Gareth Baboon scored 2 very good free-kicks for the spuds, even though Lyon defended generally well against him. basically when we play them next month, we have to be careful with our challenges/tackles in and around the box, especially given Baboon's track record of going to ground easily.

so Ed, are we to spend the next few months frothing from the corner of our mouths saying Jovetic, Wanayama, Ozil when the plank in charge will not buy anyone worth buying.
Also where are:
1. J Campbell
2. Ryo
3. Afobe/Aneke

are they the real deal or 'bebe-style' players. don't feel like watching any more games this year (but for JWhilshire), and we've been srong in the past few games, real supporterds support there team through thick and thin.

Ash {Ed027's Note - were in for a good summer imo, a lot of dead wood on there way out PERMANENTLY. all those kids are out on loan, i'd have them around riht now if i'm honest, good talents.

Chris,

Nice of you to pop over, you guys certainly did well to get a draw over there but I have a feeling Mr Ronaldo will be looking to impress the Old Trafford crowd more than he was the Madrid crowd. Up in the air though mate, could go either way.

Pretty sure you won't win it though as way to much top opposition, Madrid are not at there best by any stretch unlike, Bayern, Dortmund, Barcelona and others who will be tougher for you and us to beat. The EPL is so poor this year.

We have the attacking ability to do something and the defending ability to do f**k all.

I think Man United are favourites to go through now, but it could be tight. I think your score is going to be 2-1 to united. I think its 65/35 in Man United favour
for us i'm not too worried about our first leg. I believe we will win 2-0 or 1-0, I cannot see bayern scoring at emirates.
second leg will be down to arsenals game plan, personally I think we should press for a away goal, but can see us losing 1-0 or 2-1. therefore i'm 50/50 on arsenal going through.

would you swap Wilshire for Bale?

Limerick Gunner

Believable1 Unbelievable34

NO! NEVER!

Not a chance in hell, wilshere will be unbelievable for the rest of his career which will be mostly, if not all, his career at arsenal. Bale took longer than wilshere to develop and will mostl likely leave white hart lane within the next 2 years

I wouldn't swop wilshere for anyone for a number of reasons, particularly his love and commitment to the club. but bale is unbelievable one of the best in the prem

Just have a feeling about Mourinho coming to us in the summer, I can see it happening.

Believable1 Unbelievable23

He would be my last choice, was so disrespectful to us as a club, Wenger as a manager and belittled our team too when he was a Chelsea, its all to much about him, not for me

Think we might have real defensive problems for Bayern Game. Monreal inlegible and Vermaelen, Gibbs, Koscielny (possibly) injured. That leaves Just one first team CB (discluding Squillaci) and no LBs. Will have to end up playing Jenkinson - Mertesacker - Miquel - Sagna. Against your average PL side I would only be mildly worried but this is Bayern Munich. Gomez, Kroos, Robben, Ribbery, Muller. not to mention Shaqiri and Mandzuckic off the bench. We'll have to go all out in attack. Podolski, Theo and Ox my preffered 3 as raw pace will scare them and make them play deeper. I'd sacrifice Arteta (gasp) for Diaby just to give us more protection and driving force in midfield.

As for Blackburn, ideally need to rest players like we did v Brighton. If Sagna or Mertersacker were to get injured. unthinkable really.

Early predictions:

Win Blackburn 2-0
Draw Bayern 1-1

Injury or not I'd definately like to see Jack rested against Blackburn and see game time for Rosicky with Eisfeld on the bench.

We should beat Blackburn but no idea what we'll do against Bayern. That is one tough game and then there's the away leg!

Hey! Never posted before but I like the page a lot! Sorry for it but i've a different question! I bought a ticket for the everton match and i've to travel to london to see it! can someone tell me how it works to get the ticket, because afc sent me this online document. And is it possible to pick the ticket up a day before?

markus

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Sorry mate no idea with online stuff, your best bet is to ring the club, go on the official site and ask them - last thing you want to do is to take some randomer's advice on here and it goes wrong!

Have a great time!

Metal Gooner

Agree8 Disagree0

Usually if you get a ticket online it will have a barcode you scan as you go through the gate but always worth calling them up to be sure.

Bergkamp wonderland

Agree1 Disagree0

I f this online doc has a long barcode on it, then this can be used at the gate on the day.

