Since a DM came in on loan and apparently a few loan bids for strikers were rejected I think it's safe to say that they are two positions garenteed in the summer, hopefully Lars Bender and Deigo Costa.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Which dm came in on loan? Kallestrom is more of a Rambo type player box to box!

Agree0 Disagree0

Ah right'o! I've never seen the guy play and I've been told that he's a DM haha. But nonetheless a midfielder will probably be bought in the summer

Agree0 Disagree0

I hope so mate Arteta has looked a bit out of his depth at some points this season!

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Feb 2014 23:28:16
Right. That was not a team that looked like it could win the league tonight. Giroud is good. But not upto the standard to win us big games. Needs 6 chances every game. Then poles his tongue out as if oh well I tried. Not good enough. Only thing ule be seein next year is the Bench. Ed, please tell me there is that world class striker out there that wenger wants?

Well now you have got that one out of the way you can sit back and look forward to a great game of football at the weekend.

And for all you guys who keep dreaming of seeing Suarez at the Emirates you get your second chance this season.

We let ourselves down when we got beat at the Emirates earlier in the season but we gave a good account of ourselves at Anfield.

We are making mistakes at the back but we are pretty good going forward, I expext that there will be a few goals and we might just edge it.

Anyway here is hoping for a great game and best team to win it. The race for top 4 is more important for us this season so we can afford to just go out and play at the weekend.t

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I honestly think you will beat us at the weekend. We've been in poor form for ages now, just grinding out results against the lesser teams. As soon as we play someone who's decent that static football shows up. Unlike earlier in the season quick passing tempo that beat you at the emirates on November. Good luck, like u said let the best team win

Agree0 Disagree0

Evening Tommy,

Fair points mate. I think it will be a very close game. I think BR will play a strong team but not too sure about Wenger.

Whatever happens it will be a cracker mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Feb 2014 23:22:36
Note to Wenger,

Read the FA rule book. Since 1967 you are allowed to use 3 substitutes per game, not just 1.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I only have one thing to say about your post Dags. NICE ONE!

Agree0 Disagree0

It baffles me why we didn't put in Podolski on the wing. Both Santi and Rosicky were tired and even Giroud could have used a sub.

Agree0 Disagree0

DG that can't be right each side only had 1 sub back in the 70's :)

Ozil looked better tonight but he is not a crab or a rugby passer he plays telling match winning balls FORWARDS, he is having to adapt to, stop, wait, and hope for a run ahead of him. Is he adapting to the pace of the premier league or lack of it in our team on the break?
Ramsey is a much bigger miss than any of us thought possible and yes Olly is struggling big time, but 1pt off the top with 12 to go?
What's to get hysterical about, we are a much improved Arsenal on recent years and this was always a season of proving our self's to be real contenders again, the best is yet to come

Think we dominated the game tonight but were just too nervous at times, understandable.a lot of people slating Giroud but I think he's tried very hard, the goals will come for him again. In my opinion our weak link tonite was Jack Wilshire, he lost a lot of possession in midfield, just didn't seem comfortable collecting the ball from the back four and turning defense into attack, but he, s quality and his game will return soon enough.I feel he is better further up the pitch than alternating with Arteta to come collect and go.Hurry up Rambo and get fit again, if we had his energy tonite we would have won the game.
Looks like there will be some changes in the team for the FA Cup game this weekend. Saving those subs.!
Any of the top four clubs at the moment can win the title so stay positive fellow gunners.Lets win our next two games against Sunderland and stoke and see where the league table puts us.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

That's the spirit!

Would like Giroud and Ozil to score to give them confidence plus we can't rest for the FA Cup as big chance of silverware

Agree0 Disagree0

Wilshire did not have his best of games and did give it away a few times but he still tries to make things happen and always looks for a forward pass or goes on aforward run. Did not happen for him tonight but I still think he is an importnat player for us.

Areata for me is the real weak link he is just too slow on the ball needs too many touches and he very nearly cost us a goal tonight early on. as the DM type you can't afford to be dweling on the ball like he does. Flamini much better in that position for me.

Giroud needs a partner I my book soemone realivly close to him so he has that more constant link for a easy pass off. Not a main leading striker no but as a 2nd striker he is good at what he does.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Feb 2014 22:59:02
Everyone is slagging off Giroud but he played well tonight just didn't finish, something he can improve on! Without him we would struggle in most games, he holds the ball up, competes well in the air and is a physical prescence! Yes I think podolski should get a better run in the team, should have come on tonight, but he can only play LW where Santi plays! He is next to uselless up top because he can't hold it up because he is not strong enough! so in reality I feel Giroud does a good job mainly although can be frustrating but he is vital to this team and without him we would be screwed!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I am sorry, but a team that is supposed to be challenging for the PL title needs a striker who is more than just a physical presence and good in the air (by the way, Giroud really isn't that good in the air). Olly isn't blessed with natural pace, and that's fair enough, but that means that it's absolutely vital that he does finish the chances he gets. And he doesn't.

