Flamini, arteta, coquelin and diaby need to make way for a more combative less injury prone midfielder

18 Oct 2014 22:57:11
We all know that, well all but one of us

Agree0 Disagree0

Arsene wenger knows that, he's said as such. This isn't football manager or fifa though it's not as easy as that. Players just aren't avaliable or are valued out of a move.

I had a thought today. We all get so caught up on buying new players but once we get quality they're not even utilized in the way that maximizes their talent. Ozil being the main example. Also that we buy the wrong type of player compared to what we need. The point I'm trying to make is that it's going to be hard to really get excited over any new players knowing wenger will still be using the same boring let's score a perfect ticky taka goal strategy.

We really need to start using the wings a big more and play what I like to call PULSE Football . In that we play our passing game but then if a team is just sitting back on us we go wide and whip the ball in with pace.yes we may lose possession but at least we get the ball into dangerous spaces and not become predictable.
The way we play it's as if we are afraid to lose possession even if it means we spend 5 mins on an attack build up. it equates to high possession with a low number of threatening shots.

Any other tactic suggesions you fellow gooners have?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

18 Oct 2014 23:22:48
Back in the days of the 'invincibles', we use to play fast, flowing, one touch football, using the wings to utilise the pace and stretch the opposition defences.

Now?
Slow and pedestrianised, too many touches, not enough pace, allowing the opposition to reorganise at the back.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm with you dags, as far as I can remember the last season we had that was when we were still playing a four four two the hear Eduardo broke his leg. We had fabs flam hleb Eduardo adebayor that year and the one touch football was still there. I have no idea why wenger messed with such a successful team set up

Just got back from the game today.
Nothing else to report .!

Not a fan of posting straight after a game, but here goes.

Firstly, the Wenger situation.

As Gunner62 has said many times, we will not sack Wenger.
I'm not saying I don't want it to happen, just that it won't.

Why?
Because, and its wrong, Wenger rules the roost, from bottom to top.
We should be called Arsene Football Club.

Arsenal, by tradition, unless brown envelopes are involved, do not sack managers.
Is tradition a good thing?
Or is our bond with tradition holding us back?

I think we should start moving with the times and leave our 'Draconian' traditions behind, because they are holding us back.

Barca sack managers, Real Madrid sack managers, Manchester United sack managers, all clubs do.
Maybe its time we followed suit.

If not, let's show Wenger the same loyalty he has shown us, and move him upstairs.

Today's game.
Pathetic, abject, void of team spirit, lacking creativity and no leadership.

One win in 7.
10 goals and 11 points behind Chelsea after 8 games.

Its not good enough because we are not good enough because our manager is not good enough.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Well dags, you are right. I wrote a little post a few weeks ago that everyone passed by, about this being the season we fall, because the makeup of the team is wrong, it lacks in too many areas to be confident about. I also don't enjoy watching the class of 2014/15. It doesn't rock my boat, in fact, we are boring.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Oct 2014 02:12:35
No kidding, most of us have been saying the same thing for the last 5-8 years but nothing really happened. It is going beyond frustrating.

depressed.

Ed, can you start an Arsenal cribbing page too :(

Agree0 Disagree0

Steve r. we are boring, I would excuse it if we won convincingly like Chelsea do, but we don't, we pass the ball around and do nothing with it. Just aimless passing.

Well said Dags. I agree.

We have no defence but we should at least be attacking well with our squad except that isn't happening either. We have an injury record which is indicating to me that there is poor player management. Yet nothing changes.

This club is currently full of stagnant energy. I hope the board or Arsene realise this, but I doubt it.

Agree0 Disagree0

Rioch was sacked because he was useless and football was poor. But that was because we had people with excellent football knowledge running the club.

Agree0 Disagree0

Iv always backed steve.r and his thoughts as I think the same. Iv been ranting wenger out for a while now

Dags this is a wenger out post if ever iv seen one. I just want to finally see wenger out on your post and i'm happy and I can leave into the night. My work here will be done lol

The fear of the unknown, the uncertainty of the future is actually what enslaves man and keep him in pepertual bondage, so he fears to venture, he prefer the status quo, he stays in his comfort zone, and that way he remains relevant to the un enlighten, I refuse to be part of those that don't want a change, the only thing that is constant is change, the time has come for a change in AFC, everything has a shelve life, everything has an expiring date, no matter how good and potent a drug is, it become poisonous and deadly when it expires, why must we now insist on taking an expired medication.
Wenger's time has expired, his potency is gone, the more he stays the more ineffective his prescription will be. why on earth can't we see that.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Sacking Arsene ain't going to happen and neither should it.
This contract was a mistake for everyone and time will unfortunately show that, all the fans the club and Arsene himself will look back in 2 years and 30 PL games time and say "shame the love affair didn't end with the FA cup in 2014".
All we can do is bite the bullet and enjoy what ever good days there are to be had

Lets not also lose sight of how Chambers has picked up a suspension so early, madness really, showing his inexperience, someone needs to pull him to one side. and have a chat

Believable0 Unbelievable0

To be fair, at least 2 of the 5 yellows were pathetic ref decisions.

