I think the prize was a balloon as his ego is overinflated.

Sanchez may prove to be the best signing we have ever made, yes his ability and goals are invaluable this season but the most important thing is that work rate and effort.
Carzola is back to his best and working like never before Ox to be fair was already there on the work front as was Welbeck but some others need to take notice, theirs a new Sheriff in town and he don't take kindly to critters with a lazy kinda nature, no siree

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - tell it to that varmint ozil..

He's against henry tho. He'll be top10 with ease probs top5. Henry veira tho. Campbell on a free etc

Agree0 Disagree0

He's forming a posse judge Ed and any slackers will be strung up for the towns folk to spit their chewing bacca on, pa ting, to good for em if ya ask me pardner

I'm worried about you G62 :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

Me too Dags mate :-) you still ride sidesaddle cowboy?

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd say he's been sipping too much bootleg liqueur

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - moonshine you mean cowboy..

Yeah that's the stuff

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jan 2015 22:42:35
I love wearing cowboy lingerie.

The silky bra's are on me.

Agree0 Disagree0

Mertesacker can deffinately do the Indian rain dance, he's got the moves I've seen the pose a couple of time already :-) :-)

That's actually quite funny Dags :-) no it really is

Top top player who works his socks off.

Goes into training an hour before everybody else and stays behind an hour when everybody goes home.

Well deserved award for the best player on the planet.

12 Jan 2015 22:48:13
Lol, you could be right Derby.

Agree0 Disagree0

True true. Ronaldo is fantastic. 203 goals in 181 appearances for Real Madrid at a strike rate of 112%. That is unreal!

Well done CR7

It may just be me but when Ospina plays we seem far more assured at the back.

Thoughts?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Ask again after ther next 4 games. Personally I don't think two games against average sides at home tell us too much.

Agree0 Disagree0

He's small for a goalie. Time will tell. Looms decent. I'd keep him and sell the smoker

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - smokers are people too you know!..

Eds lol.

Ospina is a top keeper.

He hasn't been tested yet, Sunday will tell us a lot.

Agree0 Disagree0

Felt much more secure with Ospina between the sticks. I am generally not a fan of short keepers, but he is definitely a better option than immature Szczesny, whose demeanour on the nech against Stoke was shocking, slumped back in his seat, like a 15 year old. He needs to grow up fast and work hard on all aspects of his game or run the risk of becoming another Bendtner.

Agree0 Disagree0

Im told a lot of people at the club don't like him robbie. he walks around like he's worlds number 1.

his dad comparing mertesacker to a rhino. harsh on a rhino there top speed is very fast

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - thats probably not true...but you know what they say...theres no smoke without szczesny.. :)

Plus a rhino wouldn't duck either

Going back to the conversation regarding Özil and Wilshire earlier, I would sell jack in a heartbeat and keep Özil. Probably won't be a popular opinion.

Why keep Jack? He has a handful of decent games, if not moments, per season. With his injury record to go with that and the wages he commands, he'd be one of the first to go if I was in charge.

As ED25 pointed out earlier, Özil doesn't want to be here but there's no doubt that he is world class. Would you be happy coming from one of the best teams in the world to a, let's be honest, very mediocre team? Even though he hasn't been fantastic he still has something like an assist every two games (I may be totally wrong). If Wenger goes with Sanchez, Walcott and Giroud with Özil in the middle we'll see an entirely different player from what we've seen in the past.

Personally, I'd sell Jack while we can still get a few bob for him. The question is who'd take him?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - the thing is NEG, if ozil is not 100% behind the team then i say get shut, with the money from his sale the real issues could be addressed, namely a CH, and a DM, there is no room for prima-donnas mate..

Ed - every comment I see from Ozil shows he is behind the team, in the papers, twitter etc, look for big things from him in 2015.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i would love to be wrong rooster, but only time will tell mate..

