Im of the opinion we need two big signings . A world class striker and a powerhouse midfielder, to challenge for the league and champs league. I think we can manage to some extent if we don't get a striker. If we don't get carvalho or khedera and we are relying on arteta then we will be battling for fourth. Why can't wenger see he is a liability and his legs have gone. I think he used to be a certainty for the team until last season but he is too slow now and not strong enough.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

10 Aug 2014 23:01:32
Totally agree Steve.

Agree0 Disagree0

Centre back?

Agree0 Disagree0

Whilst I would love a DM and a striker the priority for me right now has to be a CB. There is no way we could manage a whole season with koscielny and mertesacker as our two CB's with Chambers as back up for CB and RB. 6 defenders for 4 positions doesn't cut the mustard.

I personally felt light with only 3 recognised CB's last year we were lucky with injuries at CB last year. Sanga did well for the very few games he played at CB.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Aug 2014 23:26:52
Totally agree, top draw striker and DM and I still think we need a defender, someone like Micah Richards who can drop in and fill in across the back would be perfect.

This is the most positive I've felt at the start of a season for quite sometime.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes it goes without saying we need a cb but wenger has said he will replace verm. My point is the need for a player to defend in mid field.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agreed, we need a true DM as we still looked vulnerable to the counter yesterday.

Did anybody see Dutch League today?

Ajax and Vitesse Arnhem.

Ref awarded a free kick, went to use vanishing spray and nothing came out.

As they say, " It does exactly what it say's on the tin".

Some bloke just threw a lump of cheese at me in the pub.

That wasn't very mature.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Dags, congrats, this is the first joke of yours I've laughed at!

And it's bloody awful mate ;)

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Aug 2014 23:02:44
You are too kind Sir, lol

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Aug 2014 21:43:48
Good performance today. Interesting that neither Miguel nor Heyden made the bench and Monreal provided the CB cover. Rumour that Kos has picked up an Achilles problem so next weeks CB pairing may put pressure on young chambers ( who did well today). Talk outside the ground included an alleged enquiry for Winston Reid at West Ham United - no idea if legit but had some support.
Nice to see Pat Rice hand over the trophy and amongst all the positives from today the momentum of winning on a big occasion should keep the belief high and was probably the most important thing for us.

Legia Warsaw Chairman has asked Celtic if, in the spirit of gamesmanship, they would step down and let them take their place in Champs League.

Yeah, and while you are there mate, would you ask Cheryl Cole, in the spirit of sexual gamesmanship, if she would sleep with me.

Jeez, some people.

Ooh, knock on door, might be Cheryl, got to go, wish me luck.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

10 Aug 2014 21:35:21
C'mon Arsene.

Get Schneiderlin, he can link up with his mate Callum Chambers.

Final piece to the jigsaw.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Tell ya what DG do that or similar then prepare to be crowned champions gents and Jenny

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Aug 2014 22:10:36
Agree but also need a centre half

I still would not say no to Remy also.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Aug 2014 23:04:54
Absolutely.

SY, let's keep the Remy train rolling.

Choo choo

Agree0 Disagree0

Remy is not good enough

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Aug 2014 00:16:48
Bambam,

I thought you liked Remy :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

Strange that arsene sees chambers as a cdm, we have cover there in 'veteran' players such as flam and arteta.

true we do not have an in his prime CDM but if the money is there and the player is available wenger will bite.

CB is a harder buy. quality. willing to sit on the bench.

Ed,

First managerial casualty of the season.

Mark Robins part's company with Huddersfield, after one day of new season.

Surely a record?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Didn't some some league one or two side sacked their manager the night before the season started a couple of years back?
Surely if they had doubts why let it go that far!.
Mind you Norwich sacked Bryan Gunn after one game and replaced him with Paul Lambert two promotions followed

Just seen Tommy Vermaelen at Barca.

I was OK with it yesterday.

Feel bad now. Its like getting dumped. You are OK at first, but than you see your ex a few day's later with another bloke.

