Alex Song has hardly kicked a ball all season, and when he finally starts a game, he gets sent off.

Silly boy.

Thanks for that Dags, suddenly I don't fancy my egg and bacon as much now

I'm not saying Remy is the finished product, far from it.
He's 27, some would say that's the age strikers reach their maturity.
He has a goal ratio of 1 goal in every 2 games, playing for the likes of Nice, Marseille, QPR and Newcastle.

Smiles again. oh yes those 4 world class sides lol

Dags you clearly see something in Remeeeeeeeee that I don't so on that basis WENGER go and buy the bloody bloke so we can see who is right lol :)

Hehe I knew I would finally grind you lot all down.

Banbury, for £8m you can't go wrong mate.

I have the terrace chant ready mate,

"There's only one Loic Remy, walking along, singing a song, walking in a Remy wonderland".

Join in everybody, lol.

Prefer Campbell over Remy.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jun 2014 07:55:07
I see Campbell as a left winger for us, not as a striker. Remy would be good for us; I agree, Dags. He's definitely the type of player we need but is he good enough? Honestly, I think Remy should not be our first choice going into the transfer market. Balotelli should, even if he costs us £25-30 with £180,000/week. If we don't get Balotelli, I will be satisfied with Remy.

Agree0 Disagree0

Balotelli would be exciting and fill me full of child like happiness unwrapping a new bike at Christmas, Remy would be like getting socks, better than nothing but I wouldn't exactly be rushing to show my mates what I'd got that's for sure

How Chile played is how we should be aiming to be like. Play with pace and power. Teams can't handle it.

Talking of Chile what I'd do to have Vidal and Sanchez. Unreal footballers!

Hi well with the new fixtures out we can start to look forward to the new season.

We have the Saints at Anfield so it should be a brilliant fixture for our new signing Ricky Lambert.

I see that you are linked with Super Mario. He has lots of issues but he is a really gifted player and if Arsene takes the plunge then he could be a fantastic signing for you. I would love to see him back in the Premier League. I would have him at Anfield without hesitation but of course we already have our own special talent in Suarez.

I hope that Walcott is progressing well after his injury and that he is fit to start the season. As some of you might know he is my favourite Arsenal player and I just wish he would come and play for us.

You may well now be starting to recover from the disappointment over Cesc moving to Chelski. I think that I know how you feel as many Liverpool fans still wish we could get Xabi Alonso back (even after the shocker he had for Spain tonight). Looking at it from outside your club I think that it is maybe the right thing that Arsene did not re-sign Cesc. You have plenty of strength in his position and you probably could do with a solid more defensive midfielder along with a striker or two.

Looks as though you may be in for Pepe Reina. He may still have it in him to be a good keeper but he lost his focus at Anfield. Moving to the |Emirates could kick start things for him and he could be a good signing. Personally I would spend a bit more and get Begovic if he was to be available.

One Gunner that I am not too impressed by at the moment is Jack Wilshire. I know he has had lots of injuries but to me he seems to have stalled in his development. Sure there is time left for him to get back on track but I think that if he does not do it this season then his career may be on the slide.

Looking forward to seeing how our transfer activity pans out as it is going to be pretty difficult to keep in the top 4 this coming season. Hopefully we can both be in the mix again and keep Manchester United and Spurs outside the Champions League places.

Anyway just wanted to say hello now that the fixture list is out and we can start thinking about the new season.

Good evening Tommy, always a pleasure.

Yep, a big season coming up mate.
As usual, it will be the haves (Man City/Chelsea) versus the have not's (Arsenal/liverpool).

Everton will be strong again, Martinez will get them fired up.
Man Utd have money to spend, but I can't see them getting a fraction of the players they are linked with.

We need to spend big. As you said, Begovic would be a great acquisition, as well as a centre half, defensive mid, right back and a top rate striker.

Time will tell mate.

Chimney.
This isn't banter. It's comments like yours about Ian Wright that put me off what is a great site.
How can you say that a man who was days away from packing in football in his early 20s suddenly gets a chance to play professionally. Works like a dog to get where he did with Crystal Palace, gets to a FA cup final gets a move to a club like Arsenal, then becomes in his time the clubs all time scorer. A legend at the club! It could have only taken a player like Thierry Henry to beat that total. Utter nonsense your comments

Wright was a legend as a player but a bit of a knob as a pundit and clearly has some issues with being dropped by AW
He should show the club more respect

Agree0 Disagree0

A quote from Mr Sweep

"But, and there's always a but, Ian wright I guess wasn't much more than a lazy git with a bad attitude when he joined us, so you never know."

