Hello Charlie!

Hope the head is better.

Looks like Wenger has said we now have improved funding for the first time and Ivan confirmed from 2014 we will have more.

Looks like funding was limited and Wenger had to make do.

One things for sure - we all want our Arsenal back. I would like it to be with Wenger as he has won things, transformed the club and stuck by us while oil funded clubs out muscled us at a time when he took a lot of stick.

The man has class and is a winner

Lets get behind him and the team

Let the board do the rest

I will back AW if these reports are correct. But, it does not alter the fact that he is stubborn, does NOT have a plan B and plays people out of position. He has transformed the club as a whole, no-one doubts that, but his selections and systems do often bemuse me and have cost many points, so yes, come on AW but let's have a back-up and get the correct positions for the players.

Henry is unlikely to be rejoining Arsenal in January according to the Metro and Gerard Houllier!

Quote "I am not sure both parties want to have this second comeback. I think Thierry needs rest. He is about to become a father and I think he will want to enjoy the break."

I feel he would be an unnecessary signing, especially considering we STILL have so much 'deadwood' floating around the club to rid ourselves of before we make any more additions.. I would be happy to see some players leave, e.g. Squillaci, Chamakh, even if we didn't bring any more in until the summer.

any ideas why verminator has lost so much form this season {Ed027's Note - too much pressure from Bouldy, he wants TV5 to sort the mess out on pitch, which he should as captain, but he's not up to it, even though hes a defender we should just let him play, somone like Arteta or Sagna would do well

Believable8 Unbelievable0

He was captain at Ajax, and while I understand captaining them is different from us I always find it hard to understand why he is finding the responsibility so hard.

Agree4 Disagree0

I think it is because he lacks protection ahead of him...

He is being asked to cover a huge area of the pitch, and given the lack of Pace of Mets... he has to be everywhere.

His workrate is fantastic, I suggest you look into the opta stats of distance and area covered by TV5... you will be shocked at how much he is being asked to do.

All the more reason for a proper DM that can give us something different to Arteta, who is very good, but is not a traditional mobile DM, for a team that defends with a very high lines.

Frankly, Song wasn't this player either. You need someone like Nigel de Jong (not HIM, but LIKE him...). Someone, mobile, who can slot into the CB position, if the defender is pulled out wide by the attacker on a counter attack.

Think about the arsenal team in attack... we are effectively, a:
GK
CB CB
WB CM CM WB
RW AM LW
ST
This means that if the WB back cannot make it back in time, we are instantly exposed.

The purpose of a CM/DM is that it allows the CB to drop back or shift wide. The CM/DM must be able to slot into either the WB or CB position.

(*The decision of who goes where, is as much about positional sense as it is about mutual understanding.

GK
CB CB--->
WB CM CM WB
RW AM LW
ST

To conclude.... TV5 does not have a DM/CM who drops back, which means, he ends up covering both...

So give him a break.

Billybob

Agree3 Disagree0

Nice reply Billybob, agree with reasons totally. This is why it is important that our fullbacks and wingers know their job and tactics better.

For example when Gibbs or Sagna go forward one of our CM needs to drop over and cover or Podolski or Ox need to be ready to cover, but it seems they are not sure what to do and who should do it. Gibbs lacks experience and Podolski doesn't seem like he wants to do that job so the Left side is a problem, hence TV5 being stretched.

The right side is not such a problem with Sagna but the Ox does go to sleep later in games leaving Sagna exposed.

Not sure what the answer is but these players have the skills and pace to do it, but it needs to come more naturally.

This isn't being helped by constantly playing different players in these positions.

Agree2 Disagree0

I think this is way we saw a far more conservative approach from Arteta during the Reading game. This co-incided (spelling) with a much both Merts and TV also staying back far more.

Many of the problems we have had has been that TV will be the one that will often try to cover the gaps that perform between Midfield and Defence which open up gaps which good opponents exploit.

Good post.

These are the players we need to replace. Anyone has any ideas when there contracts are up.

