You want the mood lightened so your asking dags for some jokes? Are you nuts ;) hehe, love you really dags

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed 002 is a beast, his info is great and why would anyone take his brash approach personally - I love it & bring it on, all of the eds do a great job and he is a beaut!

Squad looks pretty set a GK and Bony and then let's go win this thing!

My wife is carrying our 1st child.
He's 12 years old, lazy git.

I would never cheat on my wife.
I love my house too much.

I was doing some decorating, so I got out my step-ladder.
I never knew my real ladder.

Have you ever noticed that when you give a homeless person money for a cup of tea, you never get the tea.

When someone close to you dies, move seats.

I was having dinner with the boss and his wife last night.
She said "how many potatoes do you want?"
I said "one please".
She said, "come on, you don't have to be polite".
So I said "ok, one please you fat cow".

Batman smashed me over the head with a vase and said "T'Pau".
I said, "Don't you mean Kapow?"
He said, "No, I have china in my hands".

Interesting noises from Arsene today. Subliminally he implied not much more transfer activity - "we are ready to fight", "jack plays better in front of the defence with the game in front of him" (no DM?). He looks relaxed and confident so I'd guess we'l get a goalkeeper and then take a stab at pulling off something "ozil-like" and if it doesn't come off I'm not sure he's too bothered. Still think we are the weakest of the top four defensively in terms of cover so would like something in that area especially if Vernaelen is off. Someone mentioned De Vrij earlier and he does look a player.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Arsene is a great man of deception. Who knows what he has planned in the pipeline. I really hope to see a true dm join us though. Maybe next thursday lads?

i remember a similar incident last summer where someone pissed of ed002 and we lost him for a while, now I don't post regularly but I am on this site everyday and the eds do an amazing job. and the posters are pretty amazing too. loosing either is not good for the site

so eds just to help with resolving the multiple questions, and not using the search function issue. would it be possible to use a tag function.

e.g if I mention "bender", then the post is tagged and if someone wants to read all your comments and input, or other posters post then simply they could select that from a drop down menu. like maybe have a new page called arsenal tags, and should I click on "Bender" all comments/post are available to read. just like when I click on dags name it shows us all his posts and comments.

i don't knw how much work and effort would go into this but if we can help in this in anyway (apart from obviously using the search function) do let us know.

Valid suggestion mate.

I would love to post some site improvement suggestions, but I don't want them public, as apart from the regular posters, I feel a lot of plastic posters might jump in and take it for criticism and not the constrictive kind.

any way to do this eds? or shall I just post it in the banter section?

I'm trying to give up smoking. My last one was 34 and a half hours ago. If you see a bloke climbing a tall wall, it ain't Spiderman.

Who remembers that ferrero rocher advert at the ambassador's party. It's like that at the Arsenal at the moment. "Mr Wenger with these new signings you are really spoiling us".
You've given us the ferrero Arsene (Sanchez), now for the scotch egg (quality D.M). It ain't a party without a scotch egg. And a cig!

I haven't had a ciggie for 5 days now (cold turkey) largely due to the fact that I have been unwell and have been in so much agony with constipation issues that cigarettes were the last thing on my mind since Monday. Having said that my intention were to give up last Monday anyway although I had failed with many previous attempts. I guess some positives had come out of being unwell with stomach/constipation problems.

Hi Eds and fellow Gooners,

Following the picture that was uploaded from Balotelli's girlfiend's Instagram (those who haven't seen it, it's them two stood infront of a pane of glass with the Arsenal crest and Puma logo), is there any genuine interest still in him?

What do you guys think of him? Would he be a good fit for Arsenal? Would Wenger be able to tame him?

Many thanks!

Not sure what is happening with Campbell as squad numbers have been updated with Monreal 18 and Coquelin given 34. Joel still has no number. Would be a shame for him not to get a chance unless Arsene is going to loan him again which will make the player ask for a permanent move.

I don't know if anyone has a link to Wengers full press conference today but he apparently made quite a few interesting hints.

I haven't found a link of him but multiple blogs are saying that he said Walcott would be back in full training by the end of August and that Sanchez would probably start on the right wing while he's out.

He also said this about Wilshere -"Wilshere's best position - in the future - is as a deep-lying midfielder in front of the defence where he can be a distributor"
Because he can win the ball, he is intelligent tactically, has a good burst to come out, has good vision. Wilshere is better when he faces the game than with his back to goal."