But, that's footy.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Oct 2014 21:32:42
He makes the tackles no one else in the team will make. The ones that when they're not made we concede.

The professional fouls we should be making, such as Chelsea are cunning enough to do.

I've no problems with it whatsoever

Agree0 Disagree0

That's no good when you have no cover .

My money is on him serving at least another ban, maybe two, he needs to calm down a bit

Agree0 Disagree0

Chambers is committed a little like keown, yes a little rash now and then and yes he will pick up yellows. I think there is a great player in there, waiting to mature and i'm surevhe will and reduce the amount of yellows but don't change his style. The problem there is no cover is not his.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Oct 2014 16:05:50
Last year he hadn't a single yellow. Why? Because Schneider and Wanyama were doing the job we need someone to do.

Making the flow halting tackles in midfield that never get cards so far out (unless a reckless or clumsy challenge)

Players run at us get behind the lines and Chambers takes it upon himself to make the tackle before they make it into our box.

Hazard 2 weeks ago prime example. He should have been halted 40yrds out.

Something has to be done with how we defend from the front.

I think wenger stayed because he still has dags support. The day dags turns wenger out I think he will resign. Hurry up dags

In other news villa continued to show us what utter crap they really are,

And Sunderland will of course be fired up, "looking to respond" next week against us.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Villa are poor. And people were thinking we would win the league after we beat them. Strange. In other news can we sign wanyama already

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Oct 2014 17:49:16
Gutted! I will not blame the players as Wenger IS the one who has to go! Us fans are the ones who can get him out, I don't want him choosing the next manager it would be another step down. Us fans need to see the challenge for all trophies, not just happy for forth place. We will not sign any players in the January transfer window, just more excuses from him and the board.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I agree, as much has Wenger has done in the past we can't dwell on the past and sentiment. We have gone stale and static under Wenger it has been proven consistenly that tactically Wenger is pretty clueless and he has little idea in getting the correct shape and balance to the squad.

How long have been waiting for a new midfielder box to box powerhouse, defensive midfielder and commanding CB. Why have we got like 6 central attacking midfielders and 2 so called defensive midfielders in Arteta and Flamini that are quite simply not up to it.

Just look at our recent record against the other top 4 sides over the last few years absolutely shocking.

His main weakness as is the French way almost is stubbornness, he refuses to change his ways despite the obvious evidence over a number of years that he is getting things wrong. Part of the problem aswell is that he is too close and loyal to his players. He sees them as his own children almost and has blind unmovable faith in players that have not performed or players like Diaby that are constantly injuired.

He is just not ruthless enough. Look how long it took us to get rid of Bendtner for example.

Tactically awful against every big team we lose on a tactical basis because we don't change our game plan, fail to indentify weaknesses in the opposition and fail to compensate for our weaknesses. Why are we still using Zonal Marking we look just too weak defending any set piece. Whenever the opposition have a corner or close free kick I always feel that they may score rather than what you should be feeling as a top side that the ball will be cleared.

For me we will not progress as a side until Wenger steps aside.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Oct 2014 17:35:12
Not so long ago of wed have been 2-1 down with 40mins to go bbc final score wouldve been back and forth to the emirates about a dozen times. Today though it was about 4 at most. No ones interested that hull are beating us at home. Its not that big a deal anymore.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

18 Oct 2014 17:27:18
At least Chambers is back, Ramsey had a run out, Walcott and Gnarby are very close .

How long is Kos out for?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

18 Oct 2014 18:10:19
I would guess kos is out for a while as both his achilles are stretched and vulnerable to rupturing. One of those goes its goodnight vienna.

As for Rambo, he wad supposed to be back next week.

Hes going to be rushed back from a hammy and forced to play every minute. That could go horribly, horribly wrong

Agree0 Disagree0

I would play gnarby right wing. Push alexis behind welbeck for now. Bench cazorla. I liked the look of campbell when he came on.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Oct 2014 17:05:27
Wenger must take responsibility for his lack of defensive cover and also his lack of tactic adjustments. Teams pack the box and we still try to go through the middle over and over and over. For me this summer was his last chance to buy what he really needed.

