Use our rumours form to send us arsenal transfer rumours.

11 Feb 2014 23:09:19
I haven't posted for quite a while, but have been keeping a watching brief on here. Just a couple thoughts.

1. We are a different team with Ramsey, not rocket science.

2. We are a different team when Arteta plays and not Flamini. In a different way to point 1.

3. Ozil's drop in form coincides with Ramsey not playing, they really do have a great understanding. Ramsey does the running for the Puppet Master pulling the strings.

4. Giroud looks knackered.

5. Wilshere is not match fit, and is being relied on too much.

6. Gibbs needs to start ahead of Monreal. (injury issues?)

7. Sagna, whilst dependable defensively, needs to push forward more into crossing situations inviting Giroud into scoring opportunities.

8. The whole team has looked lethargic for 3 games now, so the Liverpool result was coming.

9. The League is very much on, and Hansen, Redknapp, Shearer, Lawrenson et al do not rule our destiny.

None of the above is anything but obvious.

I do feel the best thing that can happen for us this season is to get Ramsey back to his best and in the team. He has an influence in many departments; goals, interplay with Ozil, pressures opposition, covers defensive issues (tracks back), grit etc. How far away is he?

So Chelsea drop points!

We can now go top again!

But wanted to talk about Mourinho, do people think he's just protecting himself by saying Chelsea aren't contenders?

If they do win the title, he will take the plaudits. If not "I told you we aren't ready yet." Win win for him.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Mourinho is playing games and getting headline for mourinho.he wants to be bigger than the team not protect them.
Mind games master and the city boss is we'll and truly had his mind scrambled by him.
My advice to Wenger, if you don't get in the ring he can only shadow box with himself

The man is an arrogant arse, the sooner people stop listening to the utter drivel that comes out of his mouth the better. He is not a nice human being and is very lucky to be allowed to manage anywhere in the world after his thuggish and eye opening assault on Villenova when managing in Spain. Unproven as a manager of a club unless it has more financial clout than the rest. He is looking and sounding like the same Mourinho who was sacked by Chelsea for not winning silverware and playing boring percentage football. I believe him to be a bounder and a cad!

Agree0 Disagree0

He's protecting himself and his players, but nobody's fooling for it.
Flybo

Agree0 Disagree0

Davros I think u need to get your facts right! Chelsea didn't sack him for not winning silverware they parted by mutual consent

Agree0 Disagree0

Mourinho recently said that Manchester United are capable of getting top 4, just before arsenal play them, to pump them up to make them believe in 4th and come and beat us.

i don't think any position is guaranteed right now.

the league is no walk over, any team can beat any team.

man city were walking on air for a moment and now they have crashed down to where chelsea and we are.

its difficult to play the relegation teams at this time of the year and we have to play them with urgency.

we play united at home then liverpool, then bayern, then sunderland. 4 home games. before we go to munich and face the spurs. we need to make these games count. shift up a gear.

No-one wants to win this title by the looks of it.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Relegation teams. not the kind of teams anyone wants to face now.

desperation can lead to unknown results

Boom

Get the points tomorrow and back to the top

Win one, lose one, maintain top spot. That's a good deal to me.

I will take it.

Now onto the team I hate the most in the league.

Destroy. Destroy them badly. I hate United. I hope all of Europe is laughing at them in 24hrs

And Robin. Eat rubbish you little runt

Believable0 Unbelievable0

US, I often get the the r and c muddled on the keyboard as well!

Agree0 Disagree0

Last thing we need is for them to come here and have a big game. we need to win at all costs. no more slip ups.

Agree0 Disagree0

So the faulty keyboard thing is universal eh?

Cheers

My keyboard is fine. but the eds just turn all the words which are in the dictionary ********* you see what I mean.

West brom have done us a bit of a favour there.
We can go back top tomorrow. we have no excuses not to.
lets get a result against utd and carry the confidence in to the weekend.

When Utd were winnign titles they'd always come back from a big defeat to a big win in their next game. that's exactly what we've got to do tomorrow.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

11 Feb 2014 21:59:31
Hold on a second.

You mean to say that if we win our game in hand, we got top of the league AGAIN by a point?

