I agree with resting our players and allowing them to get ready for EPL. People were worried he may risk Kos then moaned he did not play him. It's a long hard season and we will play many games - even that fitness coach who hates Wenger said it was the right thing to do.
My question is why did we risk Rambo in the second half if he was injured at halftime and carp in first half. Santi should have came on, pushed Theo up front, drop Iwobi in the hole with Sanchez sulking on the left wing.
The other weird decision was bringing Granit on rather than a striker when chasing the game. If he midfield needed sorting out then why leave a hot head on the pitch on one card to be paired with another hot head.
I am a Wenge fan but that was puzzling.

So, one thing we do very well at is being able to compete within the first half of the season and this has been the story for the past 5 seasons or so. Now we could have won the league a couple of times if Wenger played smart by bringing someone who would give the players some spark during the January transfer windows. Someone who would boost the players morale and a signing that breeds confidence in the players. But this, Wenger will never do. It's a shame we lose key players every season and the board haven't learned a thing yet. It's a shame.

Not 100% right Willy mate, we sometimes start well or finish well we never do both which is why we haven't made 80 points for years.

Apologies SY4 not sure why I sent that post or even if it was meant for this string. Think it must have been me on the pop. 🙄.

Sorry again mate.

Just sign Hernandez and get it done - EPL experience

Then a CB and right back

Then a bloody winger who can actually run at people - Draxler.

19 Aug 2016 23:10:29
This is the part where we go back in and meet Lyon's original asking price, only to find they now want £55m not £45m and Arsene declares the transfer window prices madness.

Seriously though, say what you want about the quality of the league he's playing in, the lad's a finisher, pure and simple and Arsenal lack that.
Put him Infront of Özil and I'd bet he'd bag 20 goals in his first season.
I'd back myself to get 10 with Özil, Cazorla and Co supplying me and I'm a overweight bloke in his twenties.

In a world where Benteke is acceptable priced st £32m, Bolasie at £30m and Andre Gomes at €50m, paying £40-45m for Lacazette is robbery.

I'd dare say that ship has sailed now and our only hope of signings are maybe, maybe, please god don't balls it up, Mustafi and after that, it's just a wait to see who Madrid cast out, like seagulls following a fishing trawler.

Red Dog,
And to think, Joey Barton would have walked on his hands and knee's to come to us.

Well well, calm down now, he said last week that zalatan age is aginst him and he might not be able to proform week in week out. What do you expect from him.
I don't think wenger will have a good farewell party, that is if ever bloody leave.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Aug 2016 23:29:10
What does me that much is that their prices keep on increasing with every transfer window yet Wenger and the board wouldn't pay. I bet Lacazette will cost 60-70 million come January.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Aug 2016 23:44:14
For me, the window is over. I've decided to think in this direction so I don't get too disgruntled by the club. If we sign someone before the close of the window, then it's a miracle.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Aug 2016 21:44:21

Its possible to pick up a masterpiece painting at a bootsale for £5 but you need to go through a lot of fakes to find one, while Mourinho went to Sotheby's and paid what it took in wages to get a grand master Arsene is still walking round bootsales offering 50p for the £5 longshots.

19 Aug 2016 22:58:51
Seriously - the Wenger knockers just read headlines

Here's what he said

"From what I saw of him last year at Paris Saint-Germain, it was his most complete season as an individual player and as a team player.

"He became a really great team player last season.

"On the mental aspect he will bring something to Man United as well.

"He is a winner, he has charisma and he will give them a strength as well as his individual quality. "

Where does he say he will struggle.

He said he will always be questioned due to his age

If you want to post anti Wenger stuff then just post "I hate Wenget" at least that's accurate.

Agree3 Disagree3

19 Aug 2016 22:59:34
He's too old, too expensive and won't cut it in the Premier League. United always overpay for aging strikers and it typically doesn't end well - look what happened when they signed Van Persie.

I wouldn't bet against them making the same "mistake" again and winning another title. Winning the league is clearly too expensive for us.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Aug 2016 23:20:47
Zlatan, whilst brilliant, is too short term for me.

He will do a decent job for Utd and help the development of Martial and Rashford.

Different set up at Arsenal.

see lacazette bagged 2 again tonight. If he is the target he's added to his price since the season started!

why oh why do we take an age to sort out a transfer!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - because you baulk at paying the going rate fitwick, god knows why? your one of the richest clubs in the world but want players on the cheap mate..

19 Aug 2016 23:13:32
Don't worry, Berahino is apparently a free agent next summer, so we'll swoop in on deadline day with a £30m double swoop for Evans and Berahino!

Why pay for lobster when you can get half as good crayfish for a quarter of the price?!

Sad but true Ed.

Ridiculous, a club of our stature and we revel in mediocrity.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i really do wish i was wrong dags, you still have a very strong team though and will dine at the top table im sure, but as far as winning the league i expect you will fall short again as all the other big boys are stronger, i think you will buy before the deadline but 1 token signing will not be enough i fear mate..

