What I want to say is I believe in wenger. yes, I know he still didn't buy anyone apart from sanogo. but I don't know why I feel so calm and believe we will get a few new player (3 and above) because wenger is not an person. he know he must buy because he sold and released a few player that we used in the team last season (like gervinho).
So keep calm and believe in wenger (although you are wenger-hater).
And for ed, can you enlighten me about perez? And gustavo maybe? {Ed027's Note - now Perez has played do the first team, I expect him to sign. We are in talks over Gustavo

Was I the only one who thought jack didn't look so sharp today? Top performance from the team though. Personally think jenko wasn't so good today either and has been poor in last few preseasons. We definitely need a few more signings thoughl CDM ST and CB and think we need a keeper too

Gary Medel moving to Cardiff for around £11m

I know we weren't in for him, but I really feel he'd of been perfect for what we need in Midfield right now.
Still, Wenger knows!

i loved every minute of it. I can happily tell I saw about two men in sky blue shirts the whole day. helsinki was red today.

aaron ramsey is a monster. the only undroppable man of our midfield imo (especially if gustavo comes to compete with mainly arteta). the new guy perez did fairly well, at least with the ball. I hope he signs and I think he will, otherwise we wouldn't have given him such a chance. perez and gustavo in and we're good with the midfield.

koscielny was just as immense as ramsey. in fact the whole defense was such a firm unit. city often passed their way so close only to their flow being ruthlessly interrupted.

the questions about the striker remain. I like podolski's link-up but he doesn't seem to get to the end of the crosses at all. imo he's a winger/wide forward. giroud i'm pleased with but it has been said that we need that another man and we'll surely get somebody. walcott will score 15+ goals in the league comfortably but from the wing similarly to podolski.

i don't know if wenger has decided about the goalkeeper because both got as much to play. both are capable imo but they have to prove it.

generally i'm excited and expecting surely at least 3 signings (not including perez) because you can see the squad is so thin. even wenger said something about being a little short and for me that's huge news considering it's from wenger.

I always like aaron ramsey. I know that one day, he will be an important player for us. last few season, a few 'fan' want him to be sold. but they are so wrong.

with miquel on loan we either need 2 centre backs or a right back and a center back either way we need 2 new defenders. I wouldn't mind seeing one younger player signed/promoted but I think we need at least one new defender with proven class to come in. what do people think?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

More likely to get one defender either a CB or RB (I'm guessing CB, probably ginter) and a DM capable of filling in at the back like Gustavo who is capable at playing at left back and DM as well as his usual position.

How did the trialist Perez play today? Is he worth signing?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Tidy player, nothing fancy, good reactions and gets back up real fast from a tackle, good because he applies pressure straight away instead of letting them escape after a missed tackle
good for depth, and future starter if he plays well enough

Luiz Gustavo has just confirmed on the trainings ground today, that his way leads to the Premier League. A journalist spoke to him.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Thanks. But which PL club! Hopefully its us, because I think chelski were sniffing around him as well.

Think he'll be a good signing for us - less expensive than fellini and better than Capoue imo.

i know its only a pre-season game but I was very impressed with lads.

we have just played 1 of the top clubs in our own league and stood up to them.
they had a their full team out there we showed more fight and heart than them.

big shout to all fans that made the trip and sang and booed their heart out.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

That awkward moment you claim to be best squad in premier league, spend over 50 million on players, and then go and lose to a team who are laughed at for a embarrassing attempt at trying to sign players.

Friendly or not, can't imagen that went down too well.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Didn't you or someone else post these exact words on the Liverpool page?

And we have made a signing in Sanogo.

Giroud has had a fantastic pre-season, really looking forward to seeing if he can keep this form up when the season starts!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Mate I'm really impressed with him. Great game. I can't wait for Aston Villa.

Agree0 Disagree0

Personally I expect him to reach 20+ goals across all competitions next year. Anyone else agree or am I being too optimistic?

Agree0 Disagree0

He wasn't far off that last season, so I'd say that is a pretty realistic prediction.

Agree0 Disagree0

Giroud rules! The boy is a magician and we are really going to see what he can do this season. I think he will tear the league up. Suarez who?

