this whole khedira thing is getting a bit higuain like for me, if we want him we will get him, the whole wage thing is a farce that's been created by the Spanish press, lots of twists and turns to this one I think. If the ed's say we have bid then we have. Wenger keeps things very quiet, so personal terms will never be publicly described any way, noone really knows what sanchez is on its irrelevant, this will happen but not quite yet.

Not sure about you guys but when I saw Cavani is interested in a move to the Prem I was hoping it wouldn't be to us. I think the guy is one of the most overrated players in world football.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - im with you mike..

I would be very disappointed , I see him as a South American Andy Carroll , would not be an improvement on giroud

Agree0 Disagree0

Cavani is not the superstar we all thought he was

Come on Arsene, get the Debuchy deal wrapped up.

Than hopefully Khedira, if not, move on and try to wrap up a very good DM.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

17 Jul 2014 06:04:41
Dags. My sources source at the Emirates told me the Debuchy deal was done in the last week of June. I posted it on the 2nd of July. It was prior to that he mentioned Sanchez and funnily enough Khedira too. Also the goalkeeper Navas was of a real real interest. So far he seems to have been on the mark so to speak. Except for Navas but then again it was only intrest. He mentioned one thing that was a bit worrying that was that Walcott was being monitored because of his injuries!! a little bit more than just keeping an eye on him. Could this be the reason Sanchez has come in? I'm just speculating obviously, I'm hoping not.

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Jul 2014 08:17:05
Hopefully Golds.

Would just be happy when Arsenal officially announce the Debuchy signing.

I think there's more chance of Ospina than Navas, both good keepers.

Nice to see, Barca, "mes que un club, " had no reservations in signing Suarez

First, not being an out and out number 9, no clue how he fits in to "the Messi show" which is quickly losing all it's speed

Last I checked he needs the ball at his feet. Now he has Messi, Neymar, Xavi and Iniesta to cope with. Can't wait to see this not work!

But more importantly, Barca has forever spewed garbage about how they are more than a club, how they have traditions and values that supersede everything else

Glad to know they spent 75m on gutter trash

He lied about the bite until he could lie no more. His remorse is a joke and I can GUARANTEE he does it again.

I could care less about Barca's trophies. Let them have him. I will not stand for a player like that playing for Arsenal.

Guys a racist, a cheat and a pure liar.

Oh, and I thought only Madrid spent large sums. Barca "develops" their players and doesn't believe in overspending

Kudos Barca, best hypocrites in the world yet again

I want a shot at them in the CL so bad. Oh please oh please let us draw those cheating munchkins. I hope they have trouble sitting after we are done kicking their asses

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - i guess your not a big fan then USG?.. :)

16 Jul 2014 23:28:22
I share your sentiments USG. Hate Barca, hypocrites!

But as far as the Messi show goes. he's the greatest!

I'd fancy ourselves against them, although they're attack might prove to be the most formidable ever seen, it's the midfield that made them, the midfield that won Spain it's honours, the midfield that won Germany its WC. and that's what they're declining in talent wise.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree mate, 3 teams I hope we give a humble beating to next season; barca, Chelsea and Liverpool.
and regarding your post about ozil donating to Gaza, you weren't mistaken mate, he did donate for the children of Gaza, around £350000 too. On top of that he also paid for 23 people's surgery.
He wasn't the only person to donate, but its great as you say, that these players are able to keep their feet on the ground even when they are on such a high.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Can I just throw my hat in the ring as a fellow Barca hater, I despise them. One of the happiest days of my life was seeing Celtic beat them in the CL in 2012, a result I predicted to Ed025 the day the draw was made btw. You can pinpoint the start of their decline to the precise minute Tony Watt scored the winner that night.
Fair enough they fluked a 6-1 win this season but even the sun shines on a dog's ar$e some days.
If I can make one person a day hate Barca I can sleep easy knowing I'm fighting the good fight.}

Yup. I am with USG on this. can't wait to draw them at some point in UCL

Agree0 Disagree0

Xavi and Iniesta have been a blessing to Barca, even if they had Loic Remy as CF, he would score 20+ a season

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Jul 2014 15:29:46
At was at that game Ed7! Never been an atmosphere like before or after, anywhere in the world!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - CL nights are always a bit special at Celtic Park but that night topped them all.}

16 Jul 2014 21:18:44

I don't think we're signing khedira after :-(

Lets hijack the Vidal deal :-)

Ozil donates his winnings from WC to Gaza

Above all else, these are human beings. We appreciate their football, but it's only a small piece of who they are.

