Ed Sevilla president has flown into London to speak to a unidentified club about the sale of Negredo. Is it possible the unidentified club could be Arsenal? {Ed035's Note - it is possible, arsenal, Chelsea and spurs are the clubs most likely

Forget transfer window for a moment

WHY ISN'T PODOLSKI PLAYED IN CENTRE?

He's one of the best finishers on the planet, I honestly believe he could be our RVP if we played 2 up top

Sheeny

Believable12 Unbelievable1

It's things like this that make me stop supporting Wenger. I understand that some players are not used how they should be e.g. Bent but the reason for that is that they have a new manager and he has his own plan.

But Podolski - he was bought with the clear intention of playing wide left as a stupid 433 (even if we set it out as a 4231, by the time the guys are on the pitch we always seem to be in a rigid 433 regardless) and this makes no sense. Just typical Wenger BS. He hates buying wide players on the whole but in the last year he's spent £25m on 2 - one was too young and inexperienced, the Ox, and the other totally flopped, Gervinho. Just pisses me off that Wenger puts his own dumb agenda and sacrifices results and performance accordingly.

Honestly which other manager in the world would buy Podolski FOR that position? None. Sure he gets played there on occasion but when Germany do this all their play goes down the right and Pod usually does more defending and mops up when the ball comes out after a German corner, and sends it back in. The attack never goes through him unless he's central. But nooooooo, Wenger has to buy him just to play out there.

Agree8 Disagree6

AGREED!

North Carolina Gooner.

Agree2 Disagree1

I've said before that I struggle to see Podolski as a starting left winger beyond this season, we are ruining him the same we have AA23.

Pod up front is a no brainer, his movement is like RVP, yet he's a better finisher and natural poacher.

good post sheeny.

Arsenal need a real wide player.

hi i been a gunner since i was 5 now im 20 and i miss the good times where we had lots of flair now we olways concede in every game we need a dcm like m.vila and belhanda bains and a goal machine like benzema or cavani but don't think lopez from atletico is the answer he can't score atletico its about time we get big names we the most exbensive to get tickets wenger if he don't sign any 1 that top class he should go we a boring team to watch can't win big teams what every one else think )

Believable1 Unbelievable5

"why not sign mvilla?"

i don't think i've ever read that on here. why has no one else ever thought of that!?

and lescott & bent are just laughable. they don't even have any proper competition for their places at their current clubs yet they still don't get in their teams!

Hi everyone,

I just want to say that i think everyone needs to calm down and atleast wait till the end of the window untill we start slateing Wenger.

I expect 2-3 Signings to made near the end of the window. Rightly or Wrongliy AW wants to deal with Walcott first and then bring the players in, and if reports are to be believed then it could happen very soon.

Wenger also said in an interview that he expected a very calm window to start and then it will pick up towards the end, I don't think he knows what other clubs will do so this is probably based on how our buisness will be done.

Finally why would AW ship out some of the deadwood if he intended on signing on one?

Believable9 Unbelievable3

You are deluded.

Get off your high horse and don't tell anyone to calm down. We have not been slating Wenger for decisions over the last ten days, we have been slating Wenger for the last 3 years of this crap!

Diaby will be the "new signing", and could potentially make a difference, but he will get injured on Feb 1st and be of no help for the rest of the season - a familiar story.

You defend AW by saying he needs to sort Walcott first - wake up kid - this should have been sorted 18 months ago, or 12 months ago, or 6 months ago, or on Jan 1st.

AW is trying to ship out HIS deadwood on loan, with a hope that they can find some form elsewhere and get sold in the summer. There will not be one-for-one replacements, at most one player in with five or so leaving.

Completely blind and deluded.

Agree6 Disagree7

Fans like yourself always miss the boat, always trying to take the moral high ground of giving somebody a chance for the umpteenth time. you will probably be happy when he says diaby and walcott are like new signings.
even the kitchen sink has given up on telling wenger that our problem is defending, you maybe aware that we have some pretty big games coming up in the next month or so which could define our season, wouldnt it be in the best interest of the fans club and all that we buy early and address the very same problems you will probably moan about at the end of the season.....you may not agree but if our defending can be sorted, with our obvious quality upfront and attacking midfield we may actually achieve something.
he needs to buy now to make a statement of intent, give the others something to think about, we have the money, no one is saying bankrupt the club, just for once do the right thing and buy quality where it is required, otherwise we will be left with the scraps as usual.

