Arteta and Flamini should never be side by side.
It failed against man utd, it failed again tonight. We need someone with pace and directness to bring the ball out of defence. Arteta has to be dropped with either Rambo or Arteta playing alongside Flamini. As for Giroud, again we saw nice back to goal play, hard work, what we expect, but no goals. He's just too slow. A striker needs to offer up opportunities to score, not just hold the ball up. Tonight cried out for some pace upfront to hit napolis high line

Tonight was a colossal f.up. we played a near fill strength team, failed to get a result and knackered themselves in the process. To boot were going to be up against some real quality in the second round.

Oh well, onwards/upwards.

Lets make amends at the weekend

Agree For me Flamini is a auto starter now and starts over Arteta and he gives better attack/defence balance alongside Wilshire, Ramsey or Rosicky.

Arteta may be a better passer but Flaminin gives that extra energy and agression in midfeild and is a good orgainiser in front of back 4. With the twio togther there is too much space between the midfeilders as both like to hold back.

{Ed039's Note - I said during the summer that Flamini would be one of the best signings of the summer for any Prem side, especially on a free transfer)

Positive:
We're through. When the draw was announced it was the toughest of the lot and one big club would not go through. Thankfully it is not us. We're in the last 16.
Negative:
Losing tonight and with Dortmunds win means we finish second and will play either Real Madrid, Barcelona, PSG, Bayer Munich or Athletico Madrid. Also we now go in to Saturdays game against city who have just beaten Bayern away, and in the process resting players while we come off of a 2.0 defeat.
I'm going away for a few days so won't be able to post until midweek. By then the city game will be done and dusted. I'd be over the moon with a draw.

Anyone happy with that result is deluded can not believe we let 2nd goal in has made it very tough for us. Best hope we get PSG or A.madrid in draw . We was solid in first half then arteta let us down his just to slow has been good for us yes but his just to slow and most of his passes go sideways I very worried about city on Saturday I'd take a draw now

Not being doom and gloom but big few games for us and we have to step up a draw and a loss is not the form of would be champions long way to go but get a result Saturday and prove we can mix it with the big boys

Believable0 Unbelievable0

5 minutes and it would have been a perfect group and Wenger would have been a genius with Dortmund out on 10 points after drawing with Marseille and us through top on goal difference.

When will Wenger realise that Arteta has been surpassed now. Absolutely awful tonight and that red card was coming, once again Wenger gets it's wrong.

I am pro Wenger but for some reason he seems to think that Flamini and Arteta can close games out, Utd and Napoli, both teams we should have attacked he picks a team to sit back, WTF pulling my hair out.

Not only do we lose but we surrender and I mean, SURRENDER! Top spot all thanks to a decision that will mystify me everything he does it.

For me at the moment this Arsenal team picks itself. No idea why Santi is constantly dragged off and our star man, Ozil plays another 90 needlessly let alone Giroud who was out on his feet!

For me.

Shezza
Bac mert Kos Gibbs
Flamini Ramsey
Santi Ozil Jack
Giroud

Walcott and Rosicky on for Ozil, Jack, Santi or Giroud!

Wenger the boys are doing great but get a grip!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yeah I agree totally. Have no idea what the whole Flam/arteta partnership idea was about. Was never going to work, absolutely no pace to hit Napoli on the break. It was a foolish decision

Agree0 Disagree0

Arsenal always play poorley when they try and set up to be tight to close games out. We need to just play are naturel attacking way. Arteta and Flaminin together does not work and we should have utilsed more pacey players last night to captilse more on the counter knowing Napoli had to push up

well that was a crock of rubbish! this is the third game we have not won due to bad tactics! (Manu, Everton) we set up not to lose which is not our way, we can defend now we ve shown that so let the team play! I guarentee you this we will be playing Madrid next! well done lads!

Been saying Arteta is too slow and a liability all year

Well thanks Mikel

2nd place in group, could have been out if they pushed last 10 min of match when they let up

Now we have our choice of Madrid, Barca, Atletico, Bayern and PSG

Essentially the 5 form teams in Europe

Well done Mikel, and well done Arsene for sending them out there to draw

Believable0 Unbelievable0

USG, that's pretty much the post I would have wrote, thanks mate.