Also, one Arsenal blogger tweeted this - AW effectively confirming he signed Sanchez for the same reason he wanted Suarez: his versatility allows him to play both w/ & w/o Giroud.

Lastly Wenger said this - "We can play with Giroud, we can play without Giroud in a 4-4-2 or in a 4-3-3."

I've been wondering a lot whether we're going to change our formation and well it seems like we might be based on what Wenger said today. A 4-3-3 with Ozil-Sanchez-Walcott sounds superb to me.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think Ozil is best played in the nr10-role, where he can distribute balls to the flanks and also put in balls behind the other team, when he played out wide for Germany in the WC he seemed lost many times on the pitch. And considered the signings we have made and particularly the ones we didn't do( fabregas), I think Wenger will build the team around Ozil from his role as nr10 in a 4-2-3-1.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Any fantasy players on this site, how do you only pick 3 Arsenal players?

I want to pick one Arsenal defender as we keep so many clean sheets.

That means I can only pick 2 out of Sanchez, Ozil, Walcott & Rambo.

How can anyone make that decision? Its liking picking a favourite child.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ozil and ramsey, walcott will be injured until december and sanchez well its harsh isn't it

Banter please Eds.

Been a while since my last post but have been watching as I always do.

Firstly, as always hi to ED002, ED025, all the other EDs, Jenny, Dags, G62, Akie, USG, Flybo (if he comes on and sees it), Golds, Rocky and anyone else who I have forgot!

So time for me to put some more thoughts down in writing.

Firstly - Balotelli. All window I have been saying that I think Balotelli would be a good addition and for some reason I can't shake the thought that Arsene might take the plunge.

Firstly, we need a bit of nuttiness in the squad. I would love to see how he behaves when playing Spurs. Could be worth the investment just for that!. But seriously, we all know that he has been trouble, but he also has a heart of Gold. Take a look at the money he gives to people who have difficult lives. He is a man with morals and who feels for his fellow man when he thinks they suffer beyond what people should. How can anyone who has such in him be all that bad? If anyone can bring the best out of him it would be Arsene, and at the price that is being touted, I just think he would be worth the punt. Also, he is not our only striking addition this season now, with Campbell and Sanchez available next season, if he has an off period, it wouldn't be the end for us.

But on his day, he can be unplayable, and that is something worth having.

Defensive midfielder - Khedira, Khedira, Khedira. Would have him, but if we don't get him so what? People want to play for us, people understand what it is to be a Gooner and if Khedira doesn't then be the mercenary and move to somewhere more fitting. I have always preferred Bender anyway. Younger, sharper and a brilliant technical DM. If not Morgan Schneiderlin.

CB - Really wanted Ginter, but that boat has sailed (sadly). But why not Hinteregger? Quick, technical, strong and warrior mentality. The only other person that I have seen who is young and was really impressive in the WC (I know, only 6 weeks) but God was I impressed with De Vrij of Holland. He won everything in their Semi Final.

GK - Just get Ospina. He looks like he would really scare Schez and bring the best out of him if there is more to come.

The Squad - It looks really well balanced for the first time in a long time. Pace, power, winning mentality and options, real options for the first time in a long time. This may well be the single most important part of Arsenal this season. Having quality options means less chance of burn out for key players. Which in effect may give us a better chance on multiple fronts later in the season.

Youth - People are talking about the 25 players etc, but look at what we have at under 21 or in the reserves. Eisfeld, Zelalem (who I think is someone really special) Dan Crowley, Jon Toral and the list goes on.

Arsene has been very astute. He has built a core, he has held them together and now we are adding "fire" to that Central Arsenal core, who are Arsenal through and through. This could be a team with other investment over the next few years that really could be build on a strong foundation and built for sustainability.

I am really looking forward to the season ahead. We have stayed in the top 4 with limited budget for more than 10 years, balanced the books and sewn the seeds for a positive future.

So I ask one thing of us all. There will be bumps and there will be curve balls. There will be people we want and don't get, as money will swerve the attention of some footballers, but anyone who wears the shirt for Arsenal should be proud, as proud as we are to support them, if not, your not for us.

I want us as fans to support our Club with verve, with passion and with a level of understanding that our intensity, positive or negative either fuels the fire of our team, or dampens it out.

Let us carry them this season, and in return they will carry our hopes and aspirations and as one Arsenal we are definitely looking towards exciting times!

As always, sorry for the long post.

Love to you all.