I honestly believe wilshere Is one of our prised assets, he's about the only player in our team (minus Sanchez and maybe Kos) that literally gives every inch he can, I know he has his injuries but that's because he goes all in to tackles, you watch videos of him and then watch videos of ozil playing for arsenal then tell me you'd drop jack in a heartbeat. Obviously that's my own opinion and I respect your opinion kind sir, I just don't agree with it haha ;-)

Agree0 Disagree0

Love Jack to bits, Gooner through and through, but if Koeman offered us spyder for Jack, I would bite his hand off.

Needs must, as they say.

Agree0 Disagree0

JW is massively over rated and I'd cash in on him in a heartbeat. When he plays he rarely contributes anything. I don't really see where he fits into a 4231 formation anyway? Really he'd have to play as one of the 2 and for me Ramsay is def a better option. Would JW get a game for any of our competitors, likely not? Now think how many of our rivals would want an Ozil in their team.

Yes I agree he is a luxury player and his work rate is questionable but remember what his role in the team is, he is there to create opportunities for others. If he creates opportunities and does very little else, I can live with that. I am sure the blueprint was always to have Ozil at No10 with Giroud up top and pacy players on either side (similar model to RM) and now we have that I cannot wait to see him win his spot back in the team.

What do you think of the TOTY?
David Luiz is in there. Why?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Personally don't see di Maria either. Still does it really matter, no not reallý.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jan 2015 23:00:55
Ridiculous.

Hummel's instead of Luiz.

And, don't know why Di Maria and Iniesta are there and not Gareth Bale.

Following on from Steve's post below, in boxing terms we are the Frank Bruno of football.
We can land a punch better than most and very few can bob and weave like us and on a good day we can show boat with the best, but we have a glass jaw.
Everyone knows it but not all are capable of exposing it on a regular basis but all the big boys who are capable of withstanding a flury of jabs know they will land the KO blow at some point quite often last season in the first the first round.
We have to protect that jaw until we can fix it properly with some very good surgery

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Good analogy but i'd have said bomber graham.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - does that make spurs..richard dunn?..

Ed that's a bit rough on poor old Richard Dunn. He was far better than spurs.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - ok steve...dave boy green then..

Tim Withouterspoon or Tony Teletubbs would be more apt for them

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - its been a long time since they were heavyweights G62.. :)

In only 52 Ed so have no memories of a spurs title challenge, I remember my great great grandad telling me something about it while teaching me how to hide my tooth under my pillow to get a tanner from the Easter Bunny, he used to tell a lot of stories though so I still hide my tooth every Easter but I ain't fooling for that other nonsense

Agree0 Disagree0

Question is, are we the Frank Bruno from his boxing days, or the mad as a bag of cut snakes Frank Bruno from his standing in the middle of Stonden Massey village wearing a dress whilst trying to direct traffic days??

My take on Yaya Sonogo, he has made 11 appearances for Arsenal in 2 years yet he gets so much criticism. He doesn't make the bench and isn't close to our first team but there so much hate towards him. If he was playing every match, if he was constantly putting in bad performances, if he was stopping players getting into the first team then I would totally understand.

Yes he is extremely raw and no way ready for first team football but he is a young kid, give him break.

For arguments sake just watch the FA cup against Wigan and tell me he didn't make a difference? we were so bad in that game until Sonogo came on. Tell me that he didn't work his socks off againts Bayern when we went down to 10 men. Tell me he was really awful against Liverpool in the FA cup.

He had one bad match against Leicester where he missed ONE chance and everyone is criticizing him.

I'm not saying he should be a first team regular, I'm not saying he going to be world class, i'm not saying we need to hail him. But getting shot down after 11 appearances, not even playing or making the bench is a bit harsh for me.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

People shouldn't judge a player so quickly, you are right, give the kid a break, he has never come on and hid either.

Agree0 Disagree0

Scores for fun in the French U21s. .

