I have been told by a very good BBQ that we will try to sign

ANGEL DI MARIA this window

Believable0 Unbelievable0

What a load of old sausages

Agree0 Disagree0

Would you steak your reputation on it malaga? :p

Agree0 Disagree0

Malaga, can you tell Angel to bring Ronaldo along with him to Madrid airport for the gatwick flight! You don't half spurt some! Lol ;)

Agree0 Disagree0

Sounds a bit CORNY!

Agree0 Disagree0

Malaga. I also believe if we signed Di Maria he would bring home the Bacon for us mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Malagas RIBBING us

Agree0 Disagree0

Actually I would not like to have Di Maria. I have seen him in tackles and he is a bit of a CHICKEN.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Malaga should just BURGER off and do one lol

Agree0 Disagree0

Well let's just hope if it's true that di maria doesn't CHICKEN out lol

Agree0 Disagree0

Some of the comments are a bit SAUCY, and you could get your fingers BURNT. I think they were said in the HEAT of the moment which would explain their obSKEWER nature.

Malaga does know his ONIONS and I RELISH the chance that this rumour could be true.

There is MUSHROOM for improvement up front and as the EPL is PEPPERED with failed spur of the moment signings we should be cautious.

Agree0 Disagree0

Some one might be telling PORKies here

Agree0 Disagree0

337, "There is MUSHROOM for improvement", that one just cracked me up, love it.

How much have we missed Aaron Ramsey?

Hopefully he will be back very soon and we will start looking a little more comfortable in games. Who'd have said that a year ago!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We have missed him big time mate, but its a testament to the rest of the team that we are still top.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agreed Dags. And imagine how strong our bench will be when he's back! If by next month we have, say, Ramsey Arteta Wilshere Ozil and Ox starting - we'll have Flamini, Rosicky, Cazorla, Podolski and Gnabry in reserve. Still gutted about Theo and think we could do with another striker, but our performances over an injury-stricken period show that we do have a level of squad depth that was absent in past seasons. Particularly in midfield.

All that aside, you're right G62 and I can't wait to have Rambo back.

Agree0 Disagree0

Apparently, Arsene feels Podolski is lazy in training and doesn't put out the work rate he should or is capable of.
Until that happens Poldi is going to be a bit part player at best, with Wenger preferring to double up Monreal and Gibbs on the left ahead of putting Poldi on the field.

Personally I rate Podolski, I like his team spirit and his happy demeanour off the field and his lethal shooting on it.

Things happen that we don't see I guess!

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Jan 2014 20:10:23
Why is Podolski not getting game time? I have this horrible feeling he'll get the hump and leave in the summer, when basically whenever he gets on the pitch he scores. What the beard?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Good question, wish I knew the answer.

Agree0 Disagree0

I was thinking the same. I hope he starts ahead of Santi next game

Don't think anyone is slating Ozil and I'm certain no one hates him. In fact I think people are trying to say the opposite

My view is that he's doing ok but we haven't seen the best of him yet. He'll need to get settled before that happens and I think it'll be next season once he's done a proper pre season with us.

I suppose he could also be a victim of media hype and some (maybe me included) expected more from him. I just think back to the the comparisons with Bergkamp's signing and think that was a bit unfair on Mesut - there is only 1 Bergkamp

Change of subject. BFG's clenched fists as he left the pitch showed the passion I think we missed since Vieira. Add Jack, Theo, Ox, TR7 and a few others and that passion and pride is returning.

We are on the way back lads

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Good post Soops

Agree0 Disagree0

We will see the best out of him once we perfect our defense our opposition has a counter attack.

Oh and I wish Ozil would shoot more. It looked like he could have had a couple left-foot curlers against Villa.

Berbatov left out of fulham fa cup side again seems like he is on way out of the cottage maybe to us?

Goonerink posted earlier what nicknames the players have for each other.

So guys, what do you think our players nicknames should be?