Fabianski
Santos
Squillaci
Djourou
Diaby
Rosicky
Ramsey
Arshavin
Denilson
Gervinho
Chamakh
Park
Bendtner

Believable3 Unbelievable5

18 Dec 2012 23:02:35
Rosicky is ok

Agree9 Disagree2

Not many then this will take wenger 2 3 years

Agree0 Disagree1

I'm not sure but I think Bendtner, Denilson and Arshavin's cotracts are til 2013.

Agree0 Disagree1

Shouldn't take Wenger 2-3 years just because there are a lot of players.

Santos - this Jan or summer
Flappy - same
Squid - same but may be running down his contract, not sure when it ends, we couldn't give him away.
Djourou- he's off soon
Diaby - might be hard, who would want him?
Rosicky - would be snapped up in no time although I want him to stay
Ramsey- staying (dammit)
Arshavin - I'm sure a deals done already
Denilson- surely will be sold in the summer
Gerv- cant see Wenger selling, wish he would, cross him off the list though no?
Chamakh - gone in Summer if not this Jan
Park - end of season
B52- end of season.

Apart from Ramsey, Rosicky and Gerv I would not expect anyone on this list to be an arsenal player by the end of August.

Ed, honestly how many players do believe will be signed by Arsenal this coming january? If so any ideas (Names) please? {Ed027's Note -someone like Diame, and a proven striker, this is what i expect, i think we'll get Diame and a unknown gem

Believable0 Unbelievable5

Wow thinking back on it, quite a shame we didn't jump at the chance of Garry Cahill, correct me if I'm wrong but he. Isn't starting most games and is a top class CB could of been good with verm and also manages to grab the odd goal here and there!

Believable6 Unbelievable14

Know he is the worst CD in Chelsea in one of the worsts forms of his career... PM4 is far far better, just look at his internatiol record, than look on the pitch with open eyes and you will see it

Forums like this make me awfully excited for the transfer window in January, but then we must think again, it's Wenger we are talking about and a lot of these rumours sound great, but realistically won't happen I'm afraid to say. If we win our next few games Wenger may feel as if the squad is already as strong as it needs to be and won't buy anyone special.

It amazes me how ridiculous some people are on this website, the terms "out of favour","he wants to" and "x costs will cost this many million" get bandied around too often. If any of you had a clue about what happens in football (not saying I do) then on only very rare occasions would you actually know any of that information. On another note eds what do you think the chances are of Maicon being brought in during January to replace Sagna? He's out of favour at city, will be cheap on a short contract and i heard he does not like it in Manchester

JG

Believable4 Unbelievable11

I also can't stand people using the term "out of favour".

Oh wait, you did.

Paul

Agree11 Disagree4

Haha what?! You say all this stuff about 'put of favour' and then go on about MAICON who signed in the SUMMER who maybe just hasn't settled yet and mention it as a serious prospect? Come one, double standards or what?

Metal Gooner

Agree7 Disagree1

Im fairly certain he was joking with the bit about Maicon.

Agree10 Disagree1

How did no one realize he was being sarcastic? o.o

Yeah but sarcasm is meant to be delivered in a way that makes it sound like sarcasm not genuine opinion....this post failed, sorry!

Metal Gooner

Agree5 Disagree4

Maybe your just annoyed because you didn't realise it was sarcasm, and feel a little bit silly now because everybody else did

Haha no I don't get annoyed because I miss a bit of sarcasm I get annoyed because even though English is our first language people still struggle to use basic punctuation to style their writing in a sense that conveys their meaning.

Woke up this morning with a bounce in my step after our comfortable and important victory yesterday evening.

AFC reminds me of an iceberg, 1/3 exposed and 2/3 hidden. Wenger represents the 1/3, he is what the supporters and public view. The performance of the club determines his credibility. For the past 7 years we have seen this part of the club have limited success considering our previous 8 years with him in charge. As such the vocal few call for his head, stating that another manager would get it right. An interesting observation considering the 2/3 of the club which we do not see (Board/Ownership) have given this man they're full belief.

I make this point because would it not make sense to know the whole story before we condemn Arsene? He himself eluded to the financial circumstances of the club and stated that we are moving towards a strong fiscal period for the club. Now I ask those detractors, who better than Arsene to make use of our impeding financial viability?