Agree0 Disagree0

He's an easy target because he cost nothing and currently lacks a bit of fitness (which is probably why he cost nothing) but in 11 games he's put in more of a shift than Poldolski has in his whole career.
Perhaps he should go on twotter and say nice things about us, he could be as poor As he liked then people would forgive him anything

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - good stuff G62..

It wasn't sanogo s fault he came into the team, because the striker we have wasn't hacking it, it wasn't his fault he was thrust into the team early because of squad depth, it wasn't his fault, that maybe he hasn't been given time to get used to the step up. It would be nice to think he can go to another prem club and play and progress like jenko. The lad has talent, but his level has not been found yet.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - fair point steve..

In a perfect world, with Nastajic going to Schalke, Howedes is now available.

Although I HIGHLY doubt it.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

My only worry is he isn't the quickest. if him and per are together could be a worry. loves his attitude tho

If we are considering a big money signing I would love it to be Morgan Schneiderlin, Southampton would miss him more than any other player but I would love to know what sort of financial position they are in, in the last few seasons they have sold a lot of players for big money and signed some real bargains.

I know the ed's don't like to discuss finances on here so I won't hold my breath, but I wonder what sort of offer it would take, if any amount.

For me, Morgan Schneiderlin and Winston Reid would make me very happy.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - for me reid is average 337, hes better than per but thats not saying much, spyder would cost big money i imagine mate, my guess would be in the £25m range..

I just think Reid would fit our style of play, and TBH I can't think of any top class CB's that would be available to come to us, plus I know AW will never pay big money for a CB.

As for Schneiderlin, £25m would be a bargain right now.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - for me 337 van dijk would be a better shout, he would cost more than reid, but imo is a far better player..

25mill well spent eds

cant see wenger signing a player to start centre back. most likely a bench player to fill in :(

Agree0 Disagree0

Cant see Southampton letting Schneiderling go for any amount, particulary in January, and especially to a rival for the Champions league spot. They have ambitions to make the top 4, so selling a player even for £30m to a team that will replace them in the CL spot would be financial suicide. if they qualify for the CL, which is more likely if they keep their players, they will earn that £30 mil anyway, and still have Schneiderling to keep of flog for £30 anyway. If he was your asset, what would you do?

Agree0 Disagree0

337 you might be right about them missing him, but they whooped us without him.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think they'd sell schneiderlin until the summer window, where I think if he is still after a move and they haven't qualified for the CL then they will consider selling.
Like Ed25 I would prefer van dijk to reid, but since it's january I'd gladly take either.

Agree0 Disagree0

Epping, they may feel their achievements for this season are a success, remember they lost so many players last year they were struggling to put out a 5 a side team, they may feel that staying in the EPL is their achievement this season. Also bare in mind they also have other top quality midfielders and may find a large offer attractive, who knows until you try?

Steve, my point exactly they were able to beat us without him because they are strong in midfield talent, I'm going to call them and offer £25m :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

337 I would think saints expectations for this season have risen greatly. i'm not sure he will be going anywhere this window. i'm not sure wenger is clever enough to do a man u on Southampton, re rvp.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jan 2015 13:42:31
A question for you all. Why do pundits, oppossing players and managers say, we know how to stop arsenal and we know their weaknesses.?. They don't say that about chelski, citeh, man u and even now Southampton. They constantly go on about our weaknesses. Why us and not them. By the way it isn't a witch hunt or a conspiracy, its bloody true and its been going on for years.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Good point steve.r - I don't heat them say they know how to stop Sanchez though ;-)) Maybe its because he is more physical and direct, we could us more of that, the Ox is getting closer and Ramsey has moments.

Agree0 Disagree0

We don't fix our problems. chelsea needed a dm got matic. needed a striker got costa. city have signed many players of a good standard, saints have two defensive minded midfielders in the centre

also koeman thinks about tactics so does jose. pelle seems to let him team play but there mostly world class and a have a better team shape

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jan 2015 14:08:33
Of course it's a witch hunt, why else would you bring it up, especially within hours of Ronald Koeman so publicly stating how he played against Uniteds weaknesses.

