Up to the fans to make the headlines off the pitch now. Lads were pathetic on it

Party like there's no tomorrow, show the Brazilians what real alcohol tolerance looks like

Drink like your team should have played. Because that's about the last chance England have of making even a whisper at this tournament

They were a non factor

A loser at the party. Arrives and leaves, without anyone giving them a second thought

England team and brigade came and went and no one knew or cared. That's the lowest point I can remember at a World Cup for England. Birthplace of the game, a total non factor in its greatest celebration.

Even the wags made zero headlines. C'mon now!

With even Belgium producing modern day footy w class players, it goes to show just how backwards the English team has gone

Enough talent to win this tournament? Absolutely

But was it going to come together under Woy and this spineless group of "veterans" who were supposed to "lead" the kids?Nope, not a chance

Hope they enjoyed the 10 day vaca; glad playing in the England shirt meant about as much as twitter and Instagram and all the otter garbage the English players do as passionately as actually playing football

World Cup 2014: England elects to use a mulligan

See you in 2018

And if you think an Englishman manager can fix this mess, dream on and see you in 2022.

Time to re-hire another Capello, and encourage him to never ever learn English, so cannot be swayed and pushed by the worst media and FA in the world, along with a set of fans who are "disappointed and surprised" when England essentially plays how it has for the last 70 years, because they were supposed to "finally win it"

What a joke

I'm pissed off I waited 4 years to watch this garbage. Glad my grandpa is not alive to see such putrid football in display.

I've never seen an England team want it less. What a shame!

Good post USG.

I reckon that pretty much sums up everybody's feelings.

Time an England player understands they play for the best fans in the world

Fans who spend their hard earned money year after year, on kit after kit and match after match, for what?

England fans deserve a team worthy of such a fanbase

Agree0 Disagree0

I cannot point out the exact reason why england suffer in major tournaments.

Liverpool had suarez and cavani, yes world class but we had out own of Sturridge and rooney, and the English Supporting cast was better.

take a look at italy and we have them on the ropes again, EPL vs Serie A and we should have handled them, deeper squad.

we played portugal in the past and lost, to a one man team, or sweden the one man team, I cannot stress this enough, the talent exists but the performances are missing.

but at the same time having had this chat with a friend of mine, he argues that the EPL is only televised globally with a language appeal, does not make it the best league, technicality and formational nous is not something england was ever known for.

why do the germans predominantly from the bundesliga always go to the quarters or semi's give the team a reasonable chance?

what about france whose players are in the EPL and ligue 1 mostly, why are they so formidable when they come together, its not about playing time, because its not just england that don't get playing time.

conundrum, but in many ways the amount of liverpool players in the squad was too damn high.

Gerrard should not have played, not just for that mistake at the end, but just as lampard is a peripheral figure its time for him to call it a day, same for rooney, he did score a tap in but I think we need to go in a direction which is radical and different, can't be having teams like, USA, croatia, sweden having dreams of winning against england.

on the positive side, I've always wanted england to play like spain and now it looks like they are finally doing that. share a flight guys share stories.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - for an international team to have players like welbeck and henderson starting...what do you expect?..captain crumble had henderson put in the side as his crutch, and danny welbeck...well he,s..danny welbeck! the others arent much better lakes...but..danny welbeck?..gutted..

Great post,

An article I read a while back pretty much sums the whole thing up, I appreciate it slates Mr Rooney but he for me is the major factor in why England and United are so mediocre.

You could swap the names in this piece of the United players for Barkley, Sterling, the Ox, Sturridge, Lallana and others.

How United indulged him with twice German player of the year Kagawa and twice Premiership player of the year Mata able to fill his role is beyond me.

Apologies for the copy and paste here;

Of all the mistakes made by David Moyes as he struggles to fill Sir Alex Ferguson's shoes, giving Wayne Rooney a renewed and improved contract is chief among them.

EVERTON LOSS HIGHLIGHTS ROONEY FOLLY

Nothing positive came from Manchester United's trip to Everton - a defeat that permitted the Merseysiders a league sweep of the Red Devils for the first time in 44 years. This was the same story as it has been all season. United enjoyed the majority of possession but was inept when it came to finding forward passes and conjuring chances. One of the chief reasons for its inability to penetrate was Wayne Rooney.