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm going by what Ian wright said on the radio when he was on talk sport. Was talking about joining arsenal once and said he was lazier when he was a younger footballer and that changed when he joined arsenal.

Not sure if this conversation has been had on here before, but I'm worried about jack wilshere.

I'm not 100% sure his heart is in it. He seems to have a pretty bad attitude, is out boozing more than he should and smokes. Also, constantly injured.

I like wilshere as a player, but I've got a horrible feeling he's the new Rooney. Past it by his mid 20's.

Just a thought.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

18 Jun 2014 21:10:38
I've got a feeling that overthinkers and needless scrutinizers, who can't let a 21 yr old kid live his life, are probably the reason

England always underachievers at the World Cup

England players never, and I mean never, live up to their hype internationally

The golden boys, Gazza, Owen, Rooney. fizzle out before they're even 30

The machine that is "England" makes them hate football

Not just footy, cricket too. Flintoff and KP prime examples

Personally, and not as an Arsenal supporter, I'd leave if I were Jack

The kids been hurt and still people are all over him

Playing in England, with the demands of an unreasonable fanbase and awful press, will ruin his career like a cancer overriding his body

This isn't to pick on your post, because there are probably 10 million people in England who agree with you

And another 300 million outside of England who think that 10 million lot are absolutely nuts

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Jun 2014 21:56:05
You both make very good points.

For me, the jury is still out on Jack, which in itself is bad because we should not be talking about Jack's potential.

I know he is still young, but in this Arsenal team, and the role he occupies, we should already be talking about him as a borderline world class player.

The jury is still out, but I have a feeling I'm going to repeat this exact same post in 2 or 3 years time.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - he does himself no favours dags, not all of his problems are injury related mate..

It's been mentioned once or twice before. I disagreed before and il disagree now.
He's had some poor luck with injuries. To say he's out boozing and smoking. Ok he's been photographed once with a fag in his gob. Is he constantly smoking? Do you follow him? This is banter by the way

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i admire your loyalty rocky, but for me its a bit misplaced my friend..he is a young guy with a lot more money than sense, and is in danger of being another gascoigne, in the sense that he has wonderful talent, but the brains of a rocking horse mate..

Jack needs a very good friend and quick to tell him like it is, who'd have believed 5 years ago David Bentley would be retired at 28 because no me wanted him.
It wasn't injuries but attitude that ruined a potentially great career, he should be at the world cup not looking for a life outside football.
Jack wake up

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i could not agree more G62, but the clock is ticking mate, so his friend needs to get a move on..

18 Jun 2014 22:45:28
Totally agree with Ed on this one.

As G62 always say's " we should be talking more about his on-field play and not his off-field activities".

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jun 2014 01:44:48
Perhaps I'm out of the loop living in the US

Other than the smoking and pub incident a year or so ago, what has Jack done wrong off the pitch?

I'm confused

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I am not sure we can discuss them on here mate. It could get potentially get us in a lot of trouble.}

19 Jun 2014 05:53:28
Look everybody. There is a lot more to what is going on with Jack than some people are going to be allowed to post on this site or want to take the chance of publishing. I know for a fact Van Persie had similar issues at Arsenal and it was put down to him being injured so I will leave it at that. How long does it take for a players potential to come through?
Ian Wrights potential came through when he hit his 20s and turned Pro. He went on to become a wonderful footballer as we all know. I agree with Ed025 and if you give most 22 year olds the money Jack is picking up you shouldn't be sitting there wondering why he goes a bit scatty sometimes. But on the other hand people expect him to be professional at all times. Let me tell you this IT isn't GOING TO HAPPEN AT HIS AGE! . So I think potential may kick in when the maturity starts and there I believe lies the confusion. I believe a player has shown his potential when he turns pro. Then it's all about how he matures from then on in.
There is a big difference.
Some players never mature. The lifestyle, the money and the fame is a big ask for most people to keep under control when you are so young and what people have to understand is that the majority of these players never grew up in wealthy environments most are from working backgrounds so can you imagine what it's like for them? It must be like winning the lottery every week. Maybe if the wages were controlled then you might see what everyone expects to see. But expecting a young guy in there late teens and early 20s that's earning a fortune to behave like a thirty year old and calm down in there private life is a bit too hopeful.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - thats a fair assessment of the situation for me golds, he can still turn it around though mate, lets just hope he does..

