That guy who attacked grealish was truly moronic! His wife and toddler have had to move because of death threats, while that's in no way OK, what did he expect as an idiot (a harsher term would be more fitting) who wanted to attack someone unprovoked the reaction of millions of villa fans who must have similar morons to him in their ranks would be? hopefully they don't get caught up in it, people like that clearly don't think about the wider repercussions!

I afraid, there are absolute morons about, that's life. The good thing is they are few and far between. There should be a stiff punishment for these morons who racially abuse players and physically abuse players. They cannot be allowed to do this sort of thing. Shameful thugs that just should not be anywhere near a football pitch.

11 Mar 2019 21:23:21
It's a job to know how to stop this sort of behaviour along with racism and all the other stuff that is raising it's ugly head again.
We certainly can't repeat the mistakes of the past but we have to find an answer asap and not let things get even worse before we do anything.
Docking the clubs points could actually make things worse when opposing fans see it as an opportunity to infiltrate and mix in the home fans then run onto the pitch in order to get an opposing club points docked.
The only way to stop that would to ban ticket exchange but that would lead to lots of empty seats at almost all games which wouldn't be good either.
I don't know what the answer is but we have to find one and quickly.

I don’t know the guys background or previous but assault is assault and it should be dealt with in the same way regards of who was assaulted, and the fact that he has been to court and sentenced to 14 weeks one day later is an absolute joke. If it was an unprovoked attack on the street to someone not as god like I doubt it would be dealt with one day later and 14 weeks for a single punch that caused no d bodily harm. But yes the guy is a moron.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Mar 2019 22:43:56
A mate of mines brother whacked a guy in the street and got 2 years, the guy on the receiving end had a bruised cheek, where does the 14 weeks come from.

11 Mar 2019 23:53:42
Sana, the scary thing is, he was already banned for life from football, so that worked, didn't it.

12 Mar 2019 01:16:51
Steve, Morons are ‘few and far between’? What workd do you live in? Haha, seriously though, I couldn’t agree mire with your posts on the matter! I had no idea that the guy was already banned for life either - that just further shows that more needs to be done because what ever the plan is now, it ain’t working!

I read this earlier,

Perspective, Is a strange thing.

I heard today on the news that some errant football fan, who for reasons known only to himself, raced onto the pitch and gave the Aston Villa captain a slap round the head, for which he was sentenced to 14 weeks in prison, ordered to pay almost £400 in fines, made to apologise for delivering said slap and banned from live games for 10 years.

Suitable punishment I suppose for brightening up what would otherwise be 90 mins of boringly punting a bag of air around the pitch. playing a game that tends to breed violence of one sort or another.

Meanwhile In London today.

A 20 year old man appeared by video link in court accused of stabbing a young girl in the back while she was listening to music with some friends, his accomplice also appeared in court, a 16 year old (whose name can't be revealed because of his age) , He was ordered to appear before the Old Bailey tomorrow, both scheduled to appear before Crown Court in September, SEPTEMBER!

So these two guys are going to be sitting in their comfortable cells, 3 meals a day, TV, Papers, games console, gym, library, education if they want it, anything their hearts desire apart from a walk down the high street for a pint.

My point is,

There's this footballer (who suffered marginal abuse at the hands of an immature moron who probably only just manages to write his own name) who felt disgust and fear because he was abused (poor boy) , Gets swift justice and an apology.

Then there's this girl, I wonder if she felt disgust and fear when she realised she was going to die, as she felt her life's blood draining from her and everything going dark around her, the sound of her friends screaming fading to nothing.

I wonder if her friends will ever feel safe again, wondering if they are next.

We know her family will never be the same again, will they have the marginal comfort of receiving swift justice for the loss of their child, no,

They are probably expecting these two guys solicitors getting them out on bail so they can freely walk the streets acting as they usually do being regaled as 'Gangsta heros' among their peers and possibly even escaping justice.

It just makes me wonder, is our justice system so screwed that some footballer is more important than a young girls life.

Does my nut in.

I must say, I have been very impressed with the way Jack handled the situation after he was attacked.

Not long ago he was left out of the Villa side because of his attitude problem. It now looks like he’s had some cracking advice and got his career back on track.

He has been absolutely outstanding this season and deserves an England call up.
He is the creative player this new England team is really crying out for in midfield.

I would absolutely love him to sign for Arsenal.

What’s your views on him as a player do any of you think he’s good enough for Arsenal?

