Ozil played well & was composed.

U made us(Arsenal) proud aswell!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Apparently he made more goal scoring chances than any other player during the world cup!
So much, of what he does goes unnoticed or is taken for granted, I guess that comes with the price tag and reputation

Agree0 Disagree0

If he was an unknown bloke thn he would've been on everyones lips. Hopefully he'll carry th winnin momentum into th comin along wit our other germans and ones we might buy.

Agree0 Disagree0

Thank you very much for that stat Namgooner. I personally have loved him this world cup. Ozil is never a player who wants to "dance around" with the ball, he is a player who receives the ball and delivers a killer pass. What more could we want?

Agree0 Disagree0

Honestly, we can't ask for more.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi guys long time AFC supporter and fan of this forum. Just wanted to say Ozil comes in for some stick however he ain't the type of player that sets games alight. He likes to be in the background pulling the strings and making space for others to finish. I'm relishing the sight of Sanchez latching onto a sublime through ball or Walcott picking up a flick and sprinting to score. Really think if we get a true DM to sit in front of the back four then we will/could win the premier league. All the best and ill post again soon.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

13 Jul 2014 23:13:57
I think Ozil is world class but he does need world class players around him.

Strange.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Jul 2014 01:12:11
and needs to man up, but your right he needs the support.

Germany have been awesome though.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Jul 2014 12:09:55
A world class playmaker always need world class players around him to make the right runs and finish the opportunities he gives them.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree Tonygooner. Ozil plays his role very well. His role is to provide chances for the strikers and he does just that.

Is it only me that isn't sure why messi won the golden ball?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Messi should never have won it, amazing choice

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jul 2014 23:16:15
James Rodrigues for me.

Or Remy, because the way he sat on that bench for 5 games just oozed class.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jul 2014 23:29:16
Agreed

James
Lahm
or god forbid Robben should have gotten it

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Jul 2014 01:10:28
Id have said Mueller tbh.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Jul 2014 10:36:41
I thought Neuer was immense. James won the golden boot with 6 goals, I can think of at least 8 goal interventions from Neuer. Also, a lot of the work he does doesn't get counted as a stat, but for me, he influenced the outcome of games more than anyone else.

Agree0 Disagree0

I would love to know what criteria they used to award him the golden ball. It seems FIFA are always itching to give Messi accolades

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jul 2014 22:47:24
Wow, three World Cup winners, maybe four, two World class players, maybe another on the way, a world class Stadium, World Class manager.

Add to that Ramsey, The Ox, Walcott, Cazorla, Koscielny, Wilshere, Gibbs, Gnabry, Giroud, Szczesny, Campbell and more.

Next season is going to be a wonderful ride. Can't wait. :-)

Well done to Mert, Ozil and Podolski. Brilliant.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

13 Jul 2014 22:55:11
Good post Jenjen.

Podolski's son was celebrating on the pitch with his dad before half the subs got there , haha!

Pointless info, but if anyone wants a bit of a chuckle, YouTube 'the chat arsenal'

Watch the one between Jenko and the Ox.
It's just brilliant.
I knew they got on, but the friendship between the two is clear.
I really hope Jenko makes it with us, I'd love to see those two as part of a core with Jack, Rambo, Gibbs and Theo in 5-6 years time.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Its brilliant isn't it :-) Greeny tipped us off a while ago and I've watched it loads of times.
Any non Jenko fans should watch it, you will change your mind about him guaranteed.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ahh, I missed that!
Top spot from Greeny.

The two of them together are great.

Career as a double act after football I reckon!

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jul 2014 22:10:44
Loved it when they described themselves as 'Carlamberlain'.

Agree0 Disagree0

How many times has Jenks watched castaway? :-)
And what's his chat up line?
Brilliant banter,

Agree0 Disagree0

It's just brilliant.

Carlamberlain was such a highlight dags!

But Chambo's acting out Jenko's chat up line was the best thing.

'So, you watch the game last night?'