I have always been amazed by the detractors of Arsene. Allow me to say that I do not believe he has been perfect. I believe that in hindsight certain decisions regarding purchases and tactics could have been different but I ask you to convince me why anyone would be better equipped to run our club in as dignified manner as he has considering all that we do not know about the club?

Arsene is a man who has made mistakes but last night he once again showed me that he understands this club better than anyone. He gave Walcott the chance to shine, he did! Now Walcott has a decision to continue his growth with the club or to walk away. I believe his performance last night only increased his value, and this is what makes Arsene great. He helped the club, the player and if necessary another club increase the offer to Arsenal.

Those who critique should question Gazidis, the board and the ownership with regards to our financial limitations. Why is a player of Walcotts talent not worth 100k when others of inferior quality make more at other clubs?

And this is why I believe Arsene is too easily made the scapegoat. We blame him because this is the only part of the club we see. Perhaps we as supporters should open eyes to the truth and question those who deserve to be questioned, perhaps then our blame can be directed at the appropriate party!

Gunners4Life, In AW we trust!

Believable15 Unbelievable2

I share many of your views, wenger has made some odd decisions but he is a sitting duck and even said he has been restricted in the window great post mate

Yorkshire Gooner Joe,

its not just me beating my head against a wall...

Agree6 Disagree2

Yorkshire, I appreciate the kind words...

What I find interesting is just how quick we are as supporters to turn on Arsene. We have grown into one of the worlds largest and most successful clubs under his guidance. Yet we believe that he is the catalyst for our inability to win silverware in the past 7 years.

We fail to acknowledge the change in the marketplace, the directives of the board and ownership and the will of the players who have left. Yet during this 7 years we have built a world class stadium, been fiscally responsible, have remained competitive on all fronts and despite all this a few clamour for him to be replaced without knowing the whole story....truly fascinating.

I sincerely hope Arsene and Arsenal return to glory because it seems extremely ridiculous that he is being persecuted as the villain. Arsene is perhaps the greatest supporter of the club and I believe he has earned our trust and respect to guide the club within the confines presented to him.

i have a bad feeling when we play wigan we wont play podolski walcott chamberlain we will play podolski giroud gervinho/ramsey that is something wenger would do and if that is the case we will loose

watford gooner

Believable11 Unbelievable6

You're probably right. I cant see Wenger leaving his 2 favourites on the bench again, it may hurt their feelings. I think he needs to try the same 3 again, however i wouldnt mind seeing Giroud up front, Theo on the right and Pods on the left. Either way im happy if ramsey and gervinho r no where near th starting line up.

anyone know what TV and Bac Sagna were arguing about at the end of the game?...i could just about hear TV saying "let it go let it go" and gibbs was pulling sagna away.....

also something made me feel that podolski and theo arnt on the best of terms...i feeling is we have too many players that want to play the solo striker role we play and that creates almost some competition within that can deter unselfish chemistry. i would bet anything that Podolski thinks he is a better striker than theo is...but now you got theo basically indicating that he wants that role or else he may leave....we really need some out and out wide players...wenger has too many right now that want to play the middle.

Scooby Dooby K

Believable4 Unbelievable4

Sagna was arguing with Kebe firstly, secondly Podolski isn't a centre forward- his preffered role is just behind the striker or on the wing. This is just totally nonsensical.

Agree5 Disagree1

Podolski is better than theo in that role.

The arguing is about the match ball. Cazorla want to take it but a reading player kick it. Bac want to confront that player but Verm told him to let it go.

Latest betting odds(source s transfer specials) on who is going where pre Feb 2013 should be a good indicator;
- Walcott to Chelsea 5/4
- Chamakh to West Ham 4/9
- Ba to Arsenal 4/1(favourite is Liverpool)
- Fellaini to Arsenal 5/1(favourite is Man Utd but we are second favs)
- Downing to Arsenal 2/1('Boro are favs)
- Liverpool odds on for Llorente and Sturridge
- Cabaye to Arsenal 4/1(favs)
- Huntelaar to Arsenal 2/1(favs)
- m'vila to arsenal 11/8(favs)

Bookies don't often get things wrong so looks like Chamakh is off; walcott is off;and we possibly get that nutter m'vila....not great business if that happens. {Ed001's Note - clearly you have no idea of how a bookmakers works if you think they don't often get things wrong!}

If you could pick 4 realistic enough players to buy from the Premier League, who would they be?

