Is it just me or we didn't need Xhaka? He is good but was he neccessary?
Coq was brilliant before injury last season and Elneny has been a revelation for me

This scenario is kinda like Cech coming in for Ospina. He is very good, but was he what we needed?
There are other positions that need far much more attention: CB, RW, ST

Maybe I am just cynical.

Hi Rue,
I think we needed Cech and happy with Granit.
I agree we need RB, CD, RW and CF -> nervous manager says we only need 2 signings
I would go with CD and CF plus a bit of nervousness as still leaves us a little short.

Agree0 Disagree6

19 Jun 2016 21:55:27
Rue my thoughts exactly, the swiss arteta, we spent 30 mil on him and as far as importance goes we need a 30 mil plus striker, hope we spend what's needed to fill that void. Elneny, wilshire, xhaka, coq, ramsey, caz central midfield, will one be sold, time will tell all.

Agree2 Disagree2

19 Jun 2016 21:58:19
Needed? Maybe not but an upgrade on any position is always welcome aslong as we address the other areas needed too.

Granit just had a really impressive game, bossed the midfield, always open for a pass/ get out, sprayed the ball about the ease, always commanding.
He's going to do absolute wonders in our team, can you imagine: xhaka cazorla ozil as our midfield 3 lol :) that's outrageous.

We're being linked with every Tom, dick n Harry at the moment for the striker position it's going to be interesting who the boss chooses/ settles for :)

Agree0 Disagree6

19 Jun 2016 22:03:11
Sy4 we definitely needed cech, not sure we definitely needed xhaka, but time will tell.

Agree2 Disagree2

20 Jun 2016 07:35:56
Because we have Sanchez you wouldn't take Ronaldo?

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Jun 2016 10:23:49
Don't get me wrong gents, I love upgrades in any position. Cech is very good, Xhaka is excellent at what he does. But I am basing this on Wenger's philosophy of never signing more than three players in a window. If we are to get three players, then I would want those three to be in areas where we are glaringly deficient. Upfront, right wing and CB is where the most immediate attention is needed

I am excited by Xhaka, but if we don't fix those three positions then I feel we will always be found wanting come May.

Agree3 Disagree1

20 Jun 2016 13:28:26
Im with you rue, we need a top striker whi won't come cheap, we didn't need xhaka at 30 mil. If we are spending 150 mil this summer then fine, i'm sure we will get what we need.

Agree1 Disagree0

20 Jun 2016 13:42:34
Lucas sancez and ronny, is an upgrade xhaka as yet is not a ronny type upgrade on what we have. Not even close.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Jun 2016 14:10:37
Xhaka is a leader, he's exactly what we needed. He'll be club captain in the 17/ 18 season.

Can't wait to see Granit against a strong French team.

Let's see what our new boys got :)

19 Jun 2016 19:47:44
Looked a bit of a stroller in the last game. It will be good to see him up against some of the best midfielders in the game and against the player we should have got in his place. Perfect audition to prove he's the man.

Agree2 Disagree1

19 Jun 2016 20:15:20
He is a reactive player, with Ozil and Sanchez around him he will play his best.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jun 2016 21:59:10
Sano, I hope he passes a few more balls forward for us, won't become fans favourite passing sideways and back. Still if he plays regular he will be keeping good players out, so that would be good.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jun 2016 22:03:01
Well impressed lads, he just a great game.

Midfield complete (bar a winger)

The options we have in that area are now up there with the elite.

Now the crucial decision of which striker to chose : /.

Agree0 Disagree6

19 Jun 2016 18:40:24
If all else fails on the striker front and rather than going again with just Olly Theo and Danny if and when available, would you consider as a short term solution a player who is 33 years old but is natural goalscorer and offers a real alternative to Olly but who could equally play with and off him if and when needed.
He's a London lad who's been scoring premier league goals on a regular basis for over a decade and continues to do so now in a team that isn't exactly known for its ability to generate many goal scoring chances per game, he's won many a game from both starting line up and coming off the bench with his goals, he has almost a goal every other game strike rate for his country despite mostly playing only a bit part from the bench.
So would you consider such a man in the event we can't attract a top striker this summer for whatever reason?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

19 Jun 2016 19:10:27
I always thought Defoe would join us at some stage but I am not sure now as still plenty options. Would rather look around for something better.

Agree1 Disagree0

19 Jun 2016 19:17:59
This is arsenal and we have money and we should have ambition to get the tools to get the job done or else we are not the club we think we are.