Arsenal are very tight lipped, i'm afraid, very afraid, no activity this window i suspect. We've loaned Chamackh and Djourou, ok they are backup players but no sign of any action. Get the f*****g finger out or Euro league will be the best hope for next season. I'm having kittens
fearing what's next. My dearest hope is the following newcomers, Soldado, Sneijder and a big dirty growler for the middle.

This has to be the worst transfer window yet!! We actually have some money to spend but still not a single signing. I'm sure alot of work is going on behind closed doors but it is becoming extremely repetitive. Villa, M'Villa, M'Biwa, Schneider, Lopez, Negredo, Zaha, Worm, Butland, Steklenberg..... The list goes on. I just would like 1 decent signing to give the squad a lift, a player which the players and the fans can put their hope in.... Come AFC pull a rabbit out of the hat.

Stoner mate, long day at work so only just catching up. Giggs and Scholes may be coffin dodgers but they are 2 of the most decorated players in the history of the game. Granted it might be time for them to hang up their boots but pray tell, who do you have who compares...who hasn't buggered off somewhere else? I quite like Arsenal and I don't get your bitterness. Scousers yes, bitters yes, even Cheslea, but why are you so...obsessed?

I love the banter but I don't get the antipathy...maybe I'm getting old.

AJH

Believable1 Unbelievable1

Yeah you are getting old, funny enough like scholes and Giggs! The only person who keeps your club at the top is Rednose, and this year without our judas you would be in trouble.

The only way you can get these players now is to offer them 250k per week, and trust me that will not last as all your other players will start wanting the same.

I predict you will slip behind your neighbours and chelski next season and when Rednose leaves even further behind .

337

Agree4 Disagree0

Good old wishful thinking. Still don't understand why you are all so bitter...and reading this site most of you are complaining about your wage structure. £250K a week is possibly 2 players, our salaries as a percentage of turnover is healthy. I actually think when SAF retires we will kick on further...but you can keep dreaming and hoping.

AJH

Agree0 Disagree2

I do love the way you say 'the only reason you keep at the top is because of SIR alex' then in the same statment say we would be nowhere with out RVP hmmmm well that's two people already, wot about hernandez's late goals or rooneys influence or vidic back or young Raffa turning into a great full back??? But in all honesty i dnt blame your straw clutching i understand it tbh, i mean let be honest your not exactly a 'big' team anymore

"The only reason you're winning", THEY ARE SODDING WINNING. what is going on with wenger and afc were been out done by spuds in the transfer market now at this rate it will be on the pitch too!! they appear to be linked to some quality players that we should be looking at too!!! we have completly lost touch in the market im thinking another dissapointing transfer deadline coming our way!! things need to change !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Believable9 Unbelievable6

Please stop this doom and gloom and BS about the spuds, this isnt just directed at you but everyone who has posted similar things.

They have signed 1 player who I really don't rate, on a pre-season contract. They are linked with all the same players we are so you can't moan about that.

In the summer, we sold our best player in RVP but they sold Modric and RVDV. Yes they sign Dembele who i think is quality but we sign Cazorla who IMO is better. The only one that annoyed me was Vertongen but hey you can't win them all.

M'Biwa & M'Vila on their way for certain. A reliable source that advised me when Wenger himself signed & when we signed Sol Campbell, has informed me.
Walcott will sign a new deal, giving Wenger sufficient attacking options. So no further signings:
Squad:
G: Szczesny Fabianski Mannone
RB: Sagna Jenkinson
LB: Gibbs Santos
CB: Vermaelen Koscielny
CB: Mertesacker M'Biwa
M: Arteta Wilshere Abu Diaby Ramsey Cazorla Coquelin M'Vila
M: Oxlade Gervinho Rosicky

The names are being reeled off thick and fast in the search for arsenal's new player.villa, shaw, m'vila, negredo, zaha, mapou m'bwia, butland, capoue, el shawarry etc. In fact the entire panini sticker album has been associated with the emirates. I was just wondering what your dream signing would be. Be realistic, it is arsene who likes a deal more than Arthur Daley. I'm a Liverpool fan who has a big soft spot for The Arsenal due to a Grandad who supported the Gunner.. I grew up adoring players like Bergkamp, Henry, Pires, Viera, Campbell, Ljunberg etc and I love your teams style of play and have massive admiration for everything your club does.
I notice that Arsenal fans do not seem to be impressed with Scezney and very few of you rate him - Personally I believe that he will be your keeper for the next ten years but out of interest, would you prefer to sign a top quality centre back or a top class GK.. would love to know!