Fair point goldboy, but I don't think it always has to happen at his age. Obviously they weren't and aren't watched 24/7, but players like Walcott, Ramsey, the ox etc don't seem to have the same problems. But in fairness, the three I mentioned seem like fairly intelligent well rounded guys, where as wilshere, with the greatest of respect, doesn't seem to be at the same place mentally. That's obviously not always an issue, but I think maybe it makes you more susceptible to the kind of positions he gets himself in.

He's got wonderful talent, though. But how long will wenger tolerate poor professionalism?

18 Jun 2014 20:43:46

To Chimney Sweep

RE your comment's.

Read your post mate. The reason I took exception to it was because what you said. I quote>>

"The only reason you like Remy is because you heard a rumour and there's a romanticism in football that turned your head a bit"

Really mate? I found that very patronising and demeaning towards me.

For the record, I'm not a 15 year old schoolboy who hasn't decided what team he is going to support until he reaches adolescence.

I'm a 47 year old man who has supported Arsenal for over 40 years, through thick and thin, good days and bad.

The fact that you can suggest I would like a player to play for Arsenal purely because I read somewhere that he is an OK player is laughable as well as naive on your part.

I know Arsenal and everything about Arsenal and can make up my own mind about who I think will strenghten our team without having to read Roy of the Rovers or any football related article.

Basically, I'm big enough, wise enough and certainly knowledgeable enough to come to my own conclusions.

Secondly, your second comment, (which in fairness to you, was a response to my post having a pop at you.

"Oh, I see you are only happy if people agree with your opinion, and if they think you are wrong you get upset"

In answer to that, everybody on here knows me, including Ed025.
If I make a comment or a post, I am doing it to express my opinion. I don't do it to get peoples attention or anything like that.

I make a comment based on what I believe I know, be it Arsenal or otherwise and I'm pretty certain, actually I am 100% certain, that nobody on this site, Ed's included can say that I can't take a little bit of banter.

Like I said, If I post an opinion, it is just that, my opinion. I don't look for approval from anybody, and if anybody disagree's with my opinion, they are free to express there opinion.
If it differs from mine, we discuss it and talk about it.

I have never, despite your suggestion, got upset if somebody disagree's with anything I have posted on this site. Far from it, I love a bit of banter.

So Chimney, I disagree with your assessment of me.
That said, If I misunderstood your original comment and took it the wrong way, I wholeheartedly apologise and offer you the hand of friendship.

If not, than we would have to agree to disagree, and may the banter continue.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The romance thing was a tongue in cheek comment. It wasn't something that I meant literally.

i actually don't mind football as it is/was. diving is cheating, cheating is part of any game. sometimes goals aren't given when they should be, no need for stupid video replays, sometimes the linesmen get it wrong, some refs are more lenient than others. its all part of the beautiful game, the more BS you cloud it with, the less about the football it becomes, and the more it allows tv stations to advertise during every little break, I don't want the beautiful game going the way of american football. I love arsenal because we try to play the beautiful game and make it as beautiful as possible, I hate stoke because they try to make it as disjointed as possible, I can't help but feal all this nonsense about new tech etc. makes the game more disjoined. endless video replays of the most mundane events might not effect the game but it certainly effects the viewing. I don't know how many times I've had to watch some footballer pulling a funny face, then the cameras switch back to the action, a shot going wide or whatever and just thinking 'i wonder what happened there?' I think we should be stripping football back to make it as raw and real as possible rather than making it more and more superficial. just my thoughts though

Plz sign de Jong we havnt had any one like him since the great man himself paint a ball on a wall and he would smash it

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I stated earlier he would slot right in, if we can't sign someone else like carvalho or pogba.

Agree0 Disagree0

In my humble opinion he is a walking red card.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree0 Disagree0

De Jong is 5 years past it

A reason City let him go

If you haven't noticed, Milan are a mid level club on recent form and success

We can and should do much better

If Strootman or VdV were healthy, De Jong would not be playing

Agree0 Disagree0

Someone else who thinks you are past it at 29, well I should have been in a coffin years ago and i'm only 30 (I wish) . I think he's a good player, sorry but my opinion. he's s team player and often takes one for the team. He gives it out and takes it and I repeat man city and the supporters didn't want him to go.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Jun 2014 17:44:47
Ed, what are the chances Cazorla and Vermaelen will leave? a lot of stuff saying Vermaelen is a dead cert to leave and Cazorla is weighing up his options.

