Haven't posted for a while, been annoyingly busy (obviously made time to watch chelsea crash out of Europe) and was wondering what everyone thought of the shift in power, english football used to be seen as the pinocle of world football, finalists in the champions league in 05, 06, 07, 08, 09, 11, and 12. Amazing stats, but in the last few years there's been huge inconsistency in the challengers for top 6 and even the winners/ runners up still struggle against the best from Germany/Spain.

For me it has been coming, we haven't been the best for a few years, money has taken over and egos rule the roost, one year United are winning the league and the next they're 7th! Liverpool coming 2nd then having a massive divebomb before having another resurgence, city again crashing out in Europe, Everton being dragged down to the depths and Southampton somehow stayed in the race for a very long time.

Apart from Dortmund, the german league looks very consistant, Bayern of course, being Bayern. And Wolfsburg and shalke making good young exiting teams, inter seem on the way back and milan look past the worst of their troubles, while PSG stay 2nd in the league they beat the team we thought untouchable in our "great league"

Always makes me think, is there a reason? When will our hype finally die down and the French league chirp up again, they're doing well so far!

So what does everyone think? Sorry if the post makes hardly any sense guys! Very tired haha! Nice to be back.

Welcome back akie mate, the premier league as the most commercial sellable league has a life span much as the Italian league had, our bubble will burst as all bubbles do.
In 2006 most thought a global recession was impossible but the higher things fly the heavier they crash, France or Germany's turn next me thinks.
The European super league? Its Esperanto and will never get going.

Because of the huge television deals, the Premier League will still attract top players.
The problem with the Premier League is the style of football that is played. It is the same reason that the national team fails so spectaculary. There is still far too much emphasis on a physical game. The German & Spanish leagues can match the English physical aspect, but have more skillfull players. In Germany they have a winter break, which recharges the players batteries. I believe there is also one in Spain, correct me if I'm wrong.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - there is a shorter break in Spain, but yes they have a break over Christmas time.}

Agree with G62, what goes up, must come down. Power will always change hands no matter what you do :)

I do think this whole decline thing is a bit of a over statement and a little arrogant.

we are talking about the champions league in a cup competition where anything can happen.

Yes Chelsea went out to the champions of France, and for the people that state their league is not as strong as ours your right, but chelsea were not playing their league but PSG are a good team with good international players and a good coach, and after 2 draws Chelsea went out on away goals rule.

arsenal have gone out twice to the eventual winners on the away goal rule, how often has an English team over the 2 legs actually been turned over compleatly like Barcelona were last year, does that mean the Spanish league is in turmoil?

I hate to say it but i thinks its just English hype, its what we do, we believe that we have the best of everything and should just turn up and walk everything, well rather than think we are in a desperate time how about just realize that actually there is not a huge difference in all the teams and major leagues and sometimes a small difference, attitude on the day can send any team through in that competition.

here is a question however unlikely i believe this is going to happy. If arsenal and city come through next week, and then both get to the final - ( finishing with a Arsenal win of course) will all those people that have said we are going backwards ect suddenly change their tune and be saying - I always said this was the best league in the world?

GB, not meaning to sound arrogant with the post, I've thought the same as you for a while, we hype everything up, as soon as a 16 year old comes through we need to thrust him into the first team for everything so he's world class at 20 and is the greatest thing since sliced Zidane!

Looking at when Spain when they dominated world and European competition for years, the team played together for years, from the under 21's to the senior squad, so they knew eachother. However our national squad seems to have sterling and oxlade on the wings one month then Downing and Milner the next, too much change, players like wilshere, Oxlade, sterling, stones, chambers should be playing together at a younger age instead of being put in the senior squad.

It has an impact on the leagues looking at germany and Spain, they have 2-3 teams where the national side is made up of, whereas we have so many teams that we choose from, based on form, which seems fair, but in the long run. Surley won't win us anything.

Had to check - thought I was on the Chelsea page!

Talking of check - thoughts on latest rumours

Neven Subotic, Morgan Schneiderlin and Petr Cech for 50m and our budget spent.

Note - we don't have the unlimited riches like City and Chelsea that allows them to win everything with flair, style and honour....

I wouldn't be disappointed with that although, 50m doesn't go far nowadays

The 3 would strengthen the competition for places across the squad and make it very interesting.

I doubt we will add more players even if Pod, Diaby etc go but it would be nice to add an experienced youngster with pace to add fire power up front. A youngster who doesn't need 5 years to get a visa.

Then I would be happy and we will challenge

Or Give Dags his chance? Just give him 6 months to find his boots, get back to full fitness and clear his diary, well by diary I obviously mean joke book but he could be our answer to Austin next season.

Not sure you could say Chelski are winning everything with flair, style and honour (or even one of those).

