Diego Costa.

Good striker but total apple pie.

Can he get retrospective punishment for his actions? because the unprovoked push was surely a second yellow card offence and that would have shown him red if the ref had seen it

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - he can if the ref says he hadn't seen it and UEFA decide to investigate. I doubt he will though as it was not a straight red, so not worth them setting up an investigation.}

11 Mar 2015 23:03:32
I know its not good for the English game and unpatriotic but I am very pleased chavs are out.
Mourinho behavior full stop and what happened on the Paris tube 2 weeks ago I think its one up to the good guy team

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - look at the other side G62, no english side qualifying might put the 4th place in jeopardy mate, you know as well as i do that uefa would love to take a place off our league..

11 Mar 2015 23:25:45
I see that side Ed and understand why many would disagree with me which is why I mentioned being unpatriotic mate, but with mourinho treating other managers with so much disrespect and much worse that has happened away from the game its self I can't help but feel its a good day for decency.
But I do appreciate its biting your nose off to spite your armpit to some extent

Hi guys, Chelsea fan in peace :)
So we're out in a disappointing way. PSG deservedly through, we were simply bad.
Now I hope you guys can turn the tie around because we need an English club to make a deep run. The onus falls on your club, I hope they can do it.
Cheers guys, and good luck for the rest of the season.

absolutely disgusting to see the chelsea players harp the ref for the red card. it was a plan, because if it was in regards to oscars safety you rush to the player first not the ref. Karma is a well you know.

i wanted chelsea to show they can play with the players of quality they have with hazard and costa and willian and cuadrado and cesc and oscar, rather what i saw and the world saw was a 22 year old italian called verrati who i will say is the best midfield player in the world. the composure and skill and the tenacity to do what he did after they went to 10 men. this PSG team is a player away from being a champions league force.

when i compare them to arsenal its a far cry. too many levels below at the moment. we need to do something in Monaco, but looks like that shit league 1 as they call it is proving the EPL is no good. Bundesliga, la liga now ligue 1...we really are brainwashed into thinking we have the best players.

I thought I would throw out a question to all the poster, and the EDs.

I have been thinking about the implications of the new TV deal for the Premier League.

In my view, I think that 2017/2018 will see a huge migration of the World's best players moving to the Premier League, following the money as such.

If I was a Player Agent, as soon as I saw the circa 60% increase in price for the new TV Rights, I would be telling my player that the Premier League is where the future lies.

The money could potentially mean that at least the top 6 to 8 teams in the Premier LEague (dependent on how the money is split provided) will have a buying power equivalent to the high percentage of allocated funding that teams such as Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Barcelona have had for a long period.

Added to that the ability for owners to right off large amounts of debt due to FFP (if enforced correctly) could create a potential shift in power, or at least financial power.

Being in business, and being a Director, I understand the absolutely complexity that may well exist with regards to apportioning of the revenue across the Premier League but from a simplistic point, without greater knowledge of the underlying detailed information, there is the potential for the to happen?

I would love to know what other peoples thoughts are.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - People will not be able to "right" off large amounts of debt. The clubs are run as businesses and they won't be going on vast shopping sprees for players - it would be enormously disruptive to the team if nothing else. A number of teams are still actively discussing the breakaway pan-European league - and discussions are due between the clubs again at the end of next week. Furthermore, there is a push from elsewhere to cap media income in terms of FFP in the same way as commercial income will be capped. I think you have rather misunderstood a lot of the finances and FFP.}

11 Mar 2015 10:13:59
I probably have misunderstood which is why the question in the first place.

Sorry, should have been "write" rather than "right". The problem with typing quickly at work.

The statement with regards to the breakaway Pan European League is an interesting one. Considering how often this has been discussed is this something that actually come to fruition?

You can see the validity in capping media income with the rate of escalation shown by the change between the previous commercial TV rights value and the new one.

I think my question was more would the Premier League be seen as the ultimate stage (as a single league) and therefore become more attractive to those players who see Real Madrid, Barcelona et al at the summit of European football teams, or will they still be seen as "The place to be".

Apologies if I didn't make myself clear. I am someone who tends to ask questions as I love to learn in areas that I don't know about. Keeps someone of my age young through learning and a level of knowledge acquisition from others more knowledgeable.

J

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I am not worried about the typo - we all do such things. There is no doubt that the pan-European league will happen - what we don't know is when. The push for 2017 or 2018 by two clubs has gone. The general feeling is that 2023 might be a sensible option once the 2022 world cup is out of the way. It is not on the agenda for next week. There has already been one discussion about capping media income and the clubs would like to take a formal position and value to UEFA. On the downside of that, history tells us that the clubs have been unable to reach agreement over capping commercial income even though it has been discussed for more than two years.