Agree0 Disagree0

He needs 5-6 chances minimum for a goal simply not goo enough. Imagine if Giroud had scored 1 every 2 chances he would be on double figures at least by now! That is what Suarez gives you, that is what Falcao gives you! We need world class finisher who I think Podolski could be but since Wenger won't give him more than 5 minutes up top we need to buy one!

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Feb 2014 22:31:12
Quote from Wenger>>>

"Podolski is one of the best goalscorers I have ever seen. He is very natural and has a very good left foot".

And you don't play him, why?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'm picking up some negativity there dagenham. All we need is gunner 62 to turn and this site will be one big black hole.
Very good question though.
Flybo

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry Flybo mate,

I know me and G62 are normally the positive ones but tonight was god damn awful.

But hey, on the positive side, we can always win our usual trophy, the 4th place cup, lol.

12 Feb 2014 22:30:21
what do you guys think of Giroud, for me he is a championship player, and those who say he works his shocks off, if I will be paid 40k a week I will also work vert hard but that doesn't mean that I am arsenal standard player, he is useless

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Bit disrespectful saying he's a championship player. He's done extremely well. I. Not saying he's a world beater but he's not a main 25-30 goal a season striker.

Agree0 Disagree0

Giroud is on the same level as Andy Carroll.

Id rather have Ricky Lambert

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Feb 2014 22:28:05
And the debate keeps going on>>>

Giroud?

Now, I have praised this guy time and time and time again.

I love some of the things he does. He leads the line and holds up the ball but I'm getting so pi55ed off with him.

How many chances does he need to find the back of the net? He had 6 good chances, especially the 4th minute header and the 76th minute tap-in.

Am I being harsh? No, because if you play with just 1 man upfront, than that 1 man has to be a goal machine. Sorry, Giroud is more like a washing machine.

Would we be better off with Suarez? yes, we will be about 8 or 9 points clear at the top at this stage.

Aguero? Yes, same as above.

People say he leads the line well and he suits our style of play. Yeah, I get that but so did Thierry.
He lead the line brilliantly and brought in players like Bergkamp, Ljungberg, Pires but the main difference is he also scored 25/30 goals per season.

Like I said, I love Giroud but when you play with 1 up top, you need a lethal goalscorer.

And if he sticks his tongue out one more time I'm going to shove it up his ar5e.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

12 Feb 2014 22:54:06
It had to be said DG,

There was a reason Arsene bid £40 million for Saurez and it wasn't to play him second fiddle to Giroud.

We will be waiting until next season to make a serious challenge.

Arsene unfortunately missed the boat on the players we need to move to the next level.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree Jen

Agree0 Disagree0

For me we missed width today. cazorla and rosicky kept coming in. to make giroud effective he needs to be in the box.

walcott would have put a few crosses in, not a RB sagna as your top crosser.

podolski would have made it too narrow. but I am still puzzled as to why he did not play.

i understand we needed pace with ox, but we should have replaced giroud with poldi too.

look, we are 1 point from the top, 3 points from liverpool, and them coming back into the race only adds more pressure to city and chelsea when they play them.

its not over by a long shot. we just need to pick ourselves up and do one better on sat.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Feb 2014 22:18:36
And the debate continues>>>>>

Ozil? yeah, good player, hhhmmm maybe a great player.

World class? No chance, if he is world class than what is Ronaldo, Messi, Suarez and Aguero?

They must be world world world class.

We did not get this guy from a little known team, we got him from Real Madrid, he should be use to big games against big teams. This guy is an experienced German International so why does he hardly ever show up for Arsenal.

To be fair, I do feel a little sorry for him. He is used to having better players in front of him like Benzema and Ronaldo and Higuain but he doesn't have that luxury at Arsenal.

Sorry, but I don't agree too much with the "he need's time to adjust" theory.
He cost £42m. If I bought a Bentley for £50,000 and it keeps breaking down, I wouldn't be too impressed if the showroom keep saying to me "Well the car needs time to adjust to the roads in England".

Rubbish, it's a supposedly top of the range car and cost me a fortune, it shouldn't break-down at all.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He had no proper per-season and misses Rambo / Theo for pace and runs into the box

He is that type of player who plays for the team

Agree0 Disagree0

Some bentleys do come with problems from new and you need to keep getting them fixed to sort them

look ozil played well. he is not a striker but he made the runs. the striker did not.

he did better than rooney, rvp and mata, so cut him some slack. he showed passion and energy.

it was not to be with missed chances and all that possesion.

utd came to counter us, and sat deep.

its one thing to break down palace but its another with united.

when our defense had the ball, persie was up alone and rooney was all the way at the half way line.

it was evident it was going to be a long night. we almost gifted them a goal, but at the same time we did not take our chances.

we are still in it. perhaps chance to go top has passed, but 12 games and a lot to play for.