Kent Gooner

Agree0 Disagree0

Jackgooner, totally agree.
giroud did well in his first season and will be better this time. remember RVP was here for 8 seasons and it was only really in his last season he scored so many goals, prior to that he would average about 15 to 18 goals. giroud managed that in his first season

Great win today, Kos was excellent as was Sagna and Ramsey, we looked far more of a team than City.
Where did Perez spring out of, he did alright when he came on.
Wilshire, Walcott, Arteta, Gibbs all very good, Giroud applied a lovely neat finish, his eigth pre season strike.
We are looking good, two signings maybe to come yet, but a very positive day all round.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

10 Aug 2013 16:57:44
Nice win today, that's got to build some confidence ahead of the season, 3-1 maybe flattered us a bit but we had some decent finishing.

We struggled to keep hold of the ball for long periods of time, hopefully that was a consequence of lots of changes and also playing against a strong city side.
The difference in depths of squad could be decisive though come the end of the season.

Ramsey was my MOM, nice finish. Couldn't tell much about Perez but looked fairly tidy apart from his yellow card.
Sign those players we have on trial, we have a few decent youngsters and get a minimum of 3 first team signings and I will be happy.

is there any other reason for not buying to strengthen our team, we have all spoken about different theories, but must come to 2 conclusions, with 8days to the start of the season
1 we ware bringing in 4/5 players, good players not s***
2 arsene wenger and ivan gadizis have completely messed this window up, we are in trouble and last minute dash will follow.
my view is there is something serious going on at the club. think Ed02 knows but can't say anything yet, but I have heard this as well. this season may be a write off.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

As far a pre season games go this was a good One to win yet a few minutes later the doom merchants are back why don't ye all just shut the fup up and wait and see what happens you have heard nothing your peddling poo

Agree0 Disagree0

Actually mate posted this 2, days ago, still think we need 4/5 players, do you disagree?

Agree0 Disagree0

Also not a doom merchant, I'm a realist. didn't dis the team, just Wenger and gadizis, I support my team, arsenal not Wenger, I'll still be supporting them long after Wenger's left.

May be to late then, signings not only strengthen squads they also push our existing players, which is why we need 4/5 players.

a good performance so far against city, wilshire looks to be back to his best and walcotts had a good first half but you can see we are missing a top striker as podolski is not good enough in my opinion, when you look at our strike force compared to utd, city and chelsea you can see we fall well short.

Gustavo is on his way to even Arsenal or Chelsea!
With Ramires, Mikel and Lampard as mourinho first choices, he will choose Arsenal as he will be in the starting 11. If this deal fail we will go for Kondogbia.
Suarez will not come! Liverpool will never sell Arsenal their best player. Arsenal will look for another striker, Demba Ba or Eduardo Salvio (Benfica).
No CB will come as Wenger think that Sagna can fill the place if needed

NOTORIOUS L. F. C, i'm posting my response to your comment up here to make sure you see it.

First off. If your going to write a novel for a post, save it for your own page.

2ndly what a load of contradictive drivel, sweetened with a bit of A$$ kissing.

In one sentence you say "What I think Arsenal fans need to realise is that we (L'pool) simply don't want to sell to someone we see as potential rivals for 4th spot. "

Then further down you say "what you need to realise is that in our eyes while we may not have made champs league in a while we have still been competitive, while you have merely stagnated in the 4th spot. "

Basically your a joke mate. You come on here trying to tell us that we are stagnating in a league position that further up the paragraph you've already admitted to coveting.

You talk about being competitive. A league system, is the most competitive format of a competition clubs face throughout the season. Anybody can beat anybody on the day in a cup match. With the league you need to be competing every single match to finish as high as possible and while 4th is not a trophy, it's a position in the league that we have been able to achieve while you haven't.

If I can borrow your patronising turn of phrase and tell you WHAT YOU NEED TO RELISE hopefully a few home truths can sink in for you and I'm not going to sugar coat it with pretending to respect Liverpool because at the minute, they are just above the spurs to me.

WHAT YOU NEED TO RELISE - Your club is done and dusted. You are a mid-table outfit not even in Europa league and next season you'll finish up the exact same, maybe worse.