#upset now.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Dont feel bad Dags,

Its like buying a brand new Bugatti and then have it fail 2 MOT's and have to face the facts it will never perform the same again and is no longer you're 1st choice ride, yet you still manage to sell it on for more than you paid for it.

You can now go out and purchase a new and improved more reliable model that will make you feel so much better.

I respect your opinion normally Banbury, but if that is a threat of physical violence, you are out of order.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - dont take things too seriously LG, there was a smiley at the end of the post mate, it was a light hearted bit of fun...jeeze.. dont lets end up like some other sites who have had a sense of humour bypass..

10 Aug 2014 21:07:35
Absolutely, all good banter.

I'll hold your coats lads and keep them with me and the girls in the car, just make sure you take your time and have a good long scrap, me and the women will keep each other amused I'm sure :-)

10 Aug 2014 21:24:30
Little Gunner,

Serious? Come on mate, it was obviously a joke by Banbury.

Lighten up mate.

You are a damn fine poster, who contributes greatly to this site.

Calm down or I will smack your bum bum.

That's a joke by the way. :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

Girls. girls. or Flybo :p

Agree0 Disagree0

LG just read your post mate, no ones going to hurt anyone physically and we shouldn't be doing it mentally either come to that which i'm sure no one intended.
Its just Banter geeza no offence intended and apologize if any has been taken.
Chil mate this isn't that sort of site at all

Agree0 Disagree0

Durban Flybo is far to busy with Aaron now he's dumped Olly, so its just me and the girls I'm afraid, dirty job but someone's got to do it.
Have no fear mate you get in there and fight like a man, I'll make sure the missus is looked after mate, no! don't you dare thank me, its my pleasure :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Aug 2014 22:20:00
Alright sorry for taking that the wrong way, but I'm sure you can see how it looks.
Think I need a break from this site.
cya all tomorrow! ;)
Apologies again.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - no need to apologise LG, if i thought anyone meant anything like that mate, it would be an automatic ban..

LG keep posting mate we don't need to agree to enjoy the site in fact sometimes it better when we don't :-)
But the very large majority on here good people who just enjoy banter.
Your a valued poster who the site would be all the poorer without mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

Am I the only one who thought Banb was talking about dogging?

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Aug 2014 03:55:31

Fair play.

And before you ask Ed0025, no, I will not apologise for my jokes

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Aug 2014 20:11:25
Well I just had an argument with a tottenham fan in the pub after our win today, and asked him in what way are tottenham a bigger club than arsenal, here are his results.

1. There are more letters in Tottenham than arsenal (I gave him that one).

2. They have a bigger firm than us, I have no knowledge of numbers or even if they still exist in the form that he means, but I'm sure they are because I just don't know.

Even with the avalanche of info and facts and stats against his assumption he still reckons tottenham are a bigger club.

All in all I forgot to ask him does he still believe in the tooth fairy and santa.

True story :-D

First time proper poster, followed site for a good 2 years.

Great result today,

But I do not buy in to this love in with Arteta, especially the agreement it's ok for him to be club captain.

He looked okay today against a very average city performance, and honestly, Jack and Rambo did the donkey work, when he did get brave and offensive and tried his predictable cruyff turn inside, he lost the ball, I respect him as a professional, but if he is our captain and leader in the middle, we will get found out against stronger, fitter and quicker players.

Apologies if negative, but would Arteta start for the top 7 or 8 EPL Teams? I don't think so.

Wenger needs to replace promptly!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - its called the feel good factor motion..

I am all for the feel good factor, I was last one singing in the pub, but I just sense if trust is put in Arteta to lead us, we will come undone.

I would rather Flamini as DM, but we badly need a true DM to replace Arteta, giving him captaincy will lead to false hope that Mikel can do a ob for us.

Agree0 Disagree0

Welcome aboard mate excellent first post, I second that motion sir

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks gunner 62.

Was a great team performance, but we still need to be realistic about our intentions this season. We can't get clouded by one good performance.

Yaya Toure is one of the best CM's in the world, but was invisible today, doesn't mean he is trash. We can't be do the same with Arteta and believe he is right to captain this team, he has lost 2yds of pace and 2 seconds of time in his head.

