It's the raver coming through in his German whip blacked out windows chilling out on his way to Stringfellows to get smashed on becks and hoffmeister after giving Dortmund the runaround. R. G. Did you enjoy watching spurs cruising against the mighty Germans with the best finisher in the league scoring whenever he wants again. I hope you enjoy your night against the German minnows tomorrow R. G. beep.

4 wins 1 draw for the premier league clubs on champions league match day one, its got to be the most positive start for years from our clubs.

How much did you pay the lineo's tonight Raver? Shocking. At least you won at Wembley.

Oh dear raver61, how embarrassing finally celebrating a win at Wembley. To think our last two matches at Wembley ending with us winning two trophies. Remember those things, trophies? Of course not as the toot have failed to win any for nearly a decade and none in your short lifetime. It's amusing when one realises that we have won as many League titles at the home of pain as the toot have in their entire history!
The time to celebrate is when you actually win a trophy. As we well know the pain at the lane and Wembley just goes on.1961 and waiting. Approaching 6 decades of abject failure. No wonder you can't help stalking us gooners, in the vain hope that you might actuallly learn what it is like to support a team that wins trophies.

Ancelotti might be looking for work next summer if the rags are to be taken seriously. Should we consider him to replace Arsene? He's had success all over the place. Maybe Arsene would move upstairs and Carlo could take over the manager's spot?

There won't be a vacancy at Arsenal next summer as Arsene has a 2 year deal as our manager.
If Arsene is going to move upstairs and run the club from there he may as well just continue for another decade in the dugout.

The only way for change to be worth its name is for Arsene to leave the club for a few years and possibly return once his dominance has gone.

Fair play, probably a pipe dream especially in light of the club's history of seeing out every last moment of its employees' contracts. But question still stands, say if Ancelotti had a year's sabbatical Pep-style: suitable successor to Arsene?

I would love to see Ancelloti manage us. Somehow when Wenger is finally no longer our manager I can't see him moving 'upstairs'. I have a feeling that he may manage the French national team when he eventually departs and after that he will probably be in his mid-70's, when he may wish to give something back to football by heading acadamies in under-privileged regions of the world, combined with media work.

To be fair i would be delighted with Ancelotte but then again there aren't many managers I wouldn't be happy to see right now.
I would welcome change but accept it isn't going to happen for two years absolute minimum.

What continues to baffle me is some of the players that Wenger let go or would have let go this summer:
Out: Gabriel and Oxlade
Would have let go: Giroud, Mustafi, Chambers, Wilshere, Debuchy and Elneny.
I fully understood why he let Gibbs and others go.
Thoughts?

Perhaps we had replacements had they have gone.

We have better players than them in the squad, all have question marks against them and some players are strangling our wages bill. We still didn't manage to get rid of most of them anyway.

I think he has and has always had his eyes on next season as much as this one.
Sanchez and Ozil will be going and I think he plan was to clear out get some cash stashed away ready for a big response to their leaving.
People just haven't played ball as he had hoped they would so far and I think January may well see more departures.
Our biggest ever spend next summer would lead to new optimism and possibly to get another new contract for Arsene.

Oxlade Chamberlain was never good enough. 9 goals in six seasons is pretty dire. Even Gervinho had a better goal scoring record. 1 year left on his contract with 35m on the table, I thought it was a pretty simple decision.

Gabriel was never a world class defender. He has never been a regular at Arsenal and always seemed like a accident waiting to happen. Was a risky signing who didn't work out.

Giroud is a good striker. The game against Leicester shows his worth. Never going to be our number one striker. But one of the best in the air. Good option from the bench especially when teams are defending deep. Sometimes you just need to cross it in the box.

Chambers has had solid game time playing for middlesborough. I don't know how well he performed but he was a starter for the U21 for England. Maybe not a upgrade to Gabriel but did well in his early Arsenal career. Probably his last chance this season but I think he's worth the risk, still young but more experienced than last year.

Wilshire is injury prone and on 90k a week. No one will look to invest in him. To be fair to him when he signed the contract he was showing some real promise. Unfortunately for him injuries have blighted his career. Probably get realsed at the end of the season.

Debuchy has been out of the first team so long it's probably difficult for teams to sign him. To be fair to him he was france number 1 and looked like a really good replacement for sagna. Bellerin form means he wasn't missed at all but always going to be difficult to move him.

Mustafi is a German international. Started off brilliant last season but probably lacks the leadership. He was horrible against munich but so was a lot of players. Probably a 3rd choice defender at best but still think he adds value.

Elneny is solid, sometimes you need players in a squad that will give you a 7/ 10. Will never be a regular but I think he is a good back up.

True Derby but people will be happy if we buy two new big name players.
We may be no better off on paper but morale wise new players bring new optimism.
All fans of all clubs get excited by new players and the bigger the names the bigger the buzz, this is where Aresnal and Arsene went badly wrong for so many summers of not spending, they allowed the enthusiasm fade by not feeding it and have done exactly the same this summer too.

The difference between this summer and next is Arsene has breathing space because if his shinny new contract but next summer with the months ticking by he will need to win friends and influence people to stay on past this current contract.
Can't see him calling it a day willingly now or in 2 years time he is adicted to the game.

It was a funny one for us ed. we never got that player in the middle of the park we so badly need. But at the begging of the Summer we were told lacazette and sort out lb/ lwb would be addressed and Sanchez stayed most Arsenal fans would have been happy but it's how it unfolded throughout the summer and how we reacted slowly or the fact that we only ever seen to be reactive and not proactive and the fact it turned out like it did was more by crook than hook! Hard to argue with the assessment really.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - it was a really difficult one to assess. In fact all of them were to be honest as no one recruited exactly what they wanted.}

I do think our CMF situation is going to be not only the thing that gets totally exposed through out the season but along with the defensive problems we've had for years will be the pundits favourites subject every time we get beat.
Personally I'm shocked we have gone with Xhaka and Ramsey as our preferred choice after what happened last season, it just seems so obviously weak and unlikely to deliver.

And as always ed the season will ultimately give the final grade . Arsenal are more than capable of a top four finish with the personnel we have at our disposal . The problem is much the direct union.