I would absolutely dread it if he was to sign for Spurs.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Mar 2019 11:08:59
I agree stoner it's odd that this has been dealt with so quickly while other much more serious cases can take much longer and receive more lenient punishments, I would hope it's because there's absolutely no defending him, he was caught on camera, seen by millions and apprehended at the scene with thousands of witnesses, not just because it was high profile and dealt with differently to other cases to common folk.

12 Mar 2019 12:11:02
You’re right eden, all the evidence is right there in this case so a court case wouldn’t be protracted as a murder investigation is.

My guess is who ever wrote the article was more aggrieved in the sentencing that the offenders in the murder case would likely receive to that the moron got who ran on the pitch.

It’s good that the Court has sent a clear message to those going to games and hopefully the guy who pushed Smalling will get similar sentencing at Court.

People I assume are in essence, sick of the lenient manner in which much more serious incidents appear to be dealt with.

11 Mar 2019 14:50:15
Eds if we get top 4 would that change the targets we want to buy in the summer or stay the same.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - It won’t change targets but will make some achievable. Monchi will certainly change targets.]

12 Mar 2019 01:18:25
So you don’t think the current people at Arsenal will be realistic enough to know that they can be abit more ambitious with their targets if Champions league is on offer then Ed?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Clubs want players who will fit in and improve the team and the squad. They don't flip-flop to other targets if they qualify for the CL, it just makes some more attainable.}

13 Mar 2019 09:56:13
Thanks for the reply ed but I don’t mean that they’ll suddenly be interested in certain players, they’ll always have liked them but may have decided they aren’t realistically achievable due to certain factors - lack of CL being one.

You won’t see MK dons put in bids for Lionel Messi but i’m sure they are technically interested in him and are aware he would improve their team.

11 Mar 2019 14:05:55
Hi eds, what's your take on Monchi? The rumours are getting particularly leading now with him leaving Roma, and while much obviously depends on our final CL position come end of season, might he be a good appointment? My personal view is that things will get hung up on the power he requires to do his job compared to the power our executives are willing to grant him, but interested to see what you or others think. Cheers.

Just my take on our Penalty yesterday, which wasnt a game changer but still significant. There was contact at speed on the thigh, no question, then on the way down (both players falling because of the contact) fred pushes lacca. Now lacca is no diver, i can think of three times this season he has been fouled not gone down and not got anything, except a scewed cross or scewed shot because he was off balance because of the foul. Did lacca dive, no, no one is accussing him of that but maybe he has learned, if you get touched in the box, don't try to stop going down. There was contact, he did go down, fred never got the ball and fred tackled from behind. Just my take.

Spot on Steve. There is a slight nudge in the back to try and knock him off his stride.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Mar 2019 13:59:35
Would we be happy with the ref making exactly the same decision at the other end of the pitch to give United the chance to get a 1 1 draw or would we be calling the ref everything?
That's the true test that removes bias.
Personally I'd have been gutted and thought it was a very poor decision had it gone against us and cost us 2 points and equally I think so would you Steve.

Agree0 Disagree2

11 Mar 2019 14:03:10
I agree about the nudge and about the contact, and I agree it wasn't a dive, but not enough for a pen for me. I'm biased though, former CB/ CDM so I'll usually be on the defender's side for these.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Mar 2019 14:10:37
Bit soft but i'd have been aggrieved if it went against us, Lacazette is an honest player who doesn't tend to go down easily. The same with Kimpembe last week, could have gone either way. Say Laca stays on his feet, doesn't get the penalty and we equalise, all of a sudden the arguement would be why didn't he go down even with the minimal contact.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Mar 2019 14:49:56
Scholes, it was "soft" i agree but we don't have hardness tests. Lol. I have no problem with a penalty for or against when a striker is in front of the defender who nudges or pushes a striker off balance. If a tackle is made in the box, it has to be clean and the defender must get the ball. If he doesn't he gives the ref a decision, that for me is when it could be a problem, are they then consistent? But on this "penalty" Fred got none of the ball and some of lacca, who i don't have down as a diver, and that not biased, i have screamed at the tv because in the past he hasn't gone down.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Mar 2019 15:04:31
I have just read Dermot Gallagher's opinion on the penalty which i respect, he thinks it wasnt. But he says that the thigh "touches" lacca. My problem there is, its opinion then as to how much pressure was applied to force the player over. If fred doesn't get a touch on the ball and the player he does, at what pressure or non pressure is it a penalty or not. The truth is it then is all down to differing opinion.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Mar 2019 15:10:59
Just hope nothing extremely similar decides Thursdays second leg or ultimately costing us a top 4 spot Steve as in football it's quite often the case what goes for you one day goes against you another, the trick is to try and see it consistently at both times good and bad.