True DM is what we need to really have a chance to win the EPL.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Aug 2014 20:57:15
Welcome to the nut house motion.

Keep posting mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks Dags,

I think its like pringles, now I have popped (my banter cherry), I won't stop.

Agree0 Disagree0

Mate I can't fault a word of that, love Arteta as a very good and loyal bloke but as our main DM? Sorry he wasn't up to it last season and year on ain't going to do him or us any favours at this stage of his career. We need a better purpose built DM player to fight the big fires and Mikel can still contribute greatly but not as our main man

Agree0 Disagree0

Season/cup etc on the line and we get a penalty, who gets the spot. Arteta will be the first choice every time because he has a spine. That my friends is one of many reasons he is our captain. Trust he in AW he knows.

Agree0 Disagree0

Not good enough, there are plenty of others that can take pens.

Arteta will be good in cup runs against lower opposition, but no way good enough for top teams.

I say again, could he start in the top 7 EPL teams? NO, so why start for AFC?

Agree0 Disagree0

Going to have to respectfully disagree, just ask my man ozil.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Aug 2014 13:51:30
Welcome motion. I'm with you. I think a dude of great PL experience I wouldn't want him to be sold because he would be great backup for a younger model. DM is consistently a problem for us. It needs to be addressed this year or I fear we'll be saying the same old old at the end of the season

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Aug 2014 19:57:59
Anyone know who chose the man of the match award today?
It wasn't you Dags was it? Sorry mate when it was announced your the first person that came to mind as it was obviously someone having a laugh

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - he would have voted for remy G62..

I was as baffled as you boys when Giroud won MOTM.

I would have given it to Remy.

Oh wait,

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Aug 2014 19:47:47
Controversial.

I think we should sell Ramsey.

He is in the form of his life and we could get at least £30m for him in today's market.

Thoughts?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - i hope thats the joke you promised us dags?..

You've been warned about this sort of thing before Spursman, if Ed007 catches you on here again you might get banished to the other posts page permanently

Agree0 Disagree0

If you said 50mill I'd think you were serious. 30mill I know your talking rubbish.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Aug 2014 21:48:35

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Aug 2014 19:46:42
Great result. Lots of positives. I'm thinking, a lexis, cazorla, Ramsey playing well. Wilshere, gibbs and kos also did alright. A bit disappointed with sanogo tonight and apart from the stunning goal I'm not sure what giroud did to deserve man of the match.
Chambers wasn't terrible, but I think you can see some of the inexperience and proved we need another cb to push merts and kos. Debuchy got caught out once or twice. Hopefully he'll start to gel soon.

It's nice to get a convincing win to start the season against a decent if slightly under strength city.

Can't wait to see what happens when ze Germans and Walcott aare back. We could be lethal going forwards.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

10 Aug 2014 20:11:55
How harsh are you man?
Wilshere and Gibbs did alright? Just alright? They were as good as you could want in a pre season!
And no Chambers wasn't terrible, he was immense.
haha tough man to please!
Agree with getting all our players back though, exciting times ahead :)

Agree0 Disagree0

Chambers was very good and sanogo was involved heavily in both goals.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Aug 2014 19:34:18
Aaron Ramsey scoring 25 in 36 games is ridiculous. Stunning stats for a midfielder. So proud of his revival and improvement. He is our go to guy and someone who wins us games single handedly.

For me, he is fast becoming undroppable and one of, if not the first name on the team sheet.

So, over to you this season Jack Wilshere.

You know what you need to do and the example you need to follow.

GOOD LUCK!

Just thought I would make a personal post really. I've been taking enough stick from certain people on here about opinions.
Now! I don't mind people disagreeing that's fine but don't keep having a personal dig at me. I'm not some sort of person so please do me a favour and stop popping me off. It's very easy to dig people out on here but it is also out of order. I don't always agree with what I read but I never start slating the person that wrote it. The reason being is it is muggy it's a bit like someone slagging someone off over the phone withholding your number and putting the phone down.
Telephone talkers I call them .!
So try and be a bit civil otherwise don't bother.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - im with you there golds, having different opinions is what banter is all about mate..

