Do you think there is a chance we sign carvalho before the window ends?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - i think arsene is playing the waiting game HG, and if the price is right he may go for it, the nearer the deadline comes the more itchy the feet of carvalho will become to move, the downside of that is if utd fail to get vidal, they may snap him up..

I think that most players, if given that choice at present, would choose us over United. Although I'm sure I heard somewhere that Carvalho is a United fan.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Aug 2014 22:12:12
I know Ed that's why I wouldn't expect a move this summer but it wouldn't surprise me if a move was made in next summer

Pulis leaves Palace, that is a shock. Can only be good for us

Believable0 Unbelievable0

14 Aug 2014 22:22:12
He was that scared!

Happy days great news. Wont change the palace game plan though. They'll play for a point.

14 Aug 2014 22:05:28
You beat me to it Bambam.

Let's hope their caretaker manager has the hump Saturday night.

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally agree mate on both shock and good news for us, no hint last Sunday when a pundit at Wembley. What happened?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - issues over transfer policy i believe G62..

14 Aug 2014 22:45:01
Pulis was upset they didn't move for Gylfi Sigurdsson and Steven Caulker.

Shame, blooming good manager who did a great job at Palace last season.

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks Ed025, you'd think they'd sort these things out much earlier in the summer either way.
Would give the manger chance to find another job and club a new manger, or is that to sensible for football?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - it does seem that way G62 mate..

I bet he resigned so he can manage spurs. you know . when they sack Pochettino before Christmas.

Just caught up on today's posts.

Who is Pudniw? (Windup)

And no it wasn't me, lol.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - the case continues..

You've got to admit Dags you are the prime suspect, you do have previous and its got your prints all over it.
I'm not accusing you of anything but I think its you definitely :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Aug 2014 21:50:02
Mate, if I was a copper I would arrest myself.

But, I promised Ed007 I wouldn't do it again.

Not me I promise.

14 Aug 2014 22:02:22
I think someone got it right earlier, just a spurs fan

Agree0 Disagree0

Dags I want to believe you but I'm afraid my sense of fun just won't allow me to do so.
So I put it to you Mr Dirk Dagala that on the afternoon of the 14th you did knowingly assume the identity of pudwin, if you plead not guilty but are found to be so you will be dealt the maximum sentence permissible of one season watching spurs both home and away.
How do you plead?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - come come MR dagala, thats all just a tissue of lies m,lord..

14 Aug 2014 22:54:11
My wife appeared in court last week for stealing a tin of peaches.

Judge> "How many peaches were in the tin?,"

Mrs Dag's> "4 your Honour".

Judge> ", Than I sentence you to one month in prison for every peach".

Me>" " Don't forget she also stole a tin of peas".

Love her really.
Might go and visit her tomorrow.

I'm Charles and Banbury is Marcus. Jenny is also a lovely historical name with 'posh' undertones.

G62, you had to spoil it all by being called John.

How common, lol. :-)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I know what you mean Dags mate, my parents were going to call me scott but changed their minds.
I wish they'd never told me, I came that close to sharing my name with my childhood hero Thunderbird one himself Scott Tracy, that would have been F.A.B.

Just got back from taking the grandkids to the beach, horrific day.
We just got settled on the sand when this couple started having a right go at each other.
He was shouting at her and her at him all the kids on the beach started screaming it was terrible.
Next thing I know she's got a hammer and hit him on the head with it, then out of nowhere a policeman turned up and started hitting her with his truncheon, then to top it all off a crocodile came out of the sea and ate the policeman.
What an afternoon :-)

When are we going to sign our Gilberto Silva c2014?

Without a DM it's going to be a stretch to do well in either CL or the PL marathon - think away games on a 4-5-1.

Is anything going to be done? Just to replay the record, Flamini is all we've got to do that role half decently. I'd even take tiote i'm that desperate. Any news beyond the twittersphere?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

A DM is the final piece to the puzzle.

Let's hope Arsene has a trick up his sleeve.