The only good thing about the World Cup ending tonight is that I might finally stop singing "Brazil, braaziiiiiiilllll. " Every second of every day!

Also, anyone else making happy faces 24/7 and pinching themselves that we've signed Alexis Sanchez.

He will rip it up in the Premier League this coming season!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'm with you on that tune DR Green, its annoyingly adictive and I can't help making up my own silly lyrics to it either, which trust me makes it worse still

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jul 2014 21:41:03
Greeny,

The other day, Mrs Dag's said

"Will you stop singing that bloody song".

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jul 2014 20:49:51
So, here's a question for you all, kinda just popped into my head earlier!

Is Sanchez as big a signing as Özil?

Now, don't get me wrong, this isn't a moan, I'm ecstatic over Sanchez, there's literally no realistic forward out there that i'd have over him.
Not Balotelli, not Benzema, not Martinez, none.

But Sanchez was an 'in and out' player, he'd be used mainly as a sub brought on, or when they chose not to play Pedro.
And again, don't get me wrong, that's Barca's loss, I personally think he's a much better player than Pedro.

Özil was a starter for Madrid every time.
A real key player for then and we still got him.

And again, this is NOT a moan.
The fact we've taken a star off the biggest club in the world (in my opinion) and now an extremely good player off Barca, is testament to the pulling power of Arsenal and Arsene Wenger.

For the sake of argument, rewind to last window, if you didn't know that Özil would take time to settle (he'll shine this season, mark my words) and you were given the choice, Alexis or Özil, who would you pick?
For me, it's Özil everytime.

And that's not taking anything away from Sanchez, I think that he will be the making of Özil for us and will revolutionise our play, wether he is indeed played out wide or up front.

But Özil for me is the bigger and more significant player.

Thoughts?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

You're entitled to your opinion mate but for me Sanchez will excite me and get me on the edge of my seat. Ozil is quality but looks like a lost boy at the moment.

However, with the pace of Walcott and Sanchez plus the late runs of Ramsey, I think Ozil will be the Assist King once again.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jul 2014 22:01:05
Oh yeah, don't get me wrong, Özil has been very poor for us at times and hasn't had a standout World Cup either.
But I do think once he's settled he'll be right up there with the leagues best.

Sanchez will certainly add something!
We haven't had a player who can beat defenders with a dribble or flick, for a long time.

He's going to be superb for us and I think he and Özil will be ridiculous when they click.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jul 2014 22:11:50
Agree with Greeny on this, I've admired Ozil for a few years and have been underwhelmed with his first season at best and does look lost.

Was think the other night if I could only sign one which would I pick, give. For. On their last season I'd have to go Sanchez.

Ozil really needs to man up and get tougher as he gets pushed out of games far to easy.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jul 2014 22:11:53
As per Greeny.

If you can't watch WC Final in the stadium, is there anything better than watching it on a giant screen on Copacabana Beach?

Priceless.

Plus you might get a chance to play Arsene at beach football!

Sanchez £35m.

Khedira £23m?

Debuchy £10m.

Throw in a keeper for say, £5m.

That's about £73m.

Do you think Wenger will spend another £20m on another striker?

No fecking chance.

So, £8m for Remy?

C'mon, no brainer.

All hail Dag's. All hail Dag's.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

If we get Khedira, Debuchy and Ospina then I will "accept" us signing Remy.

For squad depth.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i would not go that far greeny..

13 Jul 2014 19:06:22
I certainly hope Arsenal do not intend to sign Luis Gustavo. He is weak and gets bullied off the ball to easily. He is not the midfield General we are after. Cannot see what he will really add to us

Believable0 Unbelievable0

If we really were after him last season, we dodged a bullet.

I must admit I hadn't watched him much at Bayern, so when we were linked with him, I asked a few Bundesliga fans at work their opinions and they all said he would be great for us, so I was excited!

But watching him at this WC, he just seems lightweight and lacklustre!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

13 Jul 2014 20:06:52
Agree because I bet Germany to win 2-0 with Meuller first goal-scorer, lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

Mark my words Sheeny, Özil will have all the confidence in the world about 3-4 games in, when he realises that his sublime passing flicks and tricks work for Sanchez!

