Giroud, Ozil, and Bendtner on the scoreboard today:) Bendtner with 2?

But Giroud's lob though. Wow.

It'll soon be Giroud, Ozil, Santi, Walcott, and Podolski together. Can't wait

Just a thought, although I am reasonably happy with our defence, I am not totally confident in their ability to keep a clean sheet. Individually, gibbs, per, kos and sagna are very good and as a "back four" they are very good but they still give me the jitters when we are put under pressure and are liable to concede.
Flamini babysitting in front of them has made them a bit more solid but why can't they be a bit more like dixon, adams, bould/keown, and winterburn?
Yes, I know the "latter" were a total one off, not just in English footy but pretty much global footy, but am I asking too much in making comparisons?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

No DG its not to much of an ask, but the real keybis Adams a born leader and every goal conceded hurt him and the players around him didn't upset Tone lightly

Agree0 Disagree0

Very true G62, I think you can mix and match and have a lot of foreign players in your team because of the flair they bring, but I have always maintained the best centre halves in the prem are English centre halves. lots of blood and guts, tony adams and john terry style lol

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah I hate John Terry the man but the player was a real leader and excellent player. I remember a champions league QF against Chelsea he was unbelievable, the invincibles just couldn't get past him that night.
In that match when thy scored it was the first time I really missed Tony's leadership we looked stunned by the goal and I so wanted Arsene to buy Terry back then

In my youth like nb52 I was an arse, saying and doing things I regret, what settled me down was having kids.
again last night he showed he knows where the goal is,
his talents have always been wasted out wide with us.
I think he can change, as I did as person, and played In the correct position he can emulate his international form for us.
everybody deserves. A second chance, except. Adebayor he is a ****

who misses wengerism? I know he was a bit annoying but I do, in a small percentage, miss him. come back wengerism we all miss you.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think he is watching reading and keeping a eye out for any criticising of Sir Arsene, let's hope we never hear from him again DG, in a nice way I mean that of course :-)

You could be right G62

With certain players coming back from injury there is one that I'm looking forward to. For me Santi goes without saying, but the player that I have in mind is Podolski. Now so far since his time with us he hasn't exactly lit the place alight, but the reason I'm excited by his return is his possible relationship with Özil.
Podolskis strength is his forward angled runs off the ball. He reminds me a little of Freddie Ljungberg. The amount of times Freddie use to make a well timed angled run and received the ball usually from the Master and ended up getting us 10 to 15 goals a season. With Özil being all about having his head up looking for that killer through ball, all we need is a forward who makes the right run at the right time.
On top of that the fact they know each other through their international exploits hopefully means less time needing to gel. With a player like Mesut the likes of Pod, Walcott and Giroud must be rubbing their hands together.
Add to the mix Cazorla and my god what a creative exciting midfield we have.

Could you imagine a fully fit durable reliable Diaby in that midfield. Such a shame.

I think he must be gagging to get back playing with Ozil, there was a clip of them together with Poldi saying he couldn't wait to tear it up with Mezut.

Are front five when all of them are fit is going to be something to watch.

Agree0 Disagree0

The pod, santi and theo all returning soon, it will be heaven at the emirates

Agree0 Disagree0

Flybo, unfortunately the words "fully fit" and "durable" and "diaby" do not go together in the same sentence lol.
(shame because he is a good player)

Benzema and Richards in Jan!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

If Richards keeps playing like he did against Bayern. I'll pass on him. And benzema isn't playing the best football either ATM, but class is permenent!

Its international time and again we talk about lack of English talent playing PL football so to in courage teams to back young English players what do you think of this!

Over the season any side that starts a game with 5 or more English players for 35 of 38 games receive a 5 point bonus. It would make clubs think is this young overseas player really that much better from another local lad or is fielding 7 - 11 non nationals worth more than 5 points a season. I think teams who expect a reputation battle would be swayed towards backing English tallent.

Its wouldn't be compulsory but might make teams at least want to produce players for the national game?

Thoughts? And Its just an Idea, go easy on me :-)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Personally I think the whole debate is xenophobic.

I am English and proud, but Arsenal comes first for me. I see no reason for us or any team to pander to the national team.

The real problem is that money in football is not distributed fairly enough. More money from the PL needs to filter down to grass roots football. Then maybe we'd see young players coming through.

Culture is also an issue. There is too much of an insistence on physicality at a young age. Skilful players often get let go by clubs because they haven't reached a physical level. If you look at Spain and Germany this attitude is completely the other way round.

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally agree with MHC Robson had a terrific work rate and was a hero where hoddle had only skill and was considered a luxury and where young talent is concerned in this country its still the same.
Every time the world cup comes round and England are not there or do badly we look for answers so points make prizes and there's no bigger prize than premier league survival for 15 or so teams each year and 5 points could be the difference

Agree0 Disagree0

The 5 points for fielding English players is a mental idea I'm sorry. It just can't work.

