I think we turned a corner in our seasons dip in form yestercday and there is no better test of that than Bayern on Wednesday.

Its getting a little bit exciting again as apposed to frightening, ain't it?
No it is, honest, I think :-)

Thank you for the really kind posts yesterday, bless you all.

And Ken please spread your theory about how your lucky pants got stretched far and wide my friend, I'm never one to spoil a great rumour with the boring truth, but I absolutely refuse to pay 10p for a bag to carry 4 pts of milk home in.

Morning Eds
So, Mario balotelli, a talent no doubt, there is something about him that's for sure, however, as most have already pointed out, he has mental frailty, according to reports a very difficult childhood etc,
I for one would take him and the madness, what are the chances?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Not great.}

I wanted a piece of them right after that whistle blew in Munich, after 7 minutes or so of diving, cheating and time wasting, when the almighty Bayern Munich were scared rubbishless.

You saw it in their faces. They wanted no part of that fight.

10 more minutes on that clock and Europe is still talking about them as the chronic underachievers.

That's what we need Wednesday. Big boy football. Get in their faces and punch them in the mouth, and then do it again, and again.

I watch plenty enough of Bayern to know teams play down to them, intimidated from the get go.

Enter Shezza, BFG, Kos and Flam.

Time to bully the bullies.

Coyfg!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think Poldi will be bang up for the fight too. The Ox will love to get involved. Could also see Giroud being a battering centre forward and winning headers, holding up the ball etc.

I'm so excited about Wednesday! Bring on the Germans! COYG!

Great battle-cry USG, love it mate

2, Amancio Ortega

These two would do nicely thank you very much. Well you did ask. But just in case you don't know who they are they are the top two richest people in the World. LOL

Gold's I typed it wrong.

What I meant was>>.and at number3 is Goldboy, lol.

Dags if I were number 3 I woud throw a big party at the Emirates with all the players and everyone on here but I wouldn't invite Bentdner. LOL

who wants Mario when we have Yaya

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Id take both as they are completely different players. Both at different points in their careers.

I hate to say this but I am actually warming to the idea of Balotelli. Dare I say it, in Italy he seems to have matured a fair bit and his talent was never in any doubt. (See his world class winner in their last game for an example)

Seriously, I don't know what's wrong with me? Anyone agree or disagree?!

Agree0 Disagree0

I am with you greeny- I think he would be a great signing and would bang in the goals for us. His attitude is the only concern-but if he has matured, then its no brainer.

Agree0 Disagree0

They're essentially both strikers who bully defenders when not on the ball to the point where defenders don't want to get near them when there on the ball, same player not quite the same age

Agree0 Disagree0

Well 2years separating them. Although age and development are two different things

WELSH

Again this is open for debate, Arsenal didn't win because AW got his tactics right, how could he it was a weaker side that the one at Anfield, we won becuase Sturridge failed to hit a barn door with a banjo . and because Howard Webb f****d up, it is as simple as that, yes we played better than we did at Anfield, but that was a big achievement was it.

We had our luck on the day, all teams get it. But let me tell you AW cannot play the same side against Everton and expect to win.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The goals liverpool scored with skrtel hitting the corner post twice in 10 mins, would not have come off if he tried another 10 times.

they had luck on that day winning 5-1.

in 20 mins, every shot they took went in. all corner shots too. tried it again and it did not work. simple as.

gerrard should have been sent off for that tackle on the Ox, so the Red card is moot really.

we won with a considerably weaker squad. and it shows how big a home advantage can be.

Agree0 Disagree0

Banbury why the negativity? I know everyone's entitled to their view but cheer up.

Yeah we all know that maybe the better team lost yesterday. However we beat a full strength Liverpool side with dare I say it, a mixed reserve/first team squad.

Yes maybe we got lucky but there are times this season where we've been unlucky. Our injury list is ridiculous to start with.

My point is, we're still well the mix for three competitions and riding high in the league. Rather than slag off everything just be happy you're not a Manchester United or spurs fan. It could be a lot worse.

Agree0 Disagree0

We won because we scored more goals. simples!

The aim of the game is to put the ball in the net. we did it twice, them once.

Howard made wrong decisions for us too!

Be grateful and just accept it.

Jeez. wot we got to do to please some people eh?

Cammy out!

xxx

Agree0 Disagree0

No one and I mean no one has ever won a cup competition without luck not saying we will win it or anything just saying

Agree0 Disagree0

Laker, they could have had 8 that day.