I'd pick:

Hatem Ben Arfa
Raheem Sterling
Leighton Baines
Edin Dzeko

15-25 mil signings who could all shine at Arsenal.

Nick.

Believable7 Unbelievable5

Would pick none of these

Agree2 Disagree6

Only a blind man wouldn't have Ben Arfa - everyone in the world calls him an exceptional talent, every paper, every pundit, every manager, but some guy on an arsenal rumour site doesn't think he's good enough? Pretty sure he's only 23 as well.

Agree4 Disagree2

RVP
Kompany
Mata
Yaya Toure

Agree7 Disagree0

Yeah maybe they are some great players there, but when it comes down too it, the question is whether they would fit in with the style of football we play. I only say this because I can't quite comprehend Dzeko at Arsenal for some reason.

I feel as if Wenger should of done everything he could to snap up the CB vertonghen who is now at spurs. He would of been great with vermaelen as they were together back at Ajax. I think we missed out on that one big time

Believable5 Unbelievable10

Too similar, both prefer CB but will fill in if needed at LB, we already have a top class CB on the bench in Koscielny which is the only reason he chose the Spuds to get first team football.

Agree4 Disagree0

We already have two far more mobile left sided centre backs in Vermaelen & Koscileny. The Toot are still shipping goals for fun & the pedestrian Vertonghen hasnt helped. They have concede 25 to our 17.

Agree0 Disagree0

If koscileny is a top class centre back then why isn't he starting? From my perspective vertonghen is miles ahead of mertersacker and the point I was trying to make was the exceptional chemistry and defensive record they held together.

Agree0 Disagree7

Vertonghen chose not to come to Arsenal because Wenger wanted him to play DM not because he thought he'd have too much competition at CB.

Great result last night. Personally I think Wenger should not be sacked but if we keep spending nothing and winning no silverware then over the next few seasons he should do the right and dignified thing to leave. For him to win a trophy with arsenal over the next couple of seasons would be a dream, I hope that will happen before he does depart.. In Wenger we trust!

Last nights win was a good win, with cazorla playing well, however, there are still dfensive doubts. We need to sign a 15 mil plus centre back in jan. Any thoughts

Believable2 Unbelievable11

Ogbonna looks good.. tall, strong and pacey.. a prerequisite of which our CB's are currently missing. Think he already has his admirers in the PL tho.

Agree2 Disagree0

I think we should invest in a top British centre back... I don't think its a coincidence that the most successful teams have this.

Mish

Agree1 Disagree6

Just because a player is 15m plus does that make them great?

TV5, Merts & Koscielny were all 10m or under so are they rubbish?

Agree7 Disagree0

Angelo Ogbonna is certainly the man, strong, fast as hell and with enormous tackling abilities. No disrespect but levels better than the way Kosc and Verm are playing right now...

Agree0 Disagree2

Lescott anyone?

If we want him we will have to fight off interest from both Juventus who need a replacement for Lucio and United for Ferdinand both have well documented interest unlike us and I just don't see him at the club. Very good player though.

spain is bankrupt, its nearly on its knees!!

barcelona announce it has given new contracts to 3 of its star players.

arsenal have vasts amounts of cash reserves and new sponsorship deals and we cant agree a lousy £100k a week for theo
walcott?

nb52 has been in england to have an operation on an injury being carried out by an arsenal consultant.he earned £52k a week for being on loan for the last 2 seasons.
i bet we were offered £4-5 mill over the last 3 years and we refused the fee?
good players get £100k a week, theo is proving to be a good player.

walcott will be worth more to the club on a 5 year contract than a 6 month 1.
even if you sell him a year down the line he will be worth around £25 mill.

this will show me if the club is being run properly, walcott new deal is a no brainer!