14 Aug 2014 16:58:02
Good afternoon everyone

I've just returned from a remote little village in France where there was no TV, newspapers, phone signal nor wi-fi. Seriously. Only found out the Community shield result this morning at Stansted and thought the geezer was winding me up.

So apologies if going over the same ground.

Catching up on posts and videos of the game, what a confidence boost for the youngsters. No disrespect to Palace but I bet a few of them were wishing we were playing Chelsea or Mancs away first game.

My boy got all excited about the Cavani rumours, can't see that happening at all. According to some reports he's on a measly 300k a week. That's where it ends I believe. Got to admire an 11 year olds spirit though by saying "but dad, we're Arsenal"

Really good to see so many on the football fantasy league. Will bring an added bit of excitement this year.

And lastly just for Dags

splashed on some old spice this morning. I always knew Mel B was a dirty sort.

Be lucky.

Thanks Jenny :-) I have enough trouble impersonating me most of the time let alone trying to multi task.
But there is one person who's been conspicuous by his absence all day?

Arsene Wenger has come out and said that Koscielny has a knock on his Achilles but "should be fine to play on Saturday."

Therefore, off the back of another post, no Germans will play for another week or so.

Calum Chambers should partner Koscielny against palace and Besiktas.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

14 Aug 2014 21:20:42
Let's hope its sufficient mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Aug 2014 15:35:08
Not a transfer rumour just banter for Dags,

So basically Harry Redknapp has been talking about Loic Remy has been "training hard" and "showing good attitude" since his failed move to Liverpool.

Obviously Dags let him out of the sex dungeon long enough for him to attend training.

Redknapp went on to say that QPR didn't want to sell him and that he's worth £20m (even though he has got a release clause which Liverpool met with an £8.5m bid).

This leads me to believe he is desperately advertising him for sale with a bit of reverse pyschology.

So Dags, can you see a deadline day move for LR?!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

14 Aug 2014 19:32:10
Greeny,

I wish mate. I still think he could do a good job for us.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Aug 2014 14:45:38
“He can play central midfield as well as he has good technique, great mobility and is a good good distance runner. It is where I can have a look at him.”

“He was educated as central midfielder and then played with England under-19 at centre-back and right-back for Southampton and that is where I saw him the first time against us and I liked him.”

The manager followed up these comments in an article on the club’s official website, stating: “[Chambers] can play a major role because in what I observe he has the qualities to impose himself in this part of the team. I believe he can play in defensive midfield and that’s where I see him.”

Some fans from work were saying to me "he's only played a few games, you've massively over paid for him."

Then came the emirates cup and community shield, few would have anticipated what an impression he would make on not just Arsenal fans but football fans all over the country.

Who would have though 12 months ago that Lahm would be used as a defensive mid? Who would have fathomed that a full back could play in the center of the park, in one of the most physically demanding positions on the pitch? Not many people.

£16m for a full back/CB who is potentially a world class talent is a risk, and he's proved a lot of people wrong if his early performances are anything to go by. But £16m for a DMF/RB/CB seems a lot less of a risk and more of a smart investment of dare I say it, the next Lahm?

Praise be Wenger. A genius among mere mortals. He's done it again.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - good post that akie mate..

I understand he has found a gem, and he does find plenty of them, even sanogo has impressed me.

but its still early days.

the issue with young players is not their talent but rather achieving their potential.

jack is right now in that category.

many may disagree but I find ravel morrison having all the qualities to make it to the top of the pile, but his head is just not screwed on, and it seems about 99.9% certain he will just be failure with the potential he has.

not putting chambers in that category, right now he is a major addition, but if he can't keep it up to get thru to where we want to see him, it will be as bad as signing andre santos.

but so far soo good.

Agree0 Disagree0

Let's give the lad a chance. A bit early for Lahm comparisons.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Aug 2014 14:29:17
Who are we going to sign if anyone?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

14 Aug 2014 14:03:52
I can't believe after such a fantastic transfer window we are going to start the premier league season with a CB of either;

A) A not 100% nursing an injury Koscienely

or

B) A 2nd choice LB that many wouldn't shed a tear over if he left the club.