Arteta needs to be replaced within the next year or so. Love the guy but the games passing him buy. Barkley skipped by him too easily to set up the Everton goal at the weekend. Flamini has been a monster since he came back but he's a short term fix. We need a young, top quality DM(Bender?) and a CM to replace Arteta(Gundogan?).

There's no denying the squad still does need some work, I've maintained that all along. We have a quality core but just need to add 3/4 top quality players into the mix and we'll compete on all fronts! In my opinion the areas that need work are striker, wide left, defensive/centre midfield and right back. Jenkinson doesn't cut it for me just now. Thought he was coming along well not so long ago but he could be doing with a loan to a mid table club to get regular games!

But with Szcz, Sagna, Kos, Per, Verm, Gibbs, Ramsey, Wilshere, Ozil, Cazorla, Podolski, Walcott, Giroud we have a top class core to the team, it just needs that extra few players and tonight highlighted that!

Agree0 Disagree0

You would be p**sed if he had played Rambo in every game and got injured though.

FS. Second in the group. Going to have to face one of the big boys now but I suppose if we want to go far then we'll have to at one point or another.

it takes the piss that we lost top spot on goal difference.
3 teams on 12 points each. when you look at a couple of the other teams that made it though, or even topped their groups you have to wonder.

that said.

We were crap today.

must get a reaction on the weekend!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I know what you are saying Bacon but how do you think Napoli are feeling? 12 points and knocked out.

I know its a tuff game and all, but Jenkinson is poor. he can't get one decent cross in the box.

Here's a question for all you Arsenal watchers. Why does the captain's sleeve choice not apply to Szcznesy?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I can't say for sure but I would say its because a keeper lands and rolls on the floor so long arms give the keeper added protection from elbow injuries, hence the padding on the long sleeves.
that's also why Ashley young always wears long sleeves boom boom

Mate is a Manchester United fan & went to the game last night, this is the text I sent him: Be careful if u r driving past Old Trashford tonight, a lot of people have picked up 3 points there recently. Followed by : Hi m8, not sure if you can help but I urgently need 2 know how to cancel bids on eBay? I put in a bid 4 a Mickey Mouse outfit & am 15 minutes away from owning Manchester Utd. :-)

I would like to predict the score of tonights game ladies and gents but in this current climate of match-fixing and corruption I think its the wrong thing to do.

By the way we win 2-1 Giroud and Cazorla.(OOPPSS)

Hi guys. Tough games coming up. I won't make any predictions because I think the players read this blog first, and then go into the match trying to prove me wrong lool. Bust seriously, I do not see why we should not be able to win all 3 games. I do not consider us underdogs at all. If we could beat Dortmund and Bayern (which are far superior teams) in their own backyards (although they returned the favours), why should we not be able to beat inconsistent City and Chelsea. Come on boys, you can do it. The odds of us winning all of our next 3 games might be slim, but that's just it, they are just odds. Football will be played on the pitch. Just hope we don't have injuries tonight. Gooooo Gunners!

Knockout match tomorrow, because that's how they will approach it

And they are a world class team w a world class manager who had made a name for himself winning matches like this

I think tomorrow is a real test.

Score a goal early and give them a mountain to climb

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Who are we playing tomorrow? It would seem to be a terrible case of fixture planning/congestion to have a match on the 12th as well as the 11th.

Agree0 Disagree0

Nah mate we are not playing anybody on the 12th

Ed, what's the latest news on gundogan I know he hasn't featured much this season due to injury, I also know he is yet to sign a new contract.
is there any chance he will move in jan?
a lot of rumours recently saying Dortmund are willing to sell at around 25mil.
if he does become available could you see arsenal going for him? I remember you saying arsenal are looking at a CM.
Thanks

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed027's Note - I think Madrid are the favourites

Would say a jan move to Madrid even would be likely then? Thanks