sy4 sorry if i took too long to get back to you but i was at a xmas party last night and got pissed and stoned and have a big head today:))

it was a good result,we played the worse team in the pl. i expected nothing more after the bradford result.
it just showed us all how bad wengers decisions have been over ramsey and gervinho?"did you notice that"??

stoner,
your getting the wrong impression with me,i have all ways just wanted a better quality of player at the club.
i just wanted them to take the next step in being a better club.all it ever took was for them to go out once in the 2 teams wenger has built over the last 8 years and buy those 2-3 extra players.no1 can tell me with what resources we had and a manager that has been at the club for years could of not found £50-60 million to finance this?

would we be like rangers or portmouth?

would we have broken ffp rules?

even if we used the money to keep our best players would we be a force now?

if we had won 2-3 cups we would of paid for those players or wages.

january will show us all what direction the club is going.

i do not want players like zaha unless we are adding 3 ready made players in the mold of cazorla.

we have waited long enough for players of a high caliber to be bought.
the club said we have money and reserves there is well over £140 mill there.
ast projected kitty--£70mill
emirates new deal----£75mill

there can be no excuses any more.

wenger has till january to show me what his intentions are!if he does not spend on quality he will be gone in the summer.
i have no doubt about that!
the fans will turn on wenger if we do not at least qualify for the cl.this year will be the hardest in 16 years.

wenger is stubborn he will not be pushed around and this will be his down fall.

can you see wenger spending £70-£80 in january?

metal hes never going to play 442,give up!
wenger will play the same formation as long as hes at any club!
i have no problem playing this formation as long as you have the players to do it.
stick sweinstiegher(spelling)or de rossi to the team it helps add hulk or canavni and it works.
untill wenger spends serious money on players we will never be able to play that formation, this is how top clubs play.

a big stadium should never have empty seats!
for the last couple of season i have noticed there is 3-4 thousand seats empty at most games.
this should never be happening!
they just cant be bothered any more.people use to all ways find money for football.
a stadium like ours was built to be full every game.it was suppose to be a statement to the football world that we are a big club.
we have to start this transfer window.

i want a better quality arsenal on the pitch we have went with out for too long now

Think would Wilshere would thrive playing next to a solid Wanyams/Capoue type DM, with Cazorla the CAM.
Arteta has been excellent for Arsenal but I think Wilshere will be the deep lying playmaker for the team if and when a solid DM is signed. Thoughts?
Would love to see and out and out winger come in January too, a bit of competition for Ox on the right. Isco isn't an out and out winger but would be very dangerous and would make runs and chip in with goals.

Believable5 Unbelievable3

Well Arteta is the deep-lying one while Wilshere is a box-to-box

Agree2 Disagree0

Wilshere's more of a link player, and he's brilliant at it. Arteta does the playmaking. Agree with you that we need a DM though.

Last night demonstrated that we are a team dependant on mobile attackers.

Giroud is a good plan B, but is too static. He does not draw defenders back, to open up space for our attacking midfield players to make runs and get creative.

Hopefully, Walcott stays but if not, we need an attacker of similar mold.... THIS IS NOT HUNTELAAR.

We need pace and mobility. Our goals are predominantly team goals, RVP hid this fact, but that is how Arsenal play. So everyone needs decent finishing.

I dont think we learnt much at all last night, other than reading are going to be relegated.

Giroud's one of our better striking options if not the best. he's great at holding up play, not afraid to swing a foot towards goal, works hard to get the ball back and makes amazing knock-downs from anything in the air in a 5-mile radius.

from what's been seen so far, just like Arteta, Chambo, Cazorla and Podolski, he's willing to take a shot from range without feeling the compulsive need to walk the ball in.

what we need is a fast and wild striker playing off of ball from Giroud or drawing defenders out to create space. KJH might not be the best option out there, but he'll certainly do the trick. his availability in the Champions League would be a concern though.

Good result, still think wenger should go. lets see if he spends some of the huge transfer kitty he has on world class top talent or penny pinches like he normally does. It is true about wenger and bould not getting on, you could see that with the shocking defending again last night. He won't let bould do his job. If we don't win a trophy he should go, eight years is to long. Forget what he has done, he ain't done rubbish for last eight years not even a league clubs. Fans are to sentimental, and not realistic. We will not win a trophy again with wenger as manager. IF we went 20 years without a trophy the wenger lovers would still support him.We need to spend big and spend our budget but, he won't do it and we will continue to struggle. 4th place every year not good enough for Arsenal. We should be winning atrophy a season like we used to. WENGER OUT

Believable1 Unbelievable13

"like we used to"?

wait, what?

