2-0 away win so close and yet so far. It was a strange and quite scrappy boring game in a way and you could see Bayern were unsure on how to approach the game and ended up stuttering through the game for the most part.

We played a decent solid away leg without actually playing that great (unlike the Milan 2nd leg return previously). We only created a small number of chances but put them away. It was a pity the 2nd did not come a lot sooner.

The ref was poor and certianly did not help our cause. He helped make it scrappy in the 2nd half and was conned a lot by the play acting and diving of the Bayern players. It was not a nasty game yet all those yellow cards, silly.

Back 4 played solid Jenkinson just about best player on pitch for us. Mert looks a lot more comfortable with Kosclieny alongside.

Arteta was safe, Carzorla in and out of game. Ramsey and Giroud worked hard, Rosicky faded as game went on. Walcott was very quiet and did not get invloved enough needs to buck up his ideas. Missed the drive of Wilshire and Podolski. I would have been inclined to give Diaby a run out in 2nd half to give some of that forward drive and commit players.

The Champions League - Where anything can happen.
Everyone loves the underdog coming back to win, shame the linesman doesn't. Couldn't believe they called Walcott offside, but that's life.

Good defensive display from Arsenal, they didn't let Bayern get any clear chances. Besides the Robben 1 on 1, I can't really remember them having any clear cut chances. People say Wenger doesn't have any tactics, but today's game I thought I could see it. The fact no defender really pushed up to pressure the constant Bayern long shots, maybe that was part of Wenger's tactics? Maybe there is a reason he chose to play Fabianski?

The biggest positive from the result, that will give us momentum going into last remaining games. We took our chances and hopefully we can do the same when we play Swansea.

All I wanted was for the team to put in a performance, and they certainly did that. Shame we couldn't win but after the abysmal performance in the first leg it doesn't come as a surprise.

This could kick-start the rest of our season, I for one hope to God that it does.

Well done lads!
Professional & disciplined performance, you just let yourself down on the 1st leg!

POSITIVES:

Koscieiny (why doesn't he play every week)
Mertesacker
(I have constantly slagged off him all season but he was imense toinght. decent defender next to him helped)
Jenkinson (brilliant, didn't put a foot wrong)
Gibbs (never guessed 1st game back)

The 1st time this season (apart from the 1st 4 or 5 games) where we looked like a well organised defensive unit!

Also was it just me. or did we mark man for man on corners?

It looked to me like we dropped the zonal marking crap!

I know Bayern were below par but all credit should go to the Arsenal tonight, unlucky boys!

Final note:

Proud of all players tonight but Theo. what the f**k was that performance?

WELL DONE BOYS

Well, that was a fantastic effort from everyone on the team! Can't fault anyone at all. Coming so close to beating probably one of the 2 best sides in the world over 2 legs is something to be proud of. Just a shame we only like to turn up for the second half of ties!

The defensive effort of the team was top quality; but it was especially pleasing to see the return of Bosscielny!

What's important now is that we use this as a building block for our Premier League form. Let's go and hammer the Swans on Saturday!

great game. it feels good to be proven wrong again and again. if arsenal can keep doing this till the end of the season I don't mind being wrong or looking like an ass at all.

we actually played defense as a team. gibbs and jenks look good at the back and on the wings. ox provided a spark. gervinho did what he could. not a bad display. giroud ran his heart out. not the most talented but he tries.

wally was lazy. he seemed to not have it in him to fight. midfield was good. we kept and covered spaces. Arsene if that was you. well played Sir.

Arteta showed his nerves last two tackles but good try. more of that desire is all we ask.

with our backs to the wall we seem to show up. the team is not all balls. time to get behind the team for 10 games. sing like you have never sung before gooners. lift the team finish on a high and let's take care of the offseason in the offseason.

Time for negativity is over. we have the momentum going into the epl. let's capitalise. lift the players. they need us. I don't think many gooners believed they could pull a win. including myself. so for all of you like me who were proven wrong. get behind the team and let's roll to 3rd.

Believable9 Unbelievable0

The entire game, you could hear the Arsenal fans singing and chanting! I heard them more than the Bayern fans.
Lets have that every game!