WHAT YOU NEED TO RELISE - Once Gerard retires and suarez is gone, the days of bigger clubs coming in and offering £40m+ for your players are over, just look at the crop of no names and has-beens Big mouth Rodgers has been forced to sign this summer. If they fail in the EPL this season, its curtains for the pool.

WHAT YOU NEED TO RELISE - You Liverpool fans are like the Archeologists of English football. Constantly going over the past like no other teams fanbase does that I know of. You should change the name of ANFIELD to JURASSIC PARK and change your motto from YOU'LL NEVER WALK ALONE to WALKING WITH DINOSAURS!

What you need to realise more than anything is that a large portion of Arsenal fans never wanted this transfer in the first place. Now however with the constant attack from you lot, I can't wait till we get him. Your clubs owner and Big Mouth Rodgers can't seem to shut up about it and even the amount of Historians-L/Pool fans on here JUST STINKS OF DESPERATION! You know how close to the scrap heap you are.

Anyway, Good luck for the season, enjoy your retirement as a club and hopefully you can stay clear of Swansea and Norwich.

We have one of the highest paid managers in the world, yet he appears to have no plan what so ever towards improving the team. It amases me that most fans have been able to see the weakness's in our team for the last few years yet Arsene can't. If in my line of work if I had planned so poorly for an upcoming project I would be classed as negligent and faced disciplinary action.

I am now stalking the web for info on players we are trying to sign but get left dissapointed when there is no news. He must be targeting someone as we can't surely go into the season with only three centre backs, two keepers and one centre forward ( I know we have theo and Poldoski)!

I do think we have the base of a very good squad with some excellent palyers, but it is so frustrating that teams above us last season and below us have strenghened and we haven't.

Sorry to ramble on but I love me team and have been supporting them for over thirty years and will be still supporting them long after Arsene has left. It's just that they say we have funds available and great commercial deals in place but nothing is happening.

Last year we made £25+ million on players sales, this years we are nearly that amount again with wages saved and sales income combined!

Cheers

Tom.

Say you had shown your boss you could not only win trophies but do it playing a brand of football that everyone else has since tried to copy in some form.

Then your boss turned around and gave you a plan that would see the building of a fantastic work place and a future of wealth and good times.

But he added to guarantee that you couldn't spend and would probably have to sell off assets at the same time keeping your company in the big league.

You achieve all that and the good times arrive, you have irons in the fire and have 3 weeks until your moment to turn it all around but employees like you are moaning so the head cheese tells you after all your hard work to jog and and thanks for everything. Manchester United have moved around 60 season ticket holders from their seats at Old Trafford - in order to replace them with television cameras.

When I first heard about the Suarez bid, not only did I not believe it, but I didn't want it either. He might be a phenomenal player but he will easily cause trouble for the team.
I'm surprised Arsenal would nearly treble their current transfer record to secure such a man.

Since then I've warmed to the idea (based on our lack of spending and his 23 premier league goals last season) as he is proven in the premier league. And hey, maybe we need a bad boy player since the days of Vieira and Keown.

No one has touched on Suarez's plight (aplogies if you have and I haven't read it)though. It looks like he's the bad guy trying to force a transfer but Liverpool went to the press long before him. I believe he has been duped in his latest contract. He clearly thought a £40mil bid would let him leave and it wouldn't surprise me if they had told him he could leave if they didn't get champions league football. I think Henry is the bad guy here (see his tweet about what Arsene has been smoking?) even if he doesn't come to Arsenal I think he deserves the right to what he has been promised.

Are the rumours about Gustavo coming to us true?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

10 Aug 2013 10:58:54
I honestly believe that Liverpool will sell Luis Suarez.

The longer they wait, the more unlikely they are of finding a replacement.

If they do sell him, they know their season is over before it has begun.

If they keep him, they have 6 games without him, and then the whole saga, of him apologizing, then trying to win the fans back

He has not yet apologized for his remarks, so what he said he meant. its been a few days already.

Bayern, City, PSG, Barcelona are all done with their striker options. Real will have to make the final move, if bale joins them, then Suarez to Real is dead

However for me this PR stunt by the owner and Brendan is to raise the value of a player who damaged it.