Believable7 Unbelievable1

Centre back mate. Scezney can make mistakes ( who can't.) but his confidence in himself will make him one of the best. Another g.k would be handy just to keep him on his toes, but not as important as a d.m l.b and another creative player.

What's arsenals position in terms of Negredo. He seems like an Arsenal type signing. Sevilla need money, arsenal need a striker. proven yet quite unknown outside of spain. Reports in Spain indicating sevilla personel heading to England. What's your thoughts?

Believable1 Unbelievable4

I don't understand all the talk about how we need a striker.. we have giroud and if we get a versatile winger then podolski can rotate at striker as well, plus walcott wants to play there too.. plus walcott wanting to play striker means we need another winger, someone who can actually cross an accurate ball.. that and a solid DM (come on M'Villa) and maybe someone else to shore up the back 4 and i think we're set.

I used to respect him and listen to him commentate on games, but recently he is so negative. Have just read an article where he claims that Theos new contract (88k per week) is more than double what he deserves, we all know this is a lot of money, but he does deserve to be on par with Podolski etc....

you guys are going to be also rans if your not carefu. i think it sounds like you will get m'vila as he has requested a transfer (tapping up, naughty) but i am not sure who else will come. seven years is a long time to be out of the limelight (no trophies) so young players don't fancy the prospect of coming to you as a club, holtby is the perfect example of the power shift between you and spurs AVB has made that difference sure but so has the old fashioned out of sync AW if you lose at the weekend as expected and spurs win it will start to look like your in their shade so its not who comes in but more who goes because until AW goes you don't look like an attractive prospect. Also i don't see re-signing walcott as much of an answer as he hasnt and won't help you win trophies cos isnt even close to world class but i guess he is in good company cos none of the team are nor will be whilst you have the same manager

dave

Believable4 Unbelievable14

Absolute rubbish about arsenal not being a desirable club to play for.. why did oxlade-chamerlain choose us over man utd and chelsea then if no young players want to play for the arsenal?

yes we are going through a tough period and have been for the last seven years since the move from highbury but we have a long term plan unlike other top teams that just pour more money in and pay ridiculous player salaries and take a loss every year and go into debt.. son people will see the football genius that is Arsene Wenger.. im not one of those "in arsene we trust" folk, i wish we were more competitive but i don't think any other club could relocate as we did and remain in the top 4 every year.. There was talk of Jenkinson departing on loan, which presumably means we are signing a player. Possibly M'Biwa who can play at Right back & centre back. This would make sense as Jenkinson could gain valuable experience elsewhere and we would have a replacement for Sagna who looks likely to depart in the summer as he criticised Wenger.

Hi Ed - What do you think about Eisfield? I think he is a quality player.

Rock. {Ed001's Note - excellent player, injury did hold him back, but he was rated extremely highly before that injury. He seems to have recovered really well from it, maybe even taken some time to learn more about the game while out, because he seems to be better than he was to me.}

Arsenal needs the following players this window;

1. Lopex to support our attack (we should triger the buy out clause)
2. Flemini to support our midfield (we should triger the buy out clause)
3. Mbiwa to support the defence
4. A new goalkeeper

This in addition to a new contract to Walcot will ensure a balanced team with strong attacking and defensive options. This will ensure a top three finish at the end of the season

Afro KC

Who on earth are Lopex and Flemini?

Third i see your aiming high then. do you accept another trophy-less season then. Such a shame arsenal used to be such a big club and now your just doing a liverpool

dave

1. Doubt many Arsenal fans has seen Lopez play. He's not Arsenal quality.

2. We don't want Flamini back, no way. Not good enough anymore.

3. Agree. M'Biwa is class.

4. Agree but wouldn't panic if a new GK isn't bought.

Saw this attacking formation on one of the websites, reverting back to a 442 with Cazorla and Podolski being the new look Pires and Ljungberg!!

