It's Benzema mate.... that's what Wenger wants they play 2gether for France they link well... And /possible very possible Mario Gotze....

Agree1 Disagree2

19 Jul 2015 22:55:11
If you have ever watched benzema and giroud play together for France you would know they don't link up well , benzema gets pushed to far wide because giroud is the target man . If benzema was to be bought by arsenal he would be fighting to be first choice over giroud.

Dude... would obviously love to have Benzema but I don't see it happening. Too predictable for Wenger. I see us getting a top-notch striker but someone that no one or the media expected

Hi guys! A mate of mine is out in Singapore, and ozil has just been spotted getting onto a private jet on his own... Having watched the game yesterday there were no injuries to speak of, so maybe he's off? Here's to hoping he isn't!

Believable1 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - He is teasing you. Oezil doesn't have a pilot's license.}

19 Jul 2015 12:09:56
Where's Ed025? He can't be on holiday again surely, the bloke does more holidays than butlins :-)

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - He is in for cosmetic surgery at the moment. Should be back pretty soon.}

19 Jul 2015 12:35:20
But how will we recognise him Ed002?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - The whole point is that you won't be able to.}

19 Jul 2015 12:39:23
But how will I get my 25 quid back I lent him to have the work done?

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - At the first Arsenal home game you will see a well groomed, naked Adonis-like character sat atop a unicorn at the junction of Gillespie Road and Highbury Hill. That's him.}

19 Jul 2015 12:50:29
Cheers Ed002 I will make sure I touch him up for the money :-)

Arsenal linked with dzeko what are your thoughts guys for me he is to much like giroud

Believable1 Unbelievable0

19 Jul 2015 10:59:58
Yea similar to Giroud. One or the other for me.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jul 2015 11:25:48
If it was for a cut price, then I'd take Dzeko.
He's got Prem experience, he's a good goal scorer and he's more 'technical' than Giroud.
He's 29, which means he's in his prime years, plus he's never been Man City's 1st choice striker.
I know some people would say 'if he's not good enough for city, why's he good enough for us'.

The answer is simple.
If we signed Lacazette (example), he'd probably be our first choice striker.
We're not going to spend £25m + on a bench player, we can't afford it.
If Chelsea or City sign Lacazette, as they've been linked, he's their second choice striker.
But people would still take him for us.

A players role for his current club, is pretty much redundant in his potential role for us.
We could take him and bring him back to his Wolfsburg form.

That being said, he's by no means my first, second or even third choice striker for us, like most people here, I'd take Benzema or Lacazette in a heartbeat.
But if we got Dzeko, I wouldn't be too gutted.

Agree1 Disagree1

19 Jul 2015 11:31:47
It won't happen but he's a name that's not been mentioned for ages so its rumour to be embraced.

19 Jul 2015 11:37:13
Upgrade on giroud, but would prefer others.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jul 2015 11:46:12
Plus just recycled stuff again. Goircuff, dzeko, carvalho, higuain, goetze etc etc.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jul 2015 12:03:13
I'd say he's more clinical than giroud but not more technical. Giroud has scored some stunning goals, he's a good passer of the ball and has good control. just a bit slow and needs to put away the simple goals

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jul 2015 12:26:05
Steve it's like Christmas mate it just wouldn't be Christmas without Turkey sprouts crackers and nuts and no transfer window would be complete if we weren't linked with Carvalho Draxler Reus Higuain and the Frenchman of Madrid.
Its traditional mate :-)

Whats everyone's throughts on the new sky sports Henrey advert?

I think it is the best footie advert i have seen loved the clip in the tunnel at old Trafford.

Is it the best league in the world though?

Believable2 Unbelievable1

19 Jul 2015 09:17:51
The most entertaining I'd say.

Agree0 Disagree2

19 Jul 2015 10:21:14
Yeah the premier league is by far the best because it combines competitiveness and excitement at an extremely high tempo and unbelievably passion.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jul 2015 10:26:47
Every league has their own unique style of play and audience it's just that the premier league is fast paced and exciting , plus it's broadcasted in a lot more countries then most leagues . So it's not necessarily the best but definitely the most famous and exciting league.

Simple fact is, football is simply entertainment. The same way as an opera is, music is, or a tv box set is. The best is established by how much enjoyment people get from watching it, and how many people enjoy watching it. That's it. Whether the best footballer in the world plays in the league, or if it is technically the best football in the world or if the most goals in a season are scored in that league is irrelevant. The best is the one that the most people get the most enjoyment out of watching it.

Anyone that says or thinks differently have clearly lost touch with what football is.

Agree2 Disagree0

19 Jul 2015 11:32:51
It's the most competitive league.

That said, Ligue 1 is pretty competitive too.
It's not as exciting, but before this spell of PSG dominance, there was a different winner every year for a good spell.

Thing is, the reality of it is, the prem has 4 teams who are going to push to win it every year, Utd, City, Chelsea and Us (barring meltdown's like Utd's) the other teams, simply make a push for the Champions league and usually end up in Europa.
It sounds overly critical, but look at Southampton, they had a cracking start to the season and everyone was saying they'd push for top 4 and they finished in the Europa.
We have that every year here, be it Everton, Liverpool, Southampton or Sp*rs, one of them makes a push and in some cases like Liverpool last season, they do break the mould, but normal service is soon resumed.