Agree0 Disagree0

They post the ticket to you a week or so before the match. Or if its too soon before the match for it to be sent, there's a ticket collection booth on the holloway side of the stadium. I'd assume though it'll be sent to you. If it gets a few days before the match and you have nothing, then ring. This is unless you're a red member, in which case you don't get a ticket. You get an email with your dear row and number and you use your membership card to get through the turnstiles.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think you've just recieved confirmation they will send you a ticket if you brought it on general sale. They only issue paper tickets if you purchase it a few days before the game. You scan it at the gate if worried ask the stewards at the gate and they will tell you what to do.

does anyone think we should re-call park?

ALEX FIVERASH

Believable0 Unbelievable8

The Park situation is very strange, apparently he was just about to sign elsewhere then we hi-jacked the move which in itself is very unlike the way we behave, then we do not give him a chance and ship him out on loan.

There seems to be something very weird with this player, maybe the ed's can shed some light?

337 {Ed002's Note - I don't think there is anything weird with him at all.}

Agree1 Disagree0

We bought park to sell shirts and to advertise the club to an Asian market. The same way psg have signed Beckham to promote their brand via him. Maybe he never got a sniff at arsenal because there was never any intention of him playing.

Daniel {Ed002's Note - Park was not purchased for commercial reasons and certainly not for the "Asian market". Arsenal buying a South Korean player would make zero difference commercially in Japan, China, Vietnam and the rest of Asia etc.. Did you go out and buy a Kuban Krasnodar shirt after the bought Spaniard Angel Dealbert last year? And do you know that Arsenal don't get the money from shirt sales?}

Agree0 Disagree0

A most odd signing, which smacked of desperation. I can't fathom out the fact that we have a scouting system, which has failed miserably with Park, Squilacci & Santos. The saving grace is that they also find players such as Giroud, Podolski & Cazorla. Mind you it is hardly rocket science to come to the conclusion that these three were quality players.

Agree1 Disagree1

Shirt sales aren't the only income generated from the purchase of a player, and KOREA is a vast untapped market for premierleague clubs.

Your Naive if you think Arsenal signing an Asian player and never getting a game, isn't solely for sales and marketing.

I'l give you another example of us doing it. Junichi Inamoto (spelling). We bought him, and a year later we sold him. He played less than 5 times, and everyone back then could blatantly see that it was just us trying to raise the profile of the club in Asia. We are not the only club guilty of doing it, but we are doing it.

Probably has absolutely nothing to do with Asian pre-season tours either does it.

Daniel {Ed002's Note - Yopu don't understand. The Asian market will not care one bit about Arsenal buying a South Korean - the South Korean market might. The Japanese market might care about a Japanese player but you are completely wrong regarding Park I am afraid. And I guess from your original post and your statement about shrt sales is that you really don't understand that situation either.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Regarding the revenue from shirt sales, due to bad commercial deal, we don't earn a lot from shirt sales, practically nothing.

Agree1 Disagree0

If your only problem with my post is that I put South Korea and Japan under the 'Asia' umbrella, then i'm sorry for being geographically incorrect. You can see however, that I am right about this.

Park had a good world cup, was captain, we picked him up and all of a sudden the entire country started to follow Arsenal through Park.
Likewise, Inomoto had a great worldcup with Japan, we picked him up, and all of japan followed Arsenal through Inomoto. Both players played less than 5 games, both players lasted less than 1 year, and both countries (South Korea and Japan) got hit by Arsenal Marketing campaigns.

As for shirt sales, cling onto that if you like, but there are a lot of wealthy Koreans and Japanese people that bought a shirt and then spent a lot of money to come and watch Arsenal play football with the hope of seeing their country represented by their respective star players!

If you work for Arsenal directly Ed002, I can understand your arguement against my theory - because its quite negative. However, If you think Arsenal go out and buy these guys because they think they will become first team players and make an impact on the pitch and not just on the bank balance, I believe your wrong!