Cazorla Wilshere NewDM/Diaby Podolski
Walcott Giroud

Before anyone goes on about Arteta and his stats, he could alternate with either wilshere or Diaby/DM. This would keep us fresh for the season instead of running the players into the ground. We could have back ups in the shape of the OX, Rosicky, Ramsey, Arteta, new LM, new ST (Lopez)

If we manage to get Adrian Lopez, he could cover either wing or the striking position.

Same defence, although hopefully with a bit more defensive coaching ie scrap zonal marking and for me we would have a team pushing for honours.

I like this with a few tweaks.

Ox Wilshere New DMF/Diaby Santi
Theo Podolski

I think Giroud needs to be rotated with Pod and Pod should be kept away from the wings.
Also we need a DMF as Diaby is not that and is too injury prone.

I must admit I was looking forward to this January transfer window because I thought we would complete some early signings to strengthen the squad so we would be stronger and ready for Man City Chelsea and Liverpool, but 10 days have passed and nothing. What I find most annoying though is that every target we get linked to or look like signing we either don't or goes elsewhere. Whether you think they are good signings or not, Demba Ba was said to be on his way to Arsenal and a top target, joins Chelsea, Wenger says Holtby is a top target for us joins Spurs, We are in for Zaha but we pull out now United are said to be in pole position, Same with McCarthy who now Everton want. If we really want David Villa or Adrian Lopez as well I do not understand why we haven't tested both clubs resolve with a real offer It's all well and good for Sandro Rosell to say he isn't moving but as we know from Arsenal when an offer is on the table things can quickly change, and if they refuse we are no worse off than when we started.

I also don't understand why if we really want top quality players why we haven't taken advantage of Spain's financial problems and particularly talent like Isco. Or if we want premier league players, Fellaini and his suggested 22 million release clause for champions league squads, who could play for us as well against Bayern. And I mean really still no defensive midfielder this is just ridiculous.

But i forgot Diaby is back from his 3 week lay off 3 months later so there is out Steel in the Midfield and Walcott is about to sign a new contract and will be our new striker, so they will be like new signings.

Hope something happens and fast

Laudrup? Are you serious? He was fired in Spartak, Getafe AND Mallorca. Just because he took over a succesful team doesn't make him exceptional. That's like Villanova in Barca. Don't even know the Emre lad.

Anonymous one, you are just proving your ignorance now.
Laudrup was never sacked by Getafe nor Mallorca, in fact he resigned from both posts. He left Getafe after leading them to a Kings cup final and a Europa leauge knock out phase defeat to Bayer Munich. He left Mallorca because the board sacked his assistant without his knowledge ( something you clearly lacking).

Everywhere he has managed he changed and improve that teams style of play, from Brondby all the way to Swansea.

You say he took over a succesfull team? On what planet do you live? Every man and his dog can see he improved an ober achieving Swansea team and has turned them into a threat. You drawing comparison to Brendon Rogers' Swansea with Guardiola's Barca? You are clueless mate.

And lastly, Emre was the manager of Valencia a couple of seasons ago when they were comfortabley the best team behind Madrid and Barcelona in La liga. You can credit him for getting the likes of Mata, Silva, Banega, Villa, Soldado, Pablo H and the likes to play some of the best footy in Europe at a time. Is it any coincidence that Valencia are struggling in the league now that he left? No.

Just get your facts right before you show off how little you actually know. I bet you did not know that Wenger left Nancy after getting them relegated in Ligue 1, then was sacked by Monaco even though he had players like Glen Hoddle, Jurgen Klinsmen and George Weah.

GET YOUR FACTS STRAIT BEFORE YOU START POSTING KAK!

La Liga is struggling financially, so we should really make the most of it, like we did when we signed Cazorla.

Obviously we can't go and sign Ronaldo but there are a few players that are quality and that we could get for a reduced price.

Muniain, Soldado, Navas (homesick i know), Isco etc.
are just a few names of who we could possibly get...

It worked with Cazorla, why can't we do it again?

Seriously.. people need to get a grip and see that the manager is not the problem, it's the playing staff, we need a couple more world class attacking options and we will be winning silverware.
A change in manager and the unstability that will come with it is NOT what we need right now.

