Wenger will sign a top striker and break out transfer record you heard it here first, boy oh boy I have it on very good authority no one will see this coming ;)

The BBC are reporting we have enquired about Higuain and been told unless his £84 million release cluas is met he won't be leaving this summer, If true I'm not worried about the fee or the wages at all because the money side of transfers means nothing to me but I do think we are barking up the same wrong tree as we did 4 years ago where the cat has absolutely no interest what so ever in coming down to play for us.
But I do applaud Arsene and the club for yet again genuinely trying to solve our weaknesses even if there's more chance of Leicester retaining the premier league title and making it a CL double than him being an Arsenal player next season.

Believable0 Unbelievable2

12 Jul 2016 20:27:11
Gunner do you honestly think they are trying to solve it going after targets they aren't willing to meet the valuation. Its happening too often. If we want higuain or whoever, we know what their value is, so unless we are going to get wet why put our feet in the water.

Agree3 Disagree0

12 Jul 2016 20:49:20
See your point Steve but I think we are genuinely trying this summer appossed to going through the motions in a bid to keep the fans off Arsene back as last summer with all the you know who.
Arsene knows another summer like last summer followed by our first poor run will be met with much louder and longer fan unrest than we saw last season plus he also knows if he wants to keep both Sanchez and Ozil he has to give them a reason to think next season could be different, as we stand we will be as competitive as a Sloth on sun lounger against Usain Bolt in a Ferrari.

Agree0 Disagree2

12 Jul 2016 21:21:27
Agree with Steve,
We are chasing shadows going for the likes of Higuain, Benzema, Lewandowski and Aubamayang.

It makes me laugh, we could have signed Higuain for £30m, but haggled over £2m, than we chase him when he's valued £84m?

Ridiculous.

Agree4 Disagree0

12 Jul 2016 21:44:50
Dags I've always said wenger is reactive not proactive, which I think holds us back as well. Yes we could have had higuain, draxler and others cheaper if we had really meant it and it was what we wanted.

Agree1 Disagree0

12 Jul 2016 22:00:07
Agree Dags we are chasing shadows but we are genuinely chasing them this time instead of putting on a shadow puppet show to create the allusion ot chasing them, the result is almost certainly going to be the same but because the intent is their we are more likely to actually settle for the attainable apposed do nothing yet again.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jul 2016 22:10:01
Undoubtedly we are now feeling the full affect of not investing last summer, Sanchez wants out and even Jamie Vardy doesn't fancy us as a good bet, if we'd been more ambitious last summer people might take us more seriously this summer.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jul 2016 22:19:11
Would prefer a shadow to Sanogo.

12 Jul 2016 22:21:49
Same old same old 62, these stories come out every Summer

Wenger then says " we tried" knowing full well it ain't going to happen.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jul 2016 22:33:59
Aubameyang is a better option at 64 million lol.

Agree2 Disagree0

12 Jul 2016 22:48:52
True Banbury mate but the only reason I mentioned the story was because it was the BBC who reported it and in my opinion they are usually not always but usually more reliable than most, they gave the whole Benzema thing a miss last summer which puts them up a few notches in my book.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jul 2016 23:22:17
Groundhog day, for all the intent Wenger and the board have of signing these players they may as well just go for it and put in a £100 million bid for Messi and Neyma, we all know there's no chance of it being accepted but at least Wenger and Gazidis can harp in about how we tried.

I really hope as a fan of 36 years to have these words shoved down my throat, but I really am surprised at the level of optimism of some of us this year, especially after the last few summer's windows.

Great to see Tony Adams and Freddie Ljungberg taking up roles coaching the U'18's and U16's.

Shame Henry felt like Sky was more important, especially as he professed so much love for the club. Hey ho.

Adams likes to have an opinion- he might struggle.

Agree1 Disagree1

12 Jul 2016 19:08:16
If Tony talks like he did when manager of Portsmouth he won't upset anyone because no one will have clue what he's on about.
Great player great captain but his post match interviews while in charge of Pompey were baffling to say the least and explained why his team all looked lost as to what the game plan was once on the pitch:-)
We could certainly do with Tony Adams the player rigyt now, the man is simply biggest Arsenal leggend of them all bar none IMO.

12 Jul 2016 16:03:13
After Jamie Vardy rejected the chance to join us in favour of staying at Leicester I can honestly say that I do not expect us to sign anyone else in this transfer window.

Its a good decision from him as he would not be a guaranteed starter. Also our style of play wouldn't suit him. (Unless Wenger had stolen Big Sam's tactical notebook and we are planning to launch the ball up to Giroud all season) .

Granit Xhaka is a great signing for our midfield so i'm pleased with that but we are in desperate need of a top quality striker! Especially after Welbeck is injured again. and we all know that Theo and Giroud only turn on the style 1 game out of 5.

The strikers that fit the bill are.