Every manager for every game has a plan, Pardew worked one out for Chelsea, it's football, that stuff happens.

You can try and paint it any way you like, you are having yet another pop at Wenger.

No need to hide that fact ffs.

Agree0 Disagree0

Stoner you definately don't know me, I don't hide behind anything. I haven't a clue what keoman said and i'm asking a question about a fact. I have my opinion which I will give at the end, . But I do suspect most answers will be similar.

Agree0 Disagree0

I also meant it wasn't a witch hunt by them . I think there is some truth in what they are saying.

Agree0 Disagree0

Oh please there is no truth in what they are saying, if everybody has us figured out we would be loosing every single game, FACT. The opposing manager and players will always talk once they get one over the bigger clubs. that's all. There is no witchhunt, if you want one look at what SAF wrote, that he would have sleepless nights on how he could beat this Arsenal team.

So for what stoner is saying is just correct, your just having another pop, if you haven't read what Koeman said then you better do before even posting the question.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jan 2015 15:43:46
steve,

I read the posts every day, I may not know you personally but I know where you're coming from when it comes to Wenger and Arsenal as everyone does.

Like me you like to say it like you see it but to ask this question and say it is not a witch hunt to me is somewhat daft.

Everyone of us sees our weakness and were not managers, the same subject is recycled every day. We need defenders, we need to defend as a team, we need a true DM and so it goes on.

The question has been answered a 100 times over this season alone. So to ask it is just setting up for people to dig at Wenger.

No offence to you fella just surprised you asked a question you I and everyone else knows the answer to but we are not alone, Mark Hughes has never in 8 attempts beaten us at the Emirates, does Arsene have his number.

Anything can be twisted to suit anything and that question was simply that.

We all know we need wins against City and Chelsea to see us turn a corner.

Agree0 Disagree0

Truth is that it is us that only plays one way, the arsenal way (which I love), we will always attack and never play for a draw.

What happens is typical of yesterday, stoke caught us on a bad day before but yesterday we played OUR game, and when we play our game there is nobody better.

As much as we have struggled against the big teams, they have to adjust to play us as they know what we are capable of, add a couple of world class players in our midfield and defence and we will be a real force once again.

Agree0 Disagree0

337 i'm sure we all know we also have a mental problem in the team. The stoke game away, not many predicted succes, but everyone and his dog had us down for a win on Sunday. We used to have the same problem with Bolton. Poor to average team that bossed us at their place and we beat at outs. Its still there.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with Stoners second post in that proof is needed that we have turned a corner and either beating city or chavs this season would go a long way to convincing me that things might just maybe possibly beginning to change.
As we stand every city player fan and member of their backroom team are 99.9% certain of beating us but the rest of football is a little less sure at 99.8% we will get beat by one of the big boys again.
Only we can change that but until we do no one apart from us will take us seriously as title contender's.
Sorry but its true injuries the stadium and shear bad luck are not the reason we are not really contender's they are and have always been the things we chose to accept because of Arsene's fantastic past withr us
The time for false hopes and living on empty promises has to end and in order for that to happen things need to change either with or without Arsene making the changes

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - valid points them G62..

Pundits generally talk nonsense, that's all. If everyone has worked out how to beat us then why do the majority still lose? Because they haven't.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lemon everyone knows how but not all are capable which is why we're 5th not top or bottom, I know how to lay bricks but I couldn't build a house but I know plenty who can and there's loads of apprentice's coming through to join their ranks too
Pundits wrong? When we were top at the beginning of 2014 few pundits thought us capable of being there come May, I disagreed completely but I was wrong and them right so I am more prepared to listen and take their views more seriously

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jan 2015 12:41:58
Giroud is talismanic for Arsenal
Ozil is not good enough for Arsenal
Mertesacker is not good enough
Podolski is not good enough
Sanogo could be a big player for us

Do these comments seem normal to you blokes? Considering we scrapped 4th last season, haven't beaten a big team in the league for a while and we are currently 5th.