Cetaily agree with the no honour Excilled, there's been very little of that around chavs for a very long time and none less than now.
The chairman sacked mourinho first time round for lack of style as he wanted his team to be admired, he's further from that now than ever, efficient, effective and offensive to me sum up this mourinho chavs to me

Nevel subotic.....

What you reckon fellas?
Get this lad in and find a suitor for the BFG?

Our centre back would then be...koss, gabi, chambers n subotic

We'd be pretty comfortable in that area for a few years if it happens.

Here's hoping ;)

PSG, but Bayern look very strong too.

And Bayern play good football.

But if rewards are given to those that earn it in football. Then PSG have earnt quite a lot by their display and their approach yesterday.

I know we need English teams to go far in the Champions league but I have to say well done PSG, the right team went through. Chelsea are not a good advert for the English game, and Mourinho is a winner, but has no class and deserves nothing. He complained about their behaviour but he sends his team out to do the same? He is an embarrassment to anyone who understands class and has it.

I would really like thereto fall from the top by the end of this season.

I have been lucky enough to have won in sports, as a runner when I was younger and in karts and single seater when I was a little older and losing and winning with class and earning respect is something he will never understand.

If they play that poorly against Southampton, Liverpool and us there are points to be dropped. It will be interesting to see how they respond.

The club admonish the fans for the behaviour as thugs and then send out players to act like thugs and cheat.

Costa, for the talent he has should be ashamed of himself. He may well get fouled a lot, but he gives out just as much if not more. There are a lot of players who get fouled but don't behave like him.

How can Mourinho point out other people's tactics behaviour when they are doing to him what his teamsters out to do.

PSG. You were class. That is how you play football.

What I would give for us to buy Things Silva. Silly for the handball but what avresponse, and what a player.

Add Marquinhos in as well to the Arsenal fold, buy Dybala, get Jose Louis Gaya and let us move to the next level.

I can but dream.

At least we play the game the right way, like PSG.

Mourinho. You get what you deserve in life

Is actually feel sorry for some Chelsea players. They are too good to be part of Thug FC.

Let the final Act of the season commence

Now Arsenal, do the impossible and turn round our deficit in Monaco.

Even Ian Rush was disgusted by them. The fact that he thinks their behaviour is unacceptable is a statement in itself.

How does a team with so much talent accept the directive of their manager to get the best of the opposition sent off.

Just don't get it.

Morning all. Have a great day everyone.

An undignified exit for a club without dignity, nice to see.
Mourinho has been trying to cultivate an us against the world siege mentality since his return and on this at least he is 100% on course.

Probably doesn't help that I tend to write LONG!

lol

{Ed001's Note - I have noticed that, we just had a quick conference about the accidental submissions and we have decided it would be easier to just have a 'are you sure you want to submit' question after you press submit to stop that. It might be a bit of a pain having to press yes afterwards, but it saves on people losing a really long post after getting just halfway through.}

12 Mar 2015 08:30:21
Ed, you are a top Ed.

JinKent, top top post and totally agree.

Not sure why, but Mourinho doesn't pi55 me off too much, but Costa is a total ar5e.

He's a total disgrace to football.

{Ed001's Note - damn right I am! ;o) Modest too......}

11 Mar 2015 23:54:50
We need as many English sides going through as possible, this business about being glad they are out I just don't get.

1) it means rivals have more games to play and less recovery time

2) if we all go out soon guys it will be Top 3 qualify................we won't be laughing then eh

All very odd

Believable0 Unbelievable5

12 Mar 2015 06:56:15
If it comes down to top three only then so be it. Arsenal need to start competing for first place, not just aiming for the bare minimum of 4th.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Mar 2015 07:18:54
I don't like Chelsea. I do like what PSG are doing. They are a force. Will win it soon I'm sure. Dani alves signing is a big coup for them.

Weather its 4 or 3 places for champions league we should now be going for the title. But i look at Italys teams in Europe there not exactly a force

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Mar 2015 07:33:43
The race for top 4 is exiting this season but just imagine how much more exciting it would be if it was for 3rd spot only?
Hey ho every cloud

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Mar 2015 13:45:53
Can't imagine England would lose its 4th spot anytime soon. Unless maybe the poor form of English teams in Europe continued for another 6 seasons or so.

Italian teams have really gone downhill over the past 10 years. Look at the two Milan clubs, they were two of the best teams in the world, now they are 9th and 10th in Serie A. Juventus are the only Italian team that look threatening.

But English teams are also in decline. We use to have a solid top 4 of Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Man U that would do well in Europe. However now Liverpool and United have really fallen off and are inconsistent. City are good domestically but struggle in Europe, and we keep getting spanked by the top teams because we keep finishing second in our group.
