Hi Ed02,

You said in a recent post that Vinai Venkatesham shouldn't and wouldn't be considered for replacing IG.

Given the announcement today, would you consider this a bad play on behalf of the board?

I'm really interested in your thoughts on this appointment alongside Raul Sanhelli.

Thanks in advance.

{Ed002's Note - No, this has been coming for a while and the board would know that. VV has been at the club for a while and has been moving up the ladder - but he has reached his natural peak now. RS was the indicator that time had come for the manager and there needed to be a change. The only issue that could really be argued is that the manager is not the guy they wanted - he was further down the list but that is the choice they made.}

Micheal Carrick and James Milner were both good enough to play at top level premier league clubs almost entirely through out thier careers but never good enough for regular inclusion in England squads let alone teams.
It seems the no fuss ever dependable players always get overlooked by everyone but the managers with who they compete at the highest level under year after year.

Milner 61 England caps
Carrick 34 England caps

I can agree that Carrick could possibly have made more appearances. However, you would have to look into which players were selected ahead him, how many times he missed out due to injury, etc. He also had the likes of Gerrard and Lampard as rivals for a central midfield spot in the national team, although the pair didn't compliment each other it would have taken a brave manager to select Carrick ahead of them.

In respect of Milner I believe 61 caps is decent haul for a hardworking player. Again you would have to look into who was selected ahead of him and how many times he missed out die to injury. He is 32 years of age, which amazed me, as he seems to have been around forever. I can't recall ever thinking, why he wasn't playing for England when not selected.

Personally I always thought how come he's good enough to be City's only English players and not England and also why Carrick was Fergies trusted ever present with who he won titles galore and competed in champions league finals but couldn't win a regular spot in the squad yet alone starting 11 for England.
Two very under rated very high achieving players in my opinion.

Just seen something i found amusing, on the day gazidis joined us we were first in the prem, on the day he leaves us, we are seventh. Last season we finished 6th, great job ivan.

{Ed002's Note - That is hardly reasonable.}

Ed02, on the day he joined us, his words were something like, "i am here to make this club great" we were top of the league. I thought it was funny how much progress we didn't make while he was at arsenal. We are now not classed as a top four club and he has gone, saying he has been proud of the job he has done. I just found it funny.

{Ed002's Note - You need to think about what his responsibilities were - they did not extend to the footballing side of things Stev.}

No i appreciate that Ed, but indirectly he is or was in charge of the running of the club.

{Ed002's Note - The club - not the football team.}

Just because the engine hasn't ran well for a long time that doesn't mean every component is or has been faulty Steve mate.
I'd say the kit man and tea lady are about as accountable for the teams performances as Gazidis, manager coaching staff and players are where that responsibility lays mate.

The point is did he come in and make good his promise. The other point is that i just found it amusing after what he has said, when he came in, we were top of the league when he left, we were most definitely not. Our standing in europe has dropped as well and i suggest we are not as big a club now as when he joined, others have over took us. He was the overseer of it all. I don't hold him personally accountable by the way. I just find it funny.

On a more serious note, it is the CEOs responsibility to run the club and make sure all its targets are achieved. He is the top man. He is the one accountable for everything arsenal.

{Ed002's Note - I think that is generally what the business management text books would say, but it is terribly naive to look to blame him for a full back slipping and an equaliser going in late in the game.}

Who takes over a new job saying " ok we are number 1 now but it's a totally false position we can't possibly maintain because the players are far to cosy and the manager currently untouchable "
What was he supposed to do Steve mate?
He did his job by putting positive spin on anything and everything he possibly could ( even if he never believed it himself)
PR and total honesty are seldom good friends simply because on most things they are completely incompatible.

I agree with Steve. He hasn't done anything memorable for Arsenal. David Dein did a better job 10 times over. Good riddance to the guy.

Good riddance.
We are a top 10 club globally and we can replace him with pretty much any executive in the market.

So Wilshere out for 6 weeks after an ankle op and Perez not starting for West Ham. Looks like Emery is making good decisions. Interesting to see if and how he juggles the team for the upcoming EL and League Cup matches.
On Thursday it is time to start Leno and Lichtsteiner, as well as other squad players; Holding, Mavrapanos, Elneny, Iwobi and Welbeck, Guendouzi and Mkhitaryan could also start having not played 90 mins v Newcastle. Youngster Emile Smith-Rowe could also feature.