I am worried that good players fail to fit into our system and substandard blokes like Giroud manage to get cult followings. I wouldn't mind if we were winning an average of a trophy every two seasons thereabouts, but not when we have been defending 4th place for as long as we have been

At this rate, I am worried that one day we will get Messi or Ronaldo but still they will not be able to our "winning" style of football

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Giroud is good but not great.
Ozil is not strong enough for the EPL.
Mertesacker has lost it.
Podolski is a great goal scorer but can't be bothered.
Sanogo, who knows.

IMO for what it's worth :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

The reasons why we aren't beating big teams is the standard of some of our players and the lack of knowledge and lack of use of tactics. Just for comparison how many of the present team would get in the invincible team. On present form only possibly sancez and cazorla. Can't see any of the back five, midfield or strikers. On the bench maybe, ramsey, ozil, kos, wiltshire, ox. No stikers and not many defensive type players. So yes we are getting used to mediocrity. that's why we aren't proggressing.

Agree0 Disagree0

Where would ozil go if he were to be sold?

Bayern, Barca are the only names I can think of who will give us some sort of a return on what we paid, and i'm not sure either of them want him

Agree0 Disagree0

PSG? They were mad enough to pay top money for Luiz

I really hope he bucks his ideas up, before he signed for us I watched him a few times and he looked world class, he looks like he can't be bothered now. It's as if Madrid forced him to come to us and he did'nt want to - At least if he smiled or had some sort of expression on his face it might help.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - im with you 100% 337..

12 Jan 2015 10:53:15
Looks like WH are trying to sign a CD, does this mean Reid is coming soon?

Hope so, I know lots are sceptical but this guy is our type of player, he would fill in well at RB too.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

12 Jan 2015 09:54:57
Benik Afobe scores 19 in 21 for MK Dons, and yet we sell him. Yaya Sanogo is still in the senior squad. Something is wrong.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - afobe is playing in the 3rd tier though alex which is a significant difference mate, im sure arsene knows what he is doing fella..

Agree with ed, if we bring this guy back he won't get a game. It is very different in the EPL.

Who knows, if he turns out to be a future star we may have first options to buy him back.

Agree0 Disagree0

Jay Emanuel and Henri Lansbury were both outstanding in the championship when on loan from us and Jay Simpson looked like a sure thing but the championship is a world away from the premier league and league one is several Galaxy's away .
Swap Both players over and you'd most probably be saying the same about Sanogo now, if he was doing it for Hull or CPalace on loan then I'd agree 100% but we wouldn't be letting him go if there was a realistic chance of him being the real deal, hope he goes on to prove me and the club wrong.
Oh this time last year people were demanding Joel Campbell's return but not too many shouting for him this season

Agree0 Disagree0

Here's an idea, let's loan Sanogo to MK Dons and see how many he scores?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i will set that up today 337.. :)

Thanks ed, unless you want him at Everton?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - no thanks 337, he is only a kid though mate and has time to improve, we dont see these players day in day out, so have to trust the managers judgement on these things, one thing i am sure of is that he knows more about this than the rest of us..

Sanogo is older than lukaku ffs. and the ox. for me he's never making it here

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - but he never cost £28m DG..

I was only saying because u said you don't want him he's just a kid. I remember we let eisfeld go and people thought he was 18 19.

his france youth record is good but so was nugent was once a good u21 player lol

Agree0 Disagree0

Depending on their strengths some players develop a lot quicker than others, sometimes it's size, sometimes it's their football brains but most importantly they need game time.

Jenkinson is benefitting massively from playing regular football at west ham, had he stayed with us and Debuchy hadnt have been injured it might be a very different story. Look at chambers, I think we should have loaned him back to Southampton but instead he's been played out of position and it has set him back hugely.

