Hope you all gooners have been good. I know i have not posted here for a long time. I have been busy. Missed reading posts and talking to you guys.

Watched the game today and i have to say i was impressed with guenduozi. The kid has a future and serious talent. Cech and sokrtatis were decent as was torreira when he came on.

Mustafi. xhaka and Ramsey were shocking. was not surprised Emery took ramsey and xhaka off. i have always said that bellerin, ramsey, xhaka and mustafi were not good enough to start for Arsenal.

Now that kroenke has taken full control, i hope he makes serious investment into the team. It is obvious this team needs a whole load of new players.

Kroenke has to put his money where his mouth is. It is just not good enough to say you have the ambition to win the league and champions league. You must state how you will reach that goal, something kroenke never does. He needs to tell us how he will take us to the promised land.

Hi Punani mate good to hear from you.

I understand your frustration but it's the first game under a new manager. So we all have to be patient as this players are being taught a new playing style. It took Pep and Klopp some years to get the best of their teams. While it may take time we hope it comes quickly. But for a few mistakes we weren't that bad against a team who have played together under the same coach for at least 3 years. We also created some chances we should have finished on another day. I'm sure when we the players do get this new system we will be a team many look at. Cheers.

Hi mate,

I’m not certain the man at the top has the intent needed mate, Liverpool and Chelsea have probably spent more on just goalkeepers that we have on 5 outfield players.

Aside from Torreira, who is a genuine breath of fresh air, I’d say our window was pretty underwhelming. Kroenke really doesn’t have the stomach to achieve anything mate.

1 game in, we don’t look like a top four side, but it takes time. I have no expectations of trophies, challenges or anything that a big club should be doing because Wenger, much as I didn’t like to think it, allowed us not just to stagnate, but go backwards alarmingly.

I hope if nothing else from this first game, that we don’t see Xhaka in the starting 11 for the premier league again this season. He adds absolutely nothing and I mean nothing to our midfield.

We have some great offensive players and will need to rely on them and Torreira to protect our still dodgy defence.

For me it’s get next week out the way and then we have a run of games to try and get settled.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Aug 2018 15:23:34
Elneny before Xhaka every time for me, Xhaka must have played 70 + games for us now has he had even 7 good games in those 70?
1 in 10 good games is appalling but I'm genuinely not sure he's even done that, you can't keep playing with 10 hoping he will score a 40 yarder at some point somewhere.

It won't be long till your back to your old selves boys
Now to be fair I was excited when United went 1 0 up the other night but then we went straight back to where we left off. Sit back and hope.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2018 22:20:07
I see a relatively tough season for us both 12 mate, it will be tough for us to break into or even challenge for top 4 and it will be tough for you to not challenge for the title but still have to watch a less than exciting United.
You will definitely make top 4 but is that enough for United, especially a non entertaining United mate? Not a dig mate just a genuine question.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2018 22:21:42
you need to give emery more time. As much as he wasn't my choice, he was really left with a rubbishty team. There is just little a coach can do in such a case. The buck stops with the owner. If he wants to compete, he needs to invest millions and millions into this team. Years of under investment have taken their toll.

The team needs a right back, new pair of central defenders, a box to box midfielder and two wingers. That is a minimum of five players.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2018 23:02:04
G 62 your right looks like we will see plenty negative football and little silly digs between manager and players just like pogba already.
It will be everyone's fault but Jose.
I will support the team but hope it's joses last year.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2018 23:49:44
Totally agree 12 Jose is like a sad comedian who once the biggest act in town but has now run out of good materiel and looking for someone else to blame.
United are far bigger than Jose Mourinho no matter how brilliant he once was and while he is happy to talk the talk it's always been Uniteds way to want to walk the walk, and do it with style too.
I think like you he will see this season out and be replaced.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2018 19:37:12
It was a tough game to start a new season, but we can take positives from the game like xhaka is definitely shyte, ramsey as ed25 stated in the post below should be warming the bench, and I really think we should start we Lacca and Auba.
Also Lichtsteiner should start instead of bellerin.
But liking the new kid
Good positives tho.

12 Aug 2018 19:55:40
Moe, Gouendouzi is raw, he needs help, xhaka is no role model or mentor. Maybe him and torreira going forward can become the new central mid. Definitely not as flakey or untalented, like xhaka or al ninny. Bellerin looks so weak and lich needs to replace him pronto. The forward line needs a direction, it has bags of potential but looks out of balance. Myki or ozil need dropping lacca and auba needs to form a relationship.