Just for fun i'm going to start off with>>>

Sczezny, I would call him "scrabble" because he must have got his surname from a game of scrabble, surely.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Or his grades at school were so bad that when you put them together they actually spell a polish name

Agree0 Disagree0

" THE FROG " Give you one guess . 11

Agree0 Disagree0

Flamini could be 'Spartan'
Per 'Mr. Arsenal Jr' maybe? Haha

Agree0 Disagree0

Flybo 2b?

Agree0 Disagree0

Lol to all of the above

Diaby-Single glazed
Özil -Wrigleys
Mert-Stephen Merchant

Szczesney-Twitterwhore
Gibbs-Funky (gibbon, bit of a stretch)

Ed's, So what's the story with Julian Draxler? is there a chance of getting him this month or is this a deal that's going to wait until the summer?
They have just signed Sidney Sam and are looking to bring back Holtby so it may strengthen our position in getting him sooner.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I have explained over and over.}

Earlier today I put up a post saying congrats to Ronaldo for winning Ballon D'or.

My mate Lakerville said that he thinks Messi is better than Ronaldo, and as much as I respect his opinion (and I do), I think Lakerville is wrong, lol.

Opinions please people, who is best in your opinion, Ronaldo or Messi? And why?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think Messi is better, Ronaldo deserved it for last year though.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hey there DG,

I was just having the same discussion with a friend lol. Personally, I have a hard time comparing different players that play in different positions. For me, Messi can do things that Ronaldo cannot do, and Ronaldo can do things that Messi cannot do. For me, it comes down to which one you prefer; I think Ronaldo is the more explosive and powerful player which I like, but you can't make a bad choice.

Both are just sensational players and it is a real treat to watch them both.

Congrats to CR7.

Peace,
Trinidad-Gooner

Agree0 Disagree0

Dags,

if you put the world to vote you would still lose this one.

but still respect your opinion :0

Agree0 Disagree0

Ronaldo - because basically, he can score from freekicks, headers, left foot, right foot, he can score from forty yards, he's quick and can dribble. Messi is the better dribbler and can score for fun but can't do power headers, long shots, and isn't a free kick taker. Ronaldo is the complete footballer.

Agree0 Disagree0

Messi for me. Even though Ronaldo is better in the air I prefer Messi because I love the way he takes on the opposition with the ball at his feet without any space like a ski slalom. Neither can wipe Bendtners a*se though.
Flybo

Agree0 Disagree0

As a manager which one would keep you awake most trying to decide how to stop him?
For me it would be Ranaldo as I feel if you put 8 on Messi he struggles at times

Agree0 Disagree0

For me would have to be Ronaldo. Take Messi out of barca and I can't see him being as huge. Ronaldo done it in prem getting lumps kicked out of him and in spain think he is different class a proper playboy but grrat footballer. Messi more of a role model wouldn't mind either tbh wiw ozil and Ronaldo

Agree0 Disagree0

Laker, looking at the above posts its 2-2 lol

Agree0 Disagree0

The only player giving anyone nightmares right now is suarez, not ronaldo or messi

Agree0 Disagree0

Messi all the way! dags gooner, lakerville, flybo. gooneres all the ways. but it's got to be messi

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi Trinidad, I totally agree mate, both are a joy to watch.

Agree0 Disagree0

I would say Messi over Ronaldo because although Ronaldo is a better player all around, I feel he lacks the ability to bring others into the game and contribute as a team player

Agree0 Disagree0

Messi because he is a magician. He glides past people with such ease, is a team player, very very good passer, can win games on his own (Ronaldo I believe needs much more service then messi). He is better then Ronaldo at free kicks(Ronaldo hits most of his high or into the wall).
Ronaldo is physically the complete footballer. But messi for me has a much bigger impact when playing.

Agree0 Disagree0

Messi. hands down.

Agree0 Disagree0

Dags it ended 5-2.

you did miss a few fence sitters but convincing display from team messi.

the worst bit is. I hate that midget for embarrassing us so many times.

lets hope draxler joins us and he can be the best player 10 years straight.

Agree0 Disagree0

For me it would have to go down to personality, they are both great footballers, sad I know! But I can't bear Ronaldo so therefore it's Messi.