Situations like this simply reinforce that we have incredible people at our club. And he's one of them.

After a month in that heat, winning that trophy, I as a 25 yr old would be celebrating with those winnings

Not him, he realizes that this is a bigger world with bigger problems than giving up a set piece goal or not tracking back

Cheers to you Mesut. Proud to have you at our club, and proud to see the man you have become

Believable0 Unbelievable0

16 Jul 2014 21:34:36
No doubt the press will find a way to slag him off for this or some stupid ex-German pro or motd commentator.

Well done Ozil - half decent World Cup with some great thru balls, strong first season and a lovely gesture

Let's get the Southampton guy wrapped up to be our CDM and move on.

We need to sort out a centre forward - Remy will do nicely

We need to finalize a keeper plus right back plus a young centre half.

Lots of work to do and we need them training with the team plus playing friendliest because there is no room for errors - so need to start strong. Not like last season.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

16 Jul 2014 21:34:11

16 Jul 2014 23:33:08
Sheeny,

Who would you go for ( in the real world )?

With Sanchez included - that would be a good Summer plus give us pace and power.

Is EPL experience not beneficial also?

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Jul 2014 15:41:10
I'm hoping for Khedira, he's a proven talent with incredible experience.

I'd take Remy but not as our first choice striker.

Lukaku for me is the future but we won't go in for him.

If Balotelli is available at a cut price and modest wage I'd take him. He's a player of extraordinary potential so I'd take the gamble on him hoping that he won't have the same issues he had with the competition at City and lack of service at Milan.

I wouldn't be expecting his attitude to change, for me it would be about getting the most out of him to counteract his play acting. Sort of like Suarez.

Those would at least be ambitious signings (league winners)
Not mid table talent
Take Arteta for instance whose been a great service to us but is just a poor mans fabregas.

Let's stop looking for scraps.

Agree0 Disagree0

So Sami's agent is doing his job and working all sides to get his client the best deal wherever that is.

Sounds like it has a little time to play out still.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

16 Jul 2014 19:25:55
We are not in talks with Arsenal. I don’t think a fee can have been agreed, otherwise I would have been told. When a club have an interest I am sure they will call me and we will speak about things. The same goes for Chelsea.

We are talking to Real Madrid about his contract, but nothing is close to being decided. Sami has just returned from the World Cup and has gone on holiday.

From his agent.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Does make you wonder where all these reports have come from, so many of them, there must be some truth in the rumour(s).

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Jul 2014 20:11:27
Who could say there is absolutely no surprise in that, no one ever really seems to know what Arsene is up to or who he is looking at.

The press feed in a continuos stream of information to assist in the income of the various betting establishments.

As always we sit and wait, I'm still excited about this window and who is yet to come.

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Jul 2014 21:49:20
I might have indulged in the rumours at one time or another but I'll say it again, it'll be at least a week after the WC before he even begins to consider his options.

Agree0 Disagree0

^^^^^very true JT ^^^^^

Agree0 Disagree0

I think he will be an Arsenal player within a fortnight on our terms, probably the same money as Mesut.
I know absolutely nothing ( not news to most people:-) its just my opinion.

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Jul 2014 16:46:02
Not a rumour per se but would anyone else want us to get Bojan Krkic as a squad player since he's just been released by Barca. Read something about Stoke being in for him and it made me cringe.

It's well known he has a glass head and has admitted to cracking under pressure but always felt Wenger could make him shine. Do the Eds have any insight on where he may land up?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Fans would want him offloaded by December.

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Jul 2014 18:22:15
I hope not! He peaked at 16, that's just the way it is for some people.

Agree0 Disagree0

Deportivo I think.

wasted talent, such a shame.

perfect example of a youngster cracking under the pressure of expectancy

Agree0 Disagree0

We just got rid of NB, we don't need a replacement.

Agree0 Disagree0

I would like him at Arsenal. He's obviously a very talented player. Labelling him the next Messi was unfair and unfortunate. That's a lot of hype to live up to, especially when you've came through the same system with the same coaches etc.

Personally, I don't really understand the whole cracking under pressure thing. It happens time and time again. Surely being told something so positive would fill you to the brim with confidence. Hm, I don't know.