Wenger is being smart. we do not need to raise the bid yet. wait it out and see if Suarez will put in a transfer request. The longer he is with liverpool, not only is he serving his ban while he is with them, but they are also paying his wages.

Also suarez is away on international duty soon, some more talking will surely happen.

Luis Gustavo at the moment is the signing we need. a CDM.

If suarez happens, that would already be an amazing summer.

i wonder if the bendtner and Jesus Gamez swap will happen.

Adil Rami is another, however i'm not sure we have interest.

Im glad we have almost no deadwood, more key players will get a chance to play. Ox, Ryo, wilshere and they will be key players.

for me wilshere will change the dynamic of the team. add Gustavo and we are top 4 contenders again.

Add Suarez and some depth and we could contend for the title. ( key word is contend. )

What are the options if Suarez deal does not work. Here are the options referred by various sources and my assumptions for them:
1) Robert Lewandowski - This is not going to happenat all.
2) Pablo Osvaldo - I doubt He is not suitable for main striker role
3) Stephan El Shaarawy - Not going to leave Milan, so no chance.
4) Erik Lamela - Good player for future, may not be immediate impact
5) Edin Dzeko - This can be good one if City allows, has Premier League exp as well.
6) Leandro Damiao - I guess this will be a risk, not sure Wenger will take it at this moment
7) Diego Costa - Can replace Suarez but not sure abt his quality to play for main striker role at Arsenal.
8) Adrian Lopez - I am not admirer of Lopez. He is not going to solve our problem at all.
9) Burak Yilmaz - Proven Striker in Turkey. But his ability will be tested in EPL.
10) Jackson Martinez - This lad seems to have all qualities but price will be higher. But can be a good investment.
11) Karim Benzema - I do not think he is going to leave Madrid for Arsenal. He is the main striker over there.
12) Wayne Rooney - I guess he would prefer Chelsea. He can change our season if deal works.

Ed, whts your thought on this? Any other name or comments?

Eds and everyone else. I love Arsenal but! It's a bit worrying when I read how wonderful it would be if we get a by! against Fener due to the invetigation in their match fixing scandal. Just shows us how much our confidence is dwindling. True or not? we are worried about qualifying as we have no decent signings and we haven't even got through the first stage yet! What are we going to be like when we hopefully do qualify and still haven't made any progress in the transfer window. Hang around till the January transfer window and hope for a few scraps?

Liverpool don't want to sell to any team that's in direct competition to them? fine so they MUST! mean every team in the Premier League that's why we are in the same league. I don't understand when I read "The fight for fourth spot" surely our ambition should be to WIN not finish fourth. We have cabinets full of fourth spot trophies!

I would imagine a lot of people on here have played football in there lives or if you haven't you have probably followed it quite closely so I'm going to put this to you all and the Eds. Even at school, playing for for your local team or moving up the ranks to professional football we all knew or know who were the quality players I certainly did and my sons play today and they know who the best players in our district are. So what bothers me is when I read that Arsenal are giving TRIALS! to some players to fill in the gaps in the first team bothers me because if they were quality players you wouldn't need to you would already know how good they were. let's face it would Suarez, Bale, Ronaldo etc etc need to have a trial?. So who in the world are Arsenal looking at they need a trial first?

Ed do you think mertesacker is good because to me he is the worst cb ever, too slow, terrible on ball, never wins a header and we desperately need a new cb to replace him {Ed027's Note - I think he's ok, his weaknesses can be easily targeted by other teams, but else where's he's great reads the game well, very vocal, good tackler, he's not terrible on th ball at all, the main thing that surprised me when he came was his inability to win aerial battles, he's actually ver weak there when in reality he shouldn't be, we need Bouldy to teach him, you make ou like he's piss poor but he's first choice for Germany and he has a brilliant partnership with koscielny

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agreed. I have never seen a defender who is so underrated as Per--mostly because his reading of the game is absolutely superb. He makes attacking midfielders look like they've played a bad pass, when in reality he's just cut off all the angles.

For example, Ferdinand may be slow but he's had to adapt his game. Per's never been fast, so he's been playing all his life with other skills in his locker.

Easily first choice with Kos, superb partnership that one.

