Banbury and Ed you mock me for using journalists opinions on football to back up my own?
At the end of the day, like them or not, they have made a career on giving their football opinion out, people pay to hear what they have to say.
And if you two like it or not, no one would pay to hear any of your football opinions.

And mocking Barton is even worse, the guy has made a career out of playing the game and Jack's position in particular.

Sorry boys :/

(ps you say don't take things so seriously but you jump down anyone throats with an opposing opinion to yourself, you included Ed)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I have no idea about which Ed you are grizzling about, but I could introduce you to good straight up journalists who do a neat job and equally self-promoting mothers looking for a career boost.}

Ahhhhhhh I am understanding it now, to know anything about football you have to be a journalist .

I would saying playing at a decent level and being paid for it, is always a good start as it gives you a bit of an idea.

What think you LG x

Jeez LG, lighten up

Barton may of made a name as a footballer, but he's made a bigger name as a complete tool.
I'd never take anything he says seriously.

Agree0 Disagree0

Little gunner, people buy papers to read a paper. Not for a particular journalist. Some people respect these people's opinions, but generally people that have a clue do not. Just like people who have a clue tend not to trust the people writing at the front half of the paper also. And what kind of argument is that anyway? People don't want to hear our opinions because we chose a different career path. If we decided to be journalists, and thus managed to forge a career in journalism, probably starting in an area of journalism unrelated to sport like the people you mentioned, then people might want to hear our opinions. That doesn't make them any more valid. In fact, maybe less, because I'd have spent the past 10 years of my life working 14 hours a day as a journalist, writing articles in the evenings, sending around cv's, and not concentrating on football as much as the average football fan.

Banbury, I've never been of the opinion playing football means you'll have a good knowledge of the game. So many footballers talk rubbish and haven't got a clue. I'd say there are more footballers who've played in the football league that don't have a good in depth knowledge of the ins and outs of the game than do. One example is Ian Wright. Legend and great player, but as a football pundit? Not good.

Agree0 Disagree0

All il say to this is. Oh dear

Dags - same old. I tried having a debate, Ed25 and Banbury started on me. Don't try and make out this is my fault again.
Mgm - he (Barton) is a tool, but a tool that knows that he's talking about, he would of been more successful as a footballer if it wasn't for the antics, he's a very decent player!
CS - playing football does not guarantee you know your stuff but it sure helps. The details professional clubs so into to improve performance are unreal, unbelievable if you didn't know different. And being subjected to that most days of your career sure will make you understand the game much more than your average Joe.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note -

Lol

CS

My point poorly mad, nearly as bad as your example is that, let's use Wrighty, he will have a much better understanding of the game than a back of the paper journalist, he has played top flight football.

Being a pundit, is totally different, and I can't see where I said that?

Im talking knowledge of the game, being in certain situations.

I played at a decent level and some of my mates who hardly played have no understanding of reading a game, pace of a game, positioning. Blah blah blah

C S, fantastic post.

LG, I said lighten up because you got upset and took it personally because Banbury and Ed (it was 001 btw) disagreed with you.

Its banter, lighten up mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

Basically most footballers bar a few exceptions make poor pundits because they are about as intelligent as a dormouse's toe. That's what happens when you stop being educated at 13 to kick a football instead, you end up sounding like Rio Ferdinand. Still I suppose they have the last laugh, thick as a plank but in the top 5 percent of earners.

Agree0 Disagree0

Banbury, I wasn't comparing Ian wright to journalists, I was talking about his ability to actually understand what he's seeing when he watches football. He's not good at that at all. As aren't lots of footballers. As I'm probably not. Just an opinion, obviously you don't agree and that's fine. Doesn't matter, does if?

And little gunner. Seriously, do you think being trained to play a certain way and training drills teaches you to judge a footballers ability and potential, and teaches a tactical knowledge? Because I don't. I really think being a good footballer who can read the game when playing is entirely different to what we are talking about, watching, understanding and assessing how a game has been played, and giving a good analysis. I mean let's be honest, if the guys you mentioned were any good, they'd probably not have to be journalists.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Sep 2014 07:16:44
On him being a decent player that's your opinion, and mine is, he's just a cut above average, and anything that comes out of his mouth (football related included) is a load of bull.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - and Ian Wright, while a great player, knows nothing about the game as a pundit, that is why he is a pundit. Players like him play on instinct, they don't think, they do, that is why they were great, as it was instant, rathr than having to stop and think. Unfortunately that means they don't often know why they did what they did or how to teach it to someone else.}

11 Sep 2014 08:02:40
Thank god for that, imagine joey Bartons school of football.
Lesson 1) how to p!ss people off with a tweet.

But I agree about wright and people alike, they go on there merit as a footballer and think that's enough to make it as a pundit.

Just watched the Ramsey injury, he is due for a scan, if that's the case it is giving him some pain.

I do not expect him to play on Saturday

Hey Banbury at what point in the season do you reckon you'll open the curtains and let a little sunshine slip through the gloom. :-)

I actually look forward to your one liners of doom. Lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

Oh ok

Let me say, he will be as fit as a fiddle, probably run a marathon before the game.

Does that make you happy.

Just saying. . . . . . IF he has to have a scan, he must be feeling some pain.

Doo you really think AW will play

Have a think and come back to me?

Why risk him on one fixture when there is 8 months to go .

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Sep 2014 22:07:59
See if you can let in a little ray of humour in to when you open the curtains, jeez you are one miserable sarky plank.

Of course he probably won't play and no one wants him out for months.