Chill brother I'm with u and for my part golds u r informative and entertaining so don't stress mate 3-0 giroud a scorcher woop woop x

Agree0 Disagree0

Golds, unfortunately mate there will always been the keyboard warriors who hide behind their computer screens and sling insults to cover up their extreme insecurities, mainly regarding their teeny tiny you know what.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - brains?.. :)

10 Aug 2014 19:44:28
Post of the year.

Well said Golds.

As Ed said, its all about opinions and the fact we can sometimes disagree makes this site all the better, as long as we are civil to each other.

Respect mate.

Who wants a Dag's joke?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - not me..

Your words hurt Ed, they hurt, lol.

PS, might have a sneaky bet on Everton to break into top 4.

Worth a punt I reckon.

10 Aug 2014 20:28:50
No one wants to argue on here, so why keep persisting with the same topic over and over?
And to you saying I'm 'blinded' (personal dig at my eye sight) in your last reply, no I'm not, just stand by our players.
Same routine every week. Moan about Jack, people moan about you moaning, Dags defend you, you say people are insulting you personally. Rinse and repeat.

But as a lot of people don't like the banter, you have your wish, I will not moan about you moaning about Wilshere any more.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Aug 2014 20:32:49
Ed,

Have a feeling you will finish above Liverpool (and definitely moan Utd).

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Aug 2014 19:01:08
Super finish from Rambo!

If Arteta is Captain - does that mean no CDM or are we planning on this years captain playing as many games as last years captain?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Rambo is fast becoming class on grass, great touch and balance for a lovely goal, .
Make no mistake this boy is the real deal and were going to be beating off PSG Real and Bayern with a massive stick next summer.
Ever so pleased for him and nice bloke to boot

Agree0 Disagree0

Arteta will play plenty of games mate. If he doesn't start then Mertesacker will be more than capable.

Arteta is the father figure of the dressing room. A leader on and off the pitch and someone who has captained us for most of last season already. If Wenger deems him the captain then who are we to argue.

Also, at least this way, after Henry, Fabregas and Vermaelen, we know where Arteta will finish his career.

Barcelona.

Agree0 Disagree0

Amen to that g62!

Agree0 Disagree0

Nailed it Greeny well put!

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Aug 2014 18:53:49
I think I heard this right.

Rambo has scored 25 goals in last 36 games.

Amazing.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I know a certain Fernando Torres, Samuel Eto'o, Demba Ba and Romelu Lukaku (COMBINED) who would love that strike rate!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - he is doing brilliantly greeny, but it was not that long ago that some of these same people were calling for his head mate... oh how fickle supporters can be at times..

10 Aug 2014 21:04:04
Totally agree Ed.

18 months ago I was hoping he would be sold.
He was the weak link in the team, head down and always losing possession.

What made things worse was his welsh mate, Gareth Bale, was performing miracles at WHL, (bit unfair to compare them because they are both Welsh), but now, amazing transformation.

As you rightly say, fans are fickle.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Aug 2014 18:52:15
Chambers did really well today, capable 3rd Choice CB but the Kos injury scare just made me feel like we need one more at the back. On a side note TV23 just doesn't have the same ring.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Chambers is showing what he's capable of in these early stages and I'm really happy for him. Looks an excellent player and another gem from AW.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Aug 2014 18:43:33
26 goals in 35 competitive matches. A stat that any striker would be proud of. Thankfully that stat belongs to one of our players, but not a striker (obviously). It belongs to midfielder Aaron Ramsey. The man I left Giroud for.

I'm not easy. I'm just not complicated!