Agree0 Disagree0

Fair points Laker

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Feb 2014 22:13:07
2 tough games out of the way and still a point off the top, that will do. Flamini
will be back, Rambo soon after the Sunderland game . still in there

Believable0 Unbelievable0

That will do? You honestly think a trophy is on the cards playing like that?

Agree0 Disagree0

I suppose that is one positive way to look at it, But Utd were there for the taking tonight and yet again Wenger shows his lack of tactical awareness of the opposistion. We were crying out for pace and yes Walcott is out but why were Gnarby and Podolski not used, why was Ox benched.

I would have personally benched Arteta have whilshire deep and keep Ox in the side alongside Cazorla. Drop Oxil for the sake of some pace in Gnarby, he looks bushed anyway. and use Podolski wide left or even rest Giroud and start Podolski in middle. Freshen it up a bit

If we are really going to take the next step and get the hounours we need to start beating the big teams especially at Home.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Feb 2014 22:08:07
Thought we dominated the game and can't believe we did not score. Thought we did enough but poor finishing or final ball. What a cross from Sagna!

That said, RVP should have scored also so probably a fair result.

Ozil put a shift in but really needs Rambo / Theo in team to pick out their runs

Believable0 Unbelievable0

12 Feb 2014 22:06:54
It's not often you see me write a negative post about Arsenal but jeez, that was shocking.

I thought we were trying to win the league?

This Manchester United team, compared to previous teams, apart from their frontline, are absolutely terrible and if we can't beat them, at home, than I'm sorry, we deserve nothing at the end of the season.

Just as well, because that is all we will be winning, nothing.
The manager and players have been banging on about how much they are looking forward to these big games. Really? Well, any chance we can win one of them?

Why have Manchester United been Champions so many times over the past 15 years? Simple, they win the big games, they don't bottle it like we do every time.

Chelsea drew, Man City didn't play, so this was our chance to get back on top of the table, put the pressure on the team's around us and make a statement.

What statement did we make?

So God damn pi55ed off with the way we are playing at the moment and the results. Have been a Gooner for over 40 years but this team just flatter to deceive. Too many under performers and too reliant on Ramsey and Walcott.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I don't think its lack of bottle so much, Just Wenger lack of tactical nous that cost us in big games. Againt the big team you need tactics that expose any weakness in the oppostion.

Utd's defnce ATM are scared of pace and we did not utilse any players with real pace. Yes Walcott is out but why was Gnarby not utilised, why was Ox benched.

Giroud looks out on his feet and we have a fit and fuelled Podolski ready to use and he never really gets used. I am suprised Podolksi has not got really pissed off with this.

Wenger just thinks I must have as many techncial good passers as possibly on the pitch, but a side needs balance it's no good having all these good passers if knowone is making the runs. Walcott and Ramsey do offer those runs so are a big miss no doubt but Wenger does not help the situation.

Utd were there for the taking tonight, I am actually more annoyed in tonights performance than the Liverpool game because that you can just right off as just a bad day at the office with coceeded those early goals we were caught cold.

Agree0 Disagree0

Good analysis Ryan, totally agree.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Feb 2014 22:06:34
we should have won this game! but its not over yet, we are still in the blend.

Giroud was not up to the required standard today, a quality back up striker would have been nice.
our dear Jack was also a bit sloppy today, gave away the ball too much. Ozil, Cazorla, Rosicky and King Sczcney (forgive my spellings) were good today. these three along with Wilshere created loads of chances which should have been utilized by Giroud. its not like I'm against Giroud but I think vidic kept him quiet, didn't let him do much.
A fully fit Ramsey will be very much appreciated at this time of the season, so get well soon rambo!
Come on you lads, win us a trophy this season.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

12 Feb 2014 21:55:49
Same tactics and formation from wenger. Same time of substitution. It isn't working. What a surprise. Hopefully his last season

Believable0 Unbelievable0

12 Feb 2014 21:55:31
That game was like watching paint dry, and I feel like a stuck record. Giroud, had the beating of Vidic early on yet was totally useless in front of goal in big games every chance high and wide, then he spends an ages hands on hips or poking his tongue out, he is great against teams like West Ham, and you can't fault his heart and work rate but he is simply not good enough to lead the line of a team wanting to win the premier league.

Why wasn't there any pace in the team? It's pointless having Ozil and Cazorla out there without anyone making runs and dragging the defence around. Wenger was useless everyone in the world knew Chamberlain should have started, both Vidic and Evra are ancient and have been vulnerable to pace all season. And if he chooses not to start him why was he introduced so late? Why wasn't Podolski the 100+ cap German player who Wenger keeps saying is the best finisher at the club not brought on when we need a goal, totally insulting to a player of his quality. Arteta is passed it made a mistake almost gifting RVP and then did nothing to slow, its sad as he was such an important part of the team but we need to replace him.