Agree0 Disagree0

Laker, you win mate lol, fairplay.

Agree0 Disagree0

7-2, that was a trashing. lol. pointless convos do well. hahah

lets do a carlton cole vs chamakh vote.

lets see how many people can give a valid argument for who to pick

Agree0 Disagree0

Lol, I think that one will end up 0-0 mate.

Are you watching Chris The Redman? lol

Believable0 Unbelievable0

14 Jan 2014 18:41:50
Chris the bed pan is away with Sydney at the moment.

David Moyes has asked them to run their eyes over Charlie Adams as a possible January signing

These are the sort of players a top 8 side go after

To the Ozil haters

We must not be watching the same game

They way we attack, maintain position and keep opponents pushed back is only doable because of guys like Ozil, who preoccupy 2 defenders

This is the player he was in Madrid. I watched most of his matches there. The difference, there he had Higuain and Ronaldo, here he has Giroud.

Look at Ozil's ability to switch flanks, move the ball around and incorporate the fullbacks, his link play in traffic

Teams flat out park the bus on us, compounded by the fact we do not have a world class striker. Put Ronaldo on this team and watch Ozil's assist tally go up

First goal yesterday is all Ozil. He sees Monreal, from where he passes, defenders drawn away from box, cuts their line in half while opening middle up for Jack to make an open run

Players don't cost 42 million just because of what they do on the ball, they cost 42 million because of their effect on a football team

W Ozil, we are first place. When's the last time we were first place in Jan?

New league, more physical, it takes time to adjust. Is he at his best, no. Is he still as good a player as you'll find in PL? Absolutely

I can tell you right now, Bayern are already game planning for him.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I fail to comprehend the criticism of Ozil, who lifted the club when he was signed and gave us the belief that has put us in first place. let's get behind the team and stop whinging and making inane comments about a quality player, that Ancelotti is regretting having sold. It usually takes a player a season to get used to the intensity of playing in the Premier League, so be patient!

Agree0 Disagree0

I completely agree. Which is why I was so disappointed with Walcott getting injured, because the Sunderland game at the start of the season gave us an insight to what was to expect. Ozil playing balls to Walcott, and now when Walcott was banging them in, ozil was injured and when he comes back Walcott is out for the season. Gutted.
Only thing il add is we don't specifically need a ST a winger who runs in behind and is a good scorer will do, someone like Reus or elsharaaway

Agree0 Disagree0

That makes a lot of sense, thank you! He floats like a butterfly out there, we are lucky to have him. I would like to see more of Podolski now too.

Agree0 Disagree0

I do not think there are any "Ozil haters" on here, but just supporters who, whilst appreciating everything Ozil has done for Arsenal, would just like to see a little bit more.

I will put my hands up straight away and say I have posted opinions about the guy and that I want to see a little more from him. I love seeing him in an Arsenal shirt, its like watching Bergkamp all over again.

But, if I feel a player could, or should be doing better, than I will express an opinion. Its not just Ozil, but I want to see every Arsenal player giving 100% in every game, whether they cost £42m or 42pence.

Yes, of course he needs time to settle, every player does, more so a player like Ozil, who has a laid back temperament, which I would never want him to change, that's just the kind of player he is.

The level of expectancy from everybody connected to Arsenal is very high this season, and rightly so, and much of this is due to the arrival of Ozil.

For me, he is brilliant but in flashes, and those flashes tend to win us the game. But, sorry I want more from him and all the Arsenal players. When you look at Man City they are pretty much like a machine, especially at the Etihad. We cannot just compete with them, we have to be better than them.Than, and only than, will we be able to win the Premier League.

Just my opinion.

Agree0 Disagree0

I wish we would play Poldi more who complements him very well, they always start together for Germany

Agree0 Disagree0

Me too USG

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Jan 2014 14:58:41
With Theo out and Serge now pretty much his 1st team replacement (imho at least)

And with santi's form drop on the left.

does that make our line of attacking midfielders all german?