10 Aug 2014 18:42:33
So winning trophies, actual solid metal trophies that is, can be habitual. Hopefully the habit continues.
So my views on today's game.
First half was pretty decent. Sanchez was a constant thorn in City's side when he got the ball. A few more games and we will see even more from what can only be described as the most exciting signing in recent years. Sanchez and Ozil could be lethal.
Sanogo had a pretty good 45 minutes. Someone next to me said "he's quite quick". Quite being the operative word. If only he had a real burst of pace. He's still quite raw but characteristics are very similar to Giroud.
Debuchy in the first 20 minutes was excellent. Defensively solid and offensively heavily involved in at least 2 good early attacks.
Callum Chambers. 2nd half was defiantly his better half. Caught out a couple af times in the first 45 and on another day against an Aguero or a Negredo we would have been punished more. Looked off pace. Second half was better, still made a pretty big give away pass but this time recovered better. Another more natural centre back is defiantly needed.
Nothing to be said of Ramsey except great goal. Quietly went about his business as did wilshere and Cazorla. They did what they are expected to do as far as I'm concerned.
Second half the dynamic changed with the withdrawal of Sanchez. Really shows with the lack of pace up top we could struggle. That said the prospect of Walcott running onto some of those through balls Sanchez was providing does ease my concern.
So what do we learn from today?
Man City have a great first team, many of which were not playing. However there squad. Is it better than ours? I don't think they are. If we add the much wanted defensive midfielder and another centre back then our squad is damn strong. Like for like replacements in most positions.
When you think we didn't have Ozil, mertesacker, podolski and Walcott today, when they are available there's going to be some decent players who don't even make the bench! Injuries pending of course.
Finally I'd say I was quite impressed, not that I don't rate him, with Sczszeny. Some good saves made today. I wonder whether when Fabianski was at the club he had little respect for him. Always thinking that he would be number 1 ahead of his fellow countryman. Now we have Ospina, a goalkeeper who has performed extremely well at the World Cup, that he now realises he has a challenge on his hands to keep his place.
Oh and was it just me but was that wembley pitch awfully slow? Looked pretty to look at but slowed both teams down!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

10 Aug 2014 20:19:50
Damn fine post.

Good assessment.

Well its been a long time since enthusiasm and expectations were this high going into a season and why not!
Pulis and Palace will be ready to try and catch us cold next week and we will have half an eye on the champions league game the following Tuesday.
All I'm saying is if we don't look quite as good next Saturday don't panic we're about to begin a marathon and if we can get 3 pts to kick it off by any means I'll be a very happy chappy

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Prognosis is looking good Dr.Greeny.

Agree0 Disagree0

Indeed Dags! It's exciting times! Still, I don't care if we play terribly and only beat palace 1-0 on Saturday.

Have a very good feeling about this season!

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally agree Dr Green, 3 pts 1 shot 1 goal none conceded will do me against Palace then get over to Turkey smash and grab two goal win then have the German boys back for the Everton match and able to rotate a little in a congested start to our season, plus we might just have a couple more players come in by then too.
We're all buzzing for the season ahead and chomping at the bit to get the race started.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Aug 2014 17:54:35
Well Done to us on the win Gooners!

If dags had to ask Jose about our win today, he'd say "I don't worry, I don't worry, it's Mickey Mouse trophy, I don't worry"

I take one big positive away from today and that's you want your players to be in the right frame of mind to perform well for the team. I'm sure when our league campaign faulted laat season, Mesut was probably thinking to himself "Have I made the right decision?" But the FA Cup win, I feel made him feel that yes he did, so now with FA and World Cup medals in tow, he'll have a much better season this time around. Today I watched Alexis after the match and he seemed excited, when he went up to collect the medal, he wanted to be near the trophy, after the team photo on the pitch when he was holding the shield one could see that if he had any doubt, those were put to rest and I feel he's ready to show us his capabilities. On one last point for all the Arteta and Cazorla haters, if you watched Mikel with Alexis after the game we can really see that he an amazing big brother figure in the dressing room and we need that in our team. Sorry for the long post guys! #COYG

Believable0 Unbelievable0

For me Arteta has been a great signing on so many levels. Love him

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - and his hair is amazing!..

No more egotists, real team spirit, that's what we need! And ed, we surely do have the best looking team lol

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - no doubt about it DG..

Nice hair shame about the legs, I like the bloke but he is not the answer to our DMF position once the real stuff begins.
Against the big teams he will get found out AGAIN!
Back up or even part of the MF but not the main defensive part of it please

All good for player confidence Bambam and that was a terrific strike mate.