We have won 1 of our last 14 meeting against United, and frankly this season we should have won both the better team at Old Trafford and the home team against a struggling team tonight. Simply not good enough, any team that wants to win the league has to beat the other top teams and we simply don't this has gone on season after season, there are no excuses anymore these players have played enough games to know what to do. I'm thoroughly frustrated, but can't say I'm shocked when I saw the starting 11, and how we've played against the other big teams over the past few years.

Chelsea and City both dropped points, and with City game being postponed was perfect chance to go out and make a statement after the Liverpool game. Getting really tired of everyone saying the same things after we play United, City, Chelsea etc and nothing changing. We have to beat Liverpool in the FA Cup now no excuses.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

12 Feb 2014 21:55:29
We could and should have won the game. Wenger cost us:

1. Giroud looks rubbishty. I am sorry but I don't know how holding up the ball is an attribute. Strikers should score goals. He doesn't do that. He has no pace and no skill and when he does get chances, he messes it up

2. Use the f***ng substitutes. For Pete's sake. Podolski should have gotten a run

3. TR7 was playing really well. Why take him out?

4. We are the only top 4 team without a clinical striker. I am sorry but I think no defenders are afraid of Giroud

Believable0 Unbelievable0

12 Feb 2014 21:54:43
Giroud is good enough for a championship side not us, pathetic player, needs 101 chances to score a goal, hold up play my as* . Another thing I have realised today is that the reason we don't win against so called big teams is because of Arsene, he is a coward. Where was Podolski, gnabry . Didn't know that only one sub was allowed in a football match . One more thing evident is that Podolski will be gone in summer. Really fustrated gooner.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

12 Feb 2014 21:54:04
what is this block we have against united? our record against them is shocking. it was understandable a few years ago but with their current form the fact we cannot even get a goal in 2 games is so poor.

we just look limp right now. we are still up there but if we keep playing with this impotence we won't get anything from this season.

but hey, chin up eh

Believable0 Unbelievable0

12 Feb 2014 21:51:31
We are in desperate need of pace!

Wenger should have signed, this may cost us big time.

Very disappointed with Wilshere, continually gives the ball away.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

That was what we lacked more than anything tonight, there was no real pace no threat in behind. Walcott and Ramsey both badly missed as they actually are prepared to run on to try and get in behind. Too many ball players not enough runners same old story makes it too easy to defend as everthing is in front of you.

Podolski and Gnarby need to utilised a lot more espcially with Walcott out.

Agree0 Disagree0

We all know he should have signed, but he know old Wenger and his philosophy."can we find anyone better than what we have". eehh yes there is but will wanna be paying for it. he's waiting for the summer, when kicks in and some clubs will be clearing their books and players fees will not be as much. mark my words guys.

i hate clattenberg.

no real reason but I just think he gets tonnes of calls wrong and is happy about it.

also the only referee to wear 80's style cheek blusher make up.

now onto our team.

anyone else think we played tonight like a fifa player who'd just learn how to 1-2 the ball?

redonkulous if you ask me. there was a breif spell in the second half 72-82ish mins where we were having a couple of cracks on goal, and my spirit lifted. but other than that it looks like we are playing arsenal f.c vs 'charity team x' no need to try here boys.
as much as i'd like to say 'yeh well utd are like that atm, a charity team har har har. ' they deserve more respect than that.

Scezh did well

Gibbs proved to everyone why this page is raving about his performances, looked like a winger when he needed to and a wing back when he needed to.

midfield, arteta needs to start playing with sanogo, and before you question my sanity, I mean in our reserve team, Arteta is a great player, for a top 4 side. For a Championship winning side he isn't good enough.

ozil in todays game vs ozil in the liverpool one. WOW is he the same player?
against the scousers he did some fairly nice runs and touches and stuff but that was it, tracked back once or twice. Tonight he was brilliant, got nothing to show for it, but deffinately one of our best 6 players.

ox didn't really feature tonight, but seems to be keeping up with positioning well, rosicky was a bit frustrated and spooned some nice balls.

and finally olly, well olly was beaten the sheet out of by vidic tonight, like some of the blatent heavy handed tackles agasint him were plain to see, thuggish league 2 defending works. if you get away with it and here we are again back round to my first point.

Mark Battenburgs refereeing is as good as his make up artist.

p.s if you look like a players long lost brother you shouldn't be allowed to officiate their games! is he lolo's relative?!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

GoonerInk, that post cracked me up, lol

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Feb 2014 21:49:39
Yes guys, I totally agree - we're lacking on pace and someone or two running in behind the defence. So frustrating. Giroud couldn't hit the target once which is not good enough. Don't get me wrong he played decent and worked hard for the badge again as he always does so respect for that. However, again his hold up play is decent but he needs to mix it up. He needs to realise not to keep trying first time layoffs every time. Sometimes he should try and turn or take a touch and go sideways or just hold it a for a second or two so that the midfielders can support. He can't just keep playing tippy tappy layoffs in the general direction of the player who has just passed to him. He isn't a ping pong lever or just shouldn't be every time. Hopefully he'll sharpen this up. Maybe it is nerves or trying too hard.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

12 Feb 2014 21:48:18
someone needs to sit wenger down and exploan to him playing the same tactics every game of every season has gotten tired! we need a change of tactics!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

12 Feb 2014 21:47:17
Enjoyed the last 30 mins and thought we looked the good in it.

Also thought Ozil looked a bit more confident tonight and Szczesney outstanding.
Yes there are problems and breaking fast then having to stop and go side ways because of no options ahead was the most obvious one.