Gervinho didn't do his usual 'try to get past the same person 5 times in a row' routine. I thought he was very good in his cameo.

13 Mar 2013 22:02:27
Why does Wenger keep starting Ramsey, We could have played AOC on the left, allowing Cazorla to move more central. Theo was average. Actually except for the defenders and the keeper everyone was average. Our substitutes were the best players on the pitch.

I just wish we carry the same spirit into the domestic league chasing down Spurs and Chelsea.

On another note the referring was Poor yet again. Walcott was onside and if Nani's tackle was a red, so was Martinez.

Believable3 Unbelievable9

Ramsey played well AGAIN, what is the fascination with the Ox? He is not ready yet for these type of games

Agree3 Disagree1

It was a very strange game a lot of our players ahead of the back 4 were very average, Walcott was practically non existent and yet we won 2-0 away to a Bayern side that that hardly never lose at home. It was a not a vintage away performance like Madrid or Milan like I thought we would need and yet it will go down in the history books a a rare win by away side in Europe against Bayern.

I think Bayern you could see were not sure on how to approach the game and that played into our hands a little and made them a bit nervous. That's not to take away from our achivement to win away at Bayern is no mean feat but the victory was kind of flat.

Agree0 Disagree0

I though ramsey played superbly this match, he played much better in a more forward central position, and he was very effective at quickly pressing the opposition. Ramsey also showed some creativity on some of his dribbles. He always plays without fear, and tonight I felt he made a difference. I was unimpressed with arteta as he just doesn't provide enough drive going forward and really seemed to make some really poor tackles, especially at the end of the game. Something definitely changed with the back 4 tonight; monreal, sagna, and vermaelen must be worried.

Hello Ed and fellow Gooners, we can hold our heads high, hats off to the defense particulary Fabianski and Jenks. I felt we just didn't have that extra bit of quality, missed Jack big time. I don't want to put a downer on it, but like last year the damage was done in the first leg. It nows remains to be seen if we can get a Champions League spot.

Things that we've learned from tonights game vs Bayern :
1. Cazorla is rubbish
2. Sczechsny isn'tt good enough, Fabiansky is far more mature and simply better. Fact!
3. We conceded nothing without Vermaelen.
4. Giroud will be dynamite if he could be supplied. Unfortunately he didn't received enough support from midfield
5. Ramsey is ramsey.

Ultras Gunner.

Believable4 Unbelievable10

Cazorla is rubbish? are you deluded, he might not of had the best game on the ball but who did?
he worked hard, and stuck to his position. did what he had to do.

Agree6 Disagree2

1. Carzorla needs to be played in middle in the hole role like Arshavin before him. We are not getting the best from him out wide.

2. Fabianski is no way better Than Schenzy. He played O. k tonight one good save rest was routine and was lucky with one that went through him. Mixed bag. Still a No 2 for me. That is not to say Schenzy is the finished article either mind.

3. Mert does look more comfortable with Kos as Kos is faster so gives him that bit more insurance to push up with the others. TV still a good defender you don't lose that quality just is lacking in confidence at the moment.

4. Giroud needs to play with a partner in a 2 up top, I don't think we will get the best out of him in a 4-3-3. I am still reserving judgemnt on Giroud really for now.

5. Agreed Ramsey is just a workhorse really safe but not creative.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yep, cazorla is rubbish but Giroud will be dynamite. Santi has scored more than giroud playing in midfield.

Well finished with a 2-0 win. Brave performance and gave it good go. Pity the 2nd goal was not a bit sooner.

It was strange game really we did not create that many chances neither did Bayern really, few clear chances. Quite a scrappy game really. Ref was poor I thought and got duped into the play acting by Robben and Co.

At least it will give us a lift for the weekend now.