Agree0 Disagree0

Funny enough 337 I was talking to a mate of mine this morning who is a West Ham season ticket holder and he says Jenks has gone renegade on us and wants to stay with them on a permanent basis now.
Shame because the lad bled Arsenal if you cut him pre August, that the gamble I know but I do think in the years ahead its one we will come to regret taking with Jenko

Agree0 Disagree0

He's probably saying that whilst he's there so the fans love him, give him the chance to come back and play every week for us and a pay rise and he will be back don't worry

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jan 2015 09:18:17
Did someone just say the Ox will never make it at Arsenal?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - cant say i heard that mate..

12 Jan 2015 08:10:41
Although its not always obvious why we are a better team when Olly Giroud plays, it's just one of those things that isn't as obvious as a 30 thunderbolt into the top corner or a dazzling run with a player beating four defender's but for us Giroud is key

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Just when you think we could of had suarez I look at giroud and cry. does a job didn't cost a lot but we need better sooner or later.

Agree0 Disagree0

You know exactly what your going to get with Giroud. With his back to goal he will either pass it back to you or try a flick round the corner. If the ball is out wide he will make near post run. Think our midfielders have learnt to play with him and all honesty they like it when he's in the team

Agree0 Disagree0

Spot on G-man, our players take a lot of stick but this guys is hugely important. Even Sanchez plays better with him out there as well.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yea DG and not getting suarez was our fault when we put in all the efforts. And I am sure when we wanted to sign him half the bolks on here would have said no thanks.

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally agree with you G62, he's as talismanic as sanchez is for us

Agree0 Disagree0

Suarez. aguero, tevez are strikers that play like sanchez does. work rate. hunger, desire to win. never say die. giroud isn't that guy

work rate and pace go along way

Agree0 Disagree0

I had to pinch myself to make sure that I ain't dreaming. Giroud?? Talismanic?? Giroud offers nothing for us. Sanchez scores goals whether Giroud is there or not. I want a striker who scores more goals than anyone else. I am sure the position is called "striker" for a reason.

I will say it again, people are getting used to mediocrity through Wenger's brainwashing. Which of these sides would Giroud make it into: Man City, Swansea, Man U, Chelsea, West Ham, Southampton, Everton. Even if he played for Leicester or Burnley, he would not be their best player (no disrespect meant to either side)

Agree0 Disagree0

No disrespect Rue but that statement is very. " football managerish"

Giroud brings others into the game holds the ball up races into channels to drag defenders away, thus creating space, granted he is not as prolific as we were spoilt with, with the likes of Henry and Wright but to say he offers nothing to us is naivety at best.
Let's get this clear

WelbeckPodolski, Walcott, Campbell and even Sanchez are certainly not the answer as a lone striker, Giroud in the system we play is very effective.

Agree0 Disagree0

All except chelsea and City and yes he would be

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree rue average at best, people are getting used to mediocrity and are loosing sight of the fact, we won't improve with giroud as our striker.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jan 2015 13:01:45
I think Giroud is quality. Obviously he isn't as potent or lethal in terms of goal scoring as other strikers. But he really suits our style of play. I think he'd do the same at City, to be honest, but obviously would get ahead of Aguero or Dzecko.

We certainly haven't been brainwashed by Wenger into accepting mediocracy. Apart from Sanchez, Ramsey and Koscielny we want better players in every position. Giroud links well with our creative players and wingers. His height is also crucial at attacking and defending set pieces. His goal return isn't too bad either, he has 7 goals this season, despite a broken ankle in August.

Striker is not a problem position for us. We need a Cb and Cdm now, and possibly a LB and GK before we can think about upgrading our Striker.

Although it has to be said the quality of our Strikers has massively declined since 2012.

Henry, Berkamp, Reyes and V. Persie
Van Persie, Adebayor, Eduardo, Julio Baptista
Van Persie, Chamahk (when he was good), Gervinhio

And today its come down to Giroud, Welbeck and Sanogo.