Firstly, Surely Wenger will not sell Vermaelen to a rival, such as Man Utd. Will he go abroad to say Napoli?

Secondly, If Cazorla does leave, will we replace him with an out and out winger? Such as Griezman, Cuadrado etc. I heard Lavezzi this morning, that would be amazing.

Would be really greatful if you could shed some light her.

Ps please post on banter

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - wenger will not sell to a rival?...hello..robin van persie ring any bells!..they both look likely to leave for me mate, we will not know his replacement till after the WC i suspect detroit..

I don't want Lavezzi, unless it's very cheap as he's 29. Would much prefer Griezman.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't usually have soft spots, but I have a little one for arteta. Think he's one of the few intelligent footballers - a good role model and a good person to have in the squad. And beyond that, I'd like to see him working at the club in some capacity. Just seems grounded. Sometimes young players need someone to explain to them that it's not all about sunseekers and rolex's. Wish he'd have a chat with jack wilshere actually. Get him off the fags and booze.

Arteta takes a lot of stick from Arsenal supporters, myself included, a bit unfair to be honest.

At Everton he was a very attack minded midfielder, very creative.

At Arsenal, he plays a much deeper, holding role, hence why he is not the best tackler on the planet.

For me, he has sacrificed his natural game to play a more disciplined role.

He has taken one for the team and deserves respect for that.

On the sin bin debate. Introduce a middle card that means you miss the next match but get to finish the game your in as a half way measure between yellow and Red?
Just an idea

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The yellow card = sin bin, is the best idea.

Don't add yellow cards from game to game up anymore.

Red still = sent off.

Agree0 Disagree0

Always thought that the yellow card should have an imopact on the team sinned against. So instead should result in say 10 mins off. 2nd yellow still a red and off. As is a straight red. Totting up stays as is.

Also the corner kick ten yards rule should apply to both defender and attackers. That way we don't get that silly 1 inch pass and everyone comes piling in.

Another thing that bugs me and many others is when a player gets injured he gets treated then goes off the pitch and called back on again. it is a complete waste of time. If the player gets up that's it in my book.Thats how it use to be end of story. Its a complete nonsense the way it is now.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Jun 2014 22:46:03
The problem with sinbinning is, it can reward players for simulation. Dive and you might earn your team a one man advantage for 10 mins. I don't get why there isn't retrospective bans. For example, Fred should've missed 2 games for that simulation against Croatia. De Jong should've got even longer for his karate kick. If players know that they can't get away with it, even if the ref misses it, it should reduce the indiscretions.

Wembley holds 90,000.

Arsenal and Man City will receive 26,000 tickets each for Community Shield.

Don't need a calculator to work out that it doesn't quite add up.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

26000 each, the rest go to corporate people.

Fixture list for 2014/15 doesn't look too bad, all the matches against opposition likely to be vying for top 4 nicely spread out.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agreed, could be worse. But a potentially tricky run in. Though it might be just as important to avoid playing the top teams too close together.

If Cazorla leaves I could see us making a move for Kagawa at United, never managed to establish himself there but his performances and assist records in the Bundesliga don't lie.

As a United fan I can tell you I'd be very upset if this happened. Kagawa is a very good player who hasn't had a good chance to excel for us. You'd be lucky to have him.

On the sin bin thing, I can't imagine anything more aggravating for a footballer than having to sit on the bench for 10 mins in a game which he is envolved in.

But if he's in sin bin that means he has done something wrong, so would miss the game anyway if the ref is over zealous and gives him an undeserved red.

Fair point dags. I'll take that one

I think your missing the point about the '97/'98 players I mentioned. You may call them back ups but get the DVD out and look at their contribution. It was the decent squad we had that enabled us to use those players due to the injuries and suspensions that we had.

If we only sign a few players as your saying, replacements for those leaving then even if they are better quality the squad is no better off because of the lack of depth.

If you read my other posts I said that we should get no more than three regular starters, and a back up keeper. I didn't say don't get some squad players in. My point is loads of people here are listing 5, 6, 7 players who they want to come in and play straight away. It's ridiculous. People are saying sell podolski and buy a replacement etc. It's just so naive. And when it comes to tv5 and cazorla, I said everything should be done to stop them leaving, simply because if you buy replacements, especially in the case of cazorla, they'll be of a lower quality and then require settling in time as well. When you start allowing first team players to leave who are still making a good contribution, a lot of the time you end up going backwards. I think arsenal should try their best to make them happy and stay, though with tv5 I doubt that is probably an option