Please let this be the catalyst for us to go unbeaten in the league to the end of the season. Great performance, everyone played their hearts out. arsenal were organised, hard working (except walcott) and played with heart.
but the ref was awful, the amount of counter attacks we were on thanks to brilliant slide tackles, but no the ref for some reason thought it was a no slide game.
rosicky was playing a game in his own mind at times, just playin balls into areas where noone was there.
fabianksi didn't have much to do, but dealt with the shots on target well.
jenkinson was class, we have got sagna replacement.
kosc was le Boss.
mert did well.
gibbs also did very well.
arteta fought hard, worked hard, couldve been so much better in the last 5mins, needless tackles and poor fkik.
cazorla, shudv played centre, worked hard and moved the ball around well.
giroud also hard working, won so many flick ons, with no one gambling, someone really needs to gamble more (walcott).
walcott shudve worked harder, was onside, how that was given offside and messi yday was not given confuses me.
all in all i'm a proud gooner, but bayern over the 2 legs deserved to go through
now let's get 3rd.

Believable3 Unbelievable2

Yes I agree the ref was very poor tonight and very much duped by the blatent play acting and clever con tricks by the Bayern side. It made it a scrappy game and that suited Bayern as they did not seem to have the real drive and energy they had in first leg and just stuttered over the line.

Absolutely gutted, but what a performance by the team, before the game I must admit I had us written off. Jenkinson was brilliant tonight, especially the way he handled Robben, hope he keeps his place, he showed so much maturity especially when you compare him to senior players like Arteta who gave away so many silly fouls. I think we also learned that Mertesacker and Koscielny are our best defensive pair they have played well together on more than one occasion, and did so again tonight. Giroud took his first goal well, but I'm so tired of seeing him miss and stand for an age with his hands on his head, if we weren't so impotent upfront who knows what could of happened and Walcott was onside and clean through assistant referee got it all wrong. Hope we can carry the spirit we saw today into the league and play our hearts out like we did today.

It was -3 in Munich tonight and Wenger wasn't wearing that ridiculous coat if he doesn't need it then he never needs to wear it again.

Jenkinson has been the best player on the pitch for me today, stopped everything Robben has thrown at him.

Rosicky on the other hand, hasn't been playing too well in my opinion, he should come off for Chamberlain (If he's even on the bench).

This is not wishing injury on Jack but it is the truth.
My mate is a physio who specialises in sports related injuries and their rehabilitation. He says that Wilshere's career will be blighted with injuries to his right ankle due to his running style. I would urge you to watch a video of him and watch his feet and watch when he takes a free kick or corner. You will see that he runs on his ankles with his feet pointing inwards which puts to much stress and pressure on the ligaments in his legs and can also increase the risk of achillies tendon being snapped. If you see him kick a dead ball his right foot, the one that he had the 17 month injury on, totally buckles and turns so much that he is almost balancing on the side of his foot. If you done that now even for a few seconds you will feel pain. Unless he changes his style this injury is likely to happen more frequently as the ankle becomes weaker every time. I now this is quite hard to execpt but its true.
89'gooner

Believable3 Unbelievable3

I totally agree. Jack seems to run on the outside edge of his feet, and is also very slightly pigeon - toed. He doesn't run on the balls of his feet.
I can foresee future niggles and injuries. This lad needs nurturing and advising or we will lose another star player.

Agree2 Disagree0

But it was his right ankle that was injured previously, this time its the left. also beckham had the exact same technique, as do most set piece takers who start their run up from an angle.
i think you or your mate are looking too much into this.

Agree1 Disagree2

Funny that, was watching Messi last night he moves and is built exactly the same as jack and he does ok!

Agree0 Disagree0

Well arsenal have well paid physio's to do this job. their job is to keep him playing into his 30's. I think its just that he has been over played coming back from a serious injury. 3 weeks will do him good. just relax and heal. he is also 20 years old. so he will heal fast. if he was 27-28 I would be worried. but he will be fine.

The abuse is WRONG. No question of that!

Some prepubescent clowns abuse him/her and they take their ball and go home, spoiling the fun for everyone else. How puerile!

There are plenty of people that praise Ed002 and appreciate their knowledge on The Arsenal.

