Back to offside. The original rule was brought in to stop goal hangers and over the yearscit has been changed somuch by people who don't understand football and now it is so confusing its uunworkable. If a player is in an offside position when the ball is played then that said player or players should not be able to touch the ball till the move breaks down. If a player is fractionally offside or makes a run from behind and is a fraction of a second offside, how can he be classed as a goal hanger. We can't work to fractions of a second and it not what the rule was brought in for. But i'm sure they will change it again and again untill it so complicated, we will have electronic flashing beacons on the players head when he is electronically offside because humans can't colate it

As Dr Evil would say,

"We should fit laser beams to their heads".

We should just go back to the old fashioned rule.

None of this phase 1 or phase 2 offside rule.

If,when ball is played, you are beyond the defender, you are offside, simple.

Thank you for clearing that one up Steve :)

If a player is in an 'offside' position, he is interfering with play, as the opposing players will adjust their positions accordingly. Having run a line, it is hard enough to judge where a player is when the ball is kicked, never mind the minefield of nonsense that has clouded a rather simple rule.

Spot on Robbie

Agree2 Disagree0

If you are on the pitch you are interfering with play. That is a fact. Offside is offside,Unless you are injured in a heap on the floor near the corner flag.

have slashed the odds on Benzema to Arsenal following a string of bets. Doesn't this usually happen before a player suddenly joins a different team? Such as Pedro suddenly arriving at Stamford bridge for a medical when everyone thought he was flying to Manchester? I personally think Benzema would be a great signing for us but for some reason I'm quite intrigued by the thought of Cavani in an Arsenal shirt.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

19 Aug 2015 19:25:05
Neither would do us any harm that's for sure, we'll challenge without them but it would be a stronger challenge with one of them on side.
But let's see what happens as we've been much further down the road with others who never arrived.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Aug 2015 21:19:30
I'm convinced we'll get Benzema

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Aug 2015 22:44:08
I can't see us getting a striker now.

I think AW is happy with Olly, and knowing he has Theo and Welbz as back up.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Aug 2015 22:54:59
To be honest Dags I've no idea whether we will or won't sign a striker or anyone else come to that, Arsene will only sign quality at this stage and that's much higher in demand than supply right now.
He will sign players he wants IF he can get them on his terms but our chances of getting gazumped are extremely high on both wages and fee's.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Aug 2015 23:05:08
Welbz going out on loan dags. Believe your boy. Benzema is on

Agree1 Disagree1

19 Aug 2015 23:24:35
G62,

Problem is, what available players will improve us?

Is Benzema available? Nope.
Cavani? Maybe.
Goetze? Maybe, but do we need him?

Carvalho? Injured.
Wanyama? Southampton won't sell.
Sissoko? Not good enough.

Oohh, Charlie Austin.
Sorted.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Aug 2015 23:41:24
Dags would chas get 15 goals for us?
Would Benzema 100% get any more than that?
Olly is the answer of that I'm sure, but I've forgotten the question :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Aug 2015 23:50:28
It won't surprise me Derby.

Loan him to QPR, with Charlie going the other way.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Aug 2015 00:28:53
G62,

Charlie averages 18 goals per season in a poor relegated team.

He wouldn't be 1st choice but would do a good job coming off bench or replacing Olly if injured/tired/off form.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Aug 2015 09:58:12
To be fair Dags that's an Average taken over 1 season in the premier league season, with his best return being 18 and his worst also being 18 giving an average of 18 :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Aug 2015 17:59:33
Usually steve and I don't agree on things, but his post below on Le Coq was spot on, he did not have a bad game, he had a worse game at wes ham than against palace

pedro to chelsea have they finally sorted there right side problem out? could be a key signing for them

Believable0 Unbelievable3

19 Aug 2015 15:12:18
Could also cause even more defensive issues if Ivanovic continues as first choice right back. Pedro will offer far less help than Willian in covering for Ivanovic's lack of pace and discipline.....
But maybe just wishful thinking as an Arsenal fan

Agree1 Disagree0

19 Aug 2015 17:32:19
Im not sure why they need him really, personally i don't think it makes them any stronger, i'm also yet to be convinced he will hack it in the prem. Is he better than mata and will iam, not sure. Time will tell if they get him.

Agree1 Disagree0

19 Aug 2015 18:17:19
I'd love to enjoy utd letting Pedro escape their ugly grasp but any gloating might be very short lived as they sign Benzema and send this page into meltdown instead.
But what ever happens its hard not to be happy for the Pedro's

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Aug 2015 18:20:23
Is he better on the right hand side. Yes. Mata is a num10. William at shaktar dominated the left side but they have hazard that side.

We don't need Pedro but for that he could do very well.

19 Aug 2015 13:42:57
Great to see Mick McCarthy speaking such high praise of Ainsley Maitland-Niles, saying he's certain he'll be an Arsenal first steamer in the future.