A rested non over worked and over used Giroud is a very dangerous Giroud, when Sanogo started playing lest season Olly really seemed to come back to life after being worked into the ground prior to that.

I think the reason is most of last season he wasn't, but the season before he was player of the year so here's hoping

Just some quick pre-match thoughts.

City will be difficult to break down today, and with Yaya Toure and Fernando in the centre, they will most likely win the battle in midfield.

I can see Arteta being a weak point in our midfield today, so we may really need to see a strong display from Wilshere.

Sanchez, Sanogo and Ramsey will most probably be our main threats. They will need to give City's back four a hard time. Would have preferred Chambo on the left, with Cazorla in the middle with Ramsey replacing Arteta next to Jack.

Overall, I can't see us winning in normal time, sorry. I like to be optimistic, but I think City will be too much for us today. I'm going for a tight 2-1 to them. With Ramsey scoring for us.

Would really love to see us win it though.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

10 Aug 2014 14:48:11
I'm pleased Sanogo is starting today be good to see how his confidence has been boosted after benfica.
City have so much strength in depth its virtually impossible for them to field a weak side, maybe not their best side but still a good side.
Big day also for Chambers and he who mustn't be picked on :-) I actually expect Jack to do well today for some strange reason

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I really hope sanogo does well too, any idea why he was picked ahead of giroud though?

Hi Eds and fellow Gooners,
I hope you're all well. Quick question for an Ed if I may.
The tabloid chatter on Schneiderlin has died off since the Saints hierarchy said he was not for sale. Has Arsenal therefore, dropped all interest in the player, or is he perhaps someone the boss may move for as the window winds down? Would the option to loan Gnabry perhaps be offered to the Saints to smooth the deal?
Cheers

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - No, Arsenal and Spurs remain interested. Arsenal are considering other options for midfield, so we will see what happens.}

11 Aug 2014 08:10:29

Fact of the day returns!

Following his transfer to Barcelona, Barcelona have now paid off 34.6% of The Emirates Stadium (otherwise known as £135m in transfer fees.)

Onto today's game, I am going to predict a 3-1 win to Arsenal with Ramsey, Alexis and Sanogo amongst the scorers!

I am concerned that it appears that Wenger wants to send Gnabry out on loan. I think is ready for the first team and should stay at the club, to play in domestic cup matches & to be used whenever possible.
On a separate topic, the squad seems imbalanced with loads of midfield/attacking midfield players and a shortage of quality defensive midfield players, central defenders and top quality forwards.
Thoughts fellow gooners.

By Arsenal's past standards, we have had a good transfer window (to date).

But, breaking it down, we have replaced Fabianski with Ospina, Sagna with Debuchy and Vermaelen with Chambers (ish).

So, we have only strengthened with Alexis Sanchez.

Enough?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Nonsense. But for you perhaps the club will just stop now.}

10 Aug 2014 13:50:34
Why is it nonsense Ed?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Because the club is working hard to improve the team and the expectation is that there will be players staying, leaving and arriving.}

He is right tho

Agree0 Disagree0

But we have replaced those players with more quality or potential.

We have gone almost like for like, in terms of Fabianski/Ospina, Sagna/Debuchy and Vermaelen/Chambers (ish).

Yes, its an improvement, but not a major one.

Sanchez is a major improvement and also not a like for like replacement but an addition.

11 Aug 2014 08:09:39
Dags, I was going through the same though process earlier today. Number-wise, the squad is only slightly larger than last season, but the quality in those positions has certainly improved.

Ed002 saying that we are still after more players is a good barometer I measure whether we are or not. I'm expecting at least 1 versatile player to come in that can play CDM and CB. If we get 2 players to cover each position, then even better.