Olly is a 100% man every time but he does need resting more and more as time passes

Believable0 Unbelievable0

12 Feb 2014 21:46:58
Don't know about you guys but our inability to beat the big teams is really starting to annoy me.

Wilshere and Arteta made their best effort to lose the ball and slow the game down whenever possible.

Giroud, despite his height, still couldn't direct a header anywhere near the goal.

Ozil, again, failed to stamp his class on the game.

Cazorla was decent and you felt that, if we were to score, it would be him to do it.

Defensively pretty sound - Szczesny was solid.

Over the last two years, we have taken 4 out of a possible 30 points against City, Chelsea and United.

We will never win the title with a stat like that. Simple as.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Arteta I am not fussed with to be honest like you say he slows the play down to much and takes too many touches when he is the starting fulcrum of our attacks really like Gerrard would be for Liverpool.

Certinaly not a starter for me.

I know wilshire did give the ball away a few times tonight but he does try and make things happen and is prepared to run at players.

Pace iand penatration was what we lacked too many ball players not enough runners to get in behind which has been common theme for some time really.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Feb 2014 21:46:55
0 - 0 against possibly the worst Man U team for a very long time.
Our plays all look jaded and are lacking inventiveness and inspiration.
I was upbeat this morning, but now I can see us struggle against Liverpool and Bayern.
Ozil's confidence is draining fast. Giroud is really a back up striker.
We didn't get behind Man U defence to turn them around, no enough urgency in our game until last 15 mins.

We must get over this phobia when we play big teams, as we don't believe that we can we these games.

A disappointed Gooner!

Verdict.
Tactics - WRONG.
needed pace against this ageing team. Waste of time playing 4 no.10s

Back 5
Pretty much faultless.

Arteta.
Alright, nothing special.

Wilshere.
Poor. Gave ball away way too much, not for the first time. Over ran it endlessly. That being said his team mates didn't help him out and never really got themselves in any decent positions.

Rosicky.
Hit and miss, pretty ineffective.

Cazorla.
Played better after 70mins. Up to that, meh.

Ozil.
Best player but had no one to ying his yang. Players need to move about for him to find them. Whenever he got the ball everyone aroung him stood still, it was a waste of time.

Giroud.
Terrible. He had the opportunities to score and didn't.
Just like against Chelsea, 4 points dropped against our direct rivals as a direct consequence of him being total turd. It's not his fault, the manager should have bought a decent centre forward but didn't.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

12 Feb 2014 21:44:28
Well that's no bloody good! Why can't we beat united, why??

We need a clinical finisher, Giroud had plenty chances tonight but failed to convert. Yes his work rate is impressive but on a night like tonight to convert.

Why on earth was Podolski left on the bench?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

12 Feb 2014 21:44:20
Pathetic

Absolutely pathetic

Big match. We don't score

Giroud, 4 chances missed. 4

1 sub used

I hope City and Chelsea make us pay, do we even want to win? timid, afraid and lazy

Shezza, incredible. Defensive duo, hats off.

And to the Ozil haters, just who the hell is he supposed to pass it to when Giroud does more standing up and posting up that a forward does in basketball?

We should have destroyed them. Instead they had the better chances, all 3 off of mistakes

Arteta is too slow. Giroud is awful. How many more open headers he misses horribly wide are we to look at that stupid face he makes. "Oh I should have scored" No rubbish you loser, and we should be running away w the league

Instead we look like a neutered bull, fighting the last thing on our mind

Arsene, you've got Gnabry and Poldi, so you play the slowest team possible against a defense badly lacking in pace.

Kudos on a pathetic coaching job today. Thanks for showing up.

Team of losers who settle for draws, what ambition!

We are satisfied drawing to a mid level team, is essentially what happened today. Great stuff!

First question, why did wenger only make 1 change? And bringing off Rosicky who was the only player showing pace and meaning with the ball. To bring on the ox who he claims to be the nect big thin at CM. And leaves Arteta on. Then to have Podolski and Sanogo on the bench when Giroud misses 2 or 3 golden opportunities.

Ozil played much better but I think he's still capable of so much more. Hats off to Merts as Kos though for keeping Van persie and Rooney quiet. And Shez showed just how good he really is.

In contrast disappointed with the result, but quietly relieved.

