Particularly away from home and until we buy a couple of CB's we need to revert to 4 at the back and sit deeper for the opening 20 minutes. We also need to play a true DM, so Coquelin, although not really good enough, has to start alongside Wilshere against West Ham. With Sanchez on the left of a 4 man midfield and Walcott starting on the right. I would then start Giroud and Lacazette up front.
The back four should be Bellerin, Mustafi (if fit) , Kos and Kolasinac.
In the break we should snap up N'Zonzi and Johnny Evans.
We have players to sell or release over the next two windows: Ospina, Debuchy, Mertesacker, Chambers, Akpom, Campbell, Coquelin, Elneny.
We have too many attacking minded midfield players that can't defend and this needs to be addressed.
Rant over.

The thing is with Kos starting to look past his best all its difficult to name one of our CBs or CMF player's who don't have a huge question mark next to their name.
It seems to me you can mix and match all we have what ever way we like and it will never be right.
Jack and Theo being the answer sounds like a post from 5 years ago to me.
What we have just doesn't work and it's almost impossible to see how it is ever going too after all this time.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Dec 2017 12:47:29
How bad is it? Bellerin doesn't look a right wing back or a good right back, mustaffi looks slow and ponderous, mert and kos past it, monreal really a left back turned uncomfortable center back. The two young center backs holding and chambers, being nice, aren't ready yet and our central mid is flimsy and weak. But more than anything, don't work together and always look short of confidence.

Agree0 Disagree1

11 Dec 2017 13:36:52
If you took over next summer with Ozil and Sanchez already gone and wanted to really have a go at the title in your first season who of who we already have could possibly make your title challenging 11?
For me Kol Lacasette Belerin possibly Ramsey if surrounded by top players might be able to step up but apart from that you are looking at back squad players for the best of the rest at the very best.
It's shocking I know but when Sanchez and Ozil have gone we will be left with 3 or 4 at a real push who might be good enough to play regularly in a title winning team and a whole lot of players good enough for back up at absolute best.
That really is a poor state of affairs at a club like Arsenal.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Dec 2017 14:41:03
I think our players are in the main good players, often played either out of position or with poor tactics, which is down to Wenger.
Bellerin is a winger converted to a fullback or wing back and the defensive side of his game is poor.
Wilshere, Xhaka and Ramsey are all offensive midfield players, played in a DM role.
Tactically, more often than not our defence starts a match 10-15 yards too high up the field and our opponents get in behind and score. We are playing 3 CB's often marking one forward.
With the opinions we have, as stated above, a defence of Bellerin, Mustafi, Kos and Kolasinac, sitting deep away from home, protected by Coquelin and Wilshere, sitting just ahead on them. We must buy a couple of CB's and a couple of DM's.

Agree3 Disagree1

11 Dec 2017 19:17:39
It's OK seeing what we should buy RG but will we? The answer is highly unlikely.
5 years ago we thought Jack was going to a Superstar and Theo top notch we can't simply go back 5 years because nothing else has worked and we have run out of ideas.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Dec 2017 06:49:54
G62 - I have littel confidence that we will buy, even though Wenger will want to replace Sanchez, who appears to be off. I have a feeling we will limp on with roughly the same squad, until the summer when Ozil and Sanchez will depart.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Dec 2017 07:57:30
Do you not think Sanchez will go in January RG? It would make sense as he obviously can't find his Arsenal majo easily any more and at least we get something for him.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Dec 2017 08:29:20
Tricky question G62 - I can't see Arsenal allowing both Ozil and Sanchez to depart for nothing, although we are in a very weak position as they can both negotiate with other clubs as from January and that would possibly mean a better deal for them as interested clubs sign them for nothing in the summer, opposed to Β£millions in January.
My instinct is that Wenger is going try and sign replacements in January and cash in on the pair, if possible. I have a sneaky and hopeful suspicion that the recent N'Zonzi 'noise' had some truth in it and that we may try and sell Ozil, with the knowledge that we can play Ramsey in a more attacking role which suits him better.
In respect of Sanchez, we may try to do an exchange with team abroad, which will keep him away from PL teams and bring a player in exchange. A very interesting window, which needs careful handling.