Agree1 Disagree0

12 Aug 2018 19:59:25
I agree. Early days and a baptism of fire. We still asked a few questions, looked better when Torreira was on. Goudenuzi looked good at times and a 19 year old the rest. Lichtsteiner looked seasoned like a good bit of oak. You know what you get! Experienced athlete. Sokratis looked poor and cumbersome next to mustafi . Cech had a good game. It will come it wasn’t awful . Home defeat an all but a start against the best side in England.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2018 20:05:38
The biggest positive for me Moe is today was a very tough start for Emery apposed to extention of a tough decade under Arsene.
I really don't mean that disrespectfuly towards Arsene but at least we have every reason to hope for real improvement in the coming months and years now as apposed to simply thinking here we go again.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2018 21:08:53
Agree 100% with you steve, he is definitely not a finished product but.
62 mate, having that sub change in the 54th min means there something different happening 😂.
I think Xhaka failed in his position today, actually he failed the whole game today.
But I liked Torreira’s energy.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2018 21:40:34
Moe, the kid is strong and has great ability, tackles holds the ball and passes. For us to get the best out of him, he needs help from a central mid partner, who won't leave him exposed. He has got to learn from his mistakes and quick but if he does, we have a talent. If he doesnt, he and us will have to be a bit more patient with him. The problem there is we need a stronger central pair and if he and torreira can't do the job together, i don't see anyone else.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2018 21:26:11
3 of the new lads were voted 2nd 3rd 4th best Arsenal players today, Lacasette was voted our best in a poll across all fans Arsenal neutral and spuds alike.
Xhaka came out best amoung Spurs fans :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2018 21:27:11
Agree moe, only three subs allowed, otherwise Dick would have took off a few more under performers.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Aug 2018 08:32:09
But. But we were meant to see a different haka! Can't blame him anyway, it's all Chambers fault.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2018 19:05:53
If we are playing out from the back cech is not good enough to accept and pass the football. We also have to be a lot cuter by mixing it up a bit with the balls out. Are mustaffi, socratis or bellerin good enough to do that?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

12 Aug 2018 19:17:52
I think that's what Dick is trying to find out mate, not everything the manager trys will come off and not every player he gives an opportunity to will grab it with both hands but come October both Dick and us will know more than we do now.
Early changes in the second half and a lot more vocal and physical activity from Dick in the touchline than we are used to from our manager is a big plus.

Agree1 Disagree0

12 Aug 2018 18:55:20
Torreira comes from a town called fray bentos in Uruguay, we need him to show us he's full of beef and gristle because we've got more than enough puff pastry in the midfield already.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - nice one mate..

12 Aug 2018 19:09:53
Like it. yeah how well Torreira settles is going to be vital to how well we do this season and having that slim chance of top 4 still. He already looks like the first name on teamsheet to me, let's hope he stays injury free.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2018 19:22:16
Our chances top 4 were always as outsiders of 6 before today's game and I don't think this result will have changed our chances one way or the other because at least 2 of the other big 5 clubs will also get beaten by city at home this season in my opinion.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2018 16:56:06
45 minutes into the new managers Arsenal career against the best team in England, I always thought it might take a little longer than that to put right what's been wrong for a decade.
It's not good in fact we are exactly where we were last season but that was after 22 years of planning and team building so let's give change a little bit longer before we get to disheartened.

Believable1 Unbelievable2

12 Aug 2018 17:49:37
Agree gunner, for me what was sad was the performances from the serial offenders of dross performances, xhaka bellerin ozil myki and ramsey, from the experienced side. I also think the 433 formation should be binned asap.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2018 17:51:18
From another angle, it was a babtism of fire for Emery and this inherited squad of flakey players.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2018 18:07:47
Not going to slate them too much after all it was Man City who are pretty well ahead of everybody at present. Agree Though Steve Bellerin and Xahka in particular are weak links. I think a 3-5-2 would be better for us especially against the better teams.