He was named as United's main striker on the afternoon but is not capable of leading the line. He does not have the discipline or intuition to play there. He never has. Danny Welbeck, for all his flaws, or Javier Hernandez would offer better alternatives to Robin van Persie when he is injured.

Moreover, the position in which Rooney fancies himself, as an off-the-shoulder playmaker in behind the main striker, suits him no better and, instead, shows him up as a one-dimensional striker who struggles when not playing in a 4-4-2. He repeatedly gave the ball away in the Everton half and often popped up to waste passes in the positions in which Juan Mata or Shinji Kagawa would thrive.

Those two, along with Adnan Januzaj, have looked good on the rare occasions they have played together. But the 300,000-pound-a-week man has become the elephant in the room for David Moyes. He is a dressing room ally to Moyes, probably due to the fawning indulgence the beleaguered manager has shown the England man since arriving at the club, and under no circumstances will he be dropped or even substituted if it can be helped. This was evident at Goodison and is a fundamental drawback for United.

It has been another poor season for Rooney. He has scored 15 league goals. Aside from his consolation against Manchester City in September, only his double against Tottenham Hotspur in December came against a top-eight team. This is a season in which United has picked up only seven points against the rest of the top eight so Rooney's goal-scoring tally stands out. It stands out as an indicator of Rooney being the main man at a midtable team.

The odd brace against Aston Villa or blast from the halfway line against West Ham will not disguise his flaws. Those are not the moments United fans will remember. Primarily, they will remember the contract renewal. He has managed to feather his nest by virtue of a sizeable pay raise despite the turmoil that engulfs Old Trafford. It is the biggest folly in this season of follies.

Rooney may have decorated matches here and there but he has not been a leader - certainly not to the extent expected of a man earning 110 million euros. Neither has the 28-year-old been the man to turn to when the chips were down. Where has he been in the big matches? The manner in which he blamed Welbeck for his miss against Bayern Munich hinted at his current attitude.

He remains on course to top United's all-time scoring chart and that will not sit well with many fans. Rooney seems to be going through the motions and United are tied to him, for better and for worse, for another five years. He has held the club to ransom twice to better his contract. Next up is the captaincy and an ambassadorial role. United and England fans must surely despair.

Watching Rooney in action at Euro 2004 was frightening. There was an awesome specimen. He scored four goals and threatened to win it on his own before injury struck. He was, then, a much better prospect than Cristiano Ronaldo. That individual battle of dedication and professionalism has only gone one way. Rooney can now be lumped in with Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic, Patrice Evra and Michael Carrick - key men for Sir Alex Ferguson but who are now laboring from match to match.

Roy Hodgson will too indulge Rooney in Brazil at the World Cup. He will play him at every opportunity despite the evidence borne out at every international tournament since 2006. Rooney does not have the class or the ability to lead England through a tournament just like he can't lead United when it matters. He will go to Brazil on the back of an injury, on the back of a 50-plus-game season and into the sultry heat and humidity. He will surely fail.

With Liverpool playing as well as it is - boasting Raheem Sterling and Daniel Sturridge - Hodgson must realize that even the occasional burst of bright, inventive soccer can get him far at a World Cup. It is fitting that stodgy old England will go to the World Cup with the stodgiest "world-class player" of them all as its leading man.

Also employing the likes of Hodgson, Taylor and McClaren who at no time in their careers have had the press drooling over the class and ability of any team they managed prior to getting the England job.

Bit like giving Moyes the United job. A waste.

Jack, bit unfair on USG.
I thought his post was spot on.

Jenjen, great post.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Jun 2014 09:40:33
I can't argue with that post Jen. Rooney has had one season where he looked liked that player in 2004 (09/10). If he worked as hard as Ronaldo has worked he would/could have been just as good. Unfortunately he didn't, he has had a very solid career but won't go down as one of the best. Such a shame.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed while I agree danny welbeck and sterling were not upto much this game, its amazing to think that the influential players did nothing.

why is it always that one danger man who manages to score, is the hatred for england too damn high?

