I said before the season started were guna see Giroud finding the back of the net, he's becoming a world class st, and think he will be a huge handfull for any team this year.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Not sure about the world class part just yet, but definitely on the way to being a legend, top 3 in the epl.

Agree0 Disagree0

Top 3 in the prem is a huge statement, and a correct one IMO.

at the moment is say Giroud, Sturridge and Benteke are the top 3.

I have to talk about Giroud a bit after that game. Of course Ramsey was fantastic, he really was but I don't think Giroud is getting the attention he deserves. Sure he scored a great goal but it was the link up play that really stood out for me. It was just premium quality. His work rate as well is just amazing. He did a bad touch and lost the ball close to their goal, I think it was in the 78th min. He ran like a rabid dog all the way back to get it back. I am very impressed considering that I I feel like Giroud has had to work very hard to get the trust of the fans and has had to prove that he can be the main striker for us, but my god has he taken the opportunity. a lot of people including myself perhaps didn't think he was as good as he has turned out to be. I love it and think he is going to be a beast of a center forward for us.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I agree whole heartedly Swede, however Walcott needs a rocket, I think TH coaching might make a huge difference in him in my opinion

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree. I was pretty skeptic about him last season, but he has proved me wrong and I really enjoy seeing him play. He works hard and I think he will improve much this season

Agree0 Disagree0

He's proving to be a brilliant team player, not just a great finisher.

This team we have now has so much spirit and determination, not to forget flair that we can push for a cup This season. Here's hoping its the premier league.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree mate. I watched him a fair amount befor he joined us because I heard he was joining us back in March that year. After watching loads of highlights I was really impressed but you an only rely on youtube so much. You really have to watch players play. So I watched him a bit and he was class.

So some people might remember me being ridiculously excited about him signing. So I was then pretty disappointed with his fitness and his general slow start, but one thing that was never poor was his movement. I remember his first game and the number of times he dragged defenders out of the way so an attacking mid or wide player could try and latch on to a santi ball was mad. Maybe not in our very first game but just early on in the season, it was on one hand disappointing that all we could talk about was his movement etc, but at the same time, the value of that is easily understated. And his link up play is often amazing!

Look at Gibbs' insane volley and Podolski's insane volley. Giroud, back to goal, perfect high chip over the defenders to grab the assist. That tour to Asia was a masterstroke because it let him find that confidence again and he's been on fire for months now! So I don't think he's going to stop banging them in if we keep giving him chances, which is awesome. Unlike Theo who missed 3 sitters yesterday. We might even see some of Giroud's more acrobatic volleys this season! What a thought.

Agree0 Disagree0

I really like Giroud when Poldolski is fit with Ozil those 3 will terrify the opposition.
Just remind me of Kennedy & Radford & Radford is our 4th highest scorer

Agree0 Disagree0

Not too many posting here will have seen Radford or Kennedy, probably most would have to Google to find out who they were.
I remember them.

Agree0 Disagree0

Furnell, McNab, Skirton, Baker, Eastham, McLintock, Simpson, Sammells (what a shot he had), Herd, Armstrong, Radford and Kennedy of course. Stroller Graham, Don Howe, all these played under Billy Wright in the 60s I think. Not much success though until Bertie Mee took over and then the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup win kick-started some sustained success. Love this club and been watching since 1962 but the football we play now under Wenger is light years better.

I think we have a shot at the title if a few things can happen.

1.) We can continue our good form.
2.) Villa continue their bad form.
3.) Wenger has another spending spree.

If we stay near the top of the table and we can have a good spell in the Champions League, players will more likely to want to join us.

Benteke for me would be an absolute steal if we signed him and I think he would be a more likely option to the Suarez's and Rooney's of this world. With Giroud picking up an injury against Sunderland yesterday, I don't see where we go up front. Does Walcott play down the middle or does Bendtner play. I know Benteke signed a new long term contract but if Villa continue to go down-hill then he will want a move and I think Villa will probably except around £30 million.

Along with Benteke, I believe we need another defender (suggestions anybody?) and maybe a goalkeeper. I know we have brought Viviano on loan but Fabianski was the keeper on the bench yesterday so I don't know where he fits in. Szczesny is a liability but hopefully the competition that we now have will make him stronger and better.

