Use our rumours form to send us arsenal transfer rumours.

13 Dec 2014 21:09:21
I know there are better goalscorers, but is there a better striker in the Prem for holding the ball up and bringing others into play?

And his goals record, whilst not great, is still very decent.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He just suits our team. He plays like a false number 9, he never to far from our midfield and gives them that option when things get crowded. Enough strength to hold off defenders and enough awareness to know what's around him. Our midfield play off him and we are definitely a better team when he's playing.

I'm not surprised ramsey has struggled without him either. If we can get ramsey and ozil fit we will have amazing attacking options

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Dec 2014 00:08:30
He's quality at it but most boys over 6ft can do it tbh. Lukaku, Bony, won't exactly name a best but it should be a basic requisite for big lads, and mostly is in the prem.

Not slight at Giroud I'm big suppourtor of he's he dosen't get credit for most of what he does but I'm aware the like of last weeks header etc. keep him in the 23-18 bracket not top 10

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Dec 2014 05:10:31
He certainly doesn't do the false 9 role noodles. Not even like a false a 9 imo

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree Sheeny. He reminds me more of a cross between an Alan Shearer and a David Ginola. Deft touch at times but is built in the old centre forward mould. At £12million he must be considered a steal when you put his price into perspective of the current transfer market. Good player and a hard worker.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Dec 2014 13:28:51
I suppose VDG if you took the average goals a season between them you'd get Giroud's 15 maybe :P I don't see it other than that,he's down the line of those boys I think :P

Solid performance by Bellerin.
Nice run from midfield in first half that nearly resulted in a goal.

And credit to Debuchy. Had a very decent game in the middle.
Been badly missed for past 3 months.
Welcome back Son.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Did debuchy play the whole game? I've been kebabing all night

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Dec 2014 05:13:21
Solid going forward but he's going to cost us a lot of goals on the counter I'm afraid, hope he learns quick tbh because his positioning sense and tact awareness is poor. He'd be much better developing as a winger in his current state imo

Agree0 Disagree0

Debuchy is a top player. With him Kos in the same team we will look a transformed team team at the back. Top players win you titles.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Dec 2014 13:35:53
Ya I'm very impressed with Debuchy tbh, and I didn't know what to make of him as a signing. I thought decent lad with Prem exp but I want something more, but he's step up in an arsenal shirt.

Funny that much of the toon weren't bother with losing him, or so they said!

Agree0 Disagree0

Can definitely see why sagna sits on the bench for france!

Slightly before my time but remember my old man talking about them.

SG, you are pushing it a bit, lol.

My first chioce
Sanchez Ozil
Giroud
2 and chioce
Theo Danny
Giroud
Both or mixture of the two are exciting if we can just get those behind them up to that level then we'll take some stopping

Agree0 Disagree0

I been saying that for a while SG. I used to watch em everyweek give the Ox Georgies way on the wing makes me fill old 😄

Terrific performance and result.

You were nearly correct 337, top man.

Cazorla you cheeky boy you. Respect.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

They played well, against an inform Newcastle side .

when you think we had Kos, Chambers, Wilshire, Ramsey, Ozil, Rosicky and Walcott all out they showed up and performed

Thanks dags, knew OG would get two, had a cheeky bet on 3-1 and 4-1 with OG to score first! So can have jam on the bread tonight!

4-1 Good win and performance to a side in form in Newcastle. 3 well taken first goals. I think the front 3 of Giroud, Wellbeck and Sanchez can work really well together with pace and trickery either side of Giroud who can hold it up.

Still a little concerned about defending set pieces but overall we handled them pretty well considering our makeshift line up in defence. Dubuchy did Ok at CB, I rather him there to Monreal
and perhaps Chambers to be honest until Kos. gets back.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Good post Ryan, horrible start but good middle and great end to the week.
Time to draw another line under what's gone before this season and look forward not back, one last clean slate and fresh start to this season would be good me thinks

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Dec 2014 18:21:10
Anyone think Bellerin will be turned into a right-mid one day?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

13 Dec 2014 20:24:04
He looked good attacking, and was unlucky not to get his shot away after a good run.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Dec 2014 21:05:22
He looked very composed.