Well 0-0 and on balance the fair result really close chance for RVP good save for Schenzy and Kos header cleared off line was the closest to a goal.

pressured in the end without creating a real good clea chance.

The lack of pace was what killed us . Giroud worked his socks off yet again but is out on feet. I don't undertsand why Wenger does not utilise Podolski and Gnarby more really.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

12 Feb 2014 21:40:01
Going to have to learn to beat the big teams if we want big prizes. Going to need a new striker or two as well. No pace what so ever in that team and that is truly worrying.

Also, what were we doing at the end there? 92 mins, free kick, chance to put it in the box and we pi$$ about with it as per usual and lose the ball and United keep the ball till the game ends.

There's time for passing football and there's time to go long into the box.

12 Feb 2014 21:38:45
If we had a striker we'd be lethal. A big opportunity missed tonight.

Man Utd are poor and were there for the taking.

Its really srarting to grate in me the lack of faith wenger has in pold and the rest of the bench giroud a looks like he can barley walk last 10 mins why not freshen it up a bit
wonder why we get some many ingurys ill be intrestaed to see who has used the least number of subs this season rekon we are top by a country mile

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agree I don't understand it either Wenger rarely makes good use of the bench in my opinion he tends to just make a couple of subs about the same time each game just for the sake of it rather than making subs to try and change things positivly in the game. Baring injury when was the last time Wenger made a tactical sub at half time Why wait till 75Mins?

I don't know what Podolski has done to Wenger but for me he is far better in that left position than Carzorla who should be more central.

Wenger just seems to think he must play all the most technical smaller players rather than getting the right balance for the side as whole.

We badly lacked pace tonight and I wouldl have also liked to see Gnarby given a game.

Giroud looks out on his feet he being asked to carry the front line battle on his own

Agree0 Disagree0

Clubs best finisher as wenger states yet there he sits week after week, i'd have giroud on shooting and heading practise after tonight, I have a feeling he couldn't score in a br*thel with a fist full of £50 notes, I count 6 chances none particularily easy but at least work the keeper, i'm wondering if he needs glasses, another missed opportunity in my eyes I think they were there for the taking

frustrated as saturday but for different reasons I guess at least we showed up for this

Believable0 Unbelievable0

12 Feb 2014 20:44:03
You can see Ozil getting a bit frustrated that no-one runs behind the defence for him to slip it through for them.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Don't blame him, how Giroud has lasted the 90 mins I will never know.what the hell has Podolski done to Wenger.
Ozil is use to playing with more intelligent/technical players.
They were there for the taking, I'm more annoyed tonight than I was Saturday.

Agree0 Disagree0

Thank you

Because we have a striker more interested in hold up play than making runs and shooting on goal

Also because when he does get shots they are woefully awful

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree! with ozil and the co we need a type of striker who takes regular runs, Giroud's style of play doesn't complement the three players behind him. he should adopt accordingly!

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Feb 2014 20:40:27
gotta say Giroud is getting the better of vidic but damn he's be proper pony infront of goal, wide wide high and wide, don't know how many opportunities he's going to need

don't get me wrong I love the guy but its like he's trying to hard or got serious nerves

Believable0 Unbelievable0

And yet again more missed opportunities, wenger get your cheque book out we need options upfront, and a world class striker to beat the supposed top 4 teams

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Feb 2014 20:39:58
0-0 Half time, we are really lacking pace without Walcott. Wenger shoudl bring on Gnarby to add some pace. It just too conjested in midfield. A lot of passing without getting very far really. Manchester United are kind of the same also lacking pace.

But in all seriousness and bullet proof Tony aside I have a terrible feeling of 1-2 tonight.
Our feelings are based on nothing more than a terrible sense of them being our bogie we haven't been able to reach for 9 years and I was totally convinced it was finally going to get picked at old Trafford earlier in the season
But it has to come out eventually.

Well as GOLDBOY returns I shall be leaving at the weekend for a trip to the country. I'm fortunate because I'm going to a place with a lovely sea view. Which is a surprise because it's 20 miles in land.

It's such a shame seeing things that people love so much sinking before your eyes, but they believe in the manager and given him a six year contract so they may as well just get on with it.

It's always the was with us. We struggle against united, and if we were able to beat them tonight we still can't say we've beaten a top 4 team.

So Phillip Schofields back in town tonight. He's scored three in three against us. So not only is he disloyal, he's also greedy. Horrible individual!
The little boy inside told him to move to united. Now there are murmurings that the little boy has grown up in to a teenager, and may want to come back.
It was bound to happen. Your wants and wishes change as you get older. When I was a little boy I wanted to be a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle. 20 years on I find myself doing 12 hour shifts slogging my guts out on minimum wage as a Power Ranger. Mum says I should grow up, but I just tell her to shut up and get me my Sugar Puffs.

Three points please Arsenal. See you on the other side

Tonight is Big! We all know that, it's massive for our confidence in so many ways. The three points and top of the league is massive but even bigger is the confidence the lads will get if they beat Manchester United and send them back North with nothing and 17 points behind the top of the league - Arsenal!