Agree0 Disagree0

Fair play MHC it was just an idea mate and maybe not the greatest one ever but I just feel the more people the question is open to the more likely we are to find the right answer as the fa haven't managed it on thier own all these years

Agree0 Disagree0

My one would be this -

All PL teams pays a proportion of its revenue every year to the FA to be directly invested into grass roots football. The money goes into a pot to set up more clubs and train more coaches etc etc. {Ed007's Note - In my opinion it is more to do with the fact English clubs place too much emphasis on physical training rather than football coaching. In the UK you are seen as an athlete first and footballer second. This leads to British players being technically inferior to others.
Look at Ozil as an example, I think he is a fantastic player, one of the best in his position but if he had been English he would have been made to bulk up and become a MF terrier harassing opposition players and breaking up play. There are plenty of coaches out there but it is what they are coaching the kids that is the problem. Coach them in the technical side of the game, allow them flourish and express themselves on the park and most importantly allow kids to enjoy playing at that age. The majority of kids at 13/14 shouldn't need much fitness training, general footballing training and playing matches should be enough to keep them fit, plus they have P.E. at school.
Some of the coaches at local youth games are appalling, they think they are Mourinho the way they carry-on. Sorry for the rant.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Kids need to enjoy the training they get or they loose interest and drift away that's a fact. Everything they do should include a ball and only train once or twice a week max and play at weekends especially before their 14 at which age you have a far better idea of what needs to be added to their game and which ones have a real chance.
Then and only then should it be stepped up and more serious. But we still need an incentive to clubs in this country to back English talent ahead of any other, and the same for other countries too they should be doing all they can for their young players to come through

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with all that has been said above but also the problem is the price. For example, a good young English player like wilfred zaha was bought by Manchester United for £13m but, you could buy a "foreign" wilfred zaha who is probably more experienced and possibly technically better for £7m. Young english players are too expensive.
If you were manager of a team you have just justify your outgoings to the chairman and board. why pay £13m when you can pay £7m?

No ed07 don't ever feel the need to apologise for a rant that is all true, as I am irish myself I can't help but wonder why england do so poorly when it comes to tournaments, with football as the first and foremost sport in england and an 80 million population and the best league in the world, why does it go so wrong?

In ireland football comes in at tied 3rd in the rank of importance when it comes to sport with rugby. Ahead of it we have galeic football and hurling, some of the players that play either if they played football I think we would have an amazing overachiving team for the size of the island, in short really I know why we are not competetive but can't understand with the players that england have, are not.

Agree0 Disagree0

D G you spot on mate, a few years back we wanted to by Darren Eaddie from Norwich but they wanted 7 million for him so we bought Overmars instead for the same price. One was a punt the other a total certainty,
Some how we need to make buying English good value, maybe bigger clubs being given an option of try before you buy on English players with one year loan and fee set by league after that year that's binding. Not perfect but could be worked on by better people than me I'm sure

Agree0 Disagree0

No need to apologise for a rant Ed! But correct me if I'm wrong isn't that exactly the point I made in my first post ;) {Ed007's Note - Ooopsss!!! So you did lol, sorry buddy. Although I must say that I feel I made my point more eloquently and I expanded on your poxy little scribble :)

Agree0 Disagree0

G62, you are correct and darren eadie was nowhere near as good as marc overmars.
I agree with you about the "try before you buy" on English players although i'm sure there will be people getting on their high horse and saying its not politically correct or that foreign players are being alienated.
unfortunately, its not just about players though. It would be interesting to know how many English managers there are in the league. i'm going to have a rough guess and say about 60% (im sure there are a few "tech heads" on here who can give us the correct amount), but, either way I think it is way too low.

Agree0 Disagree0

Its a tricky situation DG and what we all want is out mangers and players to be as good as any others not become more insular.

What ever we do it has to be produced by free will not laws and rules, that's why we need an incentive of some sort

Personally hoping he has a crap game if I'm honest.

Assuming you were able to make two signings in the January window, who would they be? Please be realistic.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'd suggest the following -

Kurt Zouma - cover for defence
Benzema - competition for Giroud

I don't think anyone would be knocking our depth then.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Oct 2013 09:48:59
Kurt Zouma as a young and talented CB and would be fantastic with the experience of Kos, Mert and Vermaelen. Wouldn't need a massive fee.

Javier Hernandez is realistic for January but has already played for United in the UCL. Jackson Martinez has a £32 million release clause so highly unlikely and I'm guessing we'll be strongly linked with Benteke again.

Agree0 Disagree0

Reus at all costs.

On JW issue, anyone else more concerned on his comments about what an Englsnd player should be than on the nationality side-show? So many good enlgish players have been wasted by clb and country for not playing 'English' . Arsenal showcases technicians, and you can be a technician and hard in the tackle and fast on the pitch. That said, Ray Parlour is still one of my favorites