How can anyone out there believe we will win another major trophy with him as the boss?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We won't, and I don't call the F A Cup a 'major' trophy either

Agree0 Disagree0

It is about times fans call for change at the games rather than just sit and take it every year

Agree0 Disagree0

Spot on, we are too one dimensional and can't come up with a plan B, it's been said my so many people yet nothing changes.

Wenger has said that we are one player short, that he will try to rectify it in January, but 2 months is more than enough. All this money spent in the summer, our squad is hardly any bigger.

Sagna - Debuchy
Fabianski - Ospina
Sanchez - Walcott perhaps
Chambers - Vermarlean
Welbeck - only proper addition IMO and now he's on his own since OG is out.

Shocking naive when it comes to defenders. I remember Wenger saying that the best players used to come from France, then Spain and now Germany, we need a german coach, (ideally Lowe) who can play te german style with our german players. And need to get a proper DMF!!

I'm in shock that Wenger hasn't added more defenders. And I'll be shocked if we finish 4th at his rate.

Wenger out.

#LoweIn

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally agree, the first goal proves it pathetic by flamini he should know u deal with the ball there but monreal cb and bellerin in are defence, wenger take responsibility no more rubbishty response like its our injuries its the big teams financial clout when we play them its his tactics his squad and his responsibility, best thing is he goes this summer and we rebuild the defence next summer with a new manager

Agree0 Disagree0

We'll finish 3rd no worse and certainly no better this season.
Top trophies are as far away as ever they were and next season we will really be in danger of finishing outside the top four maybe top 5 even.
We are treading water neither improving or slipping but others are and will continue to improve around us which is where Arsene's going to truly come undone. Shame its going to end so badly for him this was a contract to far

Agree0 Disagree0

Wenger has to take full responsibility for leaving us so short of defensive numbers. He knew Vermealen and Sagna were leaving long ago. Yes he brought in Dubuchy and Chambers but has lost a lot of experience with losing those two. Then to compound matters he decides to let Jenkinson to go out on loan, just daft. I would certainly much rather Jenkinson at CB than Monreal.

I knew this would come back to bite us and it has with us down to bare bones at the back already with having to play Monreal at CB, He is not exactly convincing at LB let alone CB.

With have such unbalanced squad with too many attack minded midfielders too many forwards and not enough defensive minded midfielders and defenders.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think we will finish 4th. Manu 3rd

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Oct 2014 17:00:56
Well well we are paying for wengers poor transfer window again, we needed defenders didn't buy enough we needed dm didn't by one, let's hope we can still hold it until jan

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yet fans still think we had a good window. Madness.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with you WW, but oddly magoo didn't see what we were all seeing. again why did Jenks go to 'ammers

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Oct 2014 16:45:50
Well and truly taken the heat off Manchester United as the joke of the Premier League. A Manager in any business would be fired for poor decision and inadequate resourcing. Regardless of what he had done in the past. We are going backwards so something needs to change.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Totally agree

And all those on here taking the mickey out of Man U a few weeks ago must feel foolish.

We are NO better than Man U defensively and at the other end I would say they have the edge over us also

Agree0 Disagree0

When utd went out both the league cup at Milton Keynes I didn't gloat one bit as I didn't see how we could, Anfield Etihad and boot sale mailings were way to fresh in the memory for us to laugh at anyone

I didn't either 62, but quite a few on here did.

18 Oct 2014 16:11:59
Now 2-1 down, I am afraid Wengers poor decision making in the transfer window is coming back to haunt him, we all saw on here the lack of defensive cover and here we are 7 games in and struggling defensively.

We need to get 3 points from this, we have on paper got some tough fixtures out of the way, this should be a home banker .

35 minutes to go, let's hope we can wake up a bit

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I want him gone. The board are still fooling some fans too. Any body who thinks we will be closer to the title are deluded. We will be miles off it. Could well be 20 points off the winners come may time

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Oct 2014 17:38:31
I think a thirty point spread between us and first is more like it. Worth a bet the more I think about it.

Ok in the name of fun, which footballer past or present do you most look like?
Also in your prime which players style would reminds you of your own?
No Dags you don't and never did look anything like Beckham and neither were you a Ranaldo/Messi/Henry rolled into one type player :-)
Be honest peole even if the answers are
Ian Dowie lookalike and Sanogo type player.