Wenger's won the same amount of silverware that the club won in about 50 years before him. right now, he might not be on the best of runs but have some realistic perspective, Johnny No-Name.

Well said psychocist..... I am at a loss to un derstand why the idea of not winning in 7 yrs but actually COMPETING in all competitions every year is seen as abject failure...
tottering hotspurt fans go omn about the failure!! yet they would give their mums away for 16 yrs like we've had! (and all the great players we've had)

Agree3 Disagree0

Whoops meant to put in name---not Johnny but Yorkygooner - again well said psychocist

Agree0 Disagree0

Plus, this whole thing about 7 years without a trophy thing gets a bit over-played. yes, when you look for the black and white in things, we don't have anything new to show for our efforts, but it's not like the club just gave up. the first 2-3 year after the move from Highbury, we were still up there challenging for things. it's from the '08/'09 season that things really went downhill with having to sell some players off, having others want out, while the rest lay on the doctor's table injured or just gave up.

we're finally looking like a better squad and at least some meager amount of positivity is warranted.

Have been reading some really negative posts this morning, here and elsewhere. I guess people will always find a bad point to pick on.

Just wanted to say that last nights game was great to watch for anyone who loves football we could have shut up shop at 3-0 like most other teams would have, but we don't do that and I love that about Arsenal.

Most negative comments involve us letting in 2 goals, so what! I would take 5-2 in every single game.

Gibbs made a very un-charactoristic mistake for one of the goals, and the other goal - it happens.

I would much prefer that formation last night and score loads, even if it means we let in a few, have'nt checked today but I think we still have 'one of' the best defensive records in the league?

Anyway, really enjoyed last nights game and all the Doom & Gloom merchants need to get their heads out of their A*ses, we need 2 or 3 additions and 4 or 5 to leave and all will be good.

We need to keep Wenger, get David Dein back and throw out 'silent' Stan and get Usmanov in and then we can compete with bigger clubs with our players but still be rich enough

Little Gooner

Believable8 Unbelievable4

I agree with Dein, but swopping Kronke for Usmanov might not be positive. Kronke hasnt taken funds out of the club, nor put us into debt. He merely remains in the background. Whereas Usmanov, has only suggested that an issue for £100m be raised to provide funds to purchase players. This would mean fans financing the issue & agreeing not to charge interest. At no stage has Usmanov stated that he personally will put his hand in his pocket.

Banter Please Ed

I had a thought on Aaron Ramsey this morning, and particularly, why we are seeing him deployed on wide right.

Beyond the defensive cover it can provide, Wenger has famously played central midfielders in wide positions to develop different parts of their game.

Wilshere - played wide left occasionally
Ramsey - Right
Diaby - Left
Fabregas - Right

In the case of Ramsey, I think most people share my view that he should sit as a deep lying player maker. However, one of the problems of Ramsey's game is his lack of movement and ability to engage in quick interplay (see wilshere/arteta/ramsey).

I think Wenger still wants his long-term central midfield pairing to be ramsey/wilshere - however Ramsey needs to speed up his passing.

By playing him on the wing; he will usually be tightly marked by the fullball, and this requires his to be less static and make quick passes.

While I would agrue with the critics, that unfortunately, this has to done on the training ground and not when points are at stake.... I do at least understand the rationale.

Wenger has excellent positional understanding, and while he occasionally gets it wrong, most of the players he converts do well as a result (pls don;t argue people, I can't be bothered to make the list, but it's a LONG one).

Billybob

Believable10 Unbelievable2

I hope so

Agree0 Disagree0

Really intelligent post and I would say that you are probably right.

This would point to Wenger genuinely recognising that we are not competitive from a League or CL perspective due to the volume of changes to playing personel.