J

Hi J,

Great read as always, couldn't agree more, the competition in City and Chelsea is going to be as tough as it gets with Liverpool looking to emulate last year and United potentially back in the mix.

But at last feel we are getting the additions to do something really good this season, to not be afraid of facing anyone. :-)

Lot of debate about khedira for me he is a class player but not what we need. We need someone just to sit and he is not that man. For me there is only 1 player I want and that is javi Martinez! It won't happen but oh my he is perfect for us. What's funny is all the DMs we are linked with don't play DM for their team spyder has wanyama or cork sitting next to him and bender has rolfes but I think if you told them to sit they would do a good job. Can't see khedira being as disciplined.

Also would you rather we bought another winger and stuck sanchez up front? Or bought back up for giroud and put sanchez on the wing?

.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Good question

I think a direct competition signing for the big man up top would be best rather than another winger

Remy or Ballotelli seem to be the only Strikers available of the right quality

Id be happy with either to be honest.

It makes such a nice change to be worrying about these nice problems in a transfer window, rather than who's leaving next. Doesn't it?

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Jul 2014 12:58:05
Just read something interesting online and thought I'd share. Regarding our CDM hunt and possible replacing of arteta:

"Morgan Schneiderlin immediately stands out as a player blessed with both the physicality and composure to step into the Spaniard's shoes; no player has managed more combined tackles and interceptions than the Frenchman's 466 (6.75 per match) across the last two Premier League seasons, while he was the most active passer in a Southampton side that averaged more possession than any other team last term.

Khedira, then, is an outstanding player and would unquestionably improve any side, But he is not as perfectly suited to this Gunners side as others could be, and entering into a bidding war with Chelsea for his services could see Wenger wrongly fall for the lure of a statement signing ahead of true necessity."

Its from a journalist obviously and they all have their own opinions but what's interesting is the stats.

It's a no contest for me, he ticks too many plus boxes to be overlooked.

Would be cheaper, less wages, hungrier to prove himself on the big stage and seems to be more the type of player we are lacking.

Bender would be good to but he has already came out and said he wants to stay in Germany. Spyder would jump at the chance to play for us

Schneiderlin should be our man IMO and we need to move before the new King of de spurs decides to go back and lift him

Believable0 Unbelievable0

18 Jul 2014 13:29:21

Ed002's replies come across so arrogant and cocky. It's as if you don't wanna answer our questions. Take a leaf out of Ed025's book.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I don't want to answer most of the questions - they are repetitive because only a few searched for previous answers or reads the posts. If you would rather I stop answering questions on the Arsenal page then I can do that - let me know.}

18 Jul 2014 14:32:01
Gooner Mike, if you reckon Ed seems "arrogant and cocky", you may not realise that you seem like an unappreciative little sook. If you don't want your inane, repetitive question slapped down, maybe don't ask it then. Here's a tip, if you want to find something out, try having a read first. If you can't find the answer, then it's probably because it hasn't been asked. I think you'll find Ed more than happy to answer it. I get annoyed reading the same question over and over, so I can only imagine how boring it is having to actually reply to them all the time. Then, to have someone complain at you because you show your displeasure at it? I think the Ed shows a great deal of restraint when faced with monotonous posts. Don't come on here and slag off the person giving us such great info mate, I know which one I prefer, between getting accurate transfer news, or reading someone having a whinge.

Ed What is the latest on Khedira? has a bid been accepted by real? Thanks

{Ed013's Note - A bid had been accepted, but it seems there is something slowing things down in negotiations with the player}

Something being the wages I assume ed?

Ok I am going to throw this out there, with Sanchez and Debuchy in and a few out we have already had a heck of a transfer window.

If all we did was swap Campbell for Sanogo, get a backup GK, either keep TV5 or replace, I think I would be fine with the way the squad looks and call us a contender for the league. We have a lot of midfielders and by january would know how much Arteta, Flamini and Diaby have in the tank (I am a big supporter of all 3 by the way).

So let the blades fly ;-))

Hi ed with balotelli looking for a move to arsenal do you think we will act on it

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed013's Note - There was interest earlier in the Summer, but not heard anything for a while. Maybe the World Cup has put Mr Wenger off or he could be happy with his current signings}

18 Jul 2014 10:05:33
Just a feeling I have, but isn't it funny how things can change in a year.If it had been last july we lost out on(as it seems)a big signing like Khedira we all would have slayed Gazidis & co totally. After the signing of Ozil and now Sanchez we just remain confident and shifting target to nr 2 on the list. It, s really like being insides Wengers head(on a good day) and I like it.Am I the only one with those ideas?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Lol while the concept of being in wengers head is a little out there mate I see what your saying.