Poldolski - Ozil - Gnabs

with two german players either side of him, and their love for cutting inside, I think the next few games might be very prolific for our midfield 'Axis'

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I definitely think that should start against Fulham!

Agree0 Disagree0

If anything ever happened to Ozil (fingers crossed - hope not) you are gong to feel very fortunate to have santi to step up… just sayin'

Agree0 Disagree0

I said he had dropped form, not that he was turd :p

Hey Guys, Hope all is well :)
nothing serious here,
was just wondering about our players nicknames, and if people know if everyone has one

I know for sure that:

Kieran Gibbs = Gibbo
Lorent Koscielny = LoLo
Lucas Podolski = Poldi

and ox and rambo sometimes get called their respective names.

wondering if you guys knew anymore?
all I can think of are things like

Bacary Sagna = Bac
Gedion Zelalem = Ged

but they aren't really nicknames as such

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Olly and Frog eyes or Total Recall eyes the only ones I can think of lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

I have heard they called Jack Wilshere "Jack Wheelchair" because he is always injured, although not too sure if the actual players say it, lol.

Time for little Banter why does wenger not podolski. I find it very strange, Ox and Wallcott have long term injuries and are slotted straight back into the team, not for podolski, is it because he doesn't suit the current shape we are playing, or wenger doesn't trust his defensive work (similar to the Arshavin situtation), or is it something like the Juan Mata situation at chelsea, great player and doesn't work how the team is playing so is on the bench.

I think wenger should start him against fulham, the best return for Ramsey, Vermalen would be the FA Cup.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agree, I for you think Podolski is blooming brilliant, would love him to start against Fulham.

Agree0 Disagree0

I expected a little more Banter from you DB :), in terms of why he isn't playing or being chosen.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Jan 2014 14:23:15
Guys a little perspective with Ozil. Admittedly he is not currently playing as well as he did in Madrid. However, we must remember that when the likes of Mertesacker made the move he also struggled. I know they play in different positions but I think the logic is transferrable here. Mertesacker needed time to adapt, and now he is a BEAST! Ozil is still adapting. His class shone through for a few games, and its currently just bubbling underneath. He will be a legend at this club if we just give him time.

Peace II You

In September Ozil fever hit every one, the players and us alike.

dagenham gunner,

Good result for you last night, Nervy last 15 mins though after Benteke scored. with us both having easier games on paper would you prefer a Chelsea Manchester United draw or United win.

Personally i'm hoping for a Chelsea win as I don't believe we are ready just yet for a title challenge and we could go 8 points clear of United.

Cheers Lads

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Hello Irishred,

Yes mate, the last 15 mins were "Squeaky bum time" but we just pulled through, lol.

Good question mate. Well, Chelsea worry me more than Manchester United so i'm going for a Utd win but would be very happy with a draw.

I understand your logic, a Utd loss will make it hard for them to have any impact on the title, in fact, although still early days, would make it hard for them to break into top 4.

So, you can have that 4th spot Irish, lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Jan 2014 11:22:28
Good result last night and another 3 points, played great in the first half but lost our way in the second half, maybe playing with a little too much confidence but no matter we won and that's the main thing.

I see that some people are a little disappointed in ozil and I will agree with some people to an extent, his first few games were mouth-wateringly good but he seems to have slowed down a little now, he reminds me a little of drogba in his last couple of seasons (bare with me while I explain lol) the best example I can give is the champions league final against bayern, he was quite for like 80 odd minutes then all of a sudden he heads in the equaliser. The point I'm making is that although ozil may not play fantastic all the time he does produce a moment of magic in each game e.g the pass to monreal which led to the goal.

Santi has started to play better these recent games, still not as good as last year but he still has the magic in him.

The BIGGEST shout out is BFG and his mate KOS, their record speaks for itself in the fact when they've played the full 90 we've never lost, incredible stat! When villa scored you saw BFG's reaction, I think he was more annoyed that we let them score rather than the way it was scored, we need that though tbh a natural leader and I think he's it.