I was at the game yesterday and I saw a lot of positives and with a couple of additions, I can see us going far away into the land of glory.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

My suggestion is Micah Richards can play across the back and DMF and is a gunners fan

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah, I'm going to go with micah richards too. He can play a lot of positions and he is experienced in the league. I was hoping for the transfer to happen this summer, but I'm thinking it might go down January. At least I hope so.

Agree0 Disagree0

Gunner26, micah richards catches an injury through a cold.

Overall a great start to the season, top after 4 matches & into the group stages of the Champions League.
Both Arteta & Podolski are expected back sooner, rather than later. I would like to see a fit Bendtner given a chance, as back up to Giroud, as he is very similar in stature and style. If Wenger can get him to focus and play him in the middle, opposed to the wide positions he often used him in previously.
Lets get behind the team and drive them on.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Surely Bendtner could score a fare few amounts of goals with Ozil feeding him them through balls.

Still can't shake off the feeling of excitement since the last day of the transfer window. So overwhelmed with emotions after yesterday's game. God I love this team! I can't even talk with my friends about football anymore, I can't differentiate if i'm being subjective or objective. I just love the players that we have right now, every one of them. Feeling so proud.

Giroud may not be the best striker in the world, but he is good, that's what i've always said when some people here were bashing him last season. I predict no less than 20 goals this season, it really won't be that hard with Ozil and Cazorla behind you.

Koscielny is still one of my favorite players. He has a burning desire to win the ball, which, unfortunately, sometimes costs us a penalty. i'm sure Wenger will tell him to be a bit more carefull. Other than that he is a joy to watch, how many defenders are there to whom you can say the same thing?

As for Walcott he is just out of form, that's all. He needs to use his speed more and try to take players on sometimes. I believe time on the bench would improve him, but atm he is needed until some players come back from injury.

So my fellow gunners enjoy this beautiful Sunday, and let's hope Swansea can take the points at the Liberty Stadium on Monday.

p.s. I'm not always as optimistic but just feeling great at the moment.:)

When Ozil took the ball out of the air yesterday for the Giroud assist, was it just me or did anyone else automatically think BERGKAMP!

I have been a bit over excited since we got him so I am open to the fact I maybe delusional

Exiledclockender

I'm with you. I hate it when a player gets in the way to let another player getting to the ball. The refs take the approach that the player is in control or possession of the ball if he is nearest to it and it's doing what he wants.

I've always questioned how any player can claim to be in control of the ball until he has touched it to bring it under control

I'd love to see this called as obstruction as that would force the player to play the ball and prevent him letting it run out of play. That would encourage closing down and make the game more entertaining as players couldn't shield the ball till they have touched it

Won't happen though as its seen, rightly or wrongly, as fair to shield a ball into touch

Ted. I don't know you mate but god you are argumentive in a digging people out sort of way if you don't agree with something and its constant! Don't mind me asking but how old are you. I get the feeling you are late 60s into your 70s . I'm mot trying to be rude here it's just that your posts give that impression. A bit cantankerous . I thought people were on the same side on this site but some of your replies to people make me feel like, why am I on here at all. I'm trying to put this in the nicest way. You need to slow down a bit and read your answers to people and the way you can come over before you post them. It's becoming a bit like Wengerism a bit too self opinionated. Don't take offence mate. I am trying to do you a favour.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

What's Ted done? Just had a quick look at his posts and can see nothing that would warrant this post at all. He might be 70 or 17 can't see how that would make his opinion any less valid either way. Well done on the correct score yesterday Ted I'm 51 yrs old and still waiting to get one right

Another post with all the hallmarks of that EDDIE5555 guy that posted prior to your arrival.

Absolutely no idea what Ted has done or what you're actually getting at.

Nice one on the 3-1 too Ted. You know we'll be expecting it every week. Pressures on ;-)

Gooner62 just want to add it's been a pleasure to read your posts since 3rd Sept. Was getting worried about you prior to that. lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

Is this because I supported Sanogo when you said he was useless? If that offends you so much then I do apologise, but if supporting one of our own players is a crime then lock me up. And he did have a good U19 World Cup. He was France's top scorer.

Also, calling me argumentative isn't the best way to prevent an argument, is it? If you don't like what I say then pay no attention to it, but how making obscene assumptions about my age and saying I'm self opinionated is doing me a favour, I don't understand.