Anyway, back to Bojan. He's very versatile and is still pretty young. Doesn't seem like he has a huge ego either, unlike Bendtner. With a little time, who knows, maybe he'll get back on the horse.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think we had this convo a week ago. I agree with NE gooner on this one. I don't see us having much to lose for a player that could be potentially great for Arsenal.

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Jul 2014 16:07:50

Do you not think it's about time all the detractors(who call themselves Arsenal supporters) hang their heads in shame and admit that Arsene Wenger was right all along. We are in the best position we've ever been and can now rule the world. Bring it on!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Ohh Marcus, be careful 'Chumney Sweep' didn't like it when I brought it up, thin ice my friend thin ice. I agree with your post by the way.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think thrre has got to be a lot of work and success before you can say that mate. I don't really know at this moment what you are alluding too. Let see how we progress first before we judge.

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Jul 2014 18:24:26
Get over yourself, people are allowed to have an opinion and call themselves arsenal supporters.

Agree0 Disagree0

I was always behind Wenger mate, but you have to admit them years were tough to take.

We sold star after star as they all got sick of the seamless lack of ambition shown by the club and worse yet, they were moving to rivals.

It was nice to get the FA cup, we seem to be having the best transfer window in years but the real test is yet to come.

That being how we stack up in the league this year

Agree0 Disagree0

Rule the world eh??

Oh come on, we haven't even kicked a ball yet, we have signed Sanchez and now think we will conquer all

Please

Agree0 Disagree0

Why would anyone have any reason or right to ever question Arsene Marcus?
I'm mean its not as though the results at Liverpool city and Chelski were humiliating or anything is it!
Arsene has done a fantastic job for us but not faultless and we all praise and thank him plenty but sometimes we disagree and question him quite rightly too

Agree0 Disagree0

Kudos sheeny, no need for this post.

People might not want Wenger in, I've a friend who has never wanted him as the boss and still doesn't to this day.

Let people have their opinions, no matter how crazy you think they may be.

Every photo I've seen of Arsenal training has had Diaby in it. not crazy enough to believe it but what if this was the year he came good ;-))

Believable0 Unbelievable0

16 Jul 2014 16:04:03
Would love that, for him and for Arsenal.

He's a gem of a player but honestly hasn't been worth the time and better not block the signing of another player because we all know what's going to happen the game after the window closes.

Agree0 Disagree0

IF he can stay fit and injury free he would be an important player. To have him as part of a rotational squad would be great. On his day he is top class. Big IF though for staying fit. I hope he does

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Jul 2014 16:33:59
I was thinking that very thing earlier when I looked at the photo's, a full pre season without any hiccups would be a great start.

There is little doubting his quality when he's up and running. I've got everything crossed for him and would love to see it happen.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't rate him, good performance against liverpool in that one game other than that he's always been poo

Khedira is a top player, no doubt, but I think we should be opting for a more defensive-minded midfielder.

Khedira strikes me as more of a box-to-box type who likes to get forward, whereas a player like Schneiderlin would be happier sitting deep and allowing our creative players to initiate the attack.

Plus he would be cheaper and not demand to be the highest paid player at the club. Add in his injury record, and I just think it's a big risk to take on a player who doesn't tick all the boxes, but is top class nonetheless.

I know Ozil wants him, but for me, Schneiderlin or one of the Benders would be a much better use of money.

Thoughts?

You've swayed me, Khedira and Schneiderlin it is then :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

Said the same a few days back, completely agree. don't get me wrong khedira is a great player, but he is box to box and not the DM we are looking for, note we have wilshere and rambo, playing a box to box role, it could leave us exposed playing 2

question to posters / ed:

If rumours are to believed and our incomings by end of window will be:

Sanchez
Debuchy
Javi Manquillo
Khedira

and assuming no major out-goings (perhaps vermaelen)

What are your expectations of the team this season?

4th place
Champions
champions league.
Fa cup
Carling cup :(

Riddle me this, PSG already broke the FFP Rule and as far as I understand thier net Spend cannot exceed now 60M. (or close do not remember the exact figures),
So they have already bought the worlds best defender for 40m of those, and now bidding 60m for Di Maria. They also apparently have eyes on Yaya Toure. So this
FFP rule or whatever is all b*******?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - by george!...you got it in one aman..

