Just a quick question for you all, I don't know how many (if any of you) read the review of the day news round up I do each day, but on a Monday I used to do an 'And Finally. ' section on the end with footballing anecdotes based around a theme. After chatting with a group of people on the Liverpool site, they have requested I turn that into a separate longer article that I do regularly.

Anyway, for those that are interested in reading it, what kind of anecdotes would you be interested in:

Would you like it to just stick to football only?

Would you be interested in any sports-based anecdotes?

Or would you want it to also include slightly unrelated anecdotes as well? As in just something funny (well I hope it would be funny anyway! ) that came to mind.

Hey Ed I enjoy your reviews, it's stuff you don't often see in papers, anything funny or interesting that's not generally covered would interest me, but it is a sports site so if it was totally random it might be a bit weird 😂.

{Ed001's Note - I just mean that I have a habit of getting off track when I don't have a specific topic I am working on. Like when I put a reply to a question I can end up rambling and the reply ends up telling some story about when my great-grandad escaped from prison, changed his name and ended up becoming headmaster of a prestigious private school. Just because, as you type one thing leads on to another if you are not strict with your topic. Basically I was just asking if people wanted me to strictly stick to football, open it up to all sports or just start on a theme and see where it takes me.}

Personally Ed001 I like all the antidotes, like when you met Arsene at the tailors and your uncle working in TV which lead to you revealing to us how the pundits are fed what to talk about before the show starts.
You ramble on all you like mate because the fact i can still remember your articles years after you wrote them means they've got to be interesting, funny or both.

{Ed001's Note - wow, I am impressed that you can remember as I can't! I have sent Ed033 a test article to post up, once he has checked it over for errors it should be up soon. I thought it would appeal to you as it is (sort of) about the good old days, and you are usually one of the first people that come to mind when the word old is used.....

And thank you mate, I truly appreciate that. Amazed but really pleased they have made a positive impression!

Oh, by the way, have you seen the footage of Joe Cole and Rio Ferdinand talking off camera? They proved my point for me, as they were making completely different points off camera, when they were actually speaking their mind. Well, in the case of Cole, I think mind is overstating it. I have known goldfish with more intelligence and better conversation.}

I remember the roaring 1920s like yesterday mate, mind you I had only just retired then :-)
It's really interesting to get the inside info on stuff and people most of us will never get to meet or really know away from the camara mate.
On a personal level I've always liked Arsene Wenger very very much but I've never met him so it was really good to hear your first hand account of actually meeting him.

{Ed001's Note - me mam has actually met him a lot more times than I have and I am sure Ed002 has probably met him a lot more times than both of us put together!}

Your much more candid than ed02 Ed . Does ed02 shroud himself In mystery on purpose Ed or is it just professionalism on his behalf. He definitely plays the enigma role very well. Are you two personal friends or just acquaintances. Been candid I expect a full answer 😂.

{Ed002's Note - I could not be bothered to read all of the drivel, but I am better looking than the oher Eds, I do indeed have appendages to be proud of (the mighty love truncheon as we would know it), but I am still confident and supportive of the tiny todger club - which is what I assume you are discussing.}

I was hoping your all seeing eye would have missed this and the answer I was was looking for (not always the the right answer ) was given. I have underestimated you again Ed.

{Ed033's Note - Ed002 is the all seeing eye of the illuminati.

Man Utd and Mourinho, our constant nemesis, either individually or together.

Emery is so far pulling some fabulous rabbits out of the hat so the pressure mounts, 19 games unbeaten adds to it.

Another opportunity for him to give us that bit more faith in him.

I am impressed so far, I love the clear team spirit, the effort and some of the genuinely good football but equally am not yet believing the hype. We are 14 games into a season and still with a lot to prove.

I have absolutely no idea what the score will be tonight but it would be great to come away with something.

I’m hoping it’s a curse on wenger not Arsenal. On current form you would have to say 3-1ish we are still easy or easier to score against than most, certainly the big 5 anyway. I’m still going for a win on the premise that it’s unai not Arsene because I remember a few years ago when we were in a similar although not quite as good a run and we were playing united reserves or near as damn it and ended up loosing. These are all monkeys that Emery needs to peel of the Arsenal back.

I remember that brow and it totally derailed us! I was so excited before the game too so this time I'm filled with apprehension!

I think both sets of fans would take a draw right now and I think Jose might too but Dick always wants 3pts but grudgingly accepts 1pt is better than nothing.
I thought against Liverpool he'd have been as pleased as we all were at getting a point but right to the final whisle he was urging the players forward looking for those 2 missing points he wanted badly, hard not to love his mentality passion and commitment that seems to have spread to every corner of the club already.
Things are certainly looking the best they've been for years from where I'm sitting.

I think going on form a draw would be disappointing. If we win I think we can say we’re shaking off the curses and move forward!

G'day Ed's, I can't believe I'm asking this, but could our polarising enigma, Mesut Ozil really be one of the players that Unai Emery is looking to replace?

Repeated criticism of the player and his absence from the squad in key matches has left me wondering.

Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - The problem the club has is in selling him - finding a buyer who will match his wages. They will be regretting giving him a new contract and payrise earlier this year.}

Fair point Ed, not many clubs have £350k/ week lying around. Unless Real Madrid are open to taking him back, you think we could be stuck without a buyer?

I would certainly be interested in an Isco-Ozil swap, not sure how possible that is.

It seems Emery is keen on having someone more robust and with a higher work rate, although I find myself in awe of MO10's skill and grace at times.

It's a hard call for me.

{Ed002's Note - Arsenal will be stuck with him unless they cut him lose of his contract or a buyer can be found. Real Madrid has no interest in him and Arsenal has no interest in Isco.}

29 Nov 2018 20:47:01
Thanks for the info Ed, the press was reporting interest in Isco from Arsenal and others, hence why I asked.