This to partner a recently signed youngster (albeit a promising one) who's also the subject of much debate of where his best position actually is.

This is unacceptable and should have been addressed weeks ago. We knew Mertersacker wasn't going to be available for the Palace game and we knew even before the Barca bid that Tommy V had come back from the world cup injured, rendering him also unavailable had he still been here. Lady luck has really been a b!tch hitting us where we're short already before the season starts!

I don't like Tony Pulis, I don't like his teams and I don't like his style of anti-football. Though I have to give him credit, Arsene drops points against him. On paper you would expect us to roll over Palace and we most likely will but why give him a glimmer of anything to exploit?

A silver lining may be that this will accelerate any move for a CB and hopefully this will be the only match of the season we are in this predicament but come on Arsene if your going to give us a mind blowing transfer window finish the job mate!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - how many players do you want him to sign guys?...there is a limit of 25 you know!..im sure arsene knows better than us what is needed, so cut him some slack people..and trust in arsene..

On that would have loved us to sign caulker, at 8 mill as a back up/promising english CB, feel we really missed the boat on that one.

Agree0 Disagree0

I am a huge Arsene fan ed025 and have never been one of the Arseneout brigade. I just don't want to see all the good work undone by not addressing an area that has been an issue for awhile.

The four signings are replacements for outgoing players taking squad places so that shouldn't be an issue

Bendtner/sanchez
Sagna/Debuchy
Fabianski/Ospina
Chambers/Vermalen (who at 19 might not need be registered)

We rode our luck last season in defence in regard to injuries with 3cbs and Sagna as cover. This season we should have always been looking to strengthen there, even before anyone left.

Around 2 weeks left or so of the Transfer Window and I'm confident we're not done yet but its really unfortunate that with record amounts of money spent so far this window, we're starting our first game of the EPL with a makeshift center half pairing.

Pulis knows it, will try to expose it and if we let them nick a goal first we'll be playing a nice neat line of 11 players between the palace posts.

Agree0 Disagree0

Your right Ed25, however look at the amount we have let go, and the VERM was always going to happen, personally I would like another understudy like chamber as I believe he will be immense at CB for the future and have bellerini (sorry for spelling) as back up RB.
but we do need a replacement for verm as Miguel and nacho are not good enough for CB at arsenal.

I know everyone on this page including myself is complaining that we don't have proper DM, and it is a very good point, but comparing to this time last year the team with its new additons has showed serious signs of improvemnt, on top of that nobody knows the Arsenal players like Arsene Wenger and if he believes that Arteta is good enough to be the DM in this team then you have just got to support him, after all he is the longest serving manager in the league and is The Arsenals most successful maneger in history, during pre season Ramsey was talking about how good the Harmony in the squad was and that it had never been better since he was at arsenal, if somebody like pogba (who was already troublesome at Man utd) came in, it may jeprodise squad harmony, I think wenger is taking everything into consideration here, on top of that he sees chambers as the man to take over artetas position, and judging by pre season, I think he could go on to be an Arsenal legend. I still hope we sign a CB who can cover DM too, but as a club we have always developed players and never blocked underage talent from coming through like chelski and city, any true gooner knows that we run our club in the right way and we won't turn into a plastic club like those named above just for a a trophy here or there. The way Arsenal is run is for long term sustanabilty and we will see in 20+ years time that chelski and city are the thing of the past and it will be Arsenal and Utd challenging for top honours again. Arsenal are about three things, History, Tradition and class and I for one would take that ahead of a short period of success anyday.

Lets play a game, someone posts a player and you rate how good the signing would be out of 100.
For example I'd say a player, like Cavani, then someone would reply a number between 1 and 100 of how good it would be.
For me Cavani would only be 42, I think he's great but not for 51million.
Ill get us started by saying Manolas.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Wilshere minus 10

Agree0 Disagree0

I feel like this game would work better if it were just out of ten.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Aug 2014 15:05:51
Cavani 70
Manolas 35

Agree0 Disagree0

60 he is decent back up but wouldn't immediately be pushing per and kos for a starting spot.