When we've sorted out our problem areas, so maybe going into the season after next, Giroud will be 29/30 and we'll know if Welbeck and Sanogo are going to be good or not. Then we can look at a new first choice forward like Higuan or Cavani.

DG, if you count Henry/Bergkamp, the comparable is Giroud/Sanchez to be fair.

Fair point. But I see Sanchez as a LW rather than a Striker. Berkamp was a striker, not a creative midfielder or winger. Pires, Hleb, Arshavin, Nasri is the comparison to Sanchez in our current side

Excellent performance & result yesterday. Sanchez aside, I was particularly impressed with Bellerin & Coquelin.
Awful performance by the referee, who should have sent Arnatovic off for the deliberate push that dislocated Debuchy's shoulder. Jon Moss the ref, is clearly overweight and can barely run. Many of his decisions were poor and he allowed Stoke to continue playng rugby. Indeed Crouch should also have been sent off for the use of his arm into the face of Monreal.
With Debuchy likely to be out long term and Gibbs once again injured, Wenger must sign a defender. I can't belive we started the season with only 6 first team defenders, fortunately Chambers has proved a success & can play at CB, as well as RB, whilst Bellerin has improved significantly. He still needs to work at the defensive side of his game, as his positioning looks suspect at times. Ideally I would like to see us sign Subotic, but realistically Van Dijk could fill the gap. I would seriously consider Mings, as Monreal clearly lacks the pace necessary in the Premier League. A defensive midfield player such as Shneiderlin or Sissoko is a must, to replace the truly awful Flamini. With Coquelin stepping up to the challenge, one of the two would be sufficient. However, by the start of nest season, Flamini & Arteta needs to be replaced to challenge for the PL & CL.

Couldn't have put better myself. Cb is top priority, I wish we could bring back Jens from loan too. Somehow I get the feeling we might need to wait for a DM as coquelin is doing a job and we are still paying the wages of arteta and flamini. But in my opinion this will be the first position addressed in the summer when prices are less inflated.

I think you will all be very disappointed and that it is likely we will get someone journeyman on the wrong side of 30 as a gap filler as Wenger likes his starters and is not about to demote anyone in January. Sorry to break it to you.

That said with the lads getting healthy it seems a stroll to 3rd which improves on last season and maybe a deep run in the CL.

I don't get all the hate on Monreal. I thought he had a decent game yesterday. Afterall he is only a second choice LB. We all want to have 2 players of top quality in every position but only teams like City, Real and Bayern can pull that off. I get the criticism of Monreal when he struggles at CB, but again that's not his fault. Wenger should of gone into the season with more than 2 CBs.

Also I don't think Chambers has been that impressive at all. He was good initially but has been destroyed whenever played at RB. Debuchy and Jenks should be first choice (with Bellerin loaned out) and Chambers should play at CB where he looks more comfortable and maybe given a shot at CDM.

I agree Coquelain has looked decent recently, he's overtaken Flamini in my opinion. Hopefully we sign a top Cdm and release Diaby and Flamini. i'd prefer it if we kept Arteta one more year as he's very experienced and a good leader.

Another thing, where has this talk of Sissoko for cdm come from? Firstly he's not a natural defensive midfielder. He plays LM/RM/CM for Newcastle. He also isn't good enough for Arsenal. He'd struggle with the passing aspect of out game. Schnierderlin, Wanyama, Bender, Khedira or even Gundogan would be great. But not average and unproven players like Sissoko or William Carvalho.

Monreal did well

AFC_Bacon, I am sure Jens actually retired and is not on loan anywhere. In any case much as we loved him I don't think he would seriously challenge Sir Chesney or Ospina for the No. 1 GK slot at his age :)

I think he meant John Jenson Kafka :-)

Although i'm not sure he would solve our DM problems at 79 years old