Robert Lewandowski - My preferred choice - Amazing Striker
Paulo Dybala - My 2nd choice - Great talent
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang - Seems City bound if he is to leave. will be pricy.
Edison Cavani - 29 now so a risk if it dosent pay off (Could be another Falcao)
Karim Benzema - Missed the boat, can't see him leaving unless RM buy Lewandowski
Gonzalo Higuain - Missed the boat when he signed for Napoli, too expensive.
Alvaro Morata - Big gamble, unproven but talented
Alexandre Lacazzette - Surely just another Theo?
Romelu Lukaku - Great on his day but overpriced
Daniel Sturridge - Great but too injury prone (not that that matters with us)
Thomas Muller - Great option, will never happen though.
Luiz Suarez - lol

Everyone Striker I have mentioned above will cost at least £40/ 50M and can anyone really see Wenger potentially breaking our Transfer record? I can't. I'f we do sign a striker it definitely won't be from the above list.

Prepare yourselves for the standard deadline day speech "We have tried to sign someone but there are not any top quality strikers available on the market for our budget"

I could be wrong. but I could also wake up next to Megan Fox tomorrow morning.

Thoughts Eds and fellow Gooners?

12 Jul 2016 16:15:40
Must admit I'm usually very optimistic and there is plenty of time to go. But I have a feeling it won't happen. Tbh he says he sees draxler as a cf I think we should just part with the 40+ and get him now. I can't see anyone becoming available.

Agree2 Disagree0

12 Jul 2016 16:46:23
Yeah I think Draxler would be a great option but I can't see that either and he isn't a natural CF so I didn't include him on the list.

I'd also like us to sign a CB but I'm not sure who we could get?

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jul 2016 16:48:13
I would not mind seeing Draxler in - big strong and fast.

Also, let's not forget Elneny - he looked real good in his brief spell, central midfield is in good shape!

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jul 2016 17:18:22
I think we probably have the strongest midfield in the premier league!

But unfortunately we don't have a reliable striker to put away all the chances they will create.

Agree2 Disagree0

12 Jul 2016 18:08:23
We will hear the normal stories "'we tried but we have to get the right player for the club"

I think with the fact that not many are leaving suggests we have done our business .

12 Jul 2016 18:11:24
strongest midfield in prem? Quite how u worked that out I don't know.

Agree0 Disagree6

12 Jul 2016 18:40:30
That's easy Chris! If you do your research I'm sure you will find that every member of the Arsenal midfield can bench press upwards of 200k.

{Ed001's Note - what an odd question for the Arsenal page.}

12 Jul 2016 13:43:50
Who's the fan who said spurs won't be signing much this summer due to our new ground, well another signing has just arrived in 20 million Janssen to kick us on, and there's more top deals coming soon.

Believable5 Unbelievable5

12 Jul 2016 15:26:55
Alright wind your neck in! You've only spent 30m and there probably just squad players. I'd be surprised if much more than 1 or 2 low grade players come in.

Agree1 Disagree2

12 Jul 2016 17:07:10
Actually think Janssen will be a great player in the EPL - would have liked him to join us!

Agree2 Disagree0

12 Jul 2016 20:08:18
I watched a bit of janseen when we were linked with him. He seems awful so on the ball playing and won't get away with it in the prem but does seem to have a good eye for goal and if he comes up to speed with the league could be a good talent but I see him struggling in the first season or two. Hope I'm not proven wrong!

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jul 2016 12:28:29
Come on Ed01 you know we are mates .
Something in a reply you gave earlier that got me thinking!
Is Sanchez on his way? What do you know?
Just between us ok.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - he is not entirely happy with the way things are going. He wants a title challenge, not a sneak into second on the final day of the season challenge. Right now I expect him to stay though.}

12 Jul 2016 18:26:56
I knew you had some info .
Anyhow I will keep it between ourselves mate.
😂.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jul 2016 20:09:49
We're going to have to invest in a striker and put in a real push next season to keep him imo. Either way like I said the other day I'd rather let him leave on a free in two years than sell him before that.

Agree1 Disagree0

12 Jul 2016 12:45:10
I'd settle for Chicarito and Willian's at the moment.

The only realistic deal I see coming is maybe Draxler as it's almost certain no club wants to sell their top guns.
It's going to be "Wenger and the Takuma Asano series".
I'm afraid he could be the only striker Wenger signs.
One for the future indeed! lol.

Believable1 Unbelievable4

12 Jul 2016 11:30:52
I don't see Draxler coming at all I'm afraid

I also think we have concluded our Summer business.

Agree1 Disagree3

12 Jul 2016 11:34:21
Apparently, Wolfsburg may be losing Schurrle to Dortmund, so I can't see them selling Draxler too, if that's true.