Agree0 Disagree0

He was signed as a winger. Played majority of his youth there. Wenger decided to play him as a right back. I like him a lot and not scared to make a tackle. Looks like a brilliant prospect

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Dec 2014 13:45:57
That's what I reckon, hadn't realised that Noodles but it makes sense because the boys positioning and tact awareness in defence are poor tbh. He will cost us goals on the counter, I suppose though with so many talented wingers at the club still quite young he needs another position to get his games and Wenger does love a full back who gets forward, pity he doesn't like the ones that can defend as well :P

Absolutely nothing wrong with welbecks goal

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Honors even after Stokes should have been 4th last weekend, they really do even if themselves up over a season I think

Agree0 Disagree0

Agreed. Unfortunate, 2-0 would have been nice and done Welbeck some good.

Agree0 Disagree0

I guess From the Refs view you could understand why he misjudged thinking Wellbeck just ankle tapped him when in fact he tripped over himself really.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Dec 2014 13:47:41
What a brilliant finish and all. Oh well 9 more shots to go for his next goal!

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Dec 2014 17:46:20
That's what Olly gives us that nobody else can

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Definitely, you forget just what he offers us when he's out, it's so good to see him back though.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yup

I don't understand what people don't like about him, gives us another option and variation .

It ain't all about top tap

Agree0 Disagree0

Giroud is quality IMO

As you all know

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree he is the only one in our squad you can rely on to hold onto that ball up top and bring others in. We are stronger side with him in it. The front 3 with Sanchez and Wellbeck either side of Giroud can work really well I reckon given time.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree banners
Good old fashion centre forwards header

Agree0 Disagree0

Attacks starting to look pretty good, and then you remember we still have ozil, walcott, ramsey and wilshere out. I really think with a solid DM and competition at CB (the latter Arsene confirmed we will be adding in jan) this could be one hell of a team!

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Dec 2014 14:28:02
As much as I still have belief in AW, I see that we have recalled Coquelin from his loan to provide cover, I can not understand why we let Jenkinson go on loan without a clause to recall him.

Don't get me wrong I agree that he needed to play and if we did not have our injuries then he would not have got much game time. Surely if west ham were insistant they would only take him all season we would have found plenty of other clubs that would have agreed to a recall clause!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

13 Dec 2014 14:59:46
One of the eds said it a few weeks ago and its been mentioned since 337, West Ham paid to loan him for the year, the rule is then he cannot be recalled.

Agree0 Disagree0

I can't say I was a great fan of Jenkinson, but to allow him to go on loan to a Premiership team was absurd, particularly as West Ham are now above us. As Jenkinson wasn't named in our 25 man squad he couldn't have been brought back until the window opens, even if there is release clause, whereas Coquelin was named in our squad and can be brought back. My main gripe is why Wenger allowed us to go into the season with only 2 centre backs.

Agree0 Disagree0

I got that Sheeny, but surely we were not that hard up that we couldn't have said "no", if you want him it is on condition we can re-call.

I get how it works, and west ham got a quality player that meant they did not have to spend big on transfers, but how much was the loan fee? And how much extra did they pay to keep him all season?

I bet it was a silly amount like £100k or something, probably less than 2 weeks wages!

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Dec 2014 16:57:39
Maybe they wanted a full deal and we said no so this was the middle ground. At the end of the day, and this is not a go at you just something I think is apt for an ongoing topic like this.

Hindsight is the foresight of a gobs+!t£

It was the right call at the time. If he stayed he would have been playing the last few weeks and now he would be getting dropped again as Debuchy is back. What would that do for his development?

We've had a torrid time with injuries and were left short in the centre, absolutely. But if just Debuchy had stayed fit through all this and all the others were the same, Jenks still would have not played. Jenks playing would have been contingent on 2 injuries and suspension(Chambers today) if only Debuchy was injured.