Concentrate on those people and ignore those invalids shouting abuse, they'll quieten down soon enough.

hello all, usually my posts are light-hearted and meant to get people to think and post their opinions. but today, as i'm scrolling down reading ppl's posts, I come across one from "mhc" about why Ed02 is not around any more.

apparently it is because he was receiving abuse and even death threats from arsenal fans on here telling him his info was a load of rubbish while Ed02 and all the Eds for that matter run this site as a favour to us.

now, I don't know about you but when I hear stuff like this I just want to vomit. WTF is wrong with some ppl? death threats? really? how miserable and insignificant is your life that you need to come on here and make other ppl's lives a hell hole? especially when no one is asking you to be here, everything is free!

whoever you are, I won't emulate your behaviour and send verbal abuse and death threats (seriously, grow up) but I hope you are happy with what your actions have accomplished, you ruined it for the rest of us and now Ed02 wants nothing to do with us. so thanks.

to Ed02, not sure if this will reach you, but on behalf of the gunners faithful I would like to apologise for those persons who harassed you and I hope that in time you decide to come back and share your insight with us because you are appreciated, as are all the Eds.

peace out {Ed007's Note - I will pass on your good wishes to Ed002. Believe it or not death threats etc are not uncommon, as the main Celtic editor I have had some abhorrent posts sent into, including people wish my wife be raped, who in their right mind can stoop to those types of levels? Sadly with Ed002 it was really getting out of hand, it is after all only a football forum.}

Hello Ed and fellow Gooners
First of all I really am sorry that ED2 does not want to have anything to do with this site anymore and I hope that the abuse he took does not reflect on the majority of people who post on here who are geniune Gooners and come on here to share their views, gripes, dreams and rumours.
To tonights game, the result I think depends how Bayern approach it mentally. If they are quiet happy to contain us and play out the 2nd leg negatively then perhaps 1-1 draw, but if they want to rub our noses in it, with us having to look for goals it could end up a bit of a tonking for us. Add the fact that we have injuries to Jack, Poldi and AW is allegely going to rest players, it could be a long night. I wonder what the reaction will be he rested players tonight and lost and then also lost to Swansea. Having said all this I have had a couple of quid on us to win 4-2 got 100 to 1 for that and also a few quid on us to go thru on penalties got 150 to 1 for that (YOU GOT TO HAVE SOMETHING TO HOLD ON TO). I not going to talk about team selection or tactics because we only seem to be able to play one way (RE-MANAGER), so Bayern won't have to build up a big dossier on us. All I hope that we give it ago and do ourselves proud whatever the result.
Thanks for the site Ed

These mental decisions of Wenger are merely preservative.

Hence Wilshere and Podolski are mysteriously injured and Szczesny is dropped. Rumours Cazorla and Walcott might not start either.

My theory is:

He doesn't think we can win the UCL. He doesn't want to play our best team just in case we do overturn this defeat adding to our fixture list a minimum of 2 more games. The likelihood we'd just go out anyway. This would hinder us in our run in for the all important 4th place trophy.

Resting players for the Champions League, so we can try are best to get top 4 to get in the Champions League. Hmmm.

Believable3 Unbelievable2

It does make sense seeing as this year we have minimal chance of winning it and more chance of being able to re-qualify next year and do it with a possibly better squad? and no this isn't arsene

Sounds like Wenger has thrown the towel in and it's an absolute disgrace. If he's resting our top players - who haven't played for 10 days. He's assembled this squad that can't cut it in any competition. He's sold anyone with any value and replaced them with lightweight, inexperience. This really does have to stop. It's got to the stage where other fans are beginning to pity us - and the rest are just laughing.
What's the point in qualifying if we just give up like this? Wengers words insult our intelligence. He doesn't respect us or the competition.
He's sacrificing the champion league so that we can enhance our chances of qualifying for the champions league next season - It's perverse!
What happens if we lose against Swansea?
This season is becoming a farce.
If we accept this then we are supporters of a business model and not a football club.

Picture this, we pull off a miracle and win 3-1 tonight, then in the penalty shoot out Mannone saves 2 of their pens and becomes an instant Arsenal legend!

We can dream, but got to be worth a £1 bet. I remember having a pound on us a few years back when we beat RM at their place against all odds, had the correct score as well so won about £100.

Better off putting the pound on lucky dip for tonights lottery.