Özil's best games came for us when he was;

A. Rested.
B. Had more to aim at than Giroud.

This season, he'll have Sanchez and Ramsey supporting Giroud (or a new forward. or Sanchez up top) and theo back around Christmas, he'll be spoilt for attacking options to aim at!

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jul 2014 23:39:54
Words marked D_

But I think you're wrong about Ozils best games.

He played best when Ramsay was fit. He did all the work in midfield closing down players and covering ground. It meant Ozil didn't have to track back. He's not that type of player and he's not the type of player to take defenders on and score a load of goals.

His game is in roaming in a 20ft wide zone between the half way and the box where he gets to spray passes in all directions.

The only problem last year was when Ramsay was, injured he hadn't the time (and one less runner) to get those passes away and had to track back more leaving him out of his position more often.

For Germany he's been played wide and using tonight as an example they didn't play wide footie! ****** me off because I had money on them and there was plenty of space on the flanks.

The only three times or so they used the flanks fully they created their best chances and of course scored the goal. But they gave Kroos Ozil's job in the centre probably because he covers more ground.

Just watched the BT ad, get the feck over it lads. Perfectly good ad for the PL in my opinion.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Don't they have CL as well as PL and FA cup games next season?
Its going to be hard to not use them at some point.
Pay monthly and use it on a as and when needed basis, personally if their not showing Arsenal games I've very little interest in it and can get the gist of what others are doing on motd

Agree0 Disagree0

It's not that big a deal, they were trying to advertise the fact they show 'unbelievable football' like us losing 5-1.

I took it as a compliment really, I too found it unbelievable that we lost 5-1 to that lot.

Besides, Alexis and the FA cup. I can love with a bit of stick!

Agree0 Disagree0

Jelfy and washo. I'm not sure being an ed means they should answer questions. I think it means they're supposed to EDIT and moderate. It's not like a job where they're getting paid. I can totally relate, and know that in their position, would get right tired of answering the same questions when the search engine is there. We're all guilty of it to some extent, so I think if an ed has a pop at us for it we should accept it and move on due to the fact they're doing all this for free, or not use the site.
I'd totally understand if this site was meant to be some kind of paid service, but it's a forum where people can share transfer rumours, that's all.

I think really those of us who are getting moody with them need to calm down and realise that if they weren't doing the job they're doing now, this site wouldn't he half as good.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Dont eds get payed for advertisements on this site?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - not the other eds no, and they are editors anyway, not answer machines. If they choose to answer a question, that is purely down to the goodness of their heart.}

The banter and rumors are fun enough but the only credibility this site has comes from knowledgeable ed's - keep up the good work and THX!

Agree0 Disagree0

Good post Chimney.
Without the Eds comments and interactionsi doubt there would be 23 members signed up let alone 23,000.
You never know what you've got till its gone and I for one don't want to find out.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jul 2014 19:18:59

13 Jul 2014 17:21:27
Hi everyone please let's respect the Eds and what they do for free.
I'm not asking everyone to agree with them at all times but certainly to respect them and their efforts for us at all times.
I know we all post things in all innocents totally unaware that others have asked the same question maybe 10 or more times but it's got be mind blowing keep being expected to repeat yourself time after time.
Before you sound off at an Ed put yourself in his shoes? At least that way even if you can't see his point you have new shoes :-)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

13 Jul 2014 19:21:32
Totally agree G62.

Read post's before you post to see if has already been asked and answered.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jul 2014 16:57:13
The front runners are those who can negotiate better than others along with those who cough up more dosh surely.

I would be amazed if ED knew the answer to some of these questions.

Why don't people search other rumour sites, you would be amazed how much you could find out :)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

13 Jul 2014 16:22:15
It's a bit tetchy on here today, including some of the Eds. Respect goes both ways, I'll say no more.