Khedira

Agree0 Disagree0

Ben Arfa 60

Mbia 60

rojo 70

Lavezzi 70

Agree0 Disagree0

Khedira 78, I would love to see him.
Ulster, i'd have Rojo at 76/77, He would be a great signing, as for Ben Arfa, i'd have him at 46 because I don't think he's the right player for us.
Ted, its all about the accuracy :-p

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Aug 2014 12:37:03
When my agent told me arsenal were interested I said yes straight away. There was no question, no debate, no doubt, nothing!
You don't turn down a club like Arsenal. A lot of players would like to be in my shoes right now.

Matheu Debuchy

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Fortunately (or unfortunately) for Arsenal it's the only club foolish enough to invest. Newcastle done good!

Agree0 Disagree0

Read that on the website, he's said all the right things and seems to be an excellent signing.

Sagna was a great servant to our club but the fact that Debuchy has come in and settled so quickly means Sagna leaving hasn't even become a talking point.

Agree0 Disagree0

Pud, that's extremely harsh IMO. I think Debuchy is a good solid signing and in this team, we will do very well.

Agree0 Disagree0

Just personal opinion and maybe to be proved wrong but weren't great at NUFC nor what I have seen for France. Sagna for me was second best RB in league (after Everton's Coleman).

Agree0 Disagree0

He is a good signing without a doubt

Agree0 Disagree0

I wouldn't have even dignified that with a response Greeny. though maybe I just Did?

Agree0 Disagree0

Like I say I may be proved wrong BUT to me a "good signing" is one that improves the squad (and if "replacing" then that improvement needs to be net of in v out). Now Sanchez improves by shear quality, Chambers improves by depth, and Ospina from what I have seen at the very least covers his out (Fabianski), but I really challenge anyone who thinks Sagna was not a better RB than Debuchy! And what's more the better player goes to a premiership rival! At least ship him off abroad I say.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - ase you saying you want a player that does not want to be here pud?...

At least now we are buying the finished products like debuchy rather than depending on young inexperienced players. 3-4 years back we culdnt afford to buy an rb for 12 mill!

Agree0 Disagree0

But that doesn't mean spend 12m on one arguably not worth 12m. We will see and happy to be eating my words come season end. Will be happy to say I'm wrong if I am. To me no better than Jenkinson tho

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - but are you just being a pudniw merchant?.. :)

Got there eventually! Now seriously, whilst I am truly not a "massive" fan of the Frenchman and believe there were alternates hopefully he will settle and work with the quality around him, and I am proved wrong!

Agree0 Disagree0

There is a lot of talk about the Germans not being available this weekend. Most of the Bayern and Dortmund internationals either played or came of the bench last night in the German super cup. Why should we not do the same with ours. We have missed a trick here our Germans need more time off than Neuer, Gotze etc

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I've said it before and I will say it again, every other league in Europe, if not the world, has a mid season break. We don't.

Why risk the unfit Germans coming back too quickly? That is why we've suffered injuries (and especially long term set back injuries) in the past.

We can get by without Poldi for now, we even dare I say it, have the players to cover Ozil. Mertesacker for me is the player we will miss as we haven't got any cover other than Chambers. If Koscielny is ok for Saturday then I would rest all three Germans and maybe even for the first leg qualifier.

We have to think long term mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Aug 2014 12:42:16
Well said Greeny

Agree0 Disagree0

The germans should not play on the weekend, get the up to speed in training and then add them to the matchday squad.

ramsey, Cazorla, Alexis, Giroud, Ox, Arteta, Gibbs, debuchy, chambers and even monreal at CB would be good enough to start the season.

if we seem to struggle we can always bring them off the bench but we should not risk any of our players to start it off.

Agree0 Disagree0

Cazorla. NO!!
He's too small
lol

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree with responses. I just think it may be worth have PM4 on the bench just in case something happens to Koscielny or Chambers. I definitely wouldn't start any of them and only use him if a real problem occurs which shouldn't happen against Palace.