All I am saying is yesterday we were extremely lucky but as I have previously posted all teams have their luck.

Greeny
Is our injury list ridiculous at the minute? Ramsey and Walcott? Yes it has been previously this season but not anymore.

I have given AW credit, his gamble paid off and we are through.

I was just recognising the fact that on another day we could have been 2 down in 5 minutes . We started slowly as per the game at Anfield.

Now for the Bayern game, it was the Bayern away game last year that was the start of an excellent run, let's hope it is the home game. It is good we are in 3 competitions but there is no way we can win all 3, in my opinion this has been our downfall in recent years . Let's concentrate on one trophy, success breeds success, I just don't want us to be the 'nearly men' again, and hear at the end of the season we have improved, but got nought

Agree0 Disagree0

Banbury mate
liverpool are not 4 goals better then us, they had a great 20 mins and a lot went for them
1st could easy been offside
2nd skitle could not head that in another 100 time like he did.
yes we played a slightly weakend side but unless yr lord wengers butler, then how do you know some of them went carrying knocks.
Wenger will never put a side out that he thinks will loose, well I bloody hope not anyway
banbary i'm going to put a £10 on the treble are you with me on that bet

Agree0 Disagree0

Banbury mate I doubt many people though great selection Arsene we'll win this before the game mate, but Hey ho we did and we're all happy to have got it wrong mate.
You wasn't happy with the team at 4pm and said so but at 6pm you put your hands up.
Bayern next up let's look forward now mate

Got the day off work and I'm bored, so I'm going to ask you a question just for fun.

Suppose you are getting married next week and you have to have 2 best men,

You are allowed to choose>>>

A) Arsenal player/manager past or present.

B) Famous celebrity (non-sporting).

Jenny, you have to have them as bridesmaids so choose wisely, lol. (Or you can choose them to give you away)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Tony Adams as bst man, simply for him organising the stag do, and Kelly Brook just incase the bride changes her mind

Agree0 Disagree0

Bloody hell DG you must be bored lol

Ray Parlour, he must be able to tell some stories

Paul Weller, he could bring the rest of The Jam along and be the evenings entertainment

Agree0 Disagree0

Thierry Henry. I couldn't imagine how happy I'd be haha!

Agree0 Disagree0

BoJo (Boris Johnson) or Brian Blessed

Agree0 Disagree0

John terry, see youse all in the quarters

If I had to have two best man and bridesmaids.

Ramsey is due to be back into full training (again. ) next week and should be available when we go to Stoke away on March 1st, what a game for him to make his return!
His return could prove to be huge, a week after the Stoke game our run is Everton (FA Cup QF), Bayern, Spurs, Chelsea, Man City.
There was a question on here a while back about who would you want to score our 'Aguerooooooo' goal to win the league. For me it's Rambo.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Good memory Paul, that was from me, lol.

I think at the time I said Lucas Podolski and I'm going to stick with the same answer.

Can't wait for Ramsey to return, I bet Ozil is saying the same thing.

Agree0 Disagree0

My choice for the 'Agueroooooooooo' goal changes constantly, one week it's Rosicky, the next its Mertersacker.

Right now I'd go for Wilshere, love how he celebrates and how much he loves arsenal.

Anyone else think we can beat Bayern on Weds? I reckon we can really do a job on them! I have always thought we might draw 0-0 at home and sting them 1-1 at the Allianz arena.

However, I quite fancy us to actually nick a 1-0 or 2-1 win.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yes weneed to approach the game as Liverpool did at Anfield, come out all guns blazing for the first 30mins the Germans will be realing and hopefully we will 2 or more up by half time. then sit back and defend 2nd half.

I believe the momentum from yesterdays game will put the players in a very possitive frame of mind.

Come on you Gooners!

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree.

We must approach the game in a positive manner. Attack them from the first whistle and try to grab a couple of goals.

Make no mistake, we are up against the best team on the planet who are unbeaten in 46 Bundesliga games, but this is The Emirates, home of Arsenal FC, one of the best teams in the world, with the best supporters on the planet.

They are without Frank Ribery, who gives them much needed width and is one of the best players in the world.

He was replaced by Xheridan Shaqiri at the weekend and he scored 2 goals aganist Freiberg in a 4-0 win, but he got injured as well.