Agree2 Disagree0

19 Jun 2016 19:28:32
Totally agree SY mate but if it came to it rather than go with what we had last season would you sign Defoe?
As a little and large along Oly and a real poaching alternative to him I think it could prove an excellent short term improvement on what we have.
Higuain Vardy Lewandowski are all preferable of course but if they all refuse to join us Jermaine could be the difference between drawing at Southampton and winning or drawing at utd city Chelsea than losing which over a season could mean the difference between 1st and 4th place chasing next May.

Agree0 Disagree2

19 Jun 2016 19:37:32
If he scored the goals that won the league Steve would you care?
Samuel Etto Chelsea Michael Owen Utd Hendrick Larson utd again all short term stop gaps with premier league winning medals to their name mate.
Rather than walk to work because you can't have the Lamborghini you want to be seen in and lose your job for being late, be on time and keep your job by borrowing Ravers Cora for a bit mate because it might lead you to the promotion that leads to the car of your dreams:-)

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jun 2016 19:51:16
Agree to a point gunner but defoe eto larson and owen, spot the odd one out. Bit of a difference in talent. Three of them had won leagues and cups at the highest level the other hasn't.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jun 2016 19:53:42
I've always thought Defoe would fit is perfectly, he is Ian Wright. He scores outa nothing constantly. Brilliant player!

We need BIG and we need to go BIG now.

Agree0 Disagree2

19 Jun 2016 20:12:52
I will see your previous league winning Steve and Raise you a Danny Simpson Robert Huth and a Danny Drinkwater.

Agree1 Disagree2

19 Jun 2016 20:16:33
Even as a hypothetical discussion, I wouldn't entertain the idea! He was excellent this season, but it sends the wrong message to current team and targets. Could defoe do a great job? For a season or two, maybe. If he didn't though, aw would be crucified. Not worth the gamble. Its weird how you get players like Defoe and Bent that did incredibly well with poor service, and get totally overlooked by big and national teams.

Agree2 Disagree0

19 Jun 2016 20:30:08
62 - if we have no one signed and 24 hours to go to window close. YES, sign him up. Whenever I see him score, I can't believe he never replaced Wrighty. But at his tender age - he has to be a back up plan.
Sure someone will want Remy!

I just want a better plan A who scares people when they see the team sheet and also stand opposite them in the tunnel.

Agree1 Disagree1

19 Jun 2016 20:45:01
I hear you SY and so do I mate its just a possible option if our first choice don't come off and one that has a lot more going for it than sticking with Theo as cover and an alternative option to Giroud.

Agree0 Disagree1

19 Jun 2016 20:49:13
Gunner they aren't strikers?

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jun 2016 22:17:01
Fair comment Steve, try Okazaki and Ulloa then mate :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Jun 2016 02:25:56
Yes they hardly played. lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Jun 2016 12:52:28
Although he is an excellent player i am afraid he can't play for us as he has already played for our neighbours, which in my view should automatically rule him out. Its a bit like having a world of women out there to go, meet and fall in love with but you end up with the ugley next door neighbour just because you couldn't be bothered to look further afield. If we can't find a better alternative to a 33 year old ex Spurs player then I am giving up my Arsenal membership and moving over to watch the egg chuckers next season. :)

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Jun 2016 13:32:24

It sure does mate! If he chooses to stay at Leicester then I have the utmost respect for the guy!

If arsenal come knocking then players should be jumping at the chance. Too many not coming to us and either staying put or flitting somewhere else.

Whats the betting we don't sign a top striker

Again I have the feeling we have spent our 'big ' money.

Believable0 Unbelievable6

19 Jun 2016 17:52:18
Ummm not sure mate, I think both Arsene and the club know if we're less than ambitious again this summer and fail to compete yet again next season its going to be a very uncomfortable season for everyone at the club next season.
Personally I don't think Arsene will repeat last summer's mistakes and heap all that criticism on himself for another whole season again glady.

Agree3 Disagree1

19 Jun 2016 18:06:14
I hope your right mate but it will mean changing a habit of a lifetime.

Just been reading a few posts about Sturridge. no thanks. the sick room is busy enough.