In terms of the callback we would have called him back at the end of September only to be trying to get him out again in January. Not good for our image or his development.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Dec 2014 17:50:32
Totally agree Sheeny.

When we get him back he will be a better player for it.

Hindsight, as you say, is a wonderful thing, but Jenks is better off getting game time at West Ham than sitting on the bench at The Emirates.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Dec 2014 22:22:10
Thats what I think anyway dags, and there's no point get ourselves worked up over anymore.

For all we no West Ham said that they'll only do the deal if there can't be a recall (hence a small payment) and the only other club that were interested and could give him playing time was rotherdam united!

Lets just hope we do get him back in fine form next season. Especially a lad that's as into the club as he is.

Bring back the drinking culture to the game to end these injuries, player's used to play 200 consecutive games on a diet of 15 pints and kebab and chips each day all this boiled fish ain't working.
England won the world cup and Forest Liverpool A Villa dominated the European cup on a diet of beer and kebabs with extra hot chili sauce

Question for the eds, I was just wondering when it comes to loaning players in/out how does it count against the club in terms of ffp and wage bill.

Say we loaned a player in Jan for the remainder of the season and we pay his wage in total, is that counted against us in FFP terms, or is there expectable leeway in terms of short loans. I know ed2 has said before that we'll only get a slap on the wrist so its not really an arsenal thing that I'm asking as, but for a more dyer situation how does it work.

Similarly if we loaned a player out and the wages were being paid in full by the opposite club, obviously it would reduce our wage bill for that period, but how do the FFP "committee" review this.

Its really just as a curiosity because I was wondering if teams would start to skirt the system with loan deals in some way or another

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - If another club was paying for a player on loan then Arsenal would not need to report the costs. It is not a way to "skirt" the system.}

Having a look through the Premier league so far on YouTube and I have got to say John Stones was a remarkable grab by Everton. It's a shame he got injured because he really looks like he has a football brain beyond his years.

Calum Chambers cost us £16million more than five times the amount the Toffees signed Stones for. Which is ironic because from what I have seen Stones looks five times the player Chambers is.

Remember when it used to be our scouts on the ball with these types of players? Now we are generally spending £10million plus on first team youngsters.

Alas days back yonder how I miss thee so.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - stones is a future england captain for me VDG..

13 Dec 2014 08:25:51
Stones is very good, one of the best young prospects in English football.

We have to give Chambers a chance though.
He's relatively inexperienced and has come into an Arsenal team, that defensively, are all over the place.

Although he collects more yellow's than Ed025 collects empty Southern Comfort bottles, he will settle down and be a good player.

This isn't Arsenal related but I would like to get some of the regulars opinions on this question as well as the EDs. Who do you see as the biggest sleeping giant of English Football who could be at the very top given the right Investment?

Obviously Southampton with their huge southern following and an academy to die for together with an 'Ambramovich' type owner would be unbelievable. Aston Villa have the majority of the midlands as a fan base and have a credible history to attract players should the right man at the helm stump up transfer fees and wages. Or maybe even the Hammers as they have a top fan base with a decent reputation to back that up.

But as I read about the potential of American consortiums interested in buying clubs like Tottenham for unbelievable sums I always wonder why no major Ambramovich' type buyer considers Newcastle United. They have a loyal support up north, a killer stadium which is steeped in history and the city lives and breathes our sport. Although they have Mr Ashley who is one of the worst men in football at the moment they are still doing their very best to maintain top table finishes. With major investment I believe they could attract top players.

So my question to the Eds is has anyone major tried to complete a takeover of Newcastle in recent times?

And my questions to you lads are is their anyone else you believe giving the correct funding could be a force in a few years to come?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - obviously im biased VDG, but for me everton would be top of that list, not only because we are the longest serving team in the top flight, but like newcastle we have fantastic loyal supporters and are also the 4th most successful club in english history, the problem is that goodison is a very dated stadium and that needs addressing as a matter of urgency to attract investors, then there is the main factor that puts the buyers off...were not in london!...QPR, spurs and the hammers have all attracted big money yet are miles behind everton in history, support, and achievement, dont get me wrong i dont want an oligarch or sheik to ruin us, i still want us to be a proper club like arsenal mate..