So, even though people were phoning Samaritans and crying for Wenger out, we could actually be ok?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I don't know if it's the modern world, simple people being manipulated by the crap they read, or we have the most boneheaded, two faced, chromosome deficient, thunder-c*nt "Fans" the world has ever known. But yes, it seems that if we are not going to hold on to top spot for the entire season, win every game, or spend 40m or more every transfer window, the manager should be sacked, Ozil should have his balls removed, and 100 virgins should be drown in goat blood as a sacrifice to the footballing gods.

so utd tomorrow.

against fulham they brought on adnan and hernandez later on, they were already playing rooney, mata, judas. basically lots of speed there, something that outdid us against liverpool.

now this season we have been good defensively, I guess the squad is pretty tired and we did have one of those days. but I reckon vermaelen should start in front of mertesacker tomorrow. especially as we have arteta playing dm role.

with flamini back against liverpool and bayern we could go back to kos and mert

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The reason we lost the last game is we didn't have merts

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Feb 2014 22:33:12
As much as I agree in principle. Big mert guides the team a lot better, and we always go to pot against good opponents. Play deep and tell arteta he can't cross the halfway line. Give the lads an opportunity to counter attack their slow defence.

Much has been made of our striker situation - is Giroud good enough, is Bendtner a good enough backup etc.

What I am thinking about is what type of striker we go for in the summer - what calibre. We all know, I think, that Bendtner will be moving on (thank God), and so we will need to bring in a new frontman.

Our dilemma is whether to bring in a second fiddle to Giroud, like Demba Ba or Berbatov, or splash out on a Cavani or Suarez.

Just to throw my two cents in, I don't think Giroud is good enough and we should aim high in the summer window. He's not quick enough - and, more importantly, he doesn't compensate for his slowness with great finishing.

I really like the guy, but honestly, given our ambitions, I think he should be our second striker.

Keep Giroud and we will stay at a similar level next season and Ozil will continue to struggle. Spend upwards of 40m on a striker, and we've got a real chance to beat the oil merchants to trophies.

COYG

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I always compare our players to the top teams, say Chelsea & Man City. Would Giroud be good enough for them?

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Giroud can doa job for us, but to get the best out of Ozil we need someone who runs beyond the defence, Remy wouldn't be an expensive option. Aubamyang would be decent punt too.

Agree0 Disagree0

He might get into the Chelsea team, but that's not saying much given the dross Mourinho puts out to lead the line each week.

City? Wouldn't even be benching.

Agree0 Disagree0

Giroud has some amazing first time finishes of real quality this year and also contributed a lot to build up play. The two problems he has is that 1) he's nackered 2) he often is tricky enough on the ball to create much when good teams stifle us and slow the game down.

another striker who is athletic and has quick feet would provide the team with the perfect option. Perhaps teams will finally be unsure of which attacking option wenger would go for as this would also make us better on the counter just like when we had pace of pires and TH14.

Agree0 Disagree0

Please guys stop beating yourselves up with thoughts about Suarez. Liverpool will never sell Suarez to Arsenal!

Even Arsene understands that now.

Try to get Rooney as he will be looking for a new club soon if Manchester United continue to struggle. Mind you his wages will be eye watering.

Better still put in a bid for RVP as he could do a job for a season or two.

Agree0 Disagree0

Tommy, I would be worried madrid or psg maybe coming for him.

i noticed how our defenders were tuned in to double suarez while sterling and sturridge ran riot. if you guys do lose him this summer, I can only see a step back for a team doing well.

Even though this doesn't apply to Mr D's example he gave in a post further down, it did get me thinking about Özil. I looked up his 5 goals he's scored for us, and all of them involved him continuing his runs into the box. From his exquisit side foot finish just inside the box against Napoli. To his two yard tap in against Everton.

The game in which he scored two against Norwich involved the first being a 50 yard sprint (fastest I've seen him run) into the box, and getting a glancing head on it. The second was a headed knock down from Ramsey, with a six yard side foot needed to finish off the move.

So I think I would like to see Mesut make more runs into the box, as this is something he hasn't done as much in recent games. Also it might not be a bad idea if he took the Cazorla route every now and then. By that I mean have a crack. If you don't buy a ticket and all that.

Lastly watching Özil's highlights (always helps if you don't have much of a life) there is no question he is world class. Unfortunately he's just a world class player out of form.

Also what doesn't help him while he's out of form is a statue has more facial expressions then Mesut. I think they'd might be a bit more leeway with him if when he loses the ball he looked like a mad man on meth. Or even worse, Keown. Or maybe that's just me.

There was also something quite obvious blaring out at me while I was watching Özil highlights in the early part of the season when we were playing really good football. His passing, interaction, assists and goals heavily involved a certain Aaron Ramsey. I forgot just what an impact he had on us before his injury.
Story of the last god knows how many years. Just a few thougts

Just for a bit of fun. Imagine a midfield of Lars bender, Ramsey and Wilshere. Walcott and ozil on the wings. With cavani up front. Imagine a bench of giroud, draxler, carzola, flamini, chamberlain, vermalean and a gk. With Podolski gnabry, arteta, monreal, jenkinson all as back up. Frightening. We can all dream eh?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

With the Arsenal I can just see the likes of Draxler, Bender, Wilshere and Cavani getting to know one another on the medical table.