Anyone would think signing Sanchez last week, Debuchy Monday plus still in the market would make us a bit cheerier:)

After the last three transfer windows - Fabregas, Nasri, RVP, etc, we should be enjoying every minute now Wenger has opened the wallet finally. Nothing to do this window except enjoy.

If Khedira comes as some are saying after the final, we have a real shot at the title, especially as the physio's have been changed from last year.

No injuries last year, we nearly had it.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - so you think we should show respect to abusive arseholes who send in repeated questions, over and over again, without ever bothering to read the answers? Perhaps they should respect other users and read through the posts first, and show us some respect as we aren't here to be an answer service. We are editors, not answer machines. If people aren't happy with a site they get for nothing, then they are quite welcome to go elsewhere.}

I don't think anyone who abuses people should have the post posted. As for repeated questions, wouldn't an option be not to reply to a question that's already been answered? I'm not sure about the rest of people, I'm someone who comes here for a few laughs and to see what Arsenal fans are thinking of on the incoming and potential transfers, and to get some useful insider bits of info as to what may happen.

If people are upsetting the ed's, then they should be warned. But asking a question someone's asked before is just a harmless mistake, nothing more.

Surely we are all on the same side? :)

Agree0 Disagree0

As editors do you not pick which 'abusive persons' posts are actually posted?

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed001, I very much agree with you and I got a bit slated for once referring to this ( bloody enjoyable ) site as being more EDs question time rather than a genuine rumour exchange. Love the site, love the banter but, just feel there is a little too much frank language creeping in of late. This is not meant as some profound post, just bin in after you have read it.

I see that Remmmmeeeeee bloke is still demanding £80k a week.

Serious question to Dags and his followers. If you were Remmmmeeee wouldn't you drop your demands to secure a squad place at a club like Arsenal, CL football, Sanchez etc . I find it amazing that a Championship player who can't demand a starting place in the French squad should be so stubborn when a club as big as ours come along

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Completly agree, but Banbury, how do you expect someone to provide for a family on less than 80k a week! Give Remy a break man.

Agree0 Disagree0

Just what we need another Bendter, some ones who's own opinion of himself and his worth are matched only by his mirror image.

13 Jul 2014 19:32:25
Banbury,

I totally agree mate.
For me, Loic (you lot have to call him Remy), has a lot to prove.

No disrespect, but he has always plied his trade at lesser teams, he now, possibly, has a chance to step up another level, both domestically and Internationally.

For me, Loic (you lot can call him Remy), should keep his wage demands at a reasonable level, thus possibly securing a move to Arsenal.

If he is part of a winning Arsenal team, he would get bonuses and a pay rise.

Apart from the fact people can freely decide what they want to do with their BT subscription I think personally BT are doing their bit for care in the community.

Liverpool have just made the Champions league with thanks to a player they no longer have.

They have decided to raid a team who finished 6 places below them for a couple of players.

They will not go far in the Champions League and they will really struggle to make the top 4 with an improving Everton likely to take their place, how painful that will be.

Let them enjoy another piece of their history. Bless. :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

BT are also doing another AD which shows the 3-3 draw between Palace and 'Pool :)

From memory I think we've started every season with a World Cup winner in our squad since France 98. so it's either a Germany win or Barcelona are going to see sense and swap Messi for Giroud.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

2006 didn't Italy win it? I don't remember arsenal having an Italian player, though of course I could be wrong.

In fact in recent history I don't remember many Italian players at the top if their game playing in England.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jul 2014 14:13:47

