. Also name me any top teams that don't play a left footed player at lwb and a
right footer at rwb? That alone creates more opportunity to stretch teams and create chances. There is no excuse really for a club with arsenals size to not have the cover in for the start of the season.

20 Aug 2017 10:44:29
Kcider Liverpool played Milner, chelski played aspilaqueta, the problem is when the player is not actually good enough. I don't know what people see in bellarin anyway, he's a squad player at best.

 0 0

20 Aug 2017 10:52:29
I reckon we have the cover - playing a back 3 of Holding/ Mustafi/ Monreal would have been fine - even Chambers could and should have played under the circumstances. It's almost as if he feels compelled to give the Ox minutes in order to make sure he doesn't go to Chelsea, but honestly 35m is a fair bit more than he's worth. Take the money and pick up Lemar.

Love the club but Wenger and the board really do my head in sometimes. They made promises this summer and at the end of last season - they absolutely need to stick to them.

20 Aug 2017 14:04:07
Why would Barcelona want one of squad players Steve?
Belerin is an excellent player trying to fit into a jigsaw puzzle made up of all the wrong pieces.
We have full backs playing as Centre backs and cmf player's playing full backs and 2 players who don't really fit in anywhere playing cmf.
No wonder no one looks like world beaters within that set up.
Arsene is favourite player pleasing and trying to get Ox to stay when naming his team.
Arsenes idea of ballance is more focused in the changing room that on the pitch.

20 Aug 2017 15:16:07
Steve r, you mentioned azpelequeta and milner playing lwb as right footers. Are either still playing there? their managers realised and bought in left footers in alonso and robertson. You will always be playing within yourself if your wb is not playing on the correct side. Not so important with wingers but definitely is with full backs.

20 Aug 2017 17:20:24
Kcid just pointing out, they were short and did a good job. Gunner I've said it before bellarin would be better suited in the Spanish league. Barcelona didn't want him that badly, I believe they only wanted to pay 15 mil anyway.

Ed. Any truth in the Draxler rumours and do you think he could do a job for us?

Cheers.

{Ed002's Note - Draxler has been offered to two clubs without the permission of PSG who have no interest in selling him.}

Sorry to see Gabriel depart as I liked his attitude. However, not learning English during his 2 year stay clearly didn't help and he was. disappointing on the pitch. It appears that Wenger will be giving Chambers a chance to resurrect his career at the club, although I can't say I'm over-enthusiastic about his chances of making it at the club.

Presumably Chambers can provide cover at RB and may form a good partnership with his international colleague Holding. So we look like starting the season with 5 CB's of which two are young players coming through. I have a feeling that Wenger may opt to use Monreal as a CB, Kolasinac at LWB. We now have only 7 players to cover the 5 defensive positions, which is a tad worrying. Mind you Ox, if he stays can play at RWB.

 2 0

19 Aug 2017 05:35:09
RWB: Bellerin, (Ox) , Maitland-Niles, Nelson
CB: Koscielny, Mustafi, Mertesacker, Chambers, Holding, Monreal, Bielik (Kolasinac)
LWB: Kolasinac, (Monreal) , Ox, Bramall

Assuming Jenkinson, Debuchy, Gibbs go and Ox stays, that's a reasonably strong starting trio of Kos, Mustafi, Mertesacker/ Holding at CB though we could arguably do with an upgrade, and Bellerin/ Kola at wingback has the potential to be best in the league. I think Ox will get less game time in defence (and overall) once the window shuts. Decent depth too as I rate Bielik.

I think letting Gabriel go was the right move, as Holding has shown a lot of promise despite his shaky game against Leicester. Not too worried about defence as it only looked exposed when we lacked our 3 starting CBs - much more worried about midfield. Seri/ Goretzka should be our top priority and Draxler if we can get him.

19 Aug 2017 06:40:20
Hi Wire - without doubling up player's position-wise and including youngsters that in almost all cases are nowhere near ready for the first team:
RWB: Bellerin and Ox
LWB: Kolasinac and Monreal
CB: Mertesacker, Mustafi, Chambers, Holding and Koscielny
Total of 9 players for 5 defensive positions, including Ox, who may depart despite what Wenger is stating. With Gabriel it would have been 10, so two players for each position.
As far as the youngsters go, of the ones you mentioned only Nelson looks at present to have the ability to play in the first team, the rest need to be loaned out to gain experience whilst they mature as players. In Nelson's case he looks to have the ability, but he looked a more offensive player and I'm nt sure about the defensive side of his game. I still feel we need another CB and a replacement for Ox if he departs.

any truth in the Shkodran Mustafi rumours ed.

I just seen a post saying Sky Italia are reporting that inter have asked Arsenal about him.

{Ed001's Note - ah ok, I don't know but I don't know of any interest in selling him from Arsenal.}

thanks Ed001, it would seem a strange move imo.

a loan they were looking for, are they taking the p. or what.

 1 0

18 Aug 2017 17:10:38
Must admit I'm surprised. Sky in Italy is saying we rejected it and they are likely to come in with a permanent bid and we are looking too recoup most of what we paid, surely we are not considering selling.

 0 0

18 Aug 2017 17:33:39
Paper talk state that he is in talks with Inter Milan over a 34m transfer.

 0 0

18 Aug 2017 19:26:00
If we were thinking of letting him go or he was unhappy and wants out surely we wouldn't have sold Gabriel in the same window so for that reason alone it sounds a bit far fetched but if you add the fact they are willing to give us what we paid for him thars really far fetched, he wasn't great last season in the main more average than outstanding imo.

 1 0

18 Aug 2017 20:19:19
Only thing i can think is that we are looking to cash in on him for £35mill-ish and invest in Van Dijk. wishfull thinking of course but surley we are not thinking of letting him go otherwise, madness!

 2 0

18 Aug 2017 20:54:20
He started ok last season but after Xmas he looked like he was struggling with it all. Still think we won't sell him though.

 1 0

18 Aug 2017 23:05:30
And now Arsenal want to re-coop the money the spent and will listen to offers of £35m. let's make our defence worse!

17 Aug 2017 18:46:04
Sorry ed I did search but could find exactly what I was after. Do you know if there's a change in heart about chambers being no longer required. I ask because Gabriel looks set to go and I don't recall you saying he was one of the ones we was open to selling. and if chambers goes I wonder if they'll step up a search for another Cb. Or do people believe it's because monreal and the new kolasniac can play there? Open to people's opinion on this.

Thanks either way Ed I appreciate you must be busy.

{Ed002's Note - I know nothing about any "change of heart".}

18 Aug 2017 06:41:38
More odd Wenger deals. We appear to be selling Gabriel for less than we paid for him and at a sale fee that would be less than the cost of a decent Championship CB. Now news emerging that Inter are interested in Mustafi! Of course Wenger is intending using either Monreal or Kolasinac, both left backs or in Kolasinac's case a LWB, as CB's. Has he not learnt that converting players rarely works. You only have to look at Bellerin and Gibbs, both offensive players as youngsters, converted into full backs that can;t tackle or defend. The CB situation is really concerning as we only have 5 CB's once Gabriel departs. Of these Mertesacker is in his final season, Koscielny is in his thirties and carries permananent injury, Holding and Chmbers are both young and inexperienced. Indeed we seemed set to sell Chambers if Palace had met our valuation. I would love to see us sign Van Dijk and another CB, such as Johnny Evans. We need a RB that can defend as well as attack and next season we will need to replace the aging Monreal and Cech.