Agree0 Disagree1

12 Dec 2017 10:29:36
Personally I'd let them both go in January for Β£s rather than for 0 in the summer and play as you say Ramsey in the Mesut role and Jack Le Coq in the cmf as it's the nearest thing we have to the Caz Le Coq partnership that did work and play Danny in Sanchez place, ok Welbeck is no Sanchez but a commited Danny is equal to a half hearted Sanchez surely?
I don't really see how we would be likely to finish this season any better or worse by selling Sanchez and Ozil next month than we would giving them away next summer.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Dec 2017 11:39:50
Confidence may drop if we sell both, assuming we are able to, in January, without replacing them.
I have a feeling we are trying to make January signings and sell them.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Dec 2017 12:16:54
I don't really have any idea if we will buy anyone or not in January guessing what Arsene will do is usailly a complete waste of effort because we all think logically and Arsenes actions so often defy logic.
Why does he sub Lacasette so much
Why does he insist on playing Xhaka every game
Why does he sell Gabriel and not replace him.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Things are changing at Arsenal as I have explained and you should be looking ahead rather than being an embarrassment by whining.}

12 Dec 2017 13:13:17
Can't wait Ed002 when will we actually see any sign of this change?
When will this change be seen and reflected on the field and in the league table?
I'm looking forward but no sign yet of anything different happening to me it all looks pretty simular to me.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Clearly I am wasting my time explaining the changes that are happening at Arsenal at a senior level. I will steer clear as much as I can.}

12 Dec 2017 13:23:37
You don't have to steer clear on my behalf Ed002 as I never ask you any questions or comment on the answers you give others either.

Jose team and personal style has to bring success because neither are consumer friendly.
Pep on the other hand is usually pretty easy on the ear and his teams easy on the eye which can only make Mourinho and his team look worse.

and to conclude the rest of the players who's contracts expire in 2019; Ramsey, Welbeck, Cech, Monreal

Big job at hand πŸ˜‰ either way if your Messiah stays for the 2 year contract. pressures on for top 4 so you can keep/ attract players, who Is going to come knowing Wenger maybe gone I a year. too much uncertainty.

United have to be the most embarrassing of the top teams in world football, at home and Mourinho serves up that pile of shizzle.

If Moyes and Van Gaal started to ruin the ethos and identity of everything that Fergie built that Portuguese chump is smashing it out of the park.

Guardiola has spent pretty well to be fair, filled most of the holes, really like their new keeper, I think he’d be good outfield too.

Defensively, as weak an Arsenal team as I have ever seen.

No midfield cover at all. Very porous.

No speed in attack. We play more backwards and sideways passes than a Rugby team.

We have a quality striker up top, but we don't utulise his pace.

We might as well have Hale and Pace in midfield. They have more bite than Ramsey and Xhaka.

we have wing backs who don't like getting crosses in and our play is far too pedestrianised.

Don't these highly paid players (and manager) , realise you don't have to make 30/ 40 passes to get to the opponents penalty area?

I love Arsenal to death, but we are so damn predictable.

You are correct Sanogo.
That point should keep us safe from relegation 😁.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Dec 2017 18:40:36
Actually I don't disagree with that Sanogo mate, for us a point at Southampton is a good result, some other clubs might feel it's 2pts dropped but we've had some real thrashings at St Mary's in recent seasons.
People like to talk of us in the same way as title challenging teams but that simply isn't and hasn't been the reality for a while now.

We are disappointed in our club but our team is performing to its capabilities that have been established over years not weeks months or even a season or two.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Dec 2017 19:20:34

I can't do that because Per had a good cuo final so I must forget his age his past struggles and mistakes and remember only that game.

Giroud comes on the pitch and it's common sense that we got a stronger presence in the box. Sanchez and Co. Conspire not to put crosses in the box. You don't need a coach to help you see that. Yes Wenger should step down end of season but our players should take blame too. Mert propping up his cojones at 61 minutes instead of closing down Saints player thank heavens the crossbar did the job for him. Zero winning mentality in the team.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

10 Dec 2017 14:26:11
Mmmm was it not a sanchez cross for the goal.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Dec 2017 16:26:41
Yes it was a Sanchez cross for the goal. My point is he should have put more of those when he got the chances to cross. Many a times he chose to run with the ball at the top of Saints penalty box than to cross it in for Giroud. Of a possible 7 times to cross for Giroud he crosses one which results in a goal.

