Couldn't care if we sign Vardy or not - I want pace, movement and goals. Happy with anyone who ticks those boxes but I do love these quotes from Henry and Mills.

Listen. All I can say is if I was playing for Leicester and I had Arsenal coming, I would have gone. "

Mills added: "I would have walked to Arsenal! "

👌.

Probably - yes but would rather have both

Certainly want Mkhitaryan and we best pull our finger out as him not joining us and joining a rival really sucks as it sounds like he is a Gooner at heart and was involved in almost 40 goals last season which is ridiculous

Get the cheque book out - I will fly out and negotiate the deal if we are too busy.

Think we've got enough defensive players now with Xhaka, Elneny and Coquelin not to mention other central players in Ramsey, Wilshere, Cazorla and Ozil. I reckon he's either Chelsea or PSG bound depending on whether they sell Matic.

Mark Swarzer is available on a free and we should grab him with both hands? Why? He's been part of the winning premier league squad for the last two seasons running. Chelsea and Leicester. Don't question it just go with it :-)

any update on Morata? I keep seeing him being linked with every top club in England at the moment so have we lost interest? And is there any interest at all in Lukaku? Still believe he would be good with Özil linking up.

People are complaining about his goals record but considering the minutes he played his goals to games ratio is quite impressive because unlike Dybala he doesn't take set pieces. He also scores in big games which is a fantastic asset. I'd love him but I wouldn't go anywhere over 35-40 million.

Juventus don't seem to give two shizzles about that stat either. People can always find at least one stat that is good look at some of girouds stats certain stats have him been better than messi and ronaldo. Titus bramble had a stat for the having the heaviest head in world football allegedly but I'm only 80% certain of that one. Is he available.

I don't understand why is Giroud getting so much stick by the media and the fans throughout his career. I mean yeah he's not a world class striker but he is far from a bad one. he's scored 15+ goals every season and still constantly receives more criticism than players who do way less. I think people should give the guy a break as he doesn't deserve this kind of treatment.

Who was it that called him the French Heskey.

It's probably a fair analogy. He's a big strong player who works hard. It's unfair to compare him with the likes of pacey/ skillful forwards.

He isn't the best, and not really starting XI, but surely we all appreciate some of the big goals he scored for us last year.

10 Jun 2016 10:32:09
Ok so are you fine with him been our no1 this year.

10 Jun 2016 10:54:20
Every team needs options. I think giroud is a great option. First of all he scores far more goals than heskey. If we added someone like Hernandez, vardy or any other striker who has a bit more pace and is more of a potent finisher, it'd be two good options.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Jun 2016 12:05:28
Don't get me wrong i want giroud at arsenal, if he's happy been number two. He is a different approach but plan B for me we need a plan A striker.

10 Jun 2016 12:33:48
I think we are all saying the same thing.

Giroud is good, but he is no Yaya Sanogo. : )

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Jun 2016 18:13:46
I don't understand how Giroud is guilty of us not having enough options upfront. If we lack a pacy killer striker then its the manager's fault not our only real striker. I mean he was running his own mafia in Arsenal and national team to keep himself as the main striker then he would have deserved the stick.

Giroud has always done his best to the role he has been given, if you have a problem go ahead and scream at AW not Giroud.

Agree1 Disagree0

10 Jun 2016 18:36:33
Giroud says every single summer he hopes Arsene signs another striker as he would welcome the competition, it looks like Arsene is finally trying to get the best he can actually get rather than chase more rainbows so let's see who we get.
Personally I wouldn't want Benteke to join us but if it happens it would be an improvement on Higuain and Benzema cardboard cut outs we seem to give a medical to each summer.

Yesterday I commented that I felt we needed at least 2 new full backs; cover for Bellerin as Debuchy appears to be leaving, Jenkinson appears surplus to requirements and is out with serious injury, whilst Chambers has been moved to CB, after some poor displays at RB.
I also feel that neither of our LB's are top quality and we need to sign at least one, in the summer window, possibly another in the winter window.
I stated that interestingly neith of our LB's were selected for their national teams, which was criticised by a couple of fellow Gooners.
Interestingly, to confirm the validity of my comments, almost every player in our squad are in their nations Euro squad. Those that are not, are either injured or are not European.
The ones that are not at the Euros or in their national team's squads are: Monreal, Gibbs, Walcott, Ox (injury) , Cazorla (recovered too late from injury to be selected) , Mertesacker (retired from international football, Gabriel, Coquelin and Welbeck (injured) .
Out of these 9 players, one has retired from internationals, 3 are injured or came back from injury too late to be considered. Whilst the remaining 5 players consist of the two full backs that I believe are not good enough at the top level, one whom (Gibbs) has been reported to want a move. They include Walcott who has been off form, but when on form is a fine player and Gabriel who hasn't lived up to his promise. That leaves Coqulein, who came back from Charlton and surprised us all with his performances. He dropped off a little last season, but we have signed Elneny and now Xhaka, who could both be selected ahead of him, but he is without doubt a useful squad player. Going back to Gibbs and Monreal, even at their best they are simply not good enough and I would like to see them replaced with the excellent Rodriguez and Ben Chilwell. These two players are young, full of pace and Chilwell is homegrown which is important. I would also like to see a tall commanding pacy CB signed. I would break the bank for Varane, if he can be bought.

