It's that time of year again when the raver has just taken the Subaru for a spin to get it nice and ready for another season, I love this time of year when all the banter kicks off and all the highs I experience every Saturday night. It's going to be a open season again and I think west ham and Everton are dark horses to surprise a few people, my top 4 is Utd, spurs Arsenal west ham.

I get why west ham is there but spurs?

Let's hope the Subaru is safely tucked away in the garage before you engage in your usual Saturday night high Raver!

Ialmost all the TV pundit are tipping a top 4 of city utd Chelsea Arsenal and the majority in that order.
Personally I expect Chelsea City Utd Arsenal but wouldn't be surprised if one of the top 4 favorite's make way for either
Liverpool
Spurs
Everton
West Ham
Leicester
In that order.

Raver,
Like your team, I think your Scooby Doo is going to cough, cough, splutter, splutter mate.

That said, if Arsenal finish higher than you on a night out, we will win the league.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2016 23:31:20
I bet every fan of a looser club like Spurs can't wait for the season to start! It must be the one time of year you truly feel in the mix.

So, let's ditch the topic of transfers once again and do some team discussion!

The way I see it, £35m for Xhaka means he's a nailed on starter, when fit.

Assuming I'm correct (and I always am. ) who do you think we should partner him with?

For me, it should vary, I'd love to see him partnered with Elneny against physical and/ or attacking teams, but when we play teams we can pick apart, then Cazorla or Ramsey.

Midfield is a difficult one for me to be honest, I've already stated my opinion we have the best centre mid in the league (though I know a lot of you ladies and gentlemen, including ed's, disagree! )

I really want to see Ramsey played this season, central and allowed to roam a bit, like for Wales.
But I also want to see Elneny play because I really think he's a cracking player.
Cazorla, too of course, is fantastic, great when he played in pre season, even if we didn't have the most challenging teams till city.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

12 Aug 2016 15:32:28
Think you hit the nail on the head mate! If we need to play more defensive then pair him with le coq or Elneny and play him in the deeper roll with cazorla or Ramsey . For me cazorla when fit should always get the nod.

Agree1 Disagree0

12 Aug 2016 17:10:46
Le Coq? He is the real DM we needed for years and his inclusion turned the 14/ 15 around completely, do we now say ok let's go back to make shift DM of sorts like Artetta was?

Agree0 Disagree1

12 Aug 2016 17:31:00
I think the point is we now have a player who can be utilised given the opponent and the pattern of the game.

Agree0 Disagree1

12 Aug 2016 19:09:24
Elneny Xhaka in middle

Rambo on RHS

Sanchez on LHS

Ozil in the hole

Theo up front for now

defensive midfield for Sunday but pace for the counter.

Agree1 Disagree2

12 Aug 2016 20:01:11
I'm not sure Ozil will be playing SY and could see Cazorla or Ramsey in the hole, Coquelin has done nowt wrong and he and Cazorla pre their respective injuries last season were great.

We have so many midfield options it's crazy. Theo, Ox and Sanchez up front with a ton of pace will cause Liverpool problems, especially if they put the ball in the net.

With our young centre backs of whom Beilek and Holding impressed me most may see Coquelin start next to either Xhaka or Elneny. Wenger may even put Monreal next to Holding and Gibbs at left back.

Agree1 Disagree0

12 Aug 2016 20:06:15
Yeah, that's what I'm going for too Sanogo, great minds!

I do love Coquelin G62, but I honestly think Elneny is better, he just has more running and transitional play in him.
Coquelin is certainly the player you go to when you just want to cause havoc in the midfield, but for me, Elneny has that Kante style quality where he can run, tackle, mark and distribute to the playmaker.

Mind you mate, I also still believe we're going to sign a striker, so what do I know!

I like the sound of that SY, though I'd like Ox to get a run on the right.
If he plays like he did in preseason and can get some run of games, he could hit form!