This is why I love this club so much. We hold youth development and the value of home grown talent in such high regard that will never lose our way amongst all these moneybags clubs who just throw money and the next big thing to win trophies.

As much as I want to see us spend to be able to compete at the highest level (which in fairness we have been doing) what we do as a club is what English football is all about, it's a shame so many of the other top clubs can't see that.

Looking forward to watching this lad in the next few years.

Has anyone send what the united fans have said since it looks like they aren't getting Pedro.. Absolutely comical.. If Ronaldo or Bale isn't signed then Woodward should be sacked, that's just some of the crazy statement's that are flying about.. Hilarious I must say:-);-)

19 Aug 2015 16:40:22
Oh please dags2 get over yourself lol. First Clyne then Firmino what? U mean the guy that no one wanted at Liverpool or the guy that even the hoffenhiem chairman couldn't believe what u paid for?

While our '2nd choice' looked the business last night.

I can't really speak for firmino as unlike most Liverpool fans I didn't watch every hoffenhiem game last season to judge yet lol

19 Aug 2015 17:05:24
To be fair darmian has made United look like they didn't miss out on much with Clyne and Depay who I'm a fan of looks like he's settling in but if city get otamendi and with Chelsea getting pedro , I wouldn't be a very happy chap as a United fan but as a gooner I'm loving it

19 Aug 2015 19:08:04
Come on CTR, let's not get too carried away with Depay, granted he scored two and made one but the quality of the opposition was absolutely shocking.

I saw him compared to Ronaldo, Best, Robson etc on social media last night..

See if he cuts the mustard in the PL first

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Aug 2015 19:06:52
Lol bless them there's only one club that Liverpool fans think that have missed out on players more than is and that is Liverpool.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Aug 2015 19:33:12
Peter, how am I getting carried away? He looked the business last night. I didn't say anything else your implying!

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Aug 2015 21:53:30
Banging two in last night is better than not scoring. You play what's put in front of you and depay looked good. But Unlike some I'm not interested in voyeurism. We will deal with the scousers on Monday night. Find out a little more about both clubs aspirations

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Aug 2015 22:48:27
Tbh I thought darmian looked below required quality in the spurs and villa games.

And ctr, you're the most sensitive little thing I've ever witnessed.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

19 Aug 2015 12:26:24
No idea mate, what do you think?

If it was me, I'd say he's a good forward, but is he at our level just yet?
No.
He's still young and he's going to get better, but this team doesn't need 'will be' players, it needs ready to rock lads right now.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Aug 2015 12:41:48
I think he would be great

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Aug 2015 17:46:31
I think he's be great too, pacier and stronger than Giroud. Needs to work on his finishing. He'll be a great signing for us.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Aug 2015 18:21:36
You would have to pay 40 or 50 mill for everton to sell and for me that is waaaaaaaaaay too much, get a proven goalscorer with pedigree for that.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Aug 2015 08:49:31
Well well well le coq is getting some stick for having ONE bad game since he's been back, for me he is the reason we had a good end to the season parhetic if u ask me!! Let's get bhind OUR team and support all the team not just the super stars

Believable5 Unbelievable0

19 Aug 2015 09:38:31
Post of the season so far that CB, if people are judged purely on consistancy and level of their performances only Kos and Sanchez rival Le Coq in 2015.
Alas he didn't cost a fortune and doesn't use social media to grab the headlines so will always struggle for recognition.

Agree3 Disagree0

19 Aug 2015 09:51:45
AW should be the one getting stick for not having an alternative.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i think he believes he has one in arteta mate..

19 Aug 2015 10:00:22
Lol he actually dint have a bad game, put in some good tackles, if anything he was worse against wes ham, trying to ridicoulous passes

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Aug 2015 10:04:02
Past his sell by date ED. You probably have a soft spot for him being an ex toffee.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i dont you know..dirty little traitor for me..but good player, but if arsene thinks he is good enough then who am i to argue, you see you and i are not the best manager in england..arsene happens to be..

19 Aug 2015 11:45:13
Well said Ed.

I don't even think Coquelin had a bad game, I think he was just a bit rash in his tackles but other parts of his game were fine. For example, the counter attack from a Crystal Palace corner which lead to a shot that got cleared off the line - a chance that Sanchez should have put away. Coquelins pass to Cazorla (I think) in that build up was sublime and perfectly weighted.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Aug 2015 13:58:32
First of all coq did not have a bad game, do people not understand the role he is playing. Yes he could have been sent off, but certain players ie ramirez, matic, mikel, simonne, keoman, keane, vierra etc etc also spend/spent a career nearly and getting sent off. Its his job to break up play and its his job to foul and generally be a bad boy. Only idiots would single him out for fouling, he puts in more tackles than for example ozil ( not good example I know ) so he is going to get booked and suspended. Please understand why he is in the team and appreciate his job. Now the problem is as we have been trying to tell people, when he is not there. Now that's someone elses problem.