Few seasons ago we would have been screaming to sign khadiera.

Always linked with big names and knowing we never had a snowballs chance in hell.

Now its as you say "Right you don't want to join? We have somebody else in mind anyways!"

Good times brother, can't wait for the season to get started!

Banter please ED

Hi All,

Just been looking at our squad on arsenal.com and must admit I am just wondering how we are going to get to our squad of 25. The First team squad current shows 1 x GK, 8 x DF including Debuchy (not shown), 10 x MF and 9 x FW. That makes 28. Ed002 kindly advised that players must be U21 on January 1st of the year in which season starts i.e. January 2014. That means Ox, Zelalem and Gnabry are our U21’s leaving 25 in the squad. Assuming that Djourou has gone to Hamburg. We have 24 in the squad.

We need a DFM, another striker and a GK as a minimum to strenghten. We have also said we could with an extra centre back. Where are they all going to fit?

If Miyaichi and Coquelin go out on loan or go completely that gives us the two spaces we need for the above minimum.

Back up players for GK and CB may have to come from Academy but the like of Martinez and Miquel are now over 21.

Who do you think we should be looking to move on be it loan or permanently to make the needed space. Looks like we may need to find some young talent.

Thoughts?

Shezza debuchy rosicky poldi
2nd cb jenks arteta giroud
u-21 cb mert wilshere walcott
koscienly ozil sanchez
vermaleen ramsey sanogo
monreal cazorla campbell
gibbs flamini
(2) (7) (7) (6)
* ** ***

* someone on here mentioned a u-21 cb at the club (i can't remember the players name), that would be a good option if vermaleen stays, or swap vermaleen with a new cb and use the u-21 as 4th choice.
* talk of a loan for RB, that would take the total tally to 8 defenders

**i think diaby and coquelin will not be listed in the 25, will be kept and used in the cups
** new CDM (khidera, bender, whoever) takes a spot
** zelalam is u-21 so not using quota, therefore 8 midfielders

*** ox & gnabry, as u mentioned u-21
*** miyachi, shouldn't be listed, don't knw why we haven't got rid yet
*** campbell will be included (i believes, so given a spot)
*** that makes it 6 in the forwards sections, possibly add another cf to make it 7

3 gk
8 defenders
8 midfield
6 forward
that's 24, possibly leaving a spot for either diaby or new backup cf
and supported by 5 u-21 players

Not really related to Arsenal but who got the best deal here;

Fellaini - £27 million
Lallana - £25 million
Kroos - £24 million

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - i would say everton jenny.. :)

Lets not forget all the pundits on here demanding Fellaini in and Ramsey out. Chalk one up for Wenger!

Surely it was Bournemouth who got the best deal

George Graham on Jack Wilshire.
" His career has not gone anywhere in the last eighteen months"
What are people's real thoughts on this comment do you agree with George and in reality has it gone beyond eighteen months?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - i think its fair golds, i know injuries have played a big part of that, but for a guy with so much natural talent, he has under achieved on a massive scale for me mate..

18 Jul 2014 08:36:27
Golds,

Agree with Eds comment.

Massive season for Arsenal, but even more for Jack.

Agree0 Disagree0

I was actually going to post last night if people thought Jack had done a Rooney and has already peaked. I didn't for feer of the abuse and people calling me ridiculous *insert ellipse*

Agree0 Disagree0

Jack can't coast this season and use the excuse of being injuries, he needs to step up and be counted this season or be left behind, this is a new arsenal and not one that stands still anymore, I hope he steps up as u think he is fantastic and it would be a waste of talent if he doesn't.

Agree0 Disagree0

Feer? Sorry, fear. Geez Louise.

{Ed013's Note - Don't worry about spellings, people get what the poster is talking about}

18 Jul 2014 12:17:58
Jack has the ability to turn his form around as Ramsey did, I'm just not sure he realises it as much as Ramsey.

Question for Dags and the rest of my fellow Gooners who want Remy at the Emirates next season.

Would you be happy with a cut price Balotelli instead of Remy? It may mean starting a new cult though Dags.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

18 Jul 2014 07:14:51
It was funny because I looked at the photo which I think was tweeted of himself and his girlfriend in front of the Arsenal Puma advertising.

The thing that stuck out was the T-shirt he was wearing with the skull and crossbones warning of poisonous logo on it.