Agree1 Disagree0

12 Aug 2018 18:13:37
It won't get any tougher Steve that's for sure, we are not in the champions league so City are the best side we will face this season.
Chelsea away next week is obviously no walk in the park but we need to see improvement on today even if it's not dramatic improvement that produces 3pts or even 1pt it has to be better simply because Chelsea are not city.
Xhaka voted worst player by Arsenal and neutral fans alike in a fan player rating poll, no one got high marks for us, it was a mixed bag for the other players you mentioned Steve but it does seem Xhaka performance was the one everyone agreed on the most.
I can't see why people rate him but hopefully I might as the season goes on but I'm sure the team will improve more and more as the season goes on but Xhaka? He's got his work cut out to win me over personally.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2018 18:17:37
For me Lacazette and Aubameyang should be starting every game and Emery should be choosing one of Ramsey and Ozil. Actually was pleased with the play of the centre halves there was one very lazy play with Mustafi when he was 1 v 1 with Sterling but other than that I was actually impressed with the partnership Emery chose. It was the play of the full backs that was woeful and appalling. Guendouzi’s a nice player in the midfield but he should be playing with Torreira not Xhaka. Believe it or not I was actually kind of encouraged by the match and believe when Emery nails down a regular starting XI they’re going to be a diificult side to play against.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2018 18:27:56
4 4. 2 - drop Rambo and change formation against the stronger sides.

Centre midfield partnership let us down again for both goals.

Bellerin, Sokratis, Mustafi ( replace long=term ) , Need a proper left back

Ozil, Torreira, Guendouzi, Mkhitaryan

Aubameyang and Lacca.

Agree1 Disagree0

12 Aug 2018 18:35:24
Agree Quoth Aubu and lacazette should start to develop a potential deadly partnership. I think it is too much of a luxary to have both Xakha and Ramsey starting. Torreira and Guendouzi or Elneny should start as the DM's with Ramsey further forward.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i would have ramsey further back ryan..like on the bench..

12 Aug 2018 18:38:25
I was baffled by ramseys position in the team today, he seemed to be playing CF most of the game and did nothing, auba, myki and ozil for most of the game looked as though they didn't know where they should be. Unfortunately niles was woeful at left back, was completely found out, lich looked far better.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2018 18:45:20
I don’t think the starting XI will be the same against Chelsea, Laca should start, Xhaka shouldn’t, it was as difficult as it gets today.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - very tough start bambam which is just what you dont want with a new manager and new players, chelsea up next is tough as well but then you will settle i hope and we should see the team develop from there..

12 Aug 2018 18:50:23
I would have Ramsey playing deeper than that still Ed025 mate, deep in Europe Spain Germany France or Italy asap before thier window closes, if we can find a buyer.
20 million now is better than nothing next summer for a non committed showboat player who thinks he's much better than he really is.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i want to argue with you mate...but i cant..

12 Aug 2018 18:53:50
Yeah Steve AMN was targeted for sure today but it is not his fault he is not LB but having both our usual LB's out left us hamstrung in that sense. Torreira has to be starter now. Agree Ramsey does not seem to know what role he fits into. If Xakha is to play he should be further forward and have Torriera and Elneney/ Guendouzi as the the two DM's then Miki, Ozil and Xhaka or Ramsey ahead in the 3 behind Both Aubu and Lacazette drop the fullbacks and go 3 at the back. Bellerin is weak link and needs dropping have a back 3 of Monreal (Kos when he is back) Mustafi and Sokratis. Leno should be given a chance as number 1.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2018 21:44:37
Banbury, i not only think the personnel will change, i think myki will be changed, i think torreira will play and i think the formation will have to change. It wouldn't surprise e to see lich start, left or right back.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2018 16:26:55
Get xhaka off!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

12 Aug 2018 16:35:21
My lord he’s been dreadful. Bellerin too. Fullbacks are a huge weakness.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2018 16:51:55
Xhaka and bellerin have been at their usual low standard.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2018 17:22:22
Don't understand why Torreira was not picked, but should be going forward. Yeah Bellerin is weak.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - not as weak as that kid from diversity in your back line ryan..

12 Aug 2018 18:15:48
Ed, the boy from Diversity almost cost us two goals but I thought he did well outside of that and let down by Xhaka.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - xhaka was woeful SY but i thought diversity boy gave the ball away a lot and besides not actually knowing his name i dont know where he was supposed to be playing!, i might be a bit unfair and premature here but he did not look arsenal material on todays performance mate..

12 Aug 2018 19:22:51
Ed 025, it shows how bad We were, Souness said he was our best player. Still on the plus side, citeh will do that to more teams than us in the top six.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i heard that steve and thought he was taking the piss, your right about city though and they were certainly not at their best or strongest today which is a worry, emery must be given time though mate and the fans need to stick with him, this is not a quick fix and it will take him a while to find his best 11, the good thing is that you have a lot of good players so its not all gloom and doom..