Agree0 Disagree5

19 Jun 2016 18:33:29
He has too! Everyone knows that and yes sturidge is a sick note. But he's England's best when fit.

Agree3 Disagree0

19 Jun 2016 18:50:08
Swapping sick note Sturridge who produces whenever fit for sick note Theo who doesn't sounds like good business to me boys.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jun 2016 19:32:08
We are again actively trying to sign a striker, that's certain. We obviously need one and the club needs to get one, it just how much they want to put behind getting one.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jun 2016 15:18:34
Ospina had a blinder apparently to get to the semis of the copa, we must keep him he's atop top keeper and cech has looked slow and unsure recently.

Believable10 Unbelievable4

19 Jun 2016 17:21:04
Cech has looked slow and unsure. Never thought I'd see someone say such a thing steve lol.

Agree1 Disagree8

19 Jun 2016 17:44:49
D16 he was to impressive towards end of our season letting in few save able near post efforts and hasn't looked too good in euros so far, in fact one paper rated him worse performer on the pitch in the last game. If he wasnt petr cech i think he would have come under more scrutiny. let's hope he's better for the nwew season.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jun 2016 18:41:33
Correction, he wasn't.

19 Jun 2016 15:13:47
Daley blind, no no no no no no no no no no no no no, whose great idea atcthe club was that, if true sack them.

Believable7 Unbelievable1

19 Jun 2016 16:40:24
To be honest mate, I'd wager the Blind 'link' is just paper talk.
He's alright, but we already have a player who can play Rb, CB, and when needed, DM in Calum chambers.
Whilst blind is currently better than him, he's also older and would cost a bit considering he's a rival clubs player.

I think, us Arsenal fans are one of, if not the most interested in transfers because of the whole 'X amount of cash not spent' thing every year, so for papers, linking us with a big/ controversial player, is an easy way to sell papers/ get clicks.

It's like how you can't trust sky news when they 'break' a story, they must make a fortune telling people that X club are close to signing X player, then everyone jumps on , whacks a tenner on that player joining at decent odds and then it doesn't happen.

I think I'm just getting more cynical as I get older.

Agree0 Disagree6

19 Jun 2016 17:20:28
I don't think your far wrong mate, because we have had so many disappointing windows over recent seasons we have hung onto the ridiculous Benzema type rubbish for much more than its worth out of desperation, but I do think this summer might be different or is that more desperation on my behalf :-)

Agree5 Disagree0

19 Jun 2016 19:34:20

Austin, lambet, deeney, long or if we're lucky sturidge.

Sano let's hope we are lucky then. Lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jun 2016 16:42:51
I'd love us to go after Chicharito.

Had a decent scoring record at Utd, wasn't bad during his Madrid loan and then exploded into life at Leverkussen.
I think putting him up top, with Özil supplying him and Sanchez playing off him, would be a recipe for goals.

Agree0 Disagree4

19 Jun 2016 16:49:26
Olly hits an average of 13 Pl goals a season for us so anyone who has a better strike rate than that over the last 2-3 seasons is worth consideration especially if they've been doing in a side that doesn't make as many real quality chances as we do.
If we talking about strikers who have a worse strike rate than Olly over the same period he's been with us why are we?

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jun 2016 17:55:18
I think chicarito is a decent shout. Long and Austin perhaps too, though none have a real fear factor for an opposing team like an aguero, Kane or Sturridge. Deeney is decent and strong, but a no for me - soamy goals from pens and I thought ighalo was better (then huge dip in form) . Lambert too similar to olly and not as good.
I don't really go in for comparing cfwd targets with Olly myself as its not one or the other. Olly can go through some inconsistent patches, but also can do a great job - presence, hold-up, bringing Sanchez in to play and headers. I think Danny is great too. I just think we need different options for different teams. Ideally someone proven, fast, and will get regular shots on target, but if not, lesser names could still be useful. Think you're right G62.

Agree0 Disagree4

19 Jun 2016 19:37:38
Sano 😂

Chico is a little favourite of mine too, he'd bang in goals for fun with his clever movement n the way he's constantly on the shoulder looking to get in behind, he is exactly what we want/ need.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jun 2016 19:54:42
If we played with two strikers and one wasnt giroud he maybe ok but on his own up front a big no, not for us.

He is currently in Germany I think.

Clearly after Copa America display, there will be more interest now.

Appreciate your thoughts and appreciate your input to this site.

{Ed025's Note - to be honest he was not all that at QPR mate and i think there is a lot better out there..

19 Jun 2016 11:05:48
His goal scoring stats are awful and as a winger I'm not sure he'd be an improvement on Ox Campbell Theo or even Ramsey playing on the right hand side.
He'd just become another squad filler at Arsenal imo mate.