16 Jul 2014 13:33:31
I might be wrong but I think they can sell players and add that money to their transfer kitty, although not sure if they have sold any players of late.

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Jul 2014 15:54:40
Same way Barca are being banned from transfers but have a chance to make a few transfers first.

Really hope they fall flat on they're backsides!

Suarez obviously is a top talent but they are going to have a much weaker midfield. Rakatic isn't Barca quality we've come to expect IMO

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Jul 2014 11:14:02
Really think we should be going all out for Vidal he is an absolute beast best midfield tackler in the world and can't remember him getting injured ever. £30 mil + for Vidal or £20 mil + for Khedira? I know which one I prefer

Believable0 Unbelievable0

If reports are true and a deal of 25m euros (£20m) has been agreed with Madrid and by all accounts Juve wanting £35 for Vidal. Is he really worth 15m more for what arsenal need? I don't think so

I just checked and he had an op in May on his meniscus (ask Dr Greeny) in a rush to be ready for the World Cup.

Universidad de Chile's team doctor, Alejandro Orizola, labelled the operation that patched him up for Brazil "a hasty procedure" at the time, and claimed that "it would always bring with it a regression in his final recovery."

Cut and pasted the quote above.

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Jul 2014 10:37:27
As much as I hate the 4th place trophy and I do with a passion, we have to accept we cannot and shouldn't even try to compete with city utd and Chelski on stupid wage front.
We have to say this is what we can afford and that's our limit and if that means 4th then that's what it has to be, begrudgingly.
Ultimately its the fans who pay those wages not sky or BT and as the players demand more and more the money has to come from somewhere, not Phil Thompson stick it on the debt fantasy football which lead Liverpool to the edge of extinction.
Be it gate money or merchant dice or TV subscription its the fans who pay the piper and will ultimately call the tune or time on the once beautiful game

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - good post mate..

16 Jul 2014 11:06:23
Great post mate but where can I get one of those merchant dice, so I can hang it from my car interior mirror?

Sorry G62, love you really fella.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - love it dags..

Thanks Ed, I think we all get carried away with the money in football these days as if we lose a player who demands just 10,000 a week more than we wanted to pay we all complain, but 10,000 extra per week is half a million EXTRA per year he's asking for and someone earning £500 a week would have to work 20 years to earn that, I think that puts it into a little more perspective

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - it does G62 mate..

16 Jul 2014 11:23:37
Gents,

Please don't get me wrong I was not advocating paying £50 million or paying £200,000 a week for a player hence I said,

"So I'm of the opinion that for price and wages let's pay the most we can to get the best one of them we can"

The most we can as a club, thus if we can pay the extra alleged £14,000 within our pay structure then do it.

We can't compare a footballers wages to our own, they in that respect are on another planet as is Abramovich or Usmanov to them.

My point is simply to get the best CDM our money will buy and if our structure has £14,000 per week extra in it then do it, however obscene that is to you or I, that is footballers wages.

And believe me the wages are obscene. :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i get that jen and its a valid point, i think we may have maxed out with ozil though..

16 Jul 2014 11:49:57

I don't want us to pay over the odds for wages either. But at the end of the day; as fans of Arsenal we pay well over the odds.
So in some sense, I don't worry about it, after all it's not my jobs!

16 Jul 2014 13:39:02

Looking at the BT adds and the way pundits are writing us off already it does seem we really aren't the media darlings! Read an interesting point on another site today ( ACLF) that highlights the problem ( also shows how much of a hypocrite some fans are ) will JW has been getting heavily slated for smoking a player that the media and fans are calling for us to sign has just got hit with a drink driving ban but that doesn't seem to be an issue at all
As far as I'm concerned drink driving is a lot worse than smoking

16 Jul 2014 07:00:30
Morning all,

Just in relation to Khedira's alleged wage demands I really think that this one position is the most important for us to get right and the best ones out there are pretty much Pogba, Gundogan, Vidal, Khedira and Martinez. Not necessarily in that order.

So I'm of the opinion that for price and wages let's pay the most we can to get the best one of them we can.

Ed002 and Ed027 have said our interest lies in Khedira and other clubs, probably Chelsea and United are looking at Vidal and Pogba. One report from I think an ex Juventus director of something says there is a €50 million bid on the table for Vidal with Chelsea and PSG chasing Pogba, really wish we'd join that race :-(

Gundogan is injured and their is nothing much on Martinez but for me we have to get one of them and pay the money, that allows the likes of Sanchez, Ozil, Walcott, Giroud, Chamberlain, Campbell, Ramsey, Wilshere, Gnabry, Rosicky, Podolski and Cazorla to turn the tables on City, United and Chelsea, a must this season.