C'mon Arsenal!

Strong ref needed tonight - I expect them to pick a strong central mid pair, if not 3, with instructions to "get amongst us" - aka give us a kicking. Ref needs to stamp this out early.

Get a win here and that's 2 of our tough games out of the way. Still everton & spurs away, as well as chelsea and Man city, but if we are top again tonight then that's a huge lift.

I hope Rosicky starts tonight, I've got a really good feeling about him in this match.
This utd complex has to end sometime and tonight is the perfect night for it to happen.

Jupiter is inline with mercury and mars is just coming out of its neutral phase, which has to be good news as we have never lost to any team starting with m at home on a Wednesday night in the first half of February in a year ending with a 4 when this planetary action has been at its height.
Reason to be totally confident 7452, fingers crossed

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Got a feeling for Rosicky tonight too G62. He has been awesome this season especially when he has started. He will bring some much needed directness back into our game that we've missed with Rambo running off Ozil. Hope he starts or comes off the bench and opens them up.

We need to take it to them they will sit back as always and try and hit us on the break. We need to be disciplined but hungry. I want to see the side that played against Napoli in the first match first touch passing, beautiful movement, and winning the ball back within seconds of losing it. We are the better team and we need to show it. I predict a 3-1 win.

hello gooners,
i have been a regular reader on this site and can proudly say we have the best fans among these posts.
coming on to arsenal, I ever knew this situation was coming.even though we won our last few games but still that charisma was missing which arsenal is being known for, too sloppy in possession, no quick passing, and if we score we wait for something to happen and we are missing the quality of killing games.we need to turn this around asap.we are still in the mix for tittle but long way to go, so let's get behind the team, because even we win or loose, we will always support this great club.
secondly, all these media and pundits are always agaisnt us.we lost our first game of season and eveyone was laughing at us.fair enough but now when we are still up there, no one is giving us the credit where its due.city or chelsea will nick it in the end but I will still be proud becuase no team in EPL can fight for the tittle with so many injuries.take Hazard and aguero out of chelsea and city for 6 months and let's see where they stand.

Today feels like FA Cup final morning [remember them]. I've clocked off work early, "an emergency appointment".
Quick change of clothes, hope I packed my farrahs and white socks, then away we go.
Come kick off time with pockets full of betting slips, belly full of beer and the aroma of eau de burger following me around, I will be in Arsenal Heaven.
As my headmaster used to say "it will be tight".

This is part of the post I made on 9.2.14.

'Since we went top after the home loss to villa no other team has held the top spot for more than 1 week. and are then replaced by us'.
Chelsea tripped over Mourinhos big mouth

Yes there is pressure on us to beat Manchester United tonight. and I believe the team will do it. I think it also helps that none of the so called experts give us a chance to win the league. the real pressure is on Chelsea and Man City and I can see them slipping up against more of the smaller teams. we have addressed that problem this season. but we must find the mental strength to believe that we can beat the bigger teams

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Absolutely right Highbury Old Timer. It's amazing how top teams are slipping up. But it's easy to forget that this does happen. 3 years ago Utd won with 80 points, before that Chelsea with 86. Even with the slip-ups, all 3 top clubs still have decent chances of breaching 85 points. But probably only one will get that far - and we still have a decent chance of being that team.

I like Wenger's insistence on just focusing on ourselves and looking to do our best every game. Obviously it's hard to tell where that came into Saturday's performance, but it is the attitude we'll need to be in it until the end.

After today our PL run eases up a bit. If we can win and get the confidence to do the job against Sunderland, Stoke and Swansea, we'll go into the next death run (Spurs, Chelsea, City) with as good a chance as anyone.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes after that next tough fixture patch you mention Oleg we've got it easy its only Everton away :-)
But in all seriousness lads very good posts.
Even allowing for not beating utd spurs ciy Chelski or Everton, we can get close to the 80 point mark avoiding banana skin games.
But chuck in a couple of wins and draws from the big matches and we won't be far off the 85 you mentioned

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Feb 2014 10:40:54
tonight is a test for arsenal, we have had the wind knocked out of our sails on the weekend and now its about character and having the fight to beat a united team who are always up for it against us.
we should be focused and show passion tonight, win every tackle, be first to every ball, concentrate for the full match and control the game. there is no room for carrying anybody on the pitch, just show some confidence, and don't give the opposition any respect and show that killer instinct to kill off the game. its obvious we are a very good team, we can destroy teams when we show desire and tonight and every other game till the end of the season has to be like that.
I don't want to see any hugging and kissing before the match with the opposition, back slapping and changing shirts at half time, (that can wait until the end of the game when we have beaten them), I want a team focused that's going to go out and repay the fans back for their poor, dismal performance on the weekend.

we have been given another opportunity with Chelsea drawing, everyone is feeling the pressure so let's capitalise on it.

come on you gunners, get the 3 points and stick it up the doom mongers!