Thanks for clearing that up.

{Ed002's Note - I would not hold your breath about Isco but there is interest in him from elsewhere and it seems a discussion was held during a meeting of various clubs in Milan on Tuesday evening.}

Judging from team selctions and instinct I have a feeling certain players will ultimately be moved on by Emery. I like Emery's decisiveness.
It will be interesting to see what happens with the following players:
Ramsey: Out of contract this summer. Moving on.
Welbeck: Out of contract in the summer and recuperating from a serious ankle injury.
Monreal: Out of contract this summer.
Cech: Out of contract this summer.
Lichtsteiner: Out of contract this summer.

The following players may also be moved on this summer:
Jenkinson
Koscielny
Elneny

I believe that Ozil and Mkhitaryan may also be surplus to requirements, but as Ed002 stated, it will be difficult to find clubs able and willing to match their extraordinarily inflated wage packets. Unless there is demand from China and the players are willing to go there. Interesting and enjoyable times at the club.

I don't get why we don't just enjoy having Mesut Ozil, when he's hot he's worth watching any game he graces and when he's not so hot he's never alone.
If Dick doesn't want him that's his choice and I back him in it because he has his own plans of course.
But if Mesut Ozil is ever the worst player on our books we will have some team that's for sure.
Only 3 Arsenal player make the combined Spurs/ Arsenal 11 from voting fans of all clubs and Mesut is 1 of our 3 players, makes you think, doesn't it?

Combined 11s are a joke g62, but agree with the rest of your post.

Could we bring in Cesc? I’m sure he would love to and could he be the one to take xhakas place and a player I’m sure would be able to translate emery’s plans in the middle, fat far superior player to Xhaka and I’m sure the price would be right. Thoughts guys.

A little bit too regressive a move for me. Sorry.

29 Nov 2018 14:15:12
No Cesc, no thank you. Angled his move away when we needed him most and he was our captain, burned bridges I'm afraid.

Plus, the Xhaka-Torreira axis is looking quite promising imo, I think they compliment each other well.

Even the hardest Xhaka critiques must admit that he looks far improved this season, although he's still an error waiting to happen at times.

With ME4 and AR8 both leaving, we'll definitely need midfield bodies, but who? Could Emery possibly look to any members of his former club? Maybe the wise Eds could chime in? ;)

Cheers,

Yes every time for me, Cesc turned down a return to groundhog Arsenal something lots of top players did also because they didn't want to simply go through the motions and pick up an easy pay packet.
The past is the past and an eye for an eye attitude leaves the whole world blind.

{Ed002's Note - Fabregas will be moving but not to Arsenal. He will have plenty of offers and an intriguing one is that Chelsea were approached by one side to see if they would let him go in January and they would step back from being interested in the player Chelsea are chasing as his replacement. But a move to Arsenal is not on the cards.}

*cough* AC Milan - Denis Suarez *cough*.

Is Denis Suarez even a similiar player to Fabregas?

Nelson scored his latest goal for Hoffenheim, a winner against Augsburg, just two minutes after being introduced as a sub.

It took his record in the Bundesliga this season to six goals from just 327 minutes, making him the most prolific goalscorer across Europe.

It's always good to see one of the youngsters doing well anyone watched him this season.

Caught some of his performances here and there. Aggressive running, great positioning, and his finishes have been really composed. I've half a mind to say he's a better option than anyone we can offer on the right flank but I hope the club let him stick out the year over there, he's getting invaluable experience.

Ed02 are we looking at under from roma for the rw position? Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - Yes, but only after deciding he is not tall enough as a goalkeeper.}

He still might be a good shot stopper ed.

Hi Eds, I've read a lot about Arsenal re-kindling their interest in Pablo Fornals this January. Any truth to the rumours we could be replacing Elneny with him? Cheers.

{Ed002's Note - Elneny is a far more defensive player than Fornals so I don't see him as being a replacement. However, Leicester have spoken with Arsenal about ME and I understand Arsenal are happy to let him move on. As for Pablo Fornals, in the summer of 2017 Arsenal set their heart on either Fornals or Jakub Jankto and with the preferred choices for the midfield position (like Rabiot and Zielinski) now probably out of reach perhaps they will consider him again as an option to the likes of Hector Herrera who is available and of interest. I cannot see Villareal being open to a sale in January.}

Any truth in the Denis Suarez rumours eds? Not sure how he would cope in the Premier League, could be a good signing.

{Ed002's Note - Denis Suarez is a player who is reluctant to leave Barcelona but is concerned at the lack of game time. Barcelona need to raise funds to help with planned changes and are open to offers - and there is interest from Valencia and Lazio - but the interest of Napoli will have drifted away. I am not aware of interest being shown by Arsenal at this time. They have other targets so could perhaps turned to him if they are unable to secure any of those.}

Hello Ed002, do arsenal have any targets in the January transfer window that you see could happen?

{Ed002's Note - I cannot really answer on the timing of transfers, clubs don't look to sell in January as it is difficult to replace players. Arsenal do need a right sided winger and a CM player and could soon need to look again at the CBs and a GK. But the scouts are continuing to look hard at players.}

Ed, based on the above : any interest in Hector Herrera. Seems to tick a lot of boxes for our midfield.
Thanks in advance.

{Ed002's Note - I would not hold your breathe.}

Thanks Ed, maybe I’m wrong but with Rabbiot contract expiring next summer (I think) , would you expect arsenal to either attempt to sign him in January or even sign a pre-contract agreement with him?

{Ed002's Note - No, I don’t expect that to happen.}