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally agree Dr Green the season is a marathon not a sprint, the Everton game is the earliest we should think of playing them and the 2nd leg qualifier only if necessary ( hopefully all done bar the shouting in first one )

Agree0 Disagree0

Podolski hardly played, Per didn't play every game and Ozil was subbed on near every occasion. They are fit enough to be on the bench at the very least, surely.

3-5-2 has now become the latest "fashionable formation" after several successful teams used it at the World Cup. Manchester United will be deploying it under LVG.

3-5-2 has it's benefits sure, you can drop 5 at the back of you're under the cosh, you can flood a 3 or 4 man opposition midfield with 5 players using your wing backs. You have an outright number 10 and of course, the luxury of two strikers up top. I still feel Arsenal need to play four defenders with one DFM, 2x CM, 3 x Attacking players and a striker up top. This would be a 4-1-2-3-1 that is essentially 4-3-3 also.

We all know that Arsenal won't play 3-5-2 because that would actually require us to have THREE centre backs!

What are everyone's thoughts on formations?

Greeny, 4 1 2 3 1 means you have no keeper. Glad your not my accountant! You would need to drop one of your CM's or attacking players but agree otherwise.

Agree0 Disagree0

4-1-2-3-1? No space for Szczesny? :/

Agree0 Disagree0

Lol that has made me laugh Greeny. I think like you say we need to stick with the 4-3-3. Get the DM in and build the foundation from that.

Liverpool played it last year and had to change back to a flat back four. The problem with wing backs is that your always going to get hit on the counter and get exploited on the sides. Thinking Utd will struggle if they play 3-5-2 the whole season. Just have to play 2 vs 1 against the wing back and the whole formation will crumble

Agree0 Disagree0

My thoughts are 4-1-2-3-1 means we have one to many players on the park.

Agree0 Disagree0

4-1-2-3-1?
In that formation are we not ganna play wit a GK?

Cuz if we do we'll b having 12 players on th field.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think you'd do an amazing job to get your 12 men on the pitch in a 4-1-2-3-1 formation.

Agree0 Disagree0

Never been a big fan of the 3-5-2 formation Greeny. I like to watch football dominated by attacking players, so the idea of having 5 defensive players on the pitch leaves me cold. Unless of course the 2 wing backs were Theo and Sanchez style wingers rather than converted full backs. I think a manager would be brave to try that though!

Agree0 Disagree0

Ha! I'm a doctor not a mathematician!

Apologies! We're so good we don't need a goalkeeper, but you catch my drift?! Ish?!

Agree0 Disagree0

That's why we have pharmacists to count the pills Greeny -:)

Agree0 Disagree0

Indeed YYC! It's been a long night on shift! That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!

Agree0 Disagree0

3-5-2 requires a lot of tracking back by the wingers, and absolute concentration on the task.

a player getting past the wingback means the central defender has to come out wide taking his positional advantage away, if you have a speed demon in the middle then the task gets even harder.

the way the game is going, especially with defenders turning into strikers and strikers turning into one hit wonders, having a backline to handle the pressure and spread the pitch is vital.

Dani Alves bombing down for barca does not have the advantage it once had about 4-5 years ago.

bayern also faltered many times with the same strategy.

while LVG has won all his pre season games I don't think most united fans will agree they have been outstanding.

while I do agree if they land Vidal they would have a player who plays on both ends with an abundance of energy and will drop deep to cover any lapses from central defenders.

my formation of choice is 4-1-4-1

however this relies on havig a striker upfront who has an abundance of pace to use the wing play, or a striker who can bring the midfield into play while creating a open midfield with interchanging positions.

What happens if both kos and per end up both out at the same time this season? If we get one of manolas or agger they would be paired up with chambers, we might get by for a game or 2 against lower opposition but would never survive a tough run of games against the top teams.
We pushed our luck a bit last season and any injuries weren't too bad but it's my biggest area of concern.

But it is Thursday so that means we are going to sign someone right?