So, here we go, another big match, the fates have thrown the dice again, a win and we go back top, what a strange season.

Media dislike of AFC.

It would appear no-one outside of the club ( media primarily ) likes Arsenal, BT sport for instance, they have Michael Owen commentating, good impartial, objective commentary then. no!
Match of the Day
hmmm, well, plenty to say there, most of it libellous, so, I won't say anything, but the faithful out there know what I mean.
Printed ephemera
Choose any of the red tops, and that other out-house rag the DM, subjective hatred most of the time, I just don't get it, the latter seeming to ignore the fact we have been top for 130 odd days, they have run with stories about the other top 4 team for that majority for that time, and our newsworthy stories have appeared mid page. is it just me?

My thoughts about tonight, recent history ( the last 9 years) would seem to favour and indicate we're screwed!
We going to bottle it. again.
However, Man United are not the same unit under Mr Moyes, RVP (B'std) throwing his dummy out of the cott again, Shrek will raise his game, Mata is a danger, the rest. not Man u quality under Moyes, let's be honest.

The bounce back factor.
I feel, I believe, I hope, we will rebound from the drubbing L'pool gave us, i'd like to see a huddle before the game, a bit of solidarity, an outward display to the fans.

Form AFC
We score so far this season on average, 1.8 goals when at home
Conceding 0.5, on average
Form MU
They score 1.9 goals away on average
Conceding 1.6 goals away on average.

Considering the above ( for what its worth) a narrow win to us, that noted, the same could have been said pre the L'pool game,
2-1

The morning of what is the biggest game of our season. Psycologically to beat a team like ManUtd, all be it their not in the best position of their lives, would be huge. A real belief that we can beat these top teams is needed for the next 6 weeks. A defeat or even to an extent a draw and the "mental strengh" Wenger repeats week in week out will be dented.
The criticism of Ozil I feel is a little harsh. Yes he lacks any real defensive responsibility but I think there are 2 greater reasons. 1- he's knackered. The pace of the premier league is taking its toll. Every week here requires 100% energy and concentration. For Madrid he could get away with playing at 70-80% against most opposition. And 2- at arsenal he has very good players around him. At Madrid he had excellent players plus a few that are world class.
He's not a daft bloke. I'm sure he's seen/heard the poor reviews and doubt thrown his way. Let's hope its wound him up to show his class and ability tonight.
Looking forward to the game and hoping for a win. A defeat and the crowd response won't be pretty.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Its a season defining game in many ways

Agree0 Disagree0

Reading reports today that ozil is struggling with confidence and the pressure of his price tag, and the players who feed off him, cannot respond to the task at hand.

this game today is not going to be our best, if the team is performing the way it is. let's just hope we can do something.

the pressure is more on us, rather than man utd. most of their players seem content with their seeding, and are literally playing for their new prospective clubs.

With City & Chelsea dropping points against Norwich & WBA, the effect of the defeat against Liverpool won't be as dire as first thought, particularly if we can beat United tonight and go back top. I believe the run in will take a toll on City, as they are still in four competitions. Whilst Chelsea are in 3 competitions and are most likely of the top three to progress in the Champions League. The FA Cup match where City play Chelsea, will also take its toll on the teams. As for Arsenal, in reality we are unlikely to progress past Bayern in the CL, which could be a blessing in disguise. The FA Cup is a difficult one, as elimination would reduce the matches we need to play, keeping the squad fresher for the run in. However, I have a funny feeling we will beat Liverpool on Sunday, which would be a huge boost for our confidence. So let's get behind the team tonight and drive them on to success, we need to play our part and make the emirates an intimidating stadium to visit.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agree Robbie,

This will definatley show us if we have got what it takes to go all the way this season. It is now in our hands(maybe feet) again.

I am hoping our midfield turn up tonight, if they do we will over run their average quality midfield, I believe they have not got the all round pace that destroyed us against Liverpool

DAGENHAM, JENNY, G62, FLYBO, and all my other mates. Right! I go away for a week and find a bar on Saturday in Egypt to watch the errr match thinking you guys have got it all in control like I asked. and what happens? not only we go behind by 4 goals in 20 minutes but there were six people in this bar 4 of them Liverpool fans with one woman screaming like a banshee every time the ball went in the net.! I kept my head down made out I was going on a trip after the 5th goal and left. Next time everyone make sure things are in order it spoilt my day. LOL. I'm not being funny here but did you see wenger when interviewed about van persie? Smiling not ruling anything out. Why not rule it out as he knows how much hate the fans have for him?
But no, he's smirking as if he thinks he's can bring him back. I would not be surprised if wenger tried, he does what he wants and doesn't care what anyone thinks in the process, maybe this is wengers plan all along for the summer. Him as our answer to our world class striker the one who he sold 2 years earlier! Nothing suprises me anymore.
