if we want to sign any players especially strikers we must do it before Manchester United sell rvp or hernandez, as they will trump us to any signing with the wages they can offer

No guarantee of CL though Lakerville. That has stumpted us in the past.

Not having champions league did not stop them getting falcao and di maria. I think we are restricted as our finances without champions league take a hit while Manchester United do just fine fine.

Ed025,

Seeing as you are floating around.

What do you expect/hope Martinez does during transfer window?.

Not a fan Ed? :-)

{Ed025's Note - no mate hes a fraud, talks a good game though..

I read the other day Ibrahimovic joins only a team guaranteed to win the league. But I think it's rather Zlatan guarantees the league title. I'd be over the moon if we signed him, Cech and Schneiderlin. I don't expect us to sign Zlatan, but he's one of the best strikers in the world still despite his age. There doesn't seem to be many options in the market. Martinez and Higuain aren't good enough in my opinion so if the club can't sign the striker they want, why not try Theo through the middle and see if there's a good wide player available?

Believable3 Unbelievable1

{Ed025's Note - I like theo iceman...but bulls arses and banjo,s come to mind mate..

11 Jun 2015 22:33:03
Harsh Ed, harsh.

A fully fit Theo can be a game changer.

Whereas, Cleverley is a channel changer because if I saw him on MOTD I would switch over, lol.

Only joking mate.

But seriously, Theo is still a top boy, once fully fit of course, but I still don't know if I would play him through the middle as our main striker.

Agree2 Disagree1

{Ed025's Note - i dont like all that lark dags, theo is a winger leave him there, and dont play ospina as a centre half either..henry was one off..

11 Jun 2015 23:10:03
Totally agree Ed,

Have always said Theo is a top winger.

He can probably do a decent job in the middle, but only if needed.

Rest assured if a swap deal every happened for Sterling, Walcott would make a fabulous defensive midfielder for us. :(

Nah Tj,
He can play centre half alongside Balo lol.

Schneiderlin every day for me, but its a dilemma because whoever we sign would hamper the progress of Coq.

Usual rumours flying about regarding forwards, defensive midfielders and keepers of course.

I feel that injury free we have a very good squad but suffer if 1 or 2 key players get injured. If AW decided to buy just one player [ a world class one] which position do you think we would benefit from buying most?

I do think we need someone like Higuaine but other than that i'm not sure who else we need.

Your thoughts?

11 Jun 2015 20:18:52
Petr Cech, Theo might be the answer up top time will tell but Ospina and Szczesney are not the Answer in goal.
Our main competition for the title all have a really top keepers so we will head into the new season with a disadvantage before it even kicks off if we don't do what we can to address the issue.

Agree1 Disagree0

11 Jun 2015 22:10:33
I still don't think Ospina has put a foot wrong this season.

Not saying Cech is not an upgrade, but I wouldn't be too unhappy if Ospina is our No.1 and Sczezny No.2.

Agree1 Disagree0

11 Jun 2015 22:32:58
our main oposition also have top class forwards g62, so its a question of which would win/lose us the most points giroud/walcott vs costa/aguero/rooney+who ever else utd might sign. ospina/szcesney vs courtois/hart/de gea or fingers crossed anyone else
i really like walcott and wish he had more of a chance up front before, youve said before he lacks the defencive side on the wing so is dodge there but tbf quite a few winger also lack that but its still not great playing him there. i still don't know how much wenger would trust him up front though it has only been the last couple of games he has given him a go and he was struggling in the final until he was switched with sanchez, he wasnt able to hold up the ball like giroud so was looking isolated. one with the other on the bench is definitely good though, because the opposition defence will have to completely change if the other comes on. but neither is really able to score out of nothing if the opposition is hard to break down and i think that's important to win the league

seeing that jackson martinez is heading to Milan, do we have any other targets for striker?

Search function "ed002" and have a read mate, he's pretty much covered targets for each position and each players status.

You may encounter the abbreviation "RTFP" sporadically along the way.

Ed002: "W/F: Dybala has been of sustained interest but he will not be moving to Arsenal. Arsenal will possibly turn to Jackson Martinez, Aleksandar Mitrović, Rodrigo or possibly Gonzalo Higuain as they cannot bring in their first choice.