Ozil should always play the no.10 role. If that means wilshere can't play, then so be it. can't force it

Liverpool fan here.

Good luck against Man Utd. You migth be a little nervous given that you are not in the best of form right now and you are missing a few of your top players but you really should have enough at the Emirates to see off Man Utd.

They are just an ordinary side at the moment Shakey ar the back and weak in midfield.

Forget the name Manchester United and just play what is in front of you; a mid table side lacking in confidence and direction.

They are there for the taking. Just do not let them make it a war. Outplay them with high tempo passing.

Lets hope for our two sides to finsish top four and may the best side win it.

If Liverpool cannot finsish above Citeh and Chelski then I would like Arsenal to do the job.

If u need any help in removing ure lips from arsenals backside let me no tommy :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

Ah CTR. 7th place eh. not in awe of our 4th place trophy yet?

Agree0 Disagree0

Unlike arsenal fans laker I wouldn't consider 4th place a successful season mate, am I in awe? Of what? What have arsenal achieved this season that's different from the last 9?

Granted this season has been disappointing, guess I will just have to console myself with our 3 league titles in the last 4 years hey?

Ill have a lil bet with u laker, I bet united win another title before arsenal, confident?

MASSIVE game for u lot tomorrow now wouldn't u say? Care for a prediction? Are u anymore confident than the rest on here who seem to feel a loss maybe beckoning?
Arsene better tighten those wheels for the next 2 months they look wobbly to me :-)

11 Feb 2014 18:15:38
Well well, back to your supercilious best I see CTR, and so surprising to see you back on here when you once again think you may have something to chirp about.

Last time I checked your wagon Eto'o had knocked all the wheels off and Darren Bent had smashed all the windows in.

I would bet Arsenal us and City will be sharing numerous trophies between us before you see another one up at the Council House.

Thanks again for the £37 million, how is that working out? Oh doesn't mata forget it.

Agree0 Disagree0

Twitter jokes now Marcellus lol classy, please let me no when u come up with anything original because ill book my slot in at the hospital.

Not seen u on the united page since ure 'lovely' post during our Munich remeberances,
Class is something u obviously still need to learn, shame a few people like u bring down chelsa fc's name.

Now on u pop little un.

Nice to see a wide spread of fans admiring the arsenal these days. Continuing the bad twitter jokes we all know it's only a mata of time before Juan of the united players has had enough and joins the gunners

Ill take your bet CTR. its going to be awhile for you guys. a long long while.

Hi Ed. i'm sure you're tired of rumours regarding Draxler but would like clarification on a few things. Are you aware of who else put in a bid for him in January? How high up on Arsenal's priority list is he? Interested to see how willing Arsenal are to enter a bidding war

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed013's Note - Bayern showed interest, Mr Wenger see's him as a very high priority target}

11 Feb 2014 12:49:17
this just in. (seems to be a trend)

arteta makes a beautiful block, wilshere picks up ozil who lobs it towards giroud, giroud with his back towards the goal, controls the ball and passes it to?

and that is pretty much our problem right now. who is running into the box.

ramsey walcott injured, poldi and rosicky bench warming, wilshere playing deep and cazorla doesn't get in the box enough, he usually shoot from just outside the box. and ozil just lobbed it to giroud so he's not going to be available for the return either. leaving Ox but he isn't making the runs either.

all well and good having giroud in the team but just like ozil he needs someone he can pass the ball to with his back against the goal. he isn't going to turn like judas and score.

poldi should play tomorrow. with rosicky on the right. only one of ozil and cazorla should start.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

From your lips to God or AW's ears whichever one has more influence.

While we are at it wouldn't mind seeing Gibbs in there.

Nice post!

Agree0 Disagree0

Ox's goals have been from him pushing up through the middle to the edge of the box. his preferred position, apparently, but has ozil and cazorla (and super tom in wengers eyes) infront of him there

@Lakerville,
now any of the regulars on here know I'm not 1 to comment on too many posts or criticise certain statements. However, as regards to our "atrocious away form". Liverpool have played all of the teams in the top 10 away bar Utd and Southampton. Our perfomances against the top 3 merited 1 definite defeat against yourselves yet we lost 3 of them, 2 back to back.
I'm not going to criticise ref decisions etc but purely on performances. Arsenal still have to play away to Spurs, Chelsea, and Everton. The 3 of them come straight after an away match at Bayern and sandwiched in between the last 2 is the visit of Man City to the Emirates. Trips away to Stoke and Hull are no gimmes for you either given their current form.
On paper I would certainly fancy our run in as opposed to yours.
Our form has certainly improved and I think that with confidence so high will only get better away from home. Another thing in our favour imho is the way the fixtures are spread also. Practically 1 home, 1 away until the end of the season. Feel free to reply and good luck against Man U tomorrow,
Si.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Its not the good runs mate. its the bad ones that matter. imagine city and chelsea coming there and winning both, what does that do?

the team we had against you guys was a team crystal palace would beat. but it was the day to be beat by a pacey team. does not mean you will beat the other teams.

nothing is a given. but just like everyone else is writing us off for the title, I feel liverpool also lack the depth or tenacity to win the title.