Well it would appear that they have discovered a problem which they think can be solved. Apparantly he has a problem with the fibre in his muscles which causes them to damage easily and not heal very fast.

They think that this can be resolved with a diet/supplement and are confident he may be much better.

My assessment of our deadwood:

Mannone - Guff
Fabianski - Tragic
Squilacci - Stan Laurel
Djourou - Grover
Santos - High as a kite
Coquelin - Not good enough
Frimpong - Liability
Denilson - Uninspiring
Ramsey - Poo
Rosicky - Done
Diaby - Made of glass
Arshavin - Uninterested
Gervinho - Headless chicken
Bendtner - World most deluded striker
Park - WTF?
Chamakh - Cristiano Ronaldo's ugly untalented brother

=

Approximately £850k a week.

What a waste! Not one of them is good enough for Arsenal. Even as a back up! It's no wonder we're failing.

You can't bathe in rubbish and expect to come out smelling of roses!

Agree2 Disagree0

Spot on. I know every Manager has made bad signings, but that's the vast majority of our squad.
Flybo

Agree2 Disagree0

Mannone - Perfectly Decent Third Choice Keeper
Fabianski - Adequate back up keeper
Squilacci - Not quite as bad as everyone would like to think. Would do a solid job at most prem teams
Djourou - Decent player, nothing spectacular, can't get much better as 4th choice
Santos - Can be liable defensively
Coquelin - Has a lot of potential has not had a chance to prove that on a consitant basis
Frimpong - Overenthusiastic, still learning
Denilson - Develpment faltered when Wilshere got in his way
Ramsey - One of the best young British players around
Rosicky - Still can do a solid job
Diaby - When fit as good as anyone
Arshavin - Potentially game changing, lacked consistency
Gervinho - Unconventional, but can be effective
Bendtner - World most deluded striker, but not the worlds worst
Park - Not sure what happened there
Chamakh - Everyone forgets he was good his first half season when playing regularly

The problem with post of these players is they need regular games in order to perform to their potential (apart from fabianski who is good for a game and then gets worse the more he is played) but they have not performed in the short bursts when they have had a chance so have therefore been given less of chance and the perceived downward spiral intensifies.

Chess

Agree3 Disagree1

Ramsey, Rosicky and maybe even Gervinho are decent squad players.

Diaby could start for us, such a waste of talent.

Nick.

Agree2 Disagree1

Poly- how's about this:

Mannone- agreed, decent third choice
Fabianski - lack of confidence has made him shocking. Not adequate in any way due to this.
Squillaci- agreed not as bad but he would play for a team fighting relegation probably, he is poor. Whatever he once had, he lost when we bought him. Has been the fault of goals and all round poor defence almost every time he's played - in fact I can only remember 2 games where he wasn't shocking and nobody was happy to see him play. We still lost both.
Djourou - one of the most nervous, least composed defenders going - no other top 4 club has a 4th choice as bad as this. We could get a far better 4th choice to rotate for cup games as well instead of using kids who aren't ready. Needs to go.
Santos - I wouldn't have minded him being used as a winger, I really liked him being used in attack in pre-season but he needs run in this position. Can't defend though, is unfit, needs to go. Keeps getting into trouble too.
Coquelin - imo would be a great wing back, not good enough in midfield, hasn't shown me he will be but there is something about him that makes me think he should stay until he's 22 or 23 then we judge him.
Frimpong - liability. There are better out there.
Denilson- get rid.
Ramsey- get rid. IMO he's had it far too easy, he's had all the time in the world to get back to his best, thing is I think he is at his best. At any rate he's a hard worker and a good footballer to an extent but he simply isn't arsenal. Sell him.
Rosicky - class player when fit
Diaby - same but time for him to go
Arshavin - if only he worked harder
Gervinho - get this clown out asap
B52- likewise. Give him away. Just free up the bloody slot.
Park - could have been a good back up ina 442 but again he was played wide left usually and it was a waste, the guy has some real strengths that we lack. IMO worst signing of Wenger's recent history simply because the guy wasn't even used! We just killed his career.
Chamakh - once he was good. Now he's not. Should have sold him to Bordeaux.