My money is on manolas.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I don't think its sustainable to have more than 3 'first team' centre backs because central defenders are not rotated and rested like other positions. In my opinion you need 3 centre backs who are essentially good enough to be first team regulars and you also need players in the squad who can cover there (either youngsters or players who play other positions)

Agree0 Disagree0

If we end up with two 1st choice CBs injured without adequate cover then Wenger will be lynched!

He would not have sold Vermaelen without having a deal in place or close to it. All clubs have a replacement in line before agreeing to sell.

We signed Debuchy but it wasn't announced until Newcastle had concluded a deal for Daryl Janmaat.

He simply MUST have someone in mind, especially as Koscielny has an Achilles injury. All we do know is that Wenger has until Midday on Friday to register someone in time for the palace game.

Morning Eds, Gents and Jen,

Question for you all;

If you had to choose one last signing to make in this transfer window and you had to choose between Javi Martinez or Edison Cavani who would people choose?

Play OG up top with Martinez as the DM

OR

Play Cavani up top with Arteta or Flamini playing the DM role?

This has probably been asked before, sorry of it has.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I would take Javi Martinez, not Cavani. I feel that we have good amount of goals with our current attackers. And we need to address what we lack first.

Watched the Dortmund vs Munich game last night and it looked like Martinez has done some damage to his cruciate ligaments.

But think I would be happier with a true DM and have kind of hoped we got Carvalho.

However I would love to go with Robbie Gooner and really break the bank for Pogba but he would seem a dream to far.

Agree0 Disagree0

One last. I'll choose Javi. He'll give Ramsey a bit more confidence to go forward & can also cover for us at CB.

Martinez is exactly the kind of player we need. He will give the team more balance and help us win the top 6 mini-league we had problems with last year.

Agree0 Disagree0

Cavani as Martinez is injured for 7 months

Dags, you mentioned the other day that when Arsenal were struggling financially due to the constraints of the stadium etc the clubs like Manchester United and Man City hovered like vultures and plucked our players.

You have to remember though, we do exactly the same!

Case in point, Malaga were in desperate financial trouble and we bought Santi Cazorla for a measly £12m which was way below his actual value. Malaga had to except due to the financial burden on them.

Although we do have morals and standards, we are also guilty of doing the dirty on other clubs too.

You know the words Greeny let's sing along. Ha Ha :-)

{Ed025's Note - love it golds..

Yes we sold players but if you can name more than one who wasn't sold for way above their true value you'll be doing well. I particularly enjoyed the Adebayor transfer £££

Agree0 Disagree0

Theirry Henry, Patrick Vieira, Gael clichy and RVP Even considering his age. what I call way above there value is what liverpool paid newcastle for a horse essentially (Andy Carroll)

Not arsenal related, but Southampton have apparently agreed a fee with Hull for Shane Long for £12m!

It can't just be me who thinks that this is an outrageous bit of business from Hull! They must have been laughing all the way to the bank.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

A great bit of inflated value business from Hull. They signed him for less than half that I think?

Southampton just need players in and Hull have taken advantage with their valuation.

Bit like us with Vermaelen!

Agree0 Disagree0

Shane longs the village bike! Except I heard they are thinking of getting welbeck, think I would rather have long

We've been linked to welbeck, nani, Smalling, Cleverley, Kalou etc all summer! Luckily it's all speculation BS!

Imagine how much of a buzz kill it would be off the back of Ozil and Alexis coming in we signed Kalou!

G62 and Jenny,

I am impressed with your guesses at my name. G62 I can confirm my name is not 'who'

However, Jenny you are weirdly close as I was going to be called Michael but at the last minute my parents changed their mind. About the name, not about having me as their child. Obviously.

Anymore guesses?

{Ed025's Note - professor george green....it just sounds right..

Gary Green MD?

I didn't study for seven years at medical school to be called Professor! It's Doctor Green and no alliteration in my name Ed!

So on this day, 18yrs ago in 1996, Arsenal signed someone called Patrick Vieira.