Players are already attracted to your English Pounds as English clubs generally pay very well compared to most other clubs/countries. However, FFP does protect against significant increases in club's spending on wages.

The clubs need to be run as businesses and need to be profitable for their owners.}

its more about TV money than the travelling fan. every home stadium will be packed with the home fans and the days of the away fans will come to an end, unless we all get paid, 10k per week as a basic. i think with rate of inflation minimum wage to hit £250 an hour is about 168 years away, taking into account, 18 periods of economic boom, and that's if the manufacturing and exploration sector are still thriving.

Ed001,
Re: Your earlier post.

Just my opinion.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

The layout is perfect.
I know it can get negative on here, but the 'banter' page typifies the rollercoaster ride of being a football fan, especially supporting Arsenal.

I love the fact that when you come on the banter page, you don't know what type of post you will find.

It could be positive, it could be negative, but that's what makes it such a brilliant site.

Sure, I'm pro-Wenger and a bit of a joker, and G62 is daft as a brush, and 337 is funny and Steve moans like tart (lol Steve) etc etc etc.

There are a lot of characters on here, some share the same opinions, some offer a very different view, but it all comes together very well.

I think if you 'pigeon hole' the posts and keep banter page light hearted and put the 'moany posts into 'other posts' it will take away a lot of the magic from this site.

I can only speak personally, but I don't use 'other posts' too much, but that's just me and certainly not a broadsheet opinion of what other people do.

I appreciate it can get a bit venomous on here.
Myself and G62, as well as some others, have pointed out to other posters in the past, not to be so offensive to others, and to respect their views/opinions/posts, without the need of getting nasty to other people on here.

But, I think when you get a lot of posters, with a lot of different views, it will sometimes get a bit 'nasty', that I think, is part and parcel of this site.

So, just my opinion Ed, its brilliant the way it is.

I haven't posted in a long time either, but that has more to do with the time difference of being an exiled gooner, GMT+7 means all the good puns and jokes are gone by the time I wake up. And by good I mean bloody awful Dags - we know what Benny Hill's writer does now Benny passed on lol!

Keep it the way it is Ed. The negativity when the team peforms badly is natural. It's just like facing the day after a loss at work - some of us just kind of hide from it for a couple of days and keep our heads down, but others need to vent or try and "fix it right now" by talking it out about what needs to be done. i love all of it, even when I don't if you know what I mean. Read it every day. All the banter good and bad reminds me of being back home.

I went out and punched a Rocky Mountain in joy when Oliver blew the final whistle on Monday. I can remember 1999 like it was yeserday, that finally exorcized that ghost for me.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - The negative posts will go to the Other page so you can go there and get off to them still.}

Good post that Dags. I find this site brilliant as it is and it needs the negativity as much as it needs to have the positivity and harmony. If only people remembered that we are all fellow gooners and any disagreements are merely banter, so comments shouldn't get personal or 'sneipey' in any way (except comments insinuating Dags dresses in his wifes clothes).

If we lose the verity I think we lose the magic and let's face it how boring would this site be if we were all stepford fans saying the same things, the disagree button would become totally redundant.
Abusive posters should receive a yellow then a bye bye your banned red because there's never a good reason to deliberately offend someone, well perhaps Derby, and Dags and obviously Steve's OK to offerend at will but that's it, accept for Banbury and 714 and

So we got to the bottom of Ramsey's hamstring woes but Arsene wouldn't say what the problem was which I found weird. Since then we have suffered 2 more hamstring injuries to Gabriel and Oxly. I have wondered for a few years now if our pitch may be to blame. Yes it's like a snooker table and suits our passing style but it's very firm and maybe takes its toll on our players over the years. I appreciate Gabriel's injury is probably due to climate and training changes but what about all the others? I don't think we can put it down to bad luck. I also think our style may be to blame. We stop and start, twist and turn more than any other team. We also predominantly try and stay on our feet instead of having a dive which again puts stress on the joints and muscles. I am obviously clutching at straws but it seems our coaching staff are too. Anyone got any strange ideas as to why we seem cursed?

I've boxed for a number of years and my old man is a UEFA certified coach, so we both know the importance of warming up the muscles properly. We were in the pub watching the build up to one of our matches the other week when we both noticed that a number of our lads aren't performing the excercises properly to get the muscles working.

These guys are professional athletes of the highest calibre and should know how to carry out these basic, fundemdntal moves. This is where I think the problem lies with the coaching staff, for one reason or another, they're slacking, or missing something which is costing our players and our team.