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2016 20:14:18
Sy, I'd much rather Campbell out wide. Ramsey is wasted out there but it's a double edged sword having such a large group of talented centre mids.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2016 20:55:51
For me Le Coq does what it says on the DM tin, sits holds breaks up the opposition attacks, thars what the best of the best Makalele did so simply brilliantly. Plus his range of passing is much better than he is given credit for although he also knows the value of keeping it simple.
Elneny? Eager enthusiastic keen constantly got his hand up asking for the ball who a ok also gets all other the place but not to anywhere near the same effect as Kante.
For me Elneny does have the simplicity or disapline in his make up to be a reliable DM.
Again it's all about opinion but the best DMs to me are happy to be unsung match winners who seldom get the headlines by scoring winners but are only really appreciated 100% when thier missing.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2016 20:59:35
Totally agree with that NE mate, pick the best team which isn't necessarily always the best 11 players available.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2016 21:41:47
Ozil won't play surely. So Rambo will probably play behind the forward.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Aug 2016 00:32:15
Forgot about Ozil plus Santi is away. I like my defensive hard working midfield so switch Iwobi into Ozil role and done.

Centre halves Holding and Chambers.

So basically Wenger is saying I know English clubs have to pay more because of influx of TV money but I refuse to, I want to keep the TV money for our board.

Spend some f money chants again Sunday if we concede first what a joke we are, us fans deserve better.

Believable5 Unbelievable1

12 Aug 2016 15:02:39
So basically you're saying that if we concede first we are a joke, even though we win the match in the end? Or is that you being frustrated and overstressed? Us Arsenal fans are sooo emotional, it makes me wan't to throw a tantrum and cry.

Agree1 Disagree2

12 Aug 2016 17:15:57
King Louis, I'm sure your last sentence is a line from 'Cemetery Gates' the Smiths' song.

Spanner it is annoying how stubbornly frugal Wenger is and how he refuses to adapt to the times but that's why we love him! I'm a fan of his philosophy and what he's brought to the club but I do wish he was more willing to push the boat out in times of need - such as when we barely have any CB's or forwards one day before the league starts! Or when everyone else can identify that we need to add goals to compliment our chances created.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2016 17:36:03
Don't worry King the emotion is definitely fading for many Arsenal fans mate, when people stop moaning about the clubs lack of ambition the club really is in trouble.
This is the umpteenth poor widow for the club and I don't sense as much anger as in previous pathetic windows.
For many people its just a case of hoping something changes at the top next summer to reignite thier Arsenal passion and if it doesn't I think Arsenal will become a less and less important part of peoples lives.

Agree2 Disagree0

12 Aug 2016 18:59:45
No king Louis I'm not saying we are a joke if we concede first I'm saying we are being taking for mugs as every other club who has received less TV money then us is spending it to make there team stronger where we get excuse about inflated fees for English teams.

Nice reference Theperfectgoal ^^.
Gunner62, I think it is still a bit too early to call this window poor. Sorry to remind you this dreadful souvenir but not so long ago we had the likes of Chammakh or Santos, and thankfully this eon seems to be over.

Since we had the Ozil miracle move, things get better every year, slowly I admit it, but it gets better. We have IMO a good mix between young and established talents now. Every position is really solid now, except for CB and CF. As soon as we get a CB like Mustafi, only CF position remains a problem. I think we'll have the CB problem sorted soon, and I think we tried to have a CF.
I also think that before Gabriel's injury, CF was the club's priority. But it failed with Vardy refusing the risk and freaking Aulas gripping Lacazette tightly. How many other strikers "tick all the boxes"? And amongst them, how many already are in such good clubs they've no reason to move? And even if you were ready to slpash 70M on Higuain, what would you do if Juve came and put 90?
I trully think we're doing well. It might be even better with luck, but that's something we lack sadly.

So I do not make fun of an Arsenal fan that gets emotional because he or she's scared that we can't compete with oil and gaz companies, that's a true concern, but I do when the fan in question says we are a joke because we aren't. When I hear Malaga saying he hopes we fail this year, or Spanner saying that if we concede the first goal we are a joke, I prefer to make fun of them rather than giving them an ounce of credit.

Passion is not fading, this site shows it well. Expectations are high, and it's fine. As you say it is a sign of passion, so keep hoping, keep your passion, support the team cause you'll be rewarded sooner or later!