Gameiro has been looked at and might provide a fallback position but there is interest from Marseille and Liverpool. Another alternative is Hoffenheim's Firmino, but Manchester City are already in talks. Kishna (I understand his agent wants him to move to Juventus) is probably no longer a consideration, and Lacazette is almost certainly not going to happen. Two other players the club were interested in - Bakkali and Andre Ayew - are very unlikely. Arsenal's interest in Pedro remains. Whilst there is still possible interest in Reus, a move does not seem viable this summer.

Eintracht Braunschweig failed to make Bayer Leverkusen's Karim Bellarabi's loan permanent in the summer amidst interest from both Hamburg and Hoffenheim. Interest from Stuttgart seems to have gone although Arsenal, Chelsea and West Ham have had the player scouted this season - Chelsea has another solution in mind now. However, any move this summer is unlikely as he has signed a new long-term contract with Leverkusen.

Douglas Costa appears to be heading elsewhere and I suspect Arsenal have dropped their interest in him. Malcom and Tielmans have been looked at but there appears to be no interest. "Apparently" (an agent's "apparently"), Manchester United and Arsenal remain interested in Mandukic. I very much doubt it.}"

I know I shouldn't encourage his laziness, but I wanted to re-read that post anyway.

Im not sure what seems to be the news on Jackson Martinez, but if the fee of 35 mill euros and the fact he is joining us is true, i would not be happy at all.

he is 29 years old, probably has a year or 2 at best and has not exactly blown teams away or caused a transfer market meltdown for his services.

this would be an act of desperation from Arsenal.

while i don't rate higuain any better, he may be the best option in this market.

wants to play champions league and we can afford his wages.

while i do think benzema is a better overall player i don't see him as attainable. Possibly Manchester United for him

Believable1 Unbelievable0

11 Jun 2015 11:08:07
Couldn't have put it better myself.

Benzema would be an excellent addition but the outlay that is being spoken about for Jackson Martinez just doenst sound like Wenger at all.

11 Jun 2015 12:37:21
100% laker not for that coin same goes for higuian aswell. If we're going to spend that Coin then he has to be 25 years old and as good

11 Jun 2015 14:04:44
Not that anyone should be surprised, but I suspect this story may be a complete lie, made up by some lazy journo? I know we have more money now, but if I was a journo looking to make up a complete fabrication, I would at least run something more feasible, perhaps by linking us with a striker nearer 20 than 30, which is far more in line with Arsene's historical transfer business compared to blowing £30 mil on a 29 year old......

Hence, my call for Charlie Austin :-)

Agree0 Disagree1

11 Jun 2015 16:49:59
Wouldn't be my first choice dags...but would certainly be no worse than spending more than double (even treble?) on a player who, with no disrespect to the Portuguese league(ok perhaps with a fair chunk of disrespect), is playing in an inferior league, and yet still has not set the world on fire. It seems to me that some people think these overseas based players are good based purely on the amount of times their name gets mentioned in the press, rather than on actually seeing them play at a top level week in week out. Whereas Austin is on full show every week, both good and bad, but at least he has shown he can cut it in the premier league.

I think Firmino would be a great addition, he has been tearing it up for Brazil. But seems M City have an edge.

11 Jun 2015 18:12:39
I agree there are no attainable world class strikers in the market at the moment, i would opt that we get a young promising striker instead. Since no one here thinks Giroud is world class if we get a young striker and give him a chance if he preforms better than Giroud we have ourselves a top striker :)

Yeah portuguse leauge isn't up to much Epping but as far as setting the leauge a light he ripped it in Portugal mate banging them in for fun for the past 3 seasons. But the first point is the overriding factor portuguse leauge is full of teams like Leeds United

Rosicky could be off because he wants to play regularly, can't say as I blame him he's a brilliant little player but at the wrong age to be realistically sitting on our bench if he's lucky.
Some players are happy to turn up train and top up their pension fund with no realistic chance a meaningful game time but if that's not enough for Rosicky respect to him for it.

I think Wenger gave him a 12 month contract so we can sell him and not lose him on a Bosman.

Clever piece of business.

Any truth to the Marchisio rumours being thrown around over the last day or two?

What do you think the chances are of him making a move to arsenal or the PL?