: )

Daniel

PS - I don't know the finances related to shirt sales, but I can't imagine that if I buy a shirt on Arsenal. com, Arsenal football club get absolutely zero from it. {Ed002's Note - They are in Asia, the point being is that England is in Europe so a Russian side buying a Spanish player will not get any benefits in England, but for some reason you think a South Korean player will bring benefits to Arsenal across an entire continent. I know exactly what happened with Park and you can go back in the archives and read it if you want. The money from shirt sales goes to the manufacturer, the distributor and the retailer, who can make extra adding numbers and names to the shirts. If the club are the retailer (club shop, club website etc.) then they get the retailers cut. The manufacturer (Adidas, Warrior, Nike etc.) pay the club an amount each year which allows them to manufacture and sell the shirts using the correct logos etc.. That is how they justify the money given to the club. So if you walk in to a high street store and buy a Liverpool or Arsenal shirt - nothing goes to the club. There are a few clubs that have negotiated different deals with manufacturers (Real Madrid with Adidas and Barcelona with Nike are the two obvious examples) based upon joint reselling ventures. So the income from shirts is fixed to the £xM or whatever Adidas, Nike etc. pay the club plus a small amount for reselling through the club retail outlets (shop, web).}

I assume some of you saw Ronaldo's header.

Absolute ripper of a header. Take notes Giroud (even though Giroud has a greater header tbh : p)

But still, had to be said, perfect.

Nick.

Believable8 Unbelievable0

Still the first english team to beat madrid was us.

and I maybe dreaming but I have a feeling we will be the first team to be the repeat Champions league holders when it happens.

Agree4 Disagree2

I was disappointed yesterday, didn't think man united were good at all compared with their league standards and they still got an away goal : /. I understand if people want to support the English teams out in Europe but honestly I would be lying to myself if I said I wanted man united to win another game in any competition this season. I was so disappointed with Madrid. And then Jose took off their best player and brought on Modric, wtf? I thought Di Maria would score at any point.

But, going back to the header, it was a moment of beauty! It's the way he jumps early. If you jump early and have hang time this is like the perfect way of getting an aerial advantage. Chamakh used to do this all the time, jump early, almost bury it on his way down to earth. Pure class! Both the goals were good to be fair.

Worryingly, I can see man united going through.

Metal Gooner

Agree6 Disagree2

I thought Manchester United were exceptional yesterday. They were playing a superior team, away from home, and they played to their strengths by scoring and then defending/counter-attacking.

Real's weakness was the fact they had alonso, kheidira and modric all doing the same thing. 3 players out of 11 who all pick up the ball and play a sideways pass (Alonso is exceptional and does offer more, but he doesn't need 2 other people doing it next to him)

Ronaldo dissapeared in the second half, and that's because utd made him dissapear. Really good performance from them tbh.

Daniel

Agree1 Disagree2

Metal, get over it. I genuinely want Arsenal to do well in Europe. I was disappointed when you lost in the final.

AJH

Agree0 Disagree1

A final is different. Even I would support man united vs a foreign club (and only a foreign club. apart from Dortmund - I grew up there partly) but that doesn't mean I want you to actually progress or get to the final! Each to there own, if you don't like my opinion, get over it lol.

Metal Gooner {Ed007's Note - Where did the other parts of you grow up?}

Agree0 Disagree0

Man utd have been better away then at home this season.

Tie is wide open. and Madrid will defend and Counter Attack.

Mourinho took Ozil off as he knew it was a draw. Fergie had the team sitting deep in last 10 mins ( stats show madrid most potent team in last 10 mins)

Also he can't try counter attack madrid at home. but that is madrids game. and they will have to be wary. as they said it is an open tie. utd might be favourites due to the home tie, but if you look at history and especially mourinho history he knows how to play into players heads in such games.

Winner of this tie goes to final.

Not necessarily win it. I got my money on barca. especially with the midget in scintillating form.

Whats happened to Kyle Ebecillio? Thought he was gona step up into the first team and make a name for himself after winning The Golden Player Award for Holland at the Fifa u17 World cup 2 years ago!

Mdog

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Mate you could literally insert the name of just about every youth player we have!

Nobody knows. We don't really seem to be signing enough ready made players or bringing the top youth through these days. Who knows, maybe it's been too long since the youth and reserve have won anything? Just guessing.

Metal Gooner

Agree1 Disagree0

Lansbury is probably the biggest recent name to go through our system and fail to make it. He was touted for so long as a future star, but I think they summed him up best on the last Arsenal fanzone podcast. One game he would be amazing, and the following game he would go missing. Consistency cost him big time.