3 points from spurs. 10 points from united. 2-3 games can sway things a different way. its not over till its over.

Agree0 Disagree0

Take note lol, we're only 5 behind you guys too and spurs are only 8 if that's your logic and like you said its not over till it's over.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Feb 2014 09:33:27
A win against United, would virtually rule out a top for finish for them and get us back firmly on track. Once this match is out of the way we will have Flamini back and hopefully Ramsey will come back at the end of March. let's get behind the team and Arsene Wenger tomorrow and drive them on.
Fortunately the Premiership is still in our hands mathematically, if we were to win all our remaining matches then we finish top!

11 Feb 2014 08:42:24
Ok this just in. naaah i'm joking, jeeze, calm down,

Firstly, AW is still the right man for the job, the way we do things at Arsenal is still the right way, the Arsenal way.

However, the facts are the facts, Ollie G is not good enough, I love his passion and desire, 90% of the time he gives everything. I don't like that silly shaky hand thingy he does when he stubs his toe or get kneed in the quiff.

Ozil first season, transition, and he needs a striker with better pace and movement, Ollie is not that man. Break the bank, buy someone really special.

The midfield lacks balls, or needs bigger balls, not the puny ones they have at the moment, someone along the lines of Yaya, who is basically Pat Vieira reincarnate.

Arteta, sorry to say this, needs too much time on the ball, gets caught too often, I hope he picks his game up,
however, I think his legs have gone.

Monreal
Pretty certain he often has a little siesta whilst playing. Have we won or lost more with him in the side?

Jack Wheelchair, I was a midfielder in my playing days, if I played against another midfielder who fell over all the time, I'd love it, because I'd know I could upset him, if I upset him, I upset his game, If I upset his game, I weaken the other team. Never give the opposition anything, never let them know your hurting, So Jack, whilst I love you in the side, grow up, become a man of steel, instead of one made of fairies and unicorns.

A previous poster made a very salient point, we are now competing with the top boys, the mega rich sides, that's pretty damn good isn't it.
I guarantee if we can see the frailties in the side, AW et al can as well, and sadly so can all the other Prem' managers.

Tomorrows game,
We will win, we will win good as well, at least a couple of clear goals, the cracks will still be there though.
Can we win the league, Man City are so strong, and have the best side, Chelsea have the "Gobby one" anything is possible.
I predict we will end up top 3, of course if we do win it I will be as happy as the next gooner and AW will have really over delivered again.

I think it is safe to say we did make a bid for Saurez in the summer that failed miserably.

It was also reported we bid £18 million for Lars Bender in the summer but they wanted £23 million.

In January Arsene denied any interest in Julian Draxler but comments attributed to their, I think Sports director and chairman indicated we may have made an unsuccessful bid.

Those 3 in place of Bentdner, Coquelin and Park in our squad would have made us immense.

Obviously none of that happened but we still sit a point away from Chelsea and in the race.

Which means we are far from poor and the biggest thing is we are here whilst missing two of our most important players, Ramsey and Walcott.

I'm not comparing in terms of personal ability but in terms of what they bring to their respective teams or to the degree they would miss them it has to be like City being without Aguero and Toure or Chelsea without Hazard and Willian.

It is a big loss for us as they would be for them, so to see us where we are can only be a plus.

I wouldn't say we are out of the race, physio room has Ramsey back on 1st March, we need to stay solid until then.

A win on Wednesday will be huge.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Totally agree Jenny if Hazard or Yaya were to be ruled out as Aaron has they wouldn't be in such a good position as we are.
Tomorrow night is crucial, beat utd and everyone is lifted to new hights but I fear for our season if we get beat by them again.
But come what may we will all still be gooners its only the expression on our faces that's up for grabs not our loyalty

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree we are certainly not a poor team but are we punching above our weight. I think we are. The problem is if Wenger didn't undervalue the transfer targets, we would have a much stronger, deeper squad. The 3 players you mentioned, Saurez bender and draxler, if it cost us an extra 30mill (for example) to acquire all 3 knowing we had a massive influx of commercial money coming our way, it would have been well worth paying up to give us a far better competitive chance.