I'm still confident, there's still over a month of window left till I start to become super negative'

As for the Japanese lad, don't worry about it.

it means no worries, for the rest of your days.
It's a signing see, for a modest fee, Takuma Asano!

I'll get my coat.

He ruffled wenger feathers due to his comments on sky sports

Another former player that has been pushed out.

Agree1 Disagree6

12 Jul 2016 11:30:25
Potentially unpopular opinion here.

I'd love Henry to stay around, I think he can only be a positive model for our youngsters.

But here's the thing, apparently it comes down to choosing between us or sky sports and IF that's true, then I agree with Arsene's (apparent) stance.

Imagine going to your boss this morning and telling him you can't do Monday because your other job needs you, but you can do Tuesday, but only mornings because a you'll be travelling in the evening to do the other job Wednesday night, and you can't do Thursday because you'll be on your way back home, you can do some Friday's but ONLY some, because now the other job wants you to work occasional Friday nights and you certainly can't do Saturday or Sunday, because your other job wants you then too.

If Theirry wants to be a coach, snap him up with both hands and lock him down, make him captain of the coaching staff if it helps, but he can't be both.

12 Jul 2016 11:31:38
He was being honest and wasn't alone with his comments.

Agree0 Disagree1

12 Jul 2016 12:07:49
Of course we don't know what was agreed when he first went back to the club, was he doing media work? If so the club must have agreed something .

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jul 2016 12:37:41
I'm with D on this one. We need committed staff not part time. It's a shame don't get me wrong. But I don't think this is Arsene being stubborn surely he is doing what he feels best. Henry is like a son to him it's probably being blown out of proportion to sell papers.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jul 2016 12:48:59
personally i think it was the right decision for several reasons

BG you are right he was being hones and its a view that a lot of fans agree with, and we all want the managers and coaches to say it how it is and agree publicly with us, but do you honestly believe that gets the best out of the squad, telling them they are not good enough to win and then walking onto the coaching pitch and getting them motivated to go and win games. i am sure a lot of manager look at their players and think, your not good enough, but they don't go on live tv and broadcast it. there is a lesson for TH there.

I also agree with the notion that the youth player need a full time manager/ Coach and if that is not something that he can fulfil then he can not do the job. he is a arsenal legend and a great but we can not then give the future players of the club a short straw just because TH wants to do his TV work.

there could be a lot more to it, i obvs no nothing, but taking away the emotion of who he is if someone hasn't got the time to do the job and was slating the current players would we then be saying give him the job?

Interesting stories going around about a falling out between Wenger and Henry which is meaning Thierry who apparently offered to coach or manage I'm not sure, the u-18 for free has been declined due to Arsene wanting him to stop working for sky. What is everyone view on this.

Before you comment let's think about this in a unbiased way and not just use it for a Wenger bashing excuse.

For me it's important that Thierry starts coaching in some way or another if he's ever to be considered as a future manager. Even better starting at that level. However if it is to manage and even just coach. With us all saying our youth recruitment isn't working. Do we really want someone who can't devote his time and effort into it and having other commitments.

It's ok for wenger to work for the media

One rule for 1.

Agree4 Disagree5

12 Jul 2016 11:31:41
Thing is, Wenger works for the media in close season.
Henry wants to be a coach and a pundit all at once.
If he wants to be an occasional pundit, then by all means, but he can't be an occasional coach.

Agree3 Disagree0

12 Jul 2016 11:40:40
See Malaga I mean no offense here but you've come straight out insinuating wengers fault and having a dig at him. Don't let your problem with him cloud judgement in all areas it seems petty to me. Again no offense there. But look at it logically. Firstly Arsene doesn't do punditry on match days for Arsenal. As Henry would be doing for sky missing out on u-18 games. Secondly are we to believe papers that come out with rubbish on a daily basis. And lastly if Arsene has that rule for himself and no one else why is keown on bbc so much? Again not a pop at you more what I'm wondering.

Presuming Kos will be rested for the start of the season, I was thinking about our options for cb:

A- Gab and Mert
B- Gab and Chambers
C- Gab and new signing who doesn't know the team yet

Looking at it like that, i'm not full of confidence.

A seems most likely, I'd prefer B or C before that though, which says a lot. Are we really going to sign someone and throw them straight in? Perhaps, but only if was an Ashley Williams type as can't imagine there's any really world class Cbs available that we'd get.

Which do you think is best and most likely?

Believable0 Unbelievable2

12 Jul 2016 08:23:14
Subotic seems to be linked, he would do IMO

It would have to be Gab and Per for me, Chambers needs to be loaned out. For me that signing was money wasted by Wenger.

Nice jab Perfect, fair point. I just figure if Wenger is going to roll with this lineup he's going to be predictable as always.

I am a big supporter of Le Boss, but if he goes through this whole window without a marquee striker after last years missed opportunity, then I will know ownership cares more about its ranch in the states than a cup or three ;-) )