I would be happy with a 1-0 win, keep a clean sheet and keep it tight at The Allianz Arena for the 2nd leg.

It's winable and as Mertesacker said "We have to play 2 perfect games to get through the next round".

Over to you Monsieur Wenger.

Agree0 Disagree0

Simple do what we did last time we went there, dominate them! Important to make sure we win the home fixture this time round tho.

Agree0 Disagree0

My Welsh mate might want to shoot me for saying this BUT, 1-1 at home and then 0-0 away means we go out on away goals rule but at least we haven't lost and means we can concentrate on the league

Agree0 Disagree0

Banbury bud
God its hard to see us going threw, but then I didn't see wrexham beating us or for that mater those bloody lucky brumies.
i might be a fool, but I think wenger will play a defencive sideand hope to be still in it next leg
2-2 home
2-3 away

Good win yesterday. A quick question for all, who do ye think has been Arsenals most under-rated player of all time. My vote would go to Ray Parlor. What do ye think?

Limerick Gunner

Believable0 Unbelievable0

My vote goes to Tomas Rosicky. I would rate him one of the most underrated player ever. :(

Agree0 Disagree0

Parlour was definitely underrated.

Gilberto Silva was hugely underrated too.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yaya Sanogo yesterday.

I can't believe people were criticising him throughout. I haven't seen a centre forward give Skrtel and Agger that much hassle for a long time.

There's a couple of games in the league coming up against non-top 6 sides and I hope he gets another chance in those.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm going to agree with Greeny on this one.

Our record with Silva in the side, in front of the back 4 was unbelievable.

Terrific player.

Agree0 Disagree0

My choice would be Silva, was a huge player for us.

Agree0 Disagree0

I get a lot of stick for saying Eduardo is one of our best finishers for a long time, shame of his injury.

Agree0 Disagree0

Akie, no stick mate because you are quite correct. If he stayed injury free he would have been up there with Thierry and Wrighty.

Agree0 Disagree0

DG, always wonder "what if" with Eduardo. I really think we would have won the prem in '08. He was on fire.

Agree0 Disagree0

I Quite agree. If Eduardo didn't get injured that day we would have walked to the title.

Agree0 Disagree0

Parlour and Rosicky - great choices. But how about Flamini round 1, midfielder that played left back all the way to the CL final.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't know about underrated but I was gutted when we let go of Overmarrs.

Agree0 Disagree0

Rooster i'm with you
rosicky, or flamini

Morning Lads,

Buzzing off the win at the weekend! Hope the confidence can give us that extra boost going in the Bayern game.

Just realised that we've had a home fixture for every fa cup game this season not to mention we also had chelsea at home in the capital one cup with every match being televised!

Add that with the kitty of the new puma deal and many other small sponsorship deals we couped this year. Well let's just say I'm hoping Wenger invest into the team and we make a real push on at least 3 fronts come next season!

Bring on wednesday! We're playing the best team in the world as long as we put in a die hard performance I'm not bothered of we get knocked out. Can do with a not of rest week!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

17 Feb 2014 10:29:29
Well that was a fantastic FA Cup draw and obviously delighted with the result.

Im currently eating humble pie for breakfast. After seeing the line up before the game I thought no way we would win. But fair play to Wenger, making that many changes took some elephant sized balls. But it payed off and we will now have Sagna, Gibbs, Wilshere and Giroud fresh for Bayern.

Fabianski was superb, he really deserves a first choice spot, whether it be here or somewhere else. Defence was its usual solid self. Koscielny was a beast. Monreal looked a weak link, but to be fair to him he was up against Suarez whos movement is immense.

I thought overall our midfield beat theirs, which won us the game, we were very quick to close dowm Coutinhio/Gerrard and shut out their supply. Ox was marvellous and Ozil did well too. Podolski showed why he should start ahead of Cazorla. His goal was pure strikers instict to burst into the box from a counter attack, somthing we really miss with Walcott out. Whenever Pod plays, he scores. Dunno why he doesn't start more.

Also fair play to the Liverpool fans. can't remember the last time a opposition fan came onto our page to congragulate us. They also didn't abyse us after the 5-1 obliteration. So well done to them, they are a credit to their club.

My team for Bayern.

Szezsceny
Sagna - Mert - Kos - Gibbs
Wilshere - Flamini
Ox - Ozil - Podolski
Giroud

Caz and Rosicky on if we are losing, Arteta and Monreal if we are winning.