La Liga is similar, you have Real and Barca who dominate, then Atleti who push them, then the chasing pack of Sevilla and Valencia, with Sociedad, Bilbao and Villarreal (bar their relegation) making the occasional push for UCL.

At the end of the day, 'the best league' is subjective.

If you're entertained most by the Prem, that's the best league.

If you like Serie A most, that's the best league.

Etc, etc.

That said, the Prem has Us, so it's at a great advantage....

From the Ray Winston quotes to the fake rumours to the lobbying anyone that will listen, all very odd imo.

So the conclusion from yesterday is we have talent in abundance .

Which is why I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't buy anyone, its the best squad fully fit we have had in years.

Yes I agree with Red Dog probably just a striker needed but where from is the question?

I have to say gents my because concern ............................................................................... How do we stop all these injuries? and I mean long term ones

Believable0 Unbelievable0

19 Jul 2015 09:31:40
That's down to the new medical team who did get us close to a fully fit squad by May last season :-)
Let's hope what ever it is that cause's us to have so many problems for so long has been identified and changed, time will tell.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jul 2015 11:20:49
I read a piece a year or so ago (wether it was true or not, I can't be sure) that someone inside the club had said that some of our fitness and to a lesser degree, general, training methods were a bit outdated, which some staff thought was increasing our injury problems.

If that's true, we've seen a massive overhaul of our fitness coaches in the last 18 months, quite a few new faces.
So that may help.

I don't think we did TOO badly with injuries last season, at least for us anyway.

This season, we may do even better!

Agree0 Disagree1

19 Jul 2015 11:52:38
Yes we have talent in abundance, but the strength in depth is all from midfield. We are over balanced with midfield players of quality. Not so strong in other areas with back up or title winning talent. Not sur eabout lb, dm cb, or striker. Time will tell.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jul 2015 12:01:07
Some ex players have complained about our non contact training methods where committed tackling isn't allowed which on the face of it should cut down on injuries but it doesn't seem to.
I've read a few times where players leaving the club have said this is a contributory factor to our injury problems plus the reason we get bullied out of games quite often.

Excellent performance, yesterday, against Everton. Fabulous to see Cech in goal and the starting defence was superb, special praise for Bellerin and Chambers. The only blot on the horizon was Arteta, who simply isn't up to the job anymore and must be replaced.
To think we have Sanchez & Welbeck to add to the squad. Looking forward to the season.

19 Jul 2015 10:14:56
Robbie I think your overlooking how good Artetta is in the changing room mate :-) in an ideal world he would be an asset in the pitch too but hey ho you can't have it all.

Agree0 Disagree1

19 Jul 2015 12:07:41
Arteta will be there as an alternative to rest/replace Coquelin as DM. saves us buying one. don't be supprised not to see much of him this year like Rosicky last year.

Hi eds
I had seen reports that Walcott had agreed his Arsenal contract extension yet nothing has been announced, have you any info on where were at with this?
Cheers

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I have no idea, sorry.}

19 Jul 2015 09:28:20
Judging by yesterday nothing has changed he's out of contract next summer, my guess is he will bide his time until January like last time when he is free to talk to other clubs which will strengthen his hand.
Either that or we'll buy a striker and sell this summer.

18 Jul 2015 23:23:29
Plz stop with the "with this performance we can win the league " posts it was a friendly didn't mean anything

Believable0 Unbelievable1

19 Jul 2015 11:36:44
Normally, I'd agree 100%.
But when the friendly is against another Prem team, both playing pretty strong sides, especially considering the difficulty we had against Everton the start of last season, you have to take some positive from that game.

It of course by no means reflects how we'll be every game next season, but in a country with a very hot climate, where the lads were sweating buckets, they put in a strong performance.
The 'lazy' Özil played fantastically, Sanit too.
Have to credit the guys who did well.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Jul 2015 21:53:07
The performance today was of a very commanding nature, hopefully we will continue seizing initiative in matches this season. In recent years we have allowed other teams to dictate play and then reacted to the result of their foray forward rather than take control of the ball and instigate an attack. This method of ceding possession was really beginning to irritate me but towards the end of last season, when we had all our playmakers available, I could see the tide turning for the better.

Now with the plethora of creative talent at Wengers disposal I expect us to totally dominate games, especially with the recovery capabilities and ruthless streak of Le Coq thrown in the mix. Furthermore, I'd like to see us really punish teams and kill matches off once again. I no longer want to experience that all too familiar scenario where we've gone 2-0 up, become stuck in limbo, unsure of whether to attack or defend and then done neither which presents opponents with a goal that commences a last ten minute onslaught. Just keep trying to score without over commiting, that's what the best Wenger teams have always done.

Ozil was an absolute joy to watch today, his awareness of creating space, where team mates are, what the defender's expecting, subtle tempo changes to lull them into a false sense of security and then exploit... These are traits I appreciate in a player as it combines with my vision of the game. This is the first time in a long while that I haven't felt we need several key signings to realistically win the league. I believe the squad only requires a few minor operations using local anaesthetic rather than undergoing major surgery. Though, of course if someone extraordinary becomes available then an extra injection of top top top quality is always welcome.

Focus Cohesion Momentum
This is our season...