Lighten up you harbinger of doom.

Agree0 Disagree0

What is pessimistic about that post? It simply states that he is injured, going for a scan because he feels some pain and Banbury does not expect him to play Saturday.

What's the need for these replies?

Agree0 Disagree0

I know stick your head in the sand when there is trouble ahead.

I am giving an opinion, gosh! I am sorry it isn't what you want to hear.

But you saying of course he won't play is different to what I posted .in what way.

That makes you as miserable as me, you tree trunk x

G95 and Banbury,

My original post had a :-) and a lol as a leg pull, which Banbury you as others have used plenty of times before.

If I hit a nerve well what can I say :-)

I could have said the same about your BIG FAT C post further down as a leg pull.

Jeez man this is a banter site isn't it. :-)

TEAM NEWS: Ramsey, Arteta, Ozil and Gibbs available for Saturday

Agree0 Disagree0

I know we were all kind of desperate for a top quality DM but if we defend better from front to back as a team it may not be such a huge handicap as we think.

United as poor as they've been won the title in 2012 with Carrick pretty much playing that role and no disrespect to him but he is not a top drawer DM.

We now, with Welbeck and Sanchez have two forwards with an awesome work ethic, if Walcott takes a leaf out of their book and works as they do it can only be a huge plus

We then have Ramsey who we know loves a tackle along with Arteta who won't be left out of the team and Ozil assisting the three speed merchants up front.

Here's hoping the City game springs us into life and we start playing as good on grass as we look on paper.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Hi red I hope your right mate but I must admit to being ever such a lot more than slightly worried about some repeats of our meltdowns of last season.
When we went to city last year I thought we'd win I really did, then Anfield I absolutely knew we had too much for Liverpool and when we went to the boot sale for Arsene's 1000 game I knew it would be tough but I also knew the lads and Arsene wouldn't let it happen again especially not on Arsene's big day.
Sorry if I sound pessimistic but I can't find it in myself to faithfully ignore the evidence of last season, I do want to truly I do but I need to be convinced this time round
A quality DM and I'd be up there with all the optimists I realy would but in their absence I will have to settle for seeing is believing and I so want to be filled with optimism come Saturday night after the game as much as before it.
Love the Arsenal and absolutely hate us being embarrassed in front of millions I really do

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Sep 2014 22:32:16
I hear what you say Red,

But its still pretty much the same back 4, with Arteta as DM (or Flamini) that got spanked by Chelsea, Liverpool and City.

Yes, best way to stop the opposition would be to use our pace and try to keep hold of the ball, but I still worry when we are under attack.

Just saw the pics on arsenal.com, great to see ozil, Kosc and Arteta back in training, so some injury worries can lay rest, ramsey has himself said he should be fine which is also great news. Joel, Podolski and Ospina as well, so looks good from an injury front. Not too sure where our english core is though Wellbeck, Ox, jack, Gibbs

Is Abu Diaby fit yet?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Havnt seen him listed as injured since pre season. If there's a game I think we will see him play it will be Southampton in the Cap1 cup in 2 weeks time.

Agree0 Disagree0

Physioroom has us listed with 5 injured players, Ramsey, Ozil, Gnabry, Giroud and Walcott.

Ozil listed to return 13th Sept with no return dates for Giroud, Gnabry and Ramsey, the latter because I guess he won't have been assessed yet.

Only concern is Walcott whose return date keeps getting put further away, now out until 27th September.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yup usual nonsense re:Walcott. I always felt that he would return in October, rather than September, particularly as we have lots of options, why rush him back.

Agree0 Disagree0

I have always said Wenger blags the return date on players to stop the heat fro the press and fans alike during the transfer window. I heard before the world cup that he (Walcott)might be out for 12 months which would take us to December.

Agree0 Disagree0

I find it quite negative to suggest an early date and then keep putting it back.

Didn't look good, Rambo is pretty tough as we know and he stayed down for quite a while

Agree0 Disagree0

Quotes as per ramsey

“I’ll be alright – the pitch was very hard there’s no give in it so I rolled my ankle a bit, ” he said.

“Hopefully it will be nothing and I’ll be available for Saturday. These are the games you want to play in and I’m looking forward to it.”

Agree0 Disagree0

It was the 94th minute, they'd just scored a late winner, has it crossed anyone's mind that he went down for longer than perhaps needed to use up some time? He'll be there on Saturday for sure!

So with Saturday fast approaching how confident are you feeling?
A extremely, expect a repeat of the community shield result.
B confident of a win but expect it to be tight.
C expect a draw
D slightly apprehensive but think we can get something from the game
E will be watching from behind the couch as fear the worst

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I will go for option B. Will be a tight game. Somehow, City haven't yet hit the dizzy heights they attained last season

Agree0 Disagree0

I too will opt for option B. Confident, but then I usually am. Whether we play like we can is another matter entirely!

Agree0 Disagree0

I`ll go for option (A) a repeat of Community Sheild.

Time for us to make a statement to rest of Premiership City have a few out so a good time to meet them them also will give Wellbeck an ideal sitation to show what his worth.

come on you gunners!

Agree0 Disagree0

Il say D based on our league form and that City are a wounded animal after stoke and from their point of view what better place to put in a performance than against us.
I do believe we can get something. Will be ecstatic if we get more than a point.

Anyone know if Ramsey's Injury tonight is serious or just 'a knock'. Definatley don't need another injury.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He got a kick on the ankle and there was a slight twist apparently?! Knowing our luck, he's out for the season!