Who'd have believed in December that we would be playing with a real DM and we would be adapting our tactics to win games? But 2015 has brought with it the wind of change and we are reaping the benefits of that change now.
I find it impossible to believe no one can pinpoint why so many of our players Ox Aaron Jack Theo Gibbs Dannny can't go more than 4 or 5 games without missing a month, it has to be something to do with our training that in the past hasn't been open to question or change but with so much changing already this year I think we will in the coming months/summer sort this problem out too.
3rd place and retaining the FA cup are within our capabilities this season which would be excellent but if we continue to ride this wind of change next season could be very very exciting for us.
Putting everything right overnight is impossible but there is most definitely a new attitude and openness to doing things a liitle differently that has to be good news for everyone connected with Arsenal football club

Banter please Eds.

Firstly let me say hello to Red, CTR, I hope your little one is doing well, G62, DG, Derby, 337, and everyone else is have missed (there are too many to remember) and of course ED001 ED025 (you must be happy how your new team Arsenal are doing) and ED002, ED007, all the other Eds (wow that is a lot of people, my fault for not being on for so long!)

I really hope everyone is doing well.

I took some time out from posting as there was a little too much sniping and negativity for a period which I just didn't want to be part of.

The season is an interesting one doesn't everyone think?

My first comment is actually about Man U. I was, as all Arsenal fans wwere, elated by our win on Monday but to be honest I felt more confident than I had for many years we would win. I have to admit I feel sorry for Man U fans because Man U are in a rebuilding phase which I don't think their fanbase would have expected. Van Haal is a good manager and has done miracles with what he has available to him but I think needs a good 2 years to complete the needed rebuild. Man U fans should place the blame solely at the feet of Fergie, as he created this mess I hope the fans and the board stick by Van Haal as someone has to take the helm and be willing to see the rebuild through.

Now on to my beloved Arsenal. Right at the beginning of the season I said I thought we would have a strong season and I think we have done pretty well so far. West Ham this weekend is a very important game. It enables us to generate pressure on those ahead of us based upon our medium term form.

Wenger in my eyes has earned our support and we should give it. He has learnt (although I must admit I think he always knew the answers just didn't have players willing to execute the roles to such a plan)

We have been much more solid both in commitment and confidence in 2015 (minus the Monaco blip and one or two others) and this has provided a platform for improvement.

Coquelin has been a real bonus. He and Cazola look a good pivot and work well together and for each other.

Ozil in my eyes is just perfect for our style of play. He works hard, he is sublime, he attempts passes and sees space that others just don't see. He is actually the attack metronome in our team. He deserves our support and has mine fully.

I know we probably will not get close to Chelsea but I think there a more twists to come. Fabregas seems to be suffering his (well known to Arsenal fans) dip in form and he has been their metronome. Time will tell.

Let's get behind our team, carry them on the crest of our belief and support, and see where we can take them and they can take us.

We are Arsenal, let us not forget ever that we are a club of tradition and class, and we as fans, stating our love for our club should always behave with equivalent class.

All fans love their teams, all sometimes sees with tinted views, but passion for our clubs is what makes us fans.

Respect others as you wish to be respected, it is earn through ones own behaviour.

And I bet you all wish I hadn't returned after such a long post!

We could use the 'others' page for more than just after match moaning, to put all the bitchiness on there. So people have a page they can really get their moans off their chest, then come onto the banter page for a bit of lighthearted fun? We don't want people to need to stay away from the site, better if you can just avoid a particular page when it is too negative. Or, in some people's cases, avoid a particular page because it is too happy and they like being grumpy and negative!

What do you think? I am addressing that to everyone, would you prefer that kind of layout? The others page we already have more open to proper arguments anyway, while we tend to curtail them in here, so it is only a step further.}

I think its only natural that when things are going wrong that the fans feel are avoidable tensions will run high and part of the appeal of the site is being able to share those views but having a safe place that's free from negativity can only be a good thing.
One things for sure things should never ever get personal or abusive to other posters that's not on, we should all be able to respect others have different views to our without reverting to a playground mentality, grown up debate is interesting but silly swapping of insults is for kids who don't know better.

Ed,

I thought you said you wasn't going to tell anybody?

I can't help it if I have a fascination for Scandinavian steam trains from 1922 to 1968 lol.

Where's my anorak? :-)

The Ox is out for 4 weeks.

What is it with our mids?

Ox, Wilshere, Rambo, Walcott and Rosicky spend more time in the treatment room than on the pitch.

The amount of muscular injuries have not been sorted out. I believe it must have something to do with the training methods, indeed Sanchez apparently complained that he isn't being worked hard enough in training. You only have to look at Tottenham who are being worked extremely hard and have no injuries at present.