Agree0 Disagree0

I really don't get all this negative vibe about Mertesacker. Yes it is obvious he is not quick and not as good in the air as he should be for a giant but the rest of his game is pretty much spot on. Not sure how he is criticised for his distribution. Plays it simple and forward every time. It wasn't a coincidence that our defence became tight once our back five became regular. Bad players don't play for Germany as long as he has

Agree0 Disagree0

I think he's one of the most underrated CBs in the league. His anticipation is incredible and he's a good leader. Personally I think because he lacks any flair and is very slow, he stands out and therefore is targeted as a weakness.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think you are being a bit harsh on him. 90% of what he does is world class and in a team where the defence sits deep and soaks up pressure he is very effective.

Unfortunately Arsenal holds a very high line and has marauding full backs who spend most of their time deep in the oppositions half when we have the ball. This exposes his fatal flaw which as everyone and his mother knows is his lack of pace.

There must be a short paragraph in every EPL managers tactics book on how to beat Arsenal.

" Let them press hard and committ most of their players then try and nick the ball. Make a run down the right wing to pull Kos out wide and then play a deep ball behind Mert to allow a pacey forward to run onto the ball and assume the keeper will make the wrong choice and allow us to score. Once ahead defend deep soak up the pressure and rely on Arsenals inability to break through a deep defence to win the game. Job done"

It is the 10% lacking in his game that is the Arsenal defence's fatal flaw that has and will cost us game after game.

Our style of play does not match his numerous strengths and therefore he should not be our first choice, not because he is bad but just because he is a mismatch for our needs. We need another player with Kos's skill set and for Verm to recover his form.

Agree0 Disagree0

He is a good reader of the game and a good tackler but in our high line his lack of pace does get exposed if he is left one on one. Also for such a big guy his core strength is poor and often gets out powered by the big forwards. In my opinon we need another Koscielnly at the Back.

Agree0 Disagree0

If you think he's the worst CB ever you haven't followed football for more than three months.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree for the last 10 games of last season he played well but mainly because kos was so good. But apart from that he was poor last season. Also did people see him in emirates cup, he was dreadful both games. First should have closed down quicker or covered angles better against Napoli. And second game he was flat footed against Drogba and just didn't move

“I can assure the fans we will try very hard to keep them happy, ” Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger recently told Al Jazeera Sport. ”We are certainly ready to spend the money, but the process is going slowly but surely. ”

Promising sign.

Wenger's bad choice of words he should have said 'make' instead of 'keep' them happy.

Will Arsenal v City be televised live in the UK?

Also, which pub near emirates is a good bet?

Thanks, American in London

Believable0 Unbelievable0

There's "The Gunners" on Blackstock road, or The Auld Triangle, on St Thomas Road.

Not sure if the city game is being televised on sky etc- you may able to watch it on a stream.

No mate, it's audio commentary and then highlights on arsenal. com

Remy Cabella, kicked on from his great season last year and was incredible against PSG tonight. We could do a lot worse than signing him, looks a top player. Any arsenal interest in him ed? {Ed027's Note - has been in the past

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Didn't we lose interest after Montpellier said they wanted something ridiculous like £40m for him?

this isn't a rumour, more of a question as to what is truly going on at the emirates.

taking into consideration i've been reading a lot of the 'rumours' posted on this site for some considerable time.

we've seen a lot of media causing us havock over the years linking our stars with immediate exits, and although this hasn't happened this time around, we are being linked with some incredibly strange targets.

was higuain ever a target? not convinced he was, but the media doing what they do best - be annoying! is saurez really something we are actively able to pursue? there does seem to be some truth behind the arsenal expectation around the make believe 'clause' in the contract, but liverpool don't want to sell, don't need to sell and unless something incredible happens, this deal is dead in the water! why is wenger (who has never spent more than £20 on a player) all of a sudden throwing £40m + £1 at suarez? that makes absolutely no sense whatsoever (unless we believed there was a release clause) but throwing an extra £10m isn't the answer (as seen splashed around twitter and other sports sites)! surely?

who are arsenal actively pursuing? what is happening behind the scenes that clearly most of us are completely oblivious too? wenger keeps telling us about only adding quality, but as someone else stated previously, quality is passing us by almost daily. what is arsene and arsenal trying to achieve in reality?