Looking forward to this weekend, I think we are due a 5-6 nil thrashing against a team so hopefully it'll be Fulham this weekend :) COYG!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Good post Essex, totally agree.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Jan 2014 10:04:22
Ozil isn't at his best by a long way we can all see that, I would have subbed him last night, to me he and Carzola looked like they were in pre season shape with passes either to short or to long.
He is a big part of us being top as even in quite games he can make a massive difference at times, but yes we all want him to be at his breath taking best.
I think he may be lacking a bit of confidence or just finding it difficult to settle in after a whirl wind transfer and changing country, league and team, this will be his first year without a Christmas break and I guess lots of other things to get used to in this country, he may be our record signing but he is still only human so maybe we need to hold fire for this season and hope to see the very best of him next

Believable0 Unbelievable0

PS
Anyone notice when Ozil was clear in the middle and Giroud had the ball down the left but his ball to Ozil was cut out, Ozil put his hand up to Giroud to say unlucky the intention was right.
10 mins later with roles reversed and Giroud in the middle, exactly the same thing happend but Giroud had a right go at Ozil.
Maybe EVERYONE needs to cut him some slack for a bit

Agree0 Disagree0

He has done extremely well for a player who possibly feels like Madrid made a scapegoat out of him.

now with Ancelotti coming out and saying that it was the biggest mistake he made, only goes to show how much he is missed over there.

Isco is too similar to ronaldo and bale, in looking for the goal, rather than the pass.

Ozil is one of a kind, a genius, a left footed wonder, and this arsenal team with Wilshere, ramsey, cazorla will only help him to take pressure off.

everyday is not a sunday, and yesterday was a monday so they were off pace, but still 3 points.

all I can say is we need someone lethal upfront. to give us some much needed alternative.

lets hope we can pick one up and the likes of chelsea and city drop points, so we can pick the pace and win the damn title.

Agree0 Disagree0

He wasn't 0utting his hand up in apology. He was telling him he should have dinked it over

Agree0 Disagree0

G62; To be fair that is more a strikers attitude than a specific players one.

if you notice at the end of the game Ozil beckoned Olly over to him to chat about them. methings it was 'strikers frustration' rather than giroud having a pop.

plus if you play for arsenal in the changing rooms your as good as the guy sitting next to you (unlucky whoevers next to nicky b:P)
but yeah Wenger ships out primadonnas. he doesn't bring them in.
i think Ozil is critisizing his own game more than anyone else.

There are 6 scenarios possible in football:

a. Play good football and win (3 points and a warm fuzzy feeling)
b. Play good football and get a draw (1 point and disappointment)
c. Play good football and lose (0 points and hating the players for hitting the post so many times)
d. Play poorly and win (3 points plus feeling of relief)
e. Play poorly and draw (1 point and that frustrating feeling where you blame the coach and referee)
f. Play poorly and lose (0 points and appetite-killing, life-draining kind of pain where you dread going to work the next day)

Option A is the one we would always want, but if that fails, I will take option D any day. So often in the past, we have been guilty of option C which leaves us nowhere. In order to be champions, we need to get a whole lot more Ds. I would take 38 Ds in a season as long as it gets us the League!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Waq1, good post mate. Personally I take any win whether achieved through flowing football, scrappy or lucky etc.

Only thing that worries me is when, like at Villa last night, if we sit off the opposition too many times we are increasing the risk. and the more you have a risk the more likely it is to bite your backside.

If only for that reason I'd like us to stay on top of the opposition and not sit back.

Other reason is goal diff lol. We need to improve in case that becomes a deciding factor on anything

We're a vastly improved side from 12 months ago though. No doubt on that

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Don't worry about goal difference, Chelsea and City will finish at least 5 points above you.

We are getting the results we have to get against teams other top sides have failed to beat, we are not the super sexy Arsenal we were a few months ago but we are getting the points the hard way.

Chelsea have looked WORKMAN like all season but are right up there still in 3rd, city have been more CLASSY and better to watch and are 2nd, a few months ago we looked very classy and now look more workman like but paint it any way you like we are most deffinately TOP.