Zlatan, Ronaldo, Suarez, Mandzukic, Balotelli, I mean I could go on with the big names and how they have scored the winning goals, while we celebrate victories over Andorra and San Marino .

Saurez just as good as signed for Real, they won't relent and he won't fight them off.

You could well be right there fella.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Jun 2014 03:28:10
And so it begins. I told my brother before this game that I almost hope Uruguay advance just to put off the rumors spreading like the plague. I very seriously doubt Suarez is headed anywhere, he's even said he wants to stay. He's on a new contract, and FSG hold on to their best players.

Agree0 Disagree0

FSG was struggling to meet Lallanas 30 mill fee right?

surely they will sell suarez and buy 20 ricky lamberts.

Agree0 Disagree0

Di Maria would defiantly leave if Saurez signed for Real. Him and Ozil in the team would be ok I guess ;)

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Jun 2014 09:43:26
Ancelotti and Ronaldo don't want to work with Suarez. Unlucky for them that they don't make the decisions and Florentino Perez does. Make no mistake - Perez is very interested in signing Suarez. While he is an awful human being it would be a shame to see his talent leave the EPL.

And to think, Arsenal could have had him if they'd stumped up the cash last year. You'd have won the league comfortably!

From what I've seen in the 2 games I've watched Serge Aurier in, I have to say he's been pretty poor bar two decent crosses.

Obviously I would need to see him a few more times to make a true judgement but first impressions aren't great.

Jenko deserves a chance. If it's not working, buy someone in January.

I know we recieved money as part of the deal but I'd heard that bArcelona made Chelsea pay it?

{Ed025's Note - rugged good looks?..that means to me that you have had a damned good thrashing with the ugly stick chris, now flybo is good looking for a guy i suppose, but i bet he uses moisturisers and skin toners.. and probably nail varnish and rouge!, now there is nothing wrong with that..if your a drag queen!.. :)

19 Jun 2014 18:28:31

So apparently Milan are trying to get Joel Campbell plus cash for Balotelli so I wanted to know what you guys think about that. :)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Would Campbell give us anymore than what we get from Theo Walcott I don't think so so I'd be happy if we got Balotelli, and sacrifice Campbell. Maybe install a Carlos Vela like clause to buy him back in a few years

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jun 2014 13:48:23
I wouldn't let him go without seeing what he is capable of in the Premier league. They don't even need him? They got El Sharawaay, Robinihio, Niang and Menez on the wings?

Balotelli for £25m please. World class.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jun 2014 14:06:06
Hmmmm.

I just saw this too!

It depends what they value him at?
The media say he'd cost us £25m which in itself, is a real steal I reckon.
If they turn round and say they'd take £20m and Campbell, we're gambling on a potential star for the sake of £5n (fees Ofc aren't written in stone, it's just want I've seen spoken by media sources!)

Personally, I've always wanted Balotelli at arsenal, nutjob and all.

And now he's starting to calm down (puts it down to his now being engaged) I really, really, REALLY want him here.
Even more than Mr. dag's wants Remy!

I think if that was the case, we'd be best off taking an almost world class player and sacrificing a potentially great player.

Balotelli would transform us.
He's not going to work as hard as Giroud, but he's going to be that edge we need.

I really hope it happens!

Agree0 Disagree0

It would be pretty stupid to make such a deal. We should test Campbell in the premier league first. Balloteli has few pros and cons, but we don't know what Campbell is capable of.
And to compare Campbell and Walcott is laughable

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jun 2014 17:26:11
I have a feeling Campbell will be better than Walcott. We should definitely holding on to him and see how he plays in the Premier League. Balotelli for straight cash would be the best scenario

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jun 2014 11:11:37
If we get Balotelli this summer then I will be more excited than:

Dags in Remys bedroom.

Goldboy in Coleen Rooneys bedroom.

Flybo in Giroud's bedroom.

Jenny in my bedroom.

Or more excited than g62 has been in the last few weeks!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Looking at the fixtures. In my opinion apart from the toughest games against Man City, Manchester United and Liverpool who we play once each. I think the fixture gods have been kind to us in the run up to topping the table in the first half of the season.
It looks a bit easier than it did last season. Hopefully Wenger doesn't see it like that and think we can cruise to the January transfer window and start looking for players then.