Agree1 Disagree0

10 Dec 2017 13:57:03
Bellerin, xhaka, koz, mert and ramsay the reason we are poor at defending. The way they play or are playing their positions is a joke. Xhaka, ramsay and bellerin aren't past it but the others are. Xhaka and bellerin just don't like getting their hands or hair dirty and will never make premier league footballers as long as the have a hole in their arse. What a flakey team of footballers we have at the moment. Our defence and our midfield have to be the weakest ever.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

10 Dec 2017 14:16:42
This was all plain to see before the season started mate.
Kos going Cech going Mertesacker gone
Ozil and Sanchez leaving and where still waiting for Xhaka to show up.
But apart from that
We've had worse days at St Mary's that's for sure,

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Dec 2017 19:02:35
5 teams for 3 places basically and i don't see us being in hunt at the moment. We might buy some great center backs in jan a couple of holding mids in jan or sack wenger, so things could change in the near future to influence that. let's all hope and pray.

For me for people like you two to pick sanchez out above the real problems and try to use him as a scapegoat is really incredible. He hasn't been as good as last but he has still shown more than most. Would i still pick him first over bellerin, koz, xhaka, ozil, ramsay and others, yes i would. Far more players than just him are not performing to their best and far below the standard i want to see for this club.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Dec 2017 14:09:33
By the way i think he had a bit of a hand in our goal.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Dec 2017 14:20:59
Sanchez doesn't want to be at Arsenal but accepts he has to be for now, he's only human and in any job working your notice is always tough.
He's physically here but mentally he's already elsewhere.
We should have taken the 70 million when we had chance.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Dec 2017 15:15:43
Steve r if your too blind to see sanchez is playing pants then you don't know anything about football. Yes our defence is pants we all know that but not dropping a player who has done nothing for the past month even though he wants to leave is inexcusable by wenger. There are players coming through i would give them a run and let sanchez sulk in the stands.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Dec 2017 15:21:12
Everyman and his dog knows wenger needs to leave but not dropping ANY player if he is playing terrible is sending out a bad vibe. sanchez is not the do and end all of arsenal fc. Its inexcusable mertesacker was playing he should have played in the thursday game and holding or chambers should have played today. Also walcott and wilshere should be starting above xhaka and sanchez at the moment. Play the players in form not players living of their names.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Dec 2017 15:42:07
I can't think of one good reason to play Xhaka but I can think of 34 million bad reasons why Arsene does.
34 million is an awful lot of money for any club to pay but for us it's our joint 3rd record spend, for Arsene to accept he got it so badly wrong would be extremely difficult for him.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Dec 2017 16:21:08
"34 million is an awful lot of money for any club to pay but for us it's our joint 3rd record spend, for Arsene to accept he got it so badly wrong would be extremely difficult for him. "

Let's be honest here, admitting a bad purchase is hard for ANYONE! You make it sound like this is just an Arsene trait. Be it 10 quid or 34 million, buyer's remorse happens to each and every one of us. It's that much more difficult though when it's 34 million.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Dec 2017 17:03:54
Arsenalater, sanchez is still performing better than most of the team, to make him the scapegoat is rediculous. Even at 85% he still brings more to this team than most of the other players and other problems that blight this team. Sanchez would probably be able to perform better with a firm base to play off. The reason we are flakey is down to many other things before his problems.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Dec 2017 17:07:21
Arsenalater i'm not blind to sanchezes problems but there are loads of more serious problems with this team before you get to his. Tell me a player who was better than him today, i can't think of one.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Dec 2017 17:39:17
No no Sharpie mate Arsene is renowned for admitting his mistakes and doing something on correcting them by acting decisively and quickly :-)
Let's face it his reputation is built on his openness to being wrong without an ounce of stubbornness.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Dec 2017 21:15:45
Arsenes biggest statement he could make this season is to say to sanchez either perform to your standards you have set or spend the rest of your limited career at arsenal in stands. He needs to stop playing players on reputation and sentiment and bring in hungry players who actually want to play for arsenal which you don't seem to understand steve r. There is no doubting sanchezs talent but he deserves to be dropped like some others who are too comfortable and playing pants. He i agree is not the biggest problem at club but you don't get it that he will not be an arsenal player soon. Get in someone who wants to play for arsenal.

I could have played Eddie Nketia as one of the back 3 than playing Per. He is past it and we can't rely on such a poor player. I bet if we concede a second goal it will be a Per's fault.

Does Wenger never learn not to start games with such a high line?
We could have conceded 3 or 4 in 7 mins.

Not only that, but sometimes a back three is not the option, we looked ridiculously exposed on every counter attack - you are right, could have been 3 or 4. Defensively weak, yet again.

You run at our back 4 you are guaranteed to score.

And Cech is bloody useless. Never pulls off a save.

Surely United away is potentially city's toughest game of the season, tough one to call even though this city side have to be favourites in any premier league fixture now days.
Can see United and Jose causing them real problems though even if they come away still unbeaten.