Not as easy to watch for 90 mins at the moment I admit but a lot lot easy to enjoy in between games when your top of the league that's for sure

Morning dudes

Did anyone notice Podolski's reaction to Chamberlain replacing the injured Rosicky? I was watching on tv and when the camera showed The Ox coming on, in the background Podolski was looking a bit perplexed and shaking his head. Could be for something totally unrelated, like maybe the state of Rosicky's nose, but to me looked like he was disappointed he didn't come on.
I like seeing that in players, shows their hunger to play, but for me at that point in the game we needed to stay tight and compact, and maybe Pod would of been too much of an attacking option.

Also, shout out to Merts and Kos the boss. We all know their good, but those stats last night just showed how immense they are. If your going to win the title you need to be strong and tight at the back, we couldn't ask for more in those two.
Everyone is talking about strike partnerships this year, Suarez Sturridge, Aguero Negredo etc etc, but who has a better defensive partnership than that?!?

Peace out you handsome Goons!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Boogz, yeah Podolski didn't look too happy, shame because he's a top player.

Seemed to be a lot of mixed opinions regarding today's game, time to add my opinion I think :)
Firstly wilshere is definitely improving and coming back to his best. Gnabry looks like a seasoned professional, doesn't panic or makes many mistakes, and is clever enough to realise when to attack and cover def. I.e.: in the 2nd half Sagna went on a run and gnabry slotted in at RB.
Now to the team performance, first half was pretty much as comfortable as it gets great passing, movement, pressing 2nd half yes we took our foot off the gas, and invited a bit of pressure but we need to stop saying things like if we do that against so and so we wouldn't of won etc. Because these ain't one off lucky games, we have been doing this for a year now, our def does not crumble under such pressure. Other then the villa and city game I can't remember the last time we conceded more than 1 goal in the league.
For years we have been bemoaning and complaining about games we couldn't grind out results, just to get a point. But now we are doing it and getting 3points everyone thinks it's disappointing.
Us gooner you said if we play like that against Fulham we wouldn't win, really? I'm sure you made the same comments before and yet we are top of the table.
Man city got lucky agains Newcastle and Swansea yet it was their quality that won them the game,
Arsenal do the same against Newcastle, Cardiff, west ham, villa and we were lucky. Really?
Chelsea been average all season yet if they grind out a result it was because of their quality.
Think you need to give this team more credit then what it's getting atm, I have complete confidence in our defence the true reason behind our success this season I believe. Any ball into the box are dealt with, everyone is always organised, communicating and in mert we have a real leader with a voice.
Let's not moan about winning, because how many other teams would do anything to get wins like ours. I can think of 16 atleast.
Another game another 3points; the league title is looking more likely by the game. Coyg.

Waq1,

That is a great post and the simple fact is I genuinely feel our defence, and all the evidence is there, has become a different animal over the last 12 months.

We now know how to defend as a team, even including Giroud.

The problem simply lies with 8 years or more with no trophies, getting the team over that line. We've seen us drop off the pace for one reason or another over those years. In this situation it's like every game becomes a bigger game, more than it would be for City, Chelsea or United who have walked that path recently.

That's why fans are nervous, we want it to happen so much, I'm not of the opinion we can't and are doing what title winners do, grinding out where and when we need too. United did it for pretty much the whole 2nd half of last season.

As, of all people Robbie Savage said, we need a result against one of those three I mentioned to give them and us the undoubted belief we can cross the line first.

Most of us have said that we would and probably expect 3rd but we know we all want more.

Two huge league games in February against Sunderland and Palace could be the key ;-) lol.

Totally agree- we can't always play "sexy" football over an entire season, in every single game.

As you rightly say, in recent seasons we used to drop points in these sort of games, because we couldn't win "ugly".

Now we are, which is great as far as I'm concerned.

Even the invincible's didn't play great in every game- in fact there were quite a few close calls, but they got through it by hard work and girding out a result (man u have did that for years- some convincing wins, followed by close games with late winners/equalisers etc)

We will spank someone soon I'm sure :)