Also on the BT adverts I'm sure as well as big cars, big houses and not bad looking partners that our boys have superfast broadband including free BT Sports.

So hopefully that constant reminder will be sticking in their throats to make sure it doesn't happen again, so thanks BT.

Oh and please, please, please can the new additions to our medical team work wonders this season and keep us at the bottom of the Physioroom league table whilst the boys are fighting it out at the top of the other one.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - its easy to say just throw money at the problem jen, do you really want arsenal to become a PSG, chelsea or city?...arsenal are a proper club in my eyes and are richer for it, spending say £50m on a vidal or a pogba will bring its own problems, like how will ozil, sanchez, et al feel when this new player is on double, or for some others treble their wages?. for me it could cause resentment and unrest, for me any player who is demanding more than the club can afford, and is holding the club to ransom should be swerved..but thats just my opinion girl..

Sorry Ed025,

Wasn't my intention to give the impression that money should be no object.

It's in my opinion the most important position for us to fill and I know we won't be buying the likes of Pogba or Vidal as much as I might like them here but if it takes the reported £14,000 difference in wages for Khedira then I think it would benefit us hugely to make that step.

I know wages are now beyond ridiculous for a lot of players across the globe and every club has a top earner and that will bring it's own problems with others wanting more but we are not talking Rooney wages who isn't even worth a third of that.

It's an unfortunate fact that players do to a large degree have the upper hand and I know that if Arsene doesn't want to pay the amount Khedira is allegedly after then he won't and he'll look elsewhere.

I would just like us to get the best option we can to fill that position ed. :-)

{Ed025's Note - its a difficult one jen and there is no easy answer, but for me the club has got it just about right with a wage cap, if as reported that is £130,000 per week, then my stance to players would be...if you want the honour and privilege to play for arsenal then that is the top wage, arteta took a pay cut when he left everton and i respect him for that, maybe we should have buckets at the ground for supporters to donate money at each game to top up the players wages.. :)

I think that arsenal have a wage structure and I don't think that will be exceeded. If khedira won't sign for a salary that is within our budget, that's that. I won't hold it against him, he's within his rights to want a certain amount of money, but us paying it is a different thing.

I don't want us to just throw money at them. It's just not a road I think arsenal should go down. And to be honest, I don't think it's a road that we will ever go down with the current management and boardroom.

{Ed025's Note - i hope you right CS, i think arsenal have earned a lot of respect from other supporters for being a "proper club", and i know it can be frustrating at times but i really do believe they are doing the right thing mate..

Absolutely fantastic post Jenjen but an equally fantastic reply by Ed025.

2 totally opposite opinions but both very credible.

That's why I love this site.

I respect the fact that the club don't give in to wage demands When players are earning such insane sums and fans are screaming for big names it must be so tempting to give up the wage control and just pay whatever is asked for
I would rather sign a player who is hungry for success than a player hungry for a fat pay cheque ( arteta taking a pay cut was an immense sign that he wanted trophies more than cash )

{Ed025's Note - i agree BDG..

Thanks for the replies ed025, it's hugely difficult and finances is Arsene's big thing it's just the position we've all been hoping desperately to get filled by a top quality player.

In relation to the wages Pogba and Vidal will probably get from Chelsea, PSG or United it will no doubt dwarf what Khedira is asking.

Hopefully Arsene, Poldi, Ozil and Mertesacker are working their magic on him :-)

If not, maybe it will be Spyder after all Dags ;-)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - if he ends up not coming for the sake of a fraction of a fantastic salary jen...then i say good riddance!..if a player is committed enough to join a great club like arsenal without holding them to ransom, that is the type of character i want at my club, and yes he would be a great addition, but not at any cost for me queen..

When you are talking about this weekly salarys. Is it before taxes or after? Marca writes that Khedira wants 7 milion pounds per year. Is this after taxes or before? And how much in England do you pay taxes? Swedish supporter!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - the top tax rate in england is 45% jonas, but a lot of that is reclaimed back in expenses and allowances, salaries are before tax mate, so its really hard for them to manage...my heart bleeds.. :)