Ed, Wenger has a transfer budget of up to 100m, yet it seems as though he won't spend that.
My question is do you think Arsenal make another big money signing?
Any reply would be very interesting so thank you.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I would rather not discuss money as it tends to confuse most football fans - and the obsession with "war chests" and "budgets" remains pretty much laughable. If you quote figures then including currency might make some sense. I have no idea what a "big money" signing is. If you expect the club to go out and spend larger sums of money on players than they need to just to impress the fans, then it will be a long few weeks for you. The club are working on brining players in - players the manager considers the right players, I am sorry if they are not as "big name" as you want and I am sorry if they don't cost as much as you would like.}

Arsenal are one of two teams looking to Rabiat - but I cannot see how a move to London will get him a regular start this season. Poor old big Tony, if ever great player should have walked away from the game when they retired its him.
As a manager at Portsmouth his interviews were at best confusing and at the time I wondered if the players went out not having a clue what he was talking about.
But I have to say as a pundit? He makes an excellent manager :-)
I hate seeing and reading what his views, its like watching your best mate go on Britain's got talent thinking he's good and knowing the world will laugh at him, cringing

My predicted line up for Citeh game today. I would however prefer to see Arteta dropped, Wilshere drop into Arteta's position and have the Ox play where I have Wilshere.

We cry out for power in the middle of the field and have a beast like the Ox in the squad.

A midfield of Wilshere, Oxlade-Chamberlain and Ramsey has energy, strength, pace, technique and an eye for a pass. Ok it might not have masses of experience but it has enthusiasm which can often make up for a lack of experience. Got to do it eventually as I see that as our future midfield you only get experience from playing there

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agree0 Disagree0

How how howww are you blokes viewing the teams? Every time I try I get select your team which I've done already.
This is soooooo not fair ON ME!
I want to play, please let me, I've got sweets

Agree0 Disagree0

Arteta has filled in as a holding mid with great professionalism, no complaints about being played out of position and has done his best but he needs to replaced as he is now detrimental to the way the team needs to play.

He has lost his pace and cannot cover back, he gives away free kicks in dangerous places and continually slows down the play when we are on a break. The ball comes to him and as others break forwards he always looks for a square or more often a back pass allowing the opposing defenders to get back in numbers leaving us to try and break down a well organized defense which we currently seem incapable of doing.

I know it sound like a broken record, but we need to bring in world class quality in the following positions CB, CDM and CF if we really want to challenge Citeh and Chelski.

Arsene has said that Jack needs to be more consistent at this level. He needs now to be able to play 6 or 7 games on the trot without having to rest him. Most importantly he also added that he has no more ankle problems.
So reading between the lines I would be fairly confident in saying that Arsene is hinting that there are no more excuses.
Dags mentioned something in an earlier post which was very true. You hardly hear people saying do you remember the great performance Messi had or the great performance Ronaldo had etc etc . That's because these players are doing it week in week out. How true is that.
I want him to do well in fact I would love it. But for me he has got to grow up stop falling over at every opportunity and leave out his extra curricular activities.

LG,

I don't think its too obsessive.

Wilshere is probably the most talked about player on this board, indeed amongst Arsenal supporters everywhere.

Unfortunately, its because of his performances, or sometimes lack of, that makes him so talked about.

On the plus side, I bet Sanogo is happy Goldboy has left him alone, lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm not obsessed with Jack, I'm not!
Just because I follow him on Twitter and face book and in the street and talk and think about him every hour on the hour does not make me obsessive about him.
I sometimes go minutes not even mentioning him

I get all the points you make Dags, I can remember them from a week ago when you defending Goldboy for the exact same post about Jack. Or a few days before that when you defended him when Stoner asked him to stop the repetitiveness about Jack. Or a few days before that when he was arguing with someone else about. yeah you guessed it, JACK.
We all have our less favourable players, but slating them every few days on here doesn't help and to be honest it has worn very thin. I think I can speak for most people when I say, we're bored of it, especially since he hasn't played a competitive match since the last 10 times he made the point.
Someone made the point about leaving Jack alone for the first 10 games and then judging him, not a bad shout.
More repetitive than people asking Ed002, who are we linked with?

So from paper talk diaby is set to miss tomorrow's game with a hip injury. Not surprising if true. Like many I'm a huge fan of him but this just shows we can't rely on him anymore. Not saying get rid of him or anything so extreme. But just shows maybe we need to plan our team without him. I was saying at work he should be given a chance as our dm against city. First game and he might not even play lol