Chamack and Santos were very poor signings by Arsene on that I agree totally King, but
solid everywhere but CB and CF? that's like having a car that's solid every where but the roof and floor :-)
Things have got better each year since Mesut arrived? 71 points last season was a terrible return.
Expectations are high? Only for a quarter of our fans as the other 3 quaters agree with all the pundits who expect nothing more than the usual from Arsenal
The good news is atleast we agree on Chamack and Santos King :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Aug 2016 01:21:24
That is a good start indeed ^^
I think it still gets better because we used to have serious issues with many positions since he who must not be named moved to united (and even before) I mean we had GK, CB, FB, DM, CF and winger issues, and most of them are sorted now. Listening to the fans a few years earlier, the squad needed a complete overhaul, now everyone says that a couple of classy signings could make us match the very best teams. And I just think the same, we're very close mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2016 13:07:02
I know everyone entitled to his/ her opinion. But all the talk about us being not ambitious and we don't have a squad to be fight to the top teams is just getting ridicules, no disrespect to anyone here.
We have one of the better mid-flied players in the premier league we have a great keeper, our full backs are very good, we have kos the boss and hopefully soon mustafi. And two very good youngester which they will be come great for the club future. Our attacking ain't bad at all, we have sanchez, iwobi is very promissing and playing with no fear, look at the other youngster that came through otht club and did really well such as Alli which gives us no reason why we should talk down our players.
I'm with all of you regarding the need to have an upgrade on Giroud but what are we going to do if we don't sign one, we give up on the season even before the ball kicks off.
Just get a grip and hold your breath and have some faith in your team. It really isn't as bad as everyone is thinking.
Lots of players will turn up this season such as wilsher if he stays fit, welcott and the ox too.
Some say be a realist, some say be logical but I say always believe in your team that will beat any one, because this arsenal and this my team.
bring on liverpool on sunday.

Great post Moe.

Agree3 Disagree1

12 Aug 2016 14:45:36
thing is, moe, a great striker in a good team is what can win you the league and we don't have mustafi (yet) . those are two big gaps which need filling.

Agree1 Disagree0

12 Aug 2016 15:37:41
NE, that's so true but also with our midfield players I think sanchez and iwobi they are going to have a lot of freedom up front.
We will sign a defender that's for sure, we can't be having talk to an experienced CB if we are not planning to get one. And as for a striker if we don't buy one, I have a feeling that wenger will have a defferent approach attacking, I might be wrong but we have to wait and see because all the moaning won't speed anything up it will only cause us (the fans) all the distress and pain.
We are always late in buying players so let's just wait and see before we shout anyone in the foot lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2016 16:40:36
Fans behind their teams make a bigger effect than ANY 1 player. let's hope the yanks leave and we get owners that want to win. Wenger could have left at any point but his dedication has got us the emirates we should repay him.

12 Aug 2016 12:42:18
Everyone knows we need a CB. So the fact that we have to fly with the two young uns isn't really that much of worse position than we were in before the injurys to mert and gab considering I think there both pants anyway!

Believable1 Unbelievable0

12 Aug 2016 12:15:03
Did anyone see the full press Liverpool conference with arsene. When asked about the contracts of ozil and sanchez he looked so visibly shaken and he was stumbling his words all over the place.
Both players have been lukewarmly linked with moves this window.
This is one of the reasons I'm so upset with all this value b lox! As much as I am against frivolous spending investment not only strengthens the team but often convinces the best players to stay.
Our remit for the start of this season was clear to all. Bring in a quality cdm to replace rosicky, arteta and flam which has been done. send chambers on loan and bring in an experienced quality cb to partner kos. Keep mert in the squad for his value to the squad. up top we had the option to either sell Walcott if we needed more funds and bring in a top cf who can play wide or keep Walcott sell Campbell (who is not a bad replacement) and buy a top out and out cf.
Only 1 has happened so far. Very disappointing no wonder he was stumbling over ozil and sanchez!

I'm interested to know what the issue is, surely you stacks of cash? I'm starting to see son of SAF's later traits in Wenger, no value in the market and all that. I really think with a couple of top signings you guys will be right in the mix.

12 Aug 2016 14:31:59
Agree poor for malaga,

Dont mind your silly rumour posts but to start the season as a so called arsenal fan wishing failure on the team and also our manager ( most successful manager) is just poor.

like hi or not, want him to move on or not, no need to be as disrespectful as to say the man deserves nothing else.

he is the reason that most fans are now pushing for him to leave, he is the one who took us to the very top of the prem, gave us the invincibles, steadied us through the move the the emirates, made us the most successful club in the fa cup.

as i say weather you feel his time is up or not that's fine but at least show a little class and respect.