Firstly, you're making irrelevant points again. Nigel winterburn, Steve bould and Lee Dixon had 26 caps between them. Ray parlour had 10.
James milner has 60 caps. Kyle walker is first choice England right back. gignac is in the France squad. So is the distinctly average moussa sissoko. Aduriz is in the Spain squad. Danny effing rose is first choice England left back. Are any of these players good replacements for anything we have? Stop coming out with ridiculous statements. Whether a player plays for their international squad is irrelevant.

Maybe we should sign podolski back because he's in the Germany squad. That'd be good. He could take Walcott's place in the squad because podolski is going and Walcott isn't. Then maybe we can replace coquelin with jordan Henderson. That'd be great.

10 Jun 2016 10:16:07
Exactly how many players do you want us to sign?
2 wing backs
1 CB
1 Striker

While Varane is class, he is extremely injury-prone. Really he should be playing in Italy.

For the Wing-backs, I think you are right that Gibbs might go, and hence Monreal and Rodriguez can battle it out (with Monreal keeping his starting place) .

On the RB, I understand what your concern is, however, IF we sign a CB, it's safe to assume that chambers will stay at RB for this season as well.

Next year, Mets will likely be allowed to leave on a free, at which point Chambers may be shifted back to CB and a new RB comes in as cover.

CS - Don't be silly by just reeling off internationals and suggesting them as replacements for our players. It is the other way round, if these players are current Internationals, then one must wonder why Gibbs and Monreal are not. Virtually every first team player in the elite european teams are current Internationals and none of those clubs would consider having Gibbs or Monreal in their teams, then why should we? We need to improve our squad in order to once again compete with the best. Incidentally, my points are highly relevant. Out of interest who would you replace and with which players that are realistically available?

Billybob - Yes, precisely we need 4 or 5 players in order to compete at the very top level. You agree that Varane is class, he would be a quality signing. Mertesacker is not a suitable player for a team that plays a high defensive line. Gabriel hasn't settled in well. In respect of Chambers, he has already been moved across to CB, as his performances at RB were poor, hence we need cover at RB. Yes, I agree that we should let Gibbs go and sign Rodriguez. I would then replace Monreal in the following window or at latest in next summer's window.
If our defensive options next season were; Bellerin and a new RB (suggestions welcome) , Rodriguez and Monreal at LB - Koscileny, Varane, Gabriel and Chambers at CB, it would be an improvement on last season. Having made an excellent signing in Xhaka, we would then need a quality forward to complete and improve the squad.

Highly relevant? Not really. Whether a player plays for national team isn't relevant.

As you asked, i'd like a new striker, like everyone. I'm reasonably happy with vardy for a couple of seasons. I think we could with upgrading on the right wing. Sanchez plays very well and scores a lot of his goals coming from the left. We are apparently interested in mkhitaryan or whatever his name is. I'd be happy with that. And a center back I'd like. I've been defensive of bfg over the last couple of Years, but I think we could do with an upgrade. Plenty of good CB's about.

Unlike you i'm happy with the full backs. I think jenks is excellent backup to Bellerin and he will only get better. I thought he was good for west ham. I thing Gabriel is a good third choice cb. Until jenks is fit chambers 4th choice cb and cover for Bellerin. The midfield positions have so much cover its crazy. And up front with a new RW and striker I thibk we are sorted, and we are well placed to retain our 4th place trophy ;-)

I just want to say one thing about this nonsense about converted players etc.
I just come across a post by RG and another.
Whether a player use to play in goal at some point and is now a striker is irrelevant.
Fact is clubs love a player that is flexible and they are able to move him around if need be. Some of the best players I've ever seen started as strikers and are now playing at the back. Why? because good clubs recognise that ex strikers playing as defenders have a good perspective of the game from a strikers point of view.
I remember when one of my sons was at the Chelsea academy when it was at Sipson Lane near Heathrow as a goalkeeper years ago and a guy called Neal Bath said that they like to see a goalie in training playing as an outfield player too. When I asked why he said because they get a different perspective on the game. At first I thought it a bit strange then it made sense.
It really doesn't matter where a player started its how he ends up that counts.
I for one think that Monreal played a blinder last season and thoroughly deserved his spot.
What's your opinion EDS.

{Ed001's Note - Jamie Carragher started off as a striker, moved back into midfield, then ended up a first team player as a defender. What difference does it make where they play? Ajax's domination was built on young players being taught to play every position before breaking through.

Steven Gerrard began his Liverpool career as a defender. Ian Rush started in midfield. It is the most pointless discussion I have ever seen and anyone who thinks where they played before makes a difference has no understanding of the game, at all.}

I believe you are missing the point I was making, that some players, of course, do make a transisition from one position to another; Bellerin from RW to RB. Others don't. Good players can play in various positions, but almost always have a favourite position where they play at their best. Ramsey can play on the right side of an attacking three, but looks far better in the central midfield attacking role. At Arsenal we have too many players for the central attacking midfield role; Ozil, Ramsey, Cazorla and Wilshere. We tend to accomodate these players by playing them in other positions, but this has hardly been a success, having not won the Premier League title since 2004, when I believe most players played in their favourite positions.
As a final comment, we all remember the players that made a success of a change of position, but forget the ones that don't or return to their favoured position, as the change simply didn't work. I also disagree with the comment in respect of Monral, who is an honest, hardworking pro, but nowhere near the class of Cole or Sansom. Not one top European team would sign Monreal. If we want to be a top European side, we need to have players that could grace the top clubs, not simply honest, hard working players.