Reliable Source tell me Arsenal is going for Richards, Capoue, Sanogo.
Hummels, Gotze, Lewandovski and Adler. Wanayama. Jovetic. And ofcourse there are backup targets as Ruffier, Vela, Williams, Eriksen, Aurier, Thiago, Sanchez, Villa, Rami, Bender and a a lot more. But knowing Wenger he will choose the cheapest deal!

Believable3 Unbelievable11

So a brand new squad then

Agree3 Disagree1

I'm sure Dortmund will sell 3 of the very best players to us in 1 window. Seriously why even bother posting such tripe? I bet your some fat smelly World of Warcraft playing person wh tries to get kicks with 'false' insight. Pathetic.

Has anyone ever imagined what the Eds might look like, I've always mentally pictured them as overweight and middle aged.

You need to get out more or that's how you'll end up!

Eds perhaps you can answer me something. Or maybe this will just get swept under the rug. Why isn't Ed02 contributing to the page anymore? This seems to be cutting his nose off to spite his face. This site will only continue to interest people if they think there is genuine info coming out of it and Ed02 seems to be the one with the most info. I read that apparently he got insulted and some death threats etc. but who cares? We've all been there and had that. Just need to man-up and be thicker skinned. I know you all do this as a favour to us and I'm not for a second condoning that sort of behaviour. However I've had people tell me online they hope my grandparents die of cancer, questioned the legitimacy of my parentage etc. So what?

Believable11 Unbelievable4

Mhc,

First off as you know the Ed's volunteer their time to run this site, yeah they have the info we all want to hear, however, in Ed02's case, he was busy, he stated time and time again when he gets the time he will let us know what's going on, the abuse etc is completely out of order, there is absolutely no need for it, would you want to have abuse day on day aimed at you and yours, doubt it very much, the ed's are doing a great job on this site, if Ed02 doesn't want anything to do with the Arsenal page its his choice, the mindless few mess things up for the majority of us, pathetic

The site does exactly what it says on the tin; arsenal rumors and banter. eds can come and go as they please

Agree3 Disagree3

Ah trolling can't live with it or without it. beauty of life.

not everyone is born thick skinned. Some have patience to last a century. some have a bomb waiting to explode. let's just leave it at that.

Agree2 Disagree0

I don't understand how they volunteer to run this site as surely the advertisng that comes up on the pages is paid for. {Ed029's Note - None of the Eds are paid. The advertising is there to cover hosting costs and that sort of thing.}

Agree2 Disagree0

If I was taking the time out from my own personal time to pass on and assist other fans with knowledge on our great club, and then I got abused and criticised when that info didn't get posted quick enough. I would tell everyone to get stitched too!

Im gutted ed002 is no longer contributing as I was more than happy to wait for his info, wished he hadn't, but don't blame him in the slightest.

the ed's do this site for us, not for themselves so let's let them get on with it and enjoy the site, they will fill us in in due course as that's the hole point of the site, so simply

sit back
lay off
enjoy the site
if not
**** off
simples!

Szczesny has been rested for tonights game because he is "mentally affected by the amount of games he has to play" Is this for real? He's the number 1 goalkeeper, does he not expect to play every game? Never heard of Cech or Hart complaining about something like that, its ridiculous.
Whatever sliver of hope we had of winning the game has now gone, you can't go to Munich and turn over a 2 goal deficit with your second choice goalkeeper not to mention we're missing Wilshere and Podolski.
I'm afraid to say I think tonight is going to be another embarrassment. But hopefully it will be the motivation the team needs to keep pushing for 4th in the league because I genuinely think we can still take it. Although monkey man is on a good run of form for the spuds, he does have dry spells through the season and if he hits one of those they'll struggle to get goals.

Hardly a revelation - but just watched an 'expert' on tv news. Looking at all success factors for a football team, the most important by far is - how much you pay the top players (not the manager). Next is length of service of the manager. We're sorted for the latter, but have torpedoed our chances when it comes to the single most important factor.

Yeah he's got an ankle injury, likely to be out for up to 3 weeks

3 weeks. naive ppl.

and diaby is on a holiday

Agree3 Disagree0

3 weeks is the time released by the club in their official statement but we all know it could be longer. Tanksfully its not the same ankle as before, and its just bruising. They are resting him to prevent the injury getting worse.