COYG

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Detroit I completely agree with your post and especially your team for Bayern.

The pod has to start against his former club. The Gnabster, Cazorla and Rosicky as attacking subs too.

Agree0 Disagree0

Arteta is not available, I suppose. He is suspended.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry guys have to disagree but only with one player (Wilshere) I would play Rosicky instead, only for the fact that Jack still coming back from injury the Germans wil be all over him like a rash due to size and that could lead to vital mistake in midfield giving them more momentum. I allways feel his best coming on as an impact player like we used Walcott last year.

But Detriot & Greeny still good selection, and looking forward to match best chance we have had in years.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd love to see that starting XI but I don't think AW will go with Podolski. He seems to prefer Rosicky and/or Cazorla against tougher opposition.
Unfortunately I can also see Monreal getting the nod ahead of Gibbs, really hope he doesn't though as Gibbs has been outstanding for us this season.

I was lucky enough to get a ticket for the game yesterday, and thoroughly enjoyed it(great atmosphere too).
I would just like to say, that Yaya Sanogo is a better attacking option than Bendtner already.
I saw the highlights of the game last night, but they didn't show how much hard work the young lad put in.
Good team performance, hope this confidence carries us through to the Bayern game.COYG

NOW YOU CAN ALL READ WHAT WAS IN ARSENES HEAD YESTERDAY .
As of 2012-13, UEFA awards €2.1 million to each team in the play-off round. For reaching the group stage, UEFA awards a base fee of €8.6 million. A win in the group is awarded €1 million and a draw is worth €500,000. In addition, UEFA pays teams reaching the first knockout round €3.5 million, each quarter-finalist €3.9 million, €4.9 million for each semi-finalist, €6.5 million for the runners-up and €10.5 million for the winners.[55]

Playoffs: €2, 100,000
Base fee for group stage: €8, 600,000
Group match victory: €1,000,000
Group match draw: €500,000
Round of 16: €3, 500,000
Quarter-finals: €3, 900,000
Semi-finals: €4, 900,000
Losing finalist: €6, 500,000
Winning the Final: €10, 500,000
A large part of the distributed revenue from the UEFA Champions League is linked to the "market pool", the distribution of which is determined by the value of the television market in each country. For the 2012-13 season, Juventus, who were eliminated in the quarter-finals, earned nearly €65.3 million in total, of which €20.5 million was prize money, compared with the €55.0 million earned by Bayern Munich, who won the tournament and were awarded €35.9 million in prize money.[56]

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Golds, we have £140m gaining interest in the bank. Is he really worried about a few million for an extra round.

He changed the team but we got the result so he's actually rested our strongest team (or some of them) ready for Bayern.

Personally, he needs to be given credit for pulling off a master stroke of team selection.

Now we can give Bayern everything!

Good win tonight, although Liverpool were the better. However it was important to get the win, to get the belief back, confidence back and hopefully to bring better performances.

Interesting stat I read today regarding flamini and arteta playing together, considering not many of us like to see them playing together:
With them playing together;
Played 13, won 9, lost 1, scored 26, conceded 9.
Without them playing together;
Played 13, won 8, lost 3, scored 22, conceded 17.
WoW!
It's not just those stats either, with the 2 playing we have more shots per game, more crosses per game and more possession.
Have we been blind? Lol

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Wow. interesting stats Waq. I was always of the impression that we under-perform when those two are together. Well. stats don't lie. Thanx for the info

Agree0 Disagree0

I too don't like them playing together. Rambo and Flamini are our strongest pairing (IMO) though.

I know Podolski doesn't track back well, but I'm a firm believer in his talent.
Anytime the guy plays he seems to score,
If we play Cazorla, Rosicky, Gnabry, or any other player in his place. They don't seem to be as clinical.
Prince Poldi needs to be playing from wide left, he's the perfect outlet for Ozil.
Anytime Ozil has had his astronomical assist stats, it has always involved players getting in behind defenses.
I feel for Le Prof this season, simply because of the fact that Walcott and Poldi have been out for long periods. If we had a complete ful team this season we would be out of sight.
Only my opinion.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Pod is a legend

Agree0 Disagree0

I really hope Wenger gives him a nice long run of games. He certainly knows how to score that's for sure

Poldi is a ledge! He has to start on Weds along with the Ox!