Finally, Gunner62 is right. My age doesn't make my opinion less valid. And there is nothing wrong with Wengerism, he only tried to remain positive when everyone else wasn't, and for that I applaud him.

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks Stoner, yes I was a bit or maybe a lot negative during the window ii think I was suffering from P.O.T

(PRE OZIL TENSION). I think Arsene owes it to all those who come into contact with me to give Ozil a 100 year contract just in case I have a relapse :-)

You beat me to it gunner62, I can't see what ted has done wrong either and I've been on this site for a long time, I think sam5555 you need to take a step back and look at the facts dude, Everybody on this site barring the odd spud or manc posters are ALL follow the Arsenal, weather we agree with what each other says is irrelivant to a certain degree.

Take wengerisim for an example, his constant positivity is something I admire personally but the way he may have worded his posts in a way that rightly in my opinion caused him to get a bit of a doing but still they were his opinions and I respected them, so lay off ted and if he has an opinion that you don't agree with then say so in a reply to his post and don't make a personal attack on him.

We have come a long ways from ed002 being abused to the point of not posting on our page anymore so let's not go backwards now when we have so much to be thankful for on the pitch :)

Agree0 Disagree0

It would be terrible if some one left this site because of personal attracts and anyone who would wish to make some one leave needs to see a doctor a.s.a.p.

You 100 % right Trev we are all entitled to an opinion and if someone's offends you that much ignore there posts better still don't read them at all if it has a bad affect on you.

My thoughts on yesterday.
Positives -
Giroud - another goal from the big man, makes it 4 in 4. He keeps that up we'll be a "one man team" again in no time.

Ozil - pure class. That controlling touch for the opener was sublime, he played some wonderful passes to Walcott.

Rambo - playing like the captain. Controlled the game yet again.

Negatives
Szczesny - man, he's dodgy on set pieces. He has absolutely no control or command of the box. This is EVERY game almost where he either hesitates, flaps or just completely gets it wrong. In my opinion we needed a top keeper in the summer. He will cost us points and games this season

Koscielny - top defender but Wtf was he thinking? The guy was running towards the corner flag - stay on your feet man! Basic stuff.

Walcott - needs to find his shooting boots. No goals in 6 games this season, and he's had some really good chances. Shouldve had 2 or 3 goals AT LEAST by now.

Sunderland are a poor team and imo favourites to either go down or lose their manager first. That being said you can only beat what's infront of you and the team done that convincingly. Our first xi is as good as anyone's imo. The big problem for me though is the goalkeeper. He's a total liability and in order to win the league (which should be the ambition)a team needs a strong, reliable goalkeeper.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Good post AG, apart from the one man team bit I think that's a very good summary

Agree0 Disagree0

Can I turn the Walcott one into a positive? We are winning even though our top scorer from last season is playing like a plonker.

Agree0 Disagree0

Good point Sloth and he won't play badly all season, so when others have a dip in form those who are not exactly shining at the moment can step up their game and take over for a while. Let's face it, its no good scoring 10 past Sunderland and then drawing a blank in next 2 games. Its a long season and if all take turns to win us games that's fine by me

Does anyone on here know the exact rules as far as the difference between shielding the ball legally and obstruction? My pet hate is seeing players shielding the ball till it goes out for a corner or goal kick or whatever without getting anywhere near it in yesterdays game a Sunderland player shoved both arms wide and placed himself in a position where Sagna could not get the ball . this led to a corner for Sunderland. I always believed that for this to be legal the ball had to be within playing distance. which it would have been if the bloke had 10 foot long legs!
I thought Sol Campbell used to push the envelope a bit with shielding a ball out but this was way way too far away. Anyone know the exact rule??

I have a suggestion for a new poll ed if I may? Out of the invincibles team that won the league (starting eleven only) who was our most influential player in it, choice of all eleven. Cheers ed {Ed027's Note - ill do it sometime soon mate

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Or which players from the present team would get in the invincibles team.

Agree0 Disagree0

Bgd you read my mind, there's only one that I have no hesitation in nominating for the invincibles and that's Nickolas B :-) but apart from him I think I would have take my time and have good think about them all. Past and present to give a truly honest opinion.

PS just having a laugh NB really hope you have the last one and have a great season and win a new contract against the the odds