Agree1 Disagree0

19 Aug 2016 18:27:02
It's been said before but the definition of madness is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results, this is why the club have to make several changes not only on the transfer front (paying big money for a player who may not quite be worth 40 million but would be 10 times better than a player worth half that who requires time to develop) but also regarding tactics, since employing the 4231 formation we have not performed greatly. Leicester showed last year that 442 is still a very effective tactic even with the players we have at the moment we could do well using this, just think xhaka and carzola in holding midfield roles, chamberlain on the right, sanchez as an attacking left midfielder and ozil in the old Bergkamp role and (don't shoot me) Theo making the runs behind defence (as Henry or Wright did) .
With this in mind Man utd and Chelsea will be challenging for title as they are the only clubs to make big changes. Man city may have Guardiola but are still all style and no defence which won't work in the epl, Tottenham have not invested and are making similar mistakes to us a few years ago and Liverpool have invested a lot of money but perhaps in the wrong players (again) which inflates expectations of their performances.
I hope I'm wrong but fear I won't be.

Our best days under Wenger, used a 4-4-2 or 4-4-1-1 formation and I am a great fan of these formations, assuming they are fluid and not too rigid. He also used more tall, powerful, athletic players, I noticed last season, that a lot of teams had returned to using strong physical players in a 4-4-2 formation.

My favourite Arsenal team was the 1998 double winning team, which played in a 4-4-2 and had Vieira and Petit protecting the back four, not that it need protecting! We had the industrious Parlour on the right and the superb Overmars on the left.

The current team looks far more fragile and I have never liked the current system we use, nor too many small, technical players.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Aug 2016 23:06:08
RG
Agree - I don't think Ozil is able to play the DB10 role and I don't believe Santi can play in midfield in the Petit role. Granit and Elneny plus Rambo on right wing gives you Vierra, petit and Parlour
Sanchez is no Overmars either

Crazy - I just said our best two players can't equal DB10 or Overmars now we would want Theo to replace Henry

4 4 2 requires an overhaul - our team seems to fit 4 3 3 or 4 5 1.

I like 4 4 2.

20 Aug 2016 00:38:08
Oh and if you listen carefully to his comments it seems he isn't leaving the club anytime soon. Only the fans can throw him out which would be a shame as that will stain his good works for the club.

Hi Eds I read that Alexis Sanchez has asked Arsenal to look at a move to Juventus for him before the window closes. Also read that we have put in a serious bid for Julian Draxler. Is Draxler a possible replacement for Sanchez. Thanks in advance.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - I really wonder what people read! Sanchez has not asked to move to Juve, though he certainly would take the move if Juve stepped in for him. I don't know of any bid for Draxler in from Arsenal, I thought it was City, but I could be wrong, I haven't checked.}

19 Aug 2016 17:48:42
If Arsenal were to even consider letting Sanchez move this summer then Stan and Arsene would both be looking to leave in the very near future, on a scale of 1 to 10 with 1 being highly likely and 10 being no chance at alk I'd say the chances of this story being anything rubbish are about 100 billion.

Guillem balague saying mustafi is not good enough for arsenal only a slight improvement on what we got already. He says he is not worth the money.

Ballagues thinks he knows everything going on but actually knows
j--- s---. Personally speaking it won't Mustafi or Gimenez but Johney Evans on deadline day. As for a striker or I should say top quality one No Chance. Wenger is going down the same old will we or won't we buy sheniganst has been in forte in the past. I. E. suarez/ higuan.

Agree1 Disagree0

19 Aug 2016 13:21:39
We appear to have made our one annual expensive signing in Xhaka. Despite Gazidis and Wenger stating that we have funds available, I can't see any more top signings. Wenger has prepared us by stating that he wouldn't rule out an older CB and by saying that Welbeck should be back in December.

So we are getting an old CB and no striker. Although I have appreciated all Wenger has done for the club, I am becoming increasingly frustrated with more of the same nonsense. Does he really think that the fans are fooled by his manipulative behaviour? The sad thing is that a quality CB, cover at RB and a top striker, could give us a chance of competing at the top level.

If we don't make these signings, I can see us finishing outside the top four and Wenger being hounded out of the club by the supporters. I hope I'm wroing, but I somehow doubt it.

I'm just pointing out that people go mad at the click bait and over hyping innocent quotes and here we have xhaka would be it! Now the goal post have changed and were supposed to now debate on people's idea of what is another 'biggie' when many could also argue that xhaka wasn't a biggie in the first place! Wow. Ok define biggie for me please.

Xhaka ain't one and he's overpriced, who isn't nowadays but he won't win us many games be a question of how many will he miss.

So can we expect the return of any of the cotton wool clad Euro stars this weekend? Sagna has returned already for City, Pogba expected to play tonight and possibly Fonte for Southampton as he was on the bench last weekend. Payet came off the bench on Monday so could start for West Ham. Kante played last week although appreciate he didn't start final. Where are we with Giroud and Kos? And Ozil who only went to semis. Euros have been done about 6 weeks almost. I expect Xhaka to start at least.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

19 Aug 2016 11:31:11
we risked Ramsey last week and he is now injured, Loris also injured for tottenham, Payet only played a few weeks, pogba has not played yet and there is no statement that he is going to play 90 min.
if wenger plays them all you will crucify him for ruining the players and our season, if he doest play them they hare the cotton wool clad euro start.

3 of our best players, i hope he does wrap them in cotton wool so they can have better seasons.

Agree3 Disagree0

19 Aug 2016 12:10:29

Agree1 Disagree7

19 Aug 2016 19:54:36
4 Euro finalists starting tonight. 3 started the final and 1 was on the bench. No protecting there. Time our guys got back to work before we are 6 points off the lead already. I won't blame Wenger for playing (risking? ) them but if there are injuries then there should be questions as to the lack of preparation while similar players are underway.
The issue is compounded also by the lack of squad reinforcements. That forces the risk if there is any.