Agree1 Disagree0

19 Aug 2015 13:27:58
Ed, I very much doubt I am the best manager in my living room, let alone england!!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - you and ma both epping..

19 Aug 2015 17:43:23
I'm not even the best manager in my own bed, Dags and both his brothers are all better than me :-(

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Aug 2015 22:52:00
Traitor for leaving Everton? That's ridiculous. Why would any player not want to better themselves and their career if the opportunity arises. And in all seriousness, I think I'd prefer arteta to mikel or kurt zouma as a back up dm

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Aug 2015 08:07:55
I'd like to say congratulations to man city on there title win :(

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - a bit premature there derby...which im sure is not the first time thats been said to you mate.. :)

19 Aug 2015 08:48:54
Shots fired by eds man down haha

Otenemdi and De bruyne in eds. Big signings right there and no African nations this year. All set up for them

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - early days yet derby, injuries will play a part and if ya ya or aguero are out for a while then maybe they will not be so potent..

19 Aug 2015 09:34:33
Was for a moment worried about the rest of the season and thought why should we bother this year! Then realised it was posted by our resident Team Morale and Transfer Guru and realised he could be wrong , what if he is wrong and I could believe we had at least a chance to challenge . What if we should at least try to win the league not give up after two fecking games.

Honestly Derby mate

Agree1 Disagree0

19 Aug 2015 09:46:23
Another disappointing champions league campaign under a manager who almost certainly won't be there next season and things might not look quite so clear cut.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Aug 2015 10:01:51
We may as well cancel our subscriptions and renew them next year as per Derby 2 games and u win the league, wow. Till the season started city have bought poorly won't challenge, win 2 games they are title contenders,i am sorry i mean they already won it.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Aug 2015 10:04:17
im a realist in life. i'm not saying don't bother but il be amazed if city don't win the league,

please copy and paste this for future reference guys.

there champs league form never really effects there title run.

i do think we will get benzema though guys.

What title is that then Derby? The biggest sugar daddy club in the world title? They could throw away £100 billion on players and it still wouldn't guarantee the league title.

19 Aug 2015 14:54:51
We are going to thump City!

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Aug 2015 22:38:30
Am I the only one who thinks le coq is a disaster waiting to happen? I just think he try's to hard he constantly picks up silly cards , I think we will regret not signing a stop gap until we ( try) and sign carvalho , and then still just cusse we want a player it doesn't mean we will get him , I just don't see the logic in not getting someone or at least show we are willing to try a youngster at some time in that position , no one expected bellerien would be our first choice starter , until he got a run of 5-6 games , but we are not looking at buying a d/m nor do I see a younger pretender on the bench , just my opinion ( but I am great at fantasy football so I must know what I'm talking about :/ haha)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

19 Aug 2015 01:30:46
Le coq had a bad game against palace but he's otherwise sound. But we do need some cover/competition for him for sure. There's beilik but not heard much thus far as regards to his progress .

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Aug 2015 02:26:57
He has to play on the edge that's his job, how many times Viera got too excited getting the early red and left me a mess for the better part of an hour, I can't count.

That said does seem Coq does better when he holds off a bit and stays in his limits.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Aug 2015 03:19:38
I thought a bit too much was made of Coquelin's fouls in the Palace match. However, it is clear that we need a quality defensive midfield player as an alternative or to play with Coquelin. Arteta and Flamini are not the answer. Flamini appears to be on out of Wenger's plans andthe same should have gone for Arteta.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Aug 2015 04:18:49
I don't think Wenger should go the the hottest young DM around right now. He should go for a player who has just hit 30 or 31 Y/O. A player who has the experience to teach Coq everything he knows and is also capable of playing another year or two (both rotational and cover) before he's slowly faded out leaving us with a much improved Coq.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Aug 2015 05:44:09
NEG that is basically what Arteta has been doing. Probably one more year of that.

Agree0 Disagree1

19 Aug 2015 06:38:40
Problem is, arteta is hay the greatest tackler in the world. He also picks up lots of yellow cards for silly fouls. Perhaps every time either of hem pick up a yellow for tugging back a player unessecarily wenger should fine some of their wages.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - or ruffle up his perfect hair.. :)

19 Aug 2015 07:12:16
Iv said all along we will see why this year he has never played a full season for us. He came back was a hero last year but I can't see him keeping it up. He will end up a squad player again.

He should of been sent of 100percent very lucky boy. Him and cazorla and the shortest pairing around :( get a big boy in

Agree0 Disagree1

18 Aug 2015 21:48:53
Hi Eds, Can we now safely end all Arsenal links to Benzema. It looks like he has been included in lineup to face Gala. Surely they won't risk an injury this close to a transfer?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - That is not how it works.}

18 Aug 2015 18:05:28
Hi ed,you said arsenal will likely sign only a striker this window, about our first choice DMF,is it william carvalho and will we sign him on January since he will recover on December, thanks

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - The priority is a forward. And I have spent the summer explaining about Carvalho.}