Well Ladies and Gentlemen,
I haven't posted for quite a while, although I have been reading posts on here quite often.
Approximately 2-3 years ago I put a long post together about clubs being run like a business and the fact that they happened to be involved in football didn't detract from the fact that there was a balance sheet to deal with. I was derided (by some parties) as someone who didn't understand that it was all about success on the pitch, first and foremost. I then went on to try and explain to certain parties (the minority on here, you know who they were) that success does not mean longevity (Leeds Utd etc.), and a sound business model is paramount. Glory hunters are fickle, fans are not. You support who you have. I then went on to try and explain that once the debts were serviced or serviceable to a higher degree I believed that Wenger would start spending within the model. Again the anti-Wenger crew berated me.
This is not a gloat filled post (though it may come across as such), more an introduction to what I believed was happening behind the scenes at the time.
The two points I want to make are where are the naysayers now, and the current events prove to me that Wenger, a man with a degree in Economics, is not such a mug after all is he. I would love to see a few apologies from the supporters who voiced their vitriolic nonsense be man enough to write some supportive things to the club and in particular Wenger himself.
We are VERY lucky to have a manger like Wenger, yes he's highly paid (good value next to Luiz I'd say), but the foundations he has and is laying currently will be rock solid and 'hopefully' bring success to a club doing it the right way for many years to come.
One last thing, Phil Thompson, what a dingleberry.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Oh we all bow down to you. Very clever.

What an irritating post.

Conceited and self-absorbed are the two words that pop in to my head before any others.

Agree0 Disagree0

Top post Chimney Sweep

Agree0 Disagree0

As I said not meant to be a 'told you so post'. I was merely getting annoyed with the Wenger out crew acting like spoilt brats 2-3 years ago, when it was clear to see we didn't have the funds to compete at that point in time, so I fail to see why you should be irritated by it? I apologise if the tone of the language came across in the wrong manner to you, it was paraphasing what I had said before, but believe me it wasn't meant to sound big headed. It is hardly self absorbed when I suggested that Wenger and the team be cut a little slack; conceited, how? In that I am proud of the club and what they have achieved.
You have painted yourself as one of the parties I was eluding to in the past? No hard feelings Chimney.

Agree0 Disagree0

No frog, I've never said Wenger should be sacked, and have never questioned his or the boards running of the club, simply as it was clear to see what they were trying to do.

And how was it conceited? Maybe you should read a definition of the word, and then read through your post. Vanity is a ridiculous thing; very difficult to see in your self.

Agree0 Disagree0

What a person. Talking as if we'd won the treble and the Champions League. Had Wenger invested before we would have won the league. He is a very good manager but we are always lack the right player somehow.

I want Remy in the squad as he has pace and EPL experience. Limited settling in issues which is important if we add more players.
10m seems fair for a strong squad but 80K a week is a little strong if the demands are true.
Hopefully they can agree at 60k a week and move on with the photo and announcement.
Spending 10m on him would free up a little more funds for a signing on fee for Khedira which gets us over the finishing line their while protecting the wage structure.

Has anyone else seen the new advert for BT sport featuring arsenal and Liverpool?
I'm genuinely surprised they've done that, way to alienate a fairly large potential client base.
I certainly won't be giving them any of my money.
Perhaps their head of marketing is a Liverpool fan.

Their coverage last season was fairly poor, not as bad asectors itv in the world cup, but it doesn't really come close to sky.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'm cancelling mine, was not happy with it

Agree0 Disagree0

I was saw this the other day and thought how unprofessional it was. It does seem that there are a few in the media that are constantly on 'our' case. Darren Lewis spewing nonsense about Sanchez making the wrong choice, and don't get me started on Phil 'get a clue' Thompson. Both quite strong Liverpool supporters if I'm not mistaken! I have nothing wrong with Liverpool and think that they have a classy supporter base in general, but these boys don't half start to give people a bad reputation.
Phil 'in the no idea' Thompson, ha, what a chump. How's Sanchez settling in up there Phil?

Agree0 Disagree0

Well we have got a larger fan base than you ;-)

I've spent the last week in Máo, Menorca. I'm not 100 percent on this, but I think that Chelsea's very own Cesc Fabregas may have got a summer job in one of the restaurants on the harbour front. I unfortunately didn't get a photo, so you'll have to take my word!

I was thinking this. same with Reus, we're favourites ahead of team such as Barca and United who have had serious interest in him all season!
Is there any chance of signing another player such as Reus, Draxler or Griezmann ed?