I agree with Everton completely Ed025 but I would currently class them as a 'big' club in our country now. Splashing out on Lukaku showed real intent last summer. They have managed their club well over the past years and I have to give a massive thumbs up to David Moyes and even Roberto Martinez in recent seasons.

I thought when Moyes snatched 4th spot a few years back major investment would have come in and the stadium situation addressed. I don't know what happened to the idea floated a few years ago about a combined stadia in Stanley Park for both the red and blue but I thought it was a decent idea. It would have been the equivalent of the San Siro on the Mersey!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - a lot of supporters were dead against it VDG, i thought it made perfect sense myself mate..

Its Everton for me too, of all the clubs billionaire's chuck money into I'm totally amazed not one has tried for Everton.
If I found a four leafed pixie who granted me 15 wishes but he added some strange clause that I couldn't get Arsenel Everton would be my next chioce.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Dec 2014 15:28:30
Go north of the border. Its Celtic

If Everton are the sleeping giant Celtic is a dormant . If they were in the prem they wouldn't even need the mega investors just an initial cash flow to sort out the current crop that aren't up to scratch.

During the summer window, I got ripped to shreds for suggesting we bring Song back. I also got laughed at when I asked if anyone would take a straight swap, Ozil for Pogba. Just wondering if people may have changed their tune on these two suggestions?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

13 Dec 2014 08:08:21
Outback,

I think I agreed with you at the time, and still do.

I would have taken Song any day. He is better than what we have and is doing a terrific job at West Ham.

Ozil doesn't exactly float my boat and, in terms of needs, would swap him tomorrow for Pogba.

Agree0 Disagree0

I like Mesut in fact I really like Mesut. I think he is a genius but indeed the genius needs the players around him to make him tick. Having said that whoever gets Pogba (if he leaves Juve) will be getting the future of the game. He will be that player that other players want to play with in the next few years. As much as I like Ozil I agree with you Outback Pogba is what we really need.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agreed all along with Song as for me it was a no brainer but not Ozil, he came to us as class on grass and we need to show we can handle top players and enjoy their best at Arsenal

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes to song, even though he betrayed us. No to swapping ozil, simply cause he chose to join us so I will show faith.

Agree0 Disagree0

Debuchy has apparently had 24hrs to learn to play CB ahead of the Newcastle match.

To me that is a shocking indictment of how football is taught. The millions that is poured into player development, why is it that not every player is taught to play every position? Develop footballers, not position players!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Sheeny there's two sides to that argument. Some would say yes teach players to play a few different positions and others would say that focussing on a specialty will make you maximally efficient in that role as you will act on pure instinct in a game where you often don't have that extra second to remember what position you are playing that day. I'm a firm beaver of the later, however with all our injuries year after year we would probably be better off coaching multiple positions

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Dec 2014 15:20:37
The thing about the latter justk is one of the first things we do in any sort of practice is internalize the method into an instinctual response, removing the need for the extra second.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Dec 2014 00:50:41
Gervinho:

What a disrespectful little turd! To come out and say that just goes to show the absolute lack of class that made us offload him.

I mean fair enough, he's rediscovered his form since moving to Roma, however, the guy was an obvious flop in the Premier League. He was in the starting lineup more often than not, and more often than not, he failed miserably to make an impact in any game. I can remember how he'd try to cut in and then, when faced with a defender, looked about as nervous as a horse walking past a glue factory and either shoot into a defender, or just trip over himself.

I want us to spend and spend big in January, but I'd rather us get another half arsed loan signing like Kimmy K, who will still play his socks off and have respect for the club than a bunch of egotistical mercenaries who wan't to be treated like demigods even when the after effects of last night's kebab would do a better job on the pitch.