Whatever happens today, i won't draw any conclusions, its too early and while a win would be great, a loss isn't the end of the world. Perspective is needed and a bit of patience. Patience with wenger had worn thin but we must give Dick some time to make us consistent. I still think we will struggle for a while in the league but the europa dopa is what we can target. Its a long long season. 1-1 today is my prediction.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

About as tough an opening two matches as we could get. I will be happy if we avoid defeat today and would take a 1-1 draw now!

12 Aug 2018 08:17:41
I agree 100% Steve, should we beat City today we won't suddenly become challengers and the same if we get beaten we won't suddenly become mid table struggles.
We are most people's and the bookies underdogs of the big clubs for a reason so this season is all about improvement and making sure we go into next season a little more fancied than we are right now.
Today is all about getting our first real look at life under Dick and getting a glimpse of what to expect from him and the team regards shape effort performance, a point would be brilliant and 3 an unbelievably brilliant start.
My prediction 1 2 unfortunately but I've never been a top match day tipster.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2018 09:40:35
Agreed but that’s why I am a little frustrated with Emery already as I wanted him to revamp the back 5 plus spine completely and use his “getting used” to the EPL” to bed HIS team in. We didn’t need a 25m goalie but we do need a better CD, CM options, Winger and a fullback.
The fullback (34 and a freebie ) is not a great long term solution nor is the centrehalf especially with where Kos is in his career plus Mustafi. I just think he scratched the surface and implemented an OK strategy having clearly identified the issue. That’s not great management and not as decisive as Wenger in his first few years. I will give him time, support and patience but I don’t think he has taken full advantage of the situation and done enough.
If we had 100m - why Dembele and not a world class CD. If we were truly After another - why leave it so late. If we had the funds - get it done. We should have signed an EPL CD.

I am excited and really looking forward to seeing the NEW arsenal under Emery and also just seeing the Arsenal play.

Let’s not undersell ourselves - we’ve got a great attack and added two midfield GEMS that should change us completely in midfield - hopefully we get the real Özil in the new system.

Aubameyang- golden boot ( already put my bet on) . This Guy is awesome and the sort of signing we need at the back.

Hopefully we see

Bellerin, Sokratis, Mustafi, Maitland-Niles

Torreira, Guendouzi

Rambo, Ozil, Mkhitaryan

Aubameyang

COYG! We are all 100% behind you.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2018 10:19:14
I see where your coming from SY mate and if it was me in charge I would have done things differently too but maybe Dick is going to work with the players he has for a season then replace big time once he is fully aware of those he can and can't improve, which would explain the quick fix just for now signings.
To me a keeper wasn't top of the to do list either but it was certainly on the list as Cech wasn't brilliant last season.
There are players I would have let go who Dick has kept on and players like Campbell and Chambers who I would have kept in my squad that Dick has let go but we all see things differently and the most important thing is with Dick we have hope again that things might improve for us however he goes about doing it.
I know you miss Arsene mate but under him we were going nowhere but backwards in the end and just imagine the total apathy there would be surrounding the club again going into this season and more empty seats and a totally negative vibe at Arsenal and totally negative vibe about Arsenal from everyone everywhere.
Change brings hope mate and the club needed both change and some hope desperately because fans been slowly giving up and losing interest in the club for years while others were rapidly drifting away through lack of all and any hope of anything ever changing under Arsene mate.
Arsene is the greatest manager we have ever had beyond doubt but in the end he was making optimism an impossibility for far too many people to find within themselves.
I can't think of a nice way of saying this but in the end Arsene was toxic for Arsenal football club and I know that sounds horrible but it's unfortunately true.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Aug 2018 10:41:26
62 mate - I am more than happy with the change and how the club handled it. Very classy. I don’t miss him - i wanted bigger change once he left.
On the keeper - hindsight could show it’s a steal and genius signing.
Centre halves - we look short on numbers, pace and quality.
Fullbacks - Wellbeck? Really

When I sign up for change - I want to see it. For me changing the personnel is the easier bit than changing our mentality and defensive spine.
I am repeating myself but wanted to stress I don’t miss Wenger ( still admire him ) but I wanted the same decisive change Wenger brought in his first season. We were ruthless on / off pitch and strengthened well in key areas. That’s my yardstick although if we get to the same result ( we’ll balanced competitive team ) in the same timeframe eg like Klopp then job done. 👍.