Think that sums up what we could be buying and at a best ever 14 goals in a season is he really what or who we need.

I have huge doubts about him and our squad seem to get on so well together, just a big big gamble.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - it would be a gamble jen because i dont think he sees himself as a squad player, his ego demands that he should start every game, and while he is a very precocious talent, i cant see that happening..

18 Jul 2014 08:34:32
Great question Outback and good comments above from Jenjen and Ed.

For me, Nuttytelli represents a much bigger gamble, and worse, the end of Giroud as our main man upfront.

Can you see Nutty sitting on the bench? There's more chance of him sitting on a Magistrates Court bench than a sub's bench.

Remy, for me, will compliment the team more, he knows Giroud from the French squad, and I think will bring more harmony to the team.

Agree0 Disagree0

Dags
what if Giroud starts hitting on remy you won't be jealous would you?

I have to say, I like Balotelli. It's one of my guilty pleasures. I think he could be truly great, if given the right guidance. For me, that hasn't happened yet. He had an even bigger ego for a manager at Inter in Mourinho, he had an even bigger nutcase as manager at city in Mancini and he has had to deal with a lot of crap since being at Milan. Maybe I've seen too much Hollywood, but I can see him making a redemption story, the bad boy come good, I hope it's at Arsenal. But, realistically, I don't see Wenger being bothered with the grief, not at his age.

Khedira is a complementary player

He looks great on Madrid and Germany surrounded by world class players who make his job positioning only

When Madrid plays Barca, Khedira is exposed every time

I'm not saying he isn't great, but he's not worth 150k a week, that's absurd

He wouldn't have even played if Gundogan was healthy, true story

Also, amazing how a good World Cup run inflates values

James is amazing. 63m quid, gtf out of here. Absurd

So James is worth 63m and Alexis costs 35m, ok, that makes sense

Don't buy into the WC hype, pay attention to how they play in the middle months of a long season, that's where you find your gems

Believable0 Unbelievable0

18 Jul 2014 08:37:35
Great post USG.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree about the WC thing totally US but there's a reason Real want to keep Khedira and chavski want to get him ahead of us!
I wouldn't pay him more than Ozil, I'd offer him the same take it or leave it, get here show us how good you are in an Arsenal shirt then we can talk about more money.
Arteta took a pay cut to join us

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Jul 2014 12:20:47
I'm secretly hoping that whatever the hold up is in the Khedira deal, pushes us to make an offer that Leverkusen won't refuse, for Lars Bender. He has everything we want from Khedira, the energy, the physical presence, the ability to get involved in attack. But, he has more defensive awareness, loves to tackle and is younger. Although, I'd also be happy to take Khedira, if only for the statement it would make, landing a Chelsea target.

Wenger knows what he is doing. We will sign players that make us a better team and this includes his pholospies. If khiedra wants too much money then he is nor for us. Good luck fitting into the Russian London team with cesc and everyone else they decide to buy! We did well last year and we will continue to move forward. We are in the best place we have been for years. FA cup winners and more to come.

I know there have been many posts about this, but the Diaby hate irritates me

He cannot control his injuries

But let me remind those of you, who weren't around say 8 years go or so, when Diaby arrived, he was a starter

At Anfield in the CL knockouts, he started and scored, and Liverpool went on to lose to Milan, but he showed up that day when a lot of our guys didn't

That was ages ago

And right besides Cesc, Robin, Hleb, Clichy, Rosicky and co, there was Diaby

Let's not forget his PL performance at Anfield a couple years ago to start the season either

Best player on the pitch by a mile

Come to think of it, when healthy, he's one of the few players we have had this last decade, who consistently performs in the big matches. ( Ya I'm looking at you Cesc, and Robin and Samir)

From Wenger, to Blanc, to Deschamp, they've all said Diaby, healthy, is one of the first names on the French team sheet, regardless of who else is available

For how tough that kid has had it, I hope he stays healthy till the start of the season, and it can guarantee you two things

He will start, and he will dominate

He may be injured a lot, but when healthy, he's our Yaya. We should embrace the fight the kid has to keep going.

I for one think he, over maybe a thousand professional footballers, deserves a full healthy season

Good post USG, but I think in most people's minds, when they think 'Diaby', they think 'injuries'.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree with USG - but as for me when I think of Diaby . Ithink what a poor sod- all that talent and he's stuck endlessly in ops or rehab.
He is still a credit to himself for refusing to give up.