I would really love to find out one day whether Malaga is a real person or a persona.

12 Aug 2016 17:48:27
I am sure that malaga is not Arsenal supporter. he is coming here for years just to bring some ITK info and trying to wind us up. I am trying to just ignore his posts that's the best thing to do.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed041's Note - Malaga is a gooner, he's alright too for one I'll add.

12 Aug 2016 20:07:18
Never did I think I'd see the day you said that Chris. ;-)

Whilst somewhat over the top with that comment Malaga has been fed up with Wenger from the days he was Tony Soprano, through to Champagne Charlie and finally Malaga although Malaga has always been there in the background. :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2016 15:14:48
Love him or hate him, it's his last season. If you don't want him to go out on a high, and you want Arsenal to lose just to spite him, then you're clearly not actually an Arsenal fan.

Ed, Who is Jeremy Mathiue?

Is he good enough for us? I've never heard him before.

Believable3 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - Barca defender, he is ok, can play centre back or left back but picks up quite a few injuries. More of a centre half than full back now as his legs are going.}

12 Aug 2016 09:25:46
Have you read the poch mocks Jose's desperate spend in the metro this morning, if I wasn't mistaken I would of thought that was Wenger speaking check it out and tell me your views morning btw.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

12 Aug 2016 09:37:48
Especially when he said this : "We are open to adding one or two players or maybe no one. But if we have the possibility to sign a player that can improve us, we are very open. "

And were led to believe only Wenger says that. 😉.

Agree2 Disagree1

12 Aug 2016 12:29:04
Desperate spending? One of the best players in France, Germany, Italy and a hugely promising centre half. Doesn't look desperate to me. Sounds like Poch, Klopp, and even Arsene are trying to divert attention.

Agree1 Disagree1

12 Aug 2016 12:59:46
Desperate AJH, as in you genuinely did desperately need to upgrade in a lot of areas, that to me doesn't equate to sheer desperation as in 😱 but simply something needed fixing, he fixed it.

As for Wenger and Klopp, they were simply asked a question about the size of the fee and commented on that. Neither manager is like Mourinho in that they constantly need to blow someone else's candle out to make their's shine bright. The bloke is a pee rick.

Good luck with the A1 twonk. 😉.

Agree7 Disagree0

13 Aug 2016 05:56:02
Ah, fair point. As foe the A1, my credentials are sound. Born in Manchester, starting supporting in '75 when we were in Div 2. As fir Jose, whilst everyone is now fully behind him, it would be fair to say that opinion was somewhat split before his appointment.

Let's see what happens. You could argue Chelsea bought their way to success, City clearly did and putting Leicester aside, it looks like that's the way to succeed. Not saying its right but it is odd that Wenger won't spend when you clearly have cash.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2016 08:27:05
Ok, here is my 10 pence. People are believing we are going to sign a striker. Wenger has already come out and said Theo is to be played as a striker this season, which in theory leaves a door open for a winger. I believe and its just my belief Wenger is going for a winger and not a striker and going to have trust in Theo to be a striker. I believe the real target is Mahrez, which would have Theo/ Ox - Sanchez - Mahrez across the front three. That is my belief. Wenger will not pay the inflated prices for a striker and who can blame him. Just saying. Another point, players don't want to come to Arsenal (so they say/ read) I also believe that we are just as difficult to deal with as Lyon which the 'agents' like to steer clear from. Again Just Saying.

Believable2 Unbelievable2

12 Aug 2016 09:38:53
Good job you're not Wenger otherwise it'd only be 9 pence. 😂😂.

Agree2 Disagree1

12 Aug 2016 10:01:04
I think the clubs obvious lack of real ambition on the field of play might be putting one or two players off joining us, Ozil and Sanchez will leave next summer and who in their right minds that is capable of replacing them would consider doing so?
Why would any player with ambition join Arsenal? And they aren't the ambitious type why would we fans want them?

you talk about or lack of ambition in the field and then mention in your next line two players that we have brought in recent seasons that surely show ambition?