now I do whole heartedly believe that wenger has something up his sleeve that will be exciting to not only the club, the players and the fans alike. I cannot fathom a mass of activity around our new founded financial powers and deliver nothing (except yaya). I completely agree that a price tag doesn't define a player, but how can almost everyone who posts on here see the holes in the squad that wenger cant? I am again, all for promoting youth players, but these aren't the quality wenger is refering to presumably?

what are we (the fans) missing? what is happening at arsenal? I know we keep our business very much close to our chest, but the lack of activity and desire is becoming a little uncomfortable. spurs are snapping up top quality players around us and we. we don't seem to be up to much.

so, all the itk's out there (excluding malaga - sorry mate), please start sharing some reality, truth and believable rumours that actually make sense and have some believable substance to them.

i am a massive wenger fan and will defend him and the club until i'm blue in the face and am certainly not jumping on a 'haters bandwagon'. I am merely interested in drumming up some reasonable activity around viable rumours and hopefully inspire some of those less than happy gooners!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We are not Wenger haters, in fact I love the guy, but when it's over its over, I love arsenal, pure and simple, no one is bigger than my club, no player or manager, we will all be gomers long after arsene has moved on please remember that in future posts. But we all hope and pray he is up to something because the alternative is not going to be pretty

Couldnt agree more =]

Wenger is beginning to p**s me off big time.
He is on another jolly to finland and not a signing in sight. We got a couple on trial and an old un training with the team. Is he just plain stupid to see our weaknesses.
He needs to address our defensive problems ASAP. A centre half, right back, keeper and a defensive mid. Forget this BS saga going on with Suarez who is using us to get Madrid to sign him up, and giving wenger an excuse to say we tried signing a big name knowing deep down he doesn't want to.
Capoue is going to spurs, Rooney to Chelsea, Fellaini Cesar williams gustavo Richards are for the taking. Higuan, jovetic, Bernard have slipped through our fingers whilst wenger and Ivan have been galavating around the world.
What does it take this stubborn prima Donna to spend our money and give us a team which can win something.
This team is so close to success but personic decisions by wenger is holding us back.
Squads have to be submitted soon, wenger will be happy to fill it with 16 year olds and also rans.

He hasn't gone on 'another jolly to Finland', we're playing there tomorrow against City, but of course you already knew that.

And have you ever considered that we aren't/weren't interested in some of those players? The media lies you know. I realise that might be a lot to take in, but it's true.

Agree0 Disagree0

The fact that you seem to think we need more defensive cover than a striker is strange to me. we have one striker in the whole squad.

I agree with you in that we need to strengthen in those positions, and I agree wenger has recently lost the plot , playing santi on the left, playing ramsey on the wings sometime, his lost the plot in my opinion in team selection, but homefully we sign someone to play CDM, however I am worried that his going to play santi on the left wilshere CAM, and so on, This is how the line up against aston villa should be. GK-Szczęsny, RB-Sagna CB-New signing, CB-Koscielny , LB-Gibbs, CDM-New Signing, CM-Wilshere , CAM-Santi, RW-Walcott, LW-Ox, ST-Giroud, BUT that's a big but this will never happen, we will see ramsey on the pitch, we will see podolski who gets tried after 10minutes, and arteta playing in CDM, which his not best in, so i'm sat here watching arsenal vs mancity, hoping for the best, as a arsenal fan for many years, i'm starting to get worried that we will go on for many more years without winning anything. Anybody thinking Fenerbache will be an easy tie does not grasp quite what Turkish football is like.
We will not win there, if we can escape with a draw then we have done fantastically. I expect us to lose, hopefully its only by one goal.
The crowds there are incredibly hostile, especially a club like Fener. There isn't a player in our team who you are confident in to keep everybody focused on the task at hand when ever black player in the team is being racially abused.
Thank God that the second leg is at The Emirates, its a tie we should win, but those expecting Arsenal to cruise it have another thing coming.

Gustavo has given an interview apparently saying the premier league is top quality and arsenal stand out, loves our style of play and has been watching us for some time. He's would be a quality signing IMO.