One of the greatest ever Arsenal players and captains in my opinion. Apart from Gilberto Silva who came close, I don't think he's ever been replaced.

We need that exact type of player. But who?!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agree with that

C² =UCL

In case you'all wondering what's C², well it simply means
Carvalho * Cavani
lol

Believable0 Unbelievable0

£51 Million we can afford, we know this
£300K a week, never going to happen

Agree0 Disagree0

We've been link with both. We lacking both. Cavani doesn't wanna play on the wing. If they sign Di Maria, Cavani can b sold, we can get him, he'll be happy playing center forward once again on a regular plus we have tons of players waiting to assist him. He'll take a bit of a paycut. Lol

Agree0 Disagree0

Am I the only one who doesn't rate Cavani at £51m? From what I've seen of him, he could turn into the next Torres £50m flop.

I'd rather spend £20-25m on Reus and him and Alexis can run the left side and up top alternating!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - im not a fan either greeny..

14 Aug 2014 09:25:45
Draxler. That is all, return to your regular business.

Agree0 Disagree0

I prefer Reus too, but doesn't look like he'll b leaving this summer (hope am wrong). Just makin banter out of who we've been linkd wit recently. Look at my previous posts.
Signing Reus wil mean using either Walcott or Sanchez as th forward. So my pick would b Sanchez to lead th line up. Very fluid & a joy it'll b to watch. 20+ goals from each of them.

I know this has been a good window so far, and that a lot of Gooners are very optimistic about this upcoming season, as am I. But I have to be honest, If we do not sign a top CB and CDM, we will not challenge for the title.

I think we have more than enough firepower upfront compared to last season. Sanchez, Campbell and Walcott add to last season. We also have more than enough creativity in midfield. I also feel our GK situation is finally sorted.

But without an experienced CB and top CDM we won't able to sustain a title challenge over 38 games. Last year we cut it pretty fine with only 3 CBs. Chambers cannot be relied on to cover as 3rd choice CB, he's only 19 and also covering RB. We need a replacement for TV5. Manolas? Surely a step backwards. Wenger needs to get someone to push PM4 and LK6. I would love Benedict Howedes of Schalke or Martin Caceres of Juve. Both quick, strong, good age (26/27?) and experienced in top leagues and international level.

Arteta at CDM scares me. Good player and passer of the ball. But we need muscle on the midfield. Again, its not that I don't rate Arteta, he just isn't good ENOUGH as a CDM. William Carvalho? Abit raw imo. Schnierdlin too expensive for what he is. Khedira, wages obvs issue. Lars Bender = Perfect. Has all the qualities Arteta has, but is more athletic and a better tackler.

Peace out

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Absolutely. We are short of central defenders, even if we use Chambers as cover, we then only have one right back, unless Wenger considers Bellerin to be ready, which I don't, as he needs a season on loan playing regularly at a high level. So ideally we need 2 more defenders to make a total of 8, with cover for each defensive position. I would like to see one top class centre back & one young promising one. Ideally they could both cover at fullback, giving lots of options. I agree that we need a top quality powerful, tall, athletic, defensive midfield player. My own choice would be to break the bank & try to sign Pogba, who looks superb. Arteta & Flamini, are not the type of player to enable us to win the PL & would not get into any of the top contenders squads, never mind their first eleven.

Agree0 Disagree0

Great post Detroit as per usual, personally I think if we were to get Bender or very similar if would make the CB position much less desperate as Chambers and Mert would reap the benefits of that added protection in front of them.
Chambers like Mert will need that protection in really big games, Chambers has pace and Mert experience but both lack what the other offers at this time.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes, great post Detroit. Bender is a good Sgt: athletic, talented and experienced enough to step right in, but young enough to fit our spine and to learn from Arteta and Rosickh and Flamini. I'd be very happy with Martinez too.

I'm more more optimistic this year because so far the club has spent and got the job done, showing it will be a buying club again. But I'm worried about our balance and our squad depth. We still need a good, experienced CB also. Another LB wouldn't hurt. Oh and a striker -:)