He may be now looking to transition players in (such as Gnarsby, Eisfield, Coquelin etc) and improve the players he has (Ramsey, Gervinho, Walcott!?!) to improve their flexiblity positionally ready for next season when we should have the funds to compete.

Hackney Gooner

Ramsey is nowhere near good enough to play for arsenal.he is to slow and constantly gives the ball away he is at best a mid table team player should be sold straight away.

I tought that was a great performance from the lads last night.

Ive saw a few people (not all on here) saying "yes but its only reading they were awful" yes they were bad but its the same team that took 2 leads over united and only lost 4-3...

Ive saw people say "yes but they didnt press you and let you play" well they pressed once and look what happened, 1 ball later theo was 1 on 1... they were petrified to press because they know 1 good pass and theos through with no way of catching him... they had to sit off and let us play..

Wenger got the tactics spot on tonight. roll on sat

The goal that Theo Walcott scored just shows us why we should keep him and play him up front.

Reminded me of an Henry-like finish; class, composure, technique and an opposite foot finish if you don't mind.

Cazorla...no words. Unbelievable talent.

Podolski had a good one, but then again I can't think of anyone who had a bad game.

What was that between Sagna and Vermaelen at full-time?

Sagna looked pretty heated. He needs to keep a lid on it, last thing we need is a good victory marred by in fighting.

If he cant work along side his captain and fellow defender than maybe its time up for Sagna.

Wouldn't expect to see Jenkinson behaving that way...

Believable0 Unbelievable7

Did'nt see that! Although TV5 was much more vocal last night which is great, maybe Sagna did'nt like it but he was out of position at the end for their last goal, but this was due to him getting forward more when Ox went to sleep a bit.

Lets hope this will be the spark we needed! A few observations:

1. Theo lacks finishing but adds a dimension to the pace of our attack. I believe that a trio of Giroud/Podolski/Theo and (a January buy and Henry loan) would be a strong group up front.

2. A strong DM is needed. I still would prefer us to revert back to a traditional 4-4-2 with Wilshire in the middle with a traditonal strong holding midfielder, Carzola on the left and Chamberlain on the right.

3. Still one too many brain cramps from our D. We seem to inflict our own punishment with careless mistakes. Gibbs (despite Wilshire slipping) made a needless pass in the middle of the pitch that quickly ended up in the back of our goal. This is where I belive Bould needs to be given the freedom to inspire and teach.

4. Forget talk about Reina, Szczesny is the real deal, but I think this talk is more of a ploy to light a fire under the boy, I believe he has the tools to respond.

5. Arsene Wenger deserves some acknowledgement. I understand it was only Reading but 5 goals away and playing Theo upfront indicates the manager is still able to raise the level of play and acknowledge change, considering the week the club had I say good on him.

Alright, Christmas is here and tis the season for Arsenal to do well! Well played tonight boys, lets take the same enthusiasm to the next match.

Gunners4Life, In AW we trust!

Believable5 Unbelievable4

1. I think we should give Walcott a few ganes to decide whether or not he can become a central striker.
2. Agree fully, I would like to see a four man midfield, as follows: Wilshere, Fellaini, Abu Diaby & Cazorla.
3. Agreed, I also believe our current formation causes such problems.
4. Szczesny is definitely a quality keeper, but lacks experience & we need two quality keepers.
5. Wenger is obviously a quality manger, but has become increasingly stubborn, in respect of zonal parking, perseverance with odd formations & the use of too many small technical players in midfield.

I would like to see us go on a run & push above the Toot & Chelsea, possibly challenge Man City for 2nd place.

Happy about the win but I'm still not convinced we've turned the corner. We've had results like this this season which have papered over the cracks.
I think gary neville hit the nail on the head by saying what we lack is a central midfielder willing to get in the box and score goals.
Viera, fabregas and parlour were all good at that and that is what we're lacking. Yaya Toure's form at city is another reminder of why such a midfielder is crucial.
I hope wenger listens to gary and pushes Carzola on the wing to bring Rosicky in the team. Maybe I'm being pessimistic but I dont think playing Walcott upfront is a solution to our problems, we just played a very bad side who managed to let a 4 goal lead slip last time we played them.