11 Mar 2019 15:22:21
It's called the 'Neymar School of toughening up' Steve lol,

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Mar 2019 15:41:23
Yes that's a good one Scholes.
Gunner, i'm sure in the next few weeks, we will benifit or not benifit from an iffy decision. i'm sure we will all be of a different opinion but one thing that won't change is. It won't matter a jot what we all think. Lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Mar 2019 16:52:55
True Steve very true:-)
The ref makes his decision whether it's right or wrong it is what it is, fortunately over a season iffy decisions tends to even themselves up for and against the trick is to remember the ones that went for you when inevitably others go against you from time to time.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Mar 2019 18:10:00
Well 62 mate, some bad decisions went against us last weekend, maybe its soft but for me the ref was in avery good position to know if its a dive or not. Same as steve I respect Gallaghers opinion and I wait every week to read them but for me it can be easy given as Fred’s arm is raised on lacca’s back as well.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Mar 2019 19:20:14
Like I say Moe if that decision was given to United and not us costing us a win I'd have been totally gutted, so I'd be pretty hypocritical to say it's ok for us but not against us.

11 Mar 2019 21:11:18
If it was anywhere else would it be a foul? I don’t care it’s 3 points lol.

12 Mar 2019 01:22:35
Agree with Steve in the sense that Lacca didn’t dive I don’t think but I also agree with g62 that it wasn’t a penalty and i’d have been outraged if it happened against us - the two are not mutually exclusive you can just genuinely go down without diving and without it being an unfair tackle.

Leno was outstanding yesterday, his decision making and speed of thought were excellent, he was equally as good with his feet as his hands but his foresight and decision making made him man of the match for me.
It's not often you are the better side and your keeper still gets man of the match but for me yesterday Leno really was that good.
If he can find consistency at that level he alone could worth an extra 10 to 15 points each season, maybe more.

Great game and great result, it seems we are doing a lot more and better defensively at home. Leno was awesome yesterday and well as the whole team collectively.

11 Mar 2019 14:08:36
It was a very good performance all round Moe but for me Leno's quick thinking and decisive actions prevented yet another debate about defensive frailties being necessary.
Lukaku will seldom play better without scoring.
Some of Leno's stops and his postponing were awesome but his proactive reading of situations stopped situations even getting the chance to expose us before they happened. Very very impressed by him yesterday.

11 Mar 2019 14:59:33
Leno hasn't really received much praise, but I read an article a month or so ago about who should be the England number 1, not about him obviously, but of the two stats he was included in, which included all keepers to of played any games this season, shot stopping: he came 4th behind only Allison, de gea and lloris and overall: which included shot stopping, distribution and dealing with crosses he also came 4th, i can't remember who that was behind, but still a fairly decent first season it seems he's having 😊.

Leno, is starting to look the real deal. I honestly can't think of a better save ever than the double one against spurs last week and against utd, his calm calculated timing on lakaku was brilliant.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Mar 2019 19:38:01
Up till now I thought there was little between Cech and Leno but Leno's recent form has made me think again, hope it continues because it's been a long long time since we had a top top keeper in his prime play for us and having a very top keeper can make such a huge difference.

Excellent result and performance. The atmosphere at The Emirates was amazing. I urge all supporters to turn up on Thursday and get behind the team, as we can still get through into the next round.
Yesterday, the whole team played well, with special praise for Leno, Koscielny, Maitland-Niles and Xhaka.
I beiieve that our home form is awesome, so qualification for the CL will depend upon the away results. let's hope Manchi joins and that Emery is given sufficient funds to bring in the players he needs.

I think making top 4 and next seasons champions league would certainly make the club more inclined to invest more heavily as it would be a genuine undisputed evidence of improvement in an extremely tough battle.
Long gone are the days of Arsenal United Chelsea and 1 other club making up the top 4 repeatedly, top 6 has never been tougher in my opinion but that won't stop 5th and 6th place managers suitability and capabilities being questioned come the end of the season no matter if they are Poch Ole Sarri or Dick.
