What do people see in Bellerin?

Love his hair and eyes.

Pace effort dedication, how often is Hector the last man in defence despite us having 5 players further back than him when the ball is lost?
Xhaka I can see very little in but why Belerin gets such a tough time I don't understand, his crossing needs improving but if that was bang on would we still have him?

Whatever happened to not reading too much into preseason Matches?

Q, i have never rated him, the pre season games just reinforce my belief. The guy is a fraud.

Agree0 Disagree1

02 Aug 2018 00:45:46
Q, pre season games are about fitness only. It doesn't make you a better or worse player. I have opinions on players but the results and performance of the team is virtually irrelevant. The results are pretty meaningless.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Aug 2018 05:27:42
Bellerin needs more defensive coaching. It is very early days under Emery and Bellerin will clearly benefit from training alongside Lichtsteiner.
Defensively the team has a lot to learn, but we haven't conceded more than one goal a game in pre-season and haven't suffered a single defeat, except one on penalties.
We still have Monreal to return and Torreira, who will provide better cover.

02 Aug 2018 08:24:02
Pre season games mean nothing, I have a feeling that Dick will be our man to get the best from these players and will have a plan B in games unlike mr W had. Am excited for the season to start now.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Aug 2018 09:43:22
337 - I agree with you. Emery has only had a matter of weeks or in some cases days to work with the players. I didn't see last night's match, but what worried me was that we conceded from a corner, which I did see on Sky and apparently we are again employing a high press. With relatively slow central defenders in Sokratis and Mustafi, this is suicidal. Saying that, we have conceded very few goals in pre-season matches. Looking forward to our first league match, although we must be patient whilst Emery while he makes the changes and the new players settle in.

Agree1 Disagree0

02 Aug 2018 10:18:05
Dick might well not be showing his hand and saving his A game plan for City when there is points at stake.
I doubt very much we will be the one trick pony's of past seasons from now on.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Aug 2018 11:23:21
I don't really rate Bellerin that much either, apart from decent pace he does not offer much his delivery of crosses is pretty woeful and is often caught in bad positons defensivly. Monreal on the other side is a much better defender. I would personally give Lichtsteiner the nod ahead of Bellerin to be more solid at the back. let's give Emery a chance though to stamp his authority and ways on the team and hoepfully we will improve as whole team on the defensive front, we need to to have a chance of getting back into top 4.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Aug 2018 16:37:56
Ryan, i believe while we have xhaka, bellerin and mustaffi in our team we will leak goals. The first two names are awfull at defending and mustaffi is just waiting for a mistake. I do believe mustaffi has ability at defending but he needs to concentrate better, the other two are just liabilities.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Aug 2018 22:31:23
If it was upto me, i would be moving xhaka out moving ramsey out (unless he signs quick) moving al ninny out, buying nzonzi and trusting that part of midfield with him, torreira, guendouzi and maitland niles.

Is that right sy, you obviously haven't seen gouendouzi, torreira and maitland niles play. And by the way i was on about the four players for two of the midfield places. It is only me dreaming of stopping the rot that xhaka and al ninny bring to this midfield but i am going to accept, no-one would want to take xhaka and al off us.

Well at least our players won't be so weak

Oh wait

No Ramsey

Arsenal lost Aaron Ramsey in the warm-up ahead of this one.

The Welshman, who has been linked with Chelsea, was due to start in Dublin.

But he pulled up and has been replaced by Emile Smith Rowe.

Seriously

Same old Arsenal. despite new manager and set up. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚.

You know I was saying the other day about not getting carried away by the PSG game :-)
Win lose draw, play brilliant or awful friendlies are notoriously bad indicators of anything that lays ahead one way or the other.
The City game will tell us so much more than any friendly game be it v Chelsea or Borehamwood.

Pre season timing is out fitness not 100% and match fitness still to tuned.
We've all played football at some level and we've all needed time to get up to speed, it's what friendlies are for.
Don't Worry About Dick SY mate, he came organise when he has to and tonight's game was at a funny angle :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Aug 2018 23:07:04
SY I'll bet you Β£5 donation we will conceed less goals and gain more points than last season.
If I'm right you donate Β£5 to labour and if we do as badly as last season on either points gained or goals conceded I will donate Β£5 to Tory hq and Trust me I really really don't want to do that :- (
1p would hurt, but I'm confident I won't have to worry about it ;-)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed0333's Note - And I’ll give Β£5 to UKIP if Ashley Williams has a decent game this season.

01 Aug 2018 23:23:14
Corners and high line ignorance again tonight. Same BS catching us out.

Embarrassing given all the PR the club has been pushing on its website about how much work we are doing on the defence . just quit posting rubbishe and sort the rubbishe out so we are pleasantly surprised rather than media going on about same old fragile arsenal.
Sort it out Dick. It’s oretty simple - get Keown in.

01 Aug 2018 23:27:42
Are ukip still going Ed0333 mate? I thought they broke up after their one hit wonder Brexhit :-)

{Ed0333's Note - who knows mate I was just exaggerating for comic effect and I don’t even live in the U.K so their existence doesn’t effect me. Enjoy your season under Dick I’m sure it will be an interesting one.

02 Aug 2018 08:50:43
The club website is an embarrassing advert and only for the most tinted glassed reader to take seriously, but that's it's job, to promote the club in the very best light possible no matter how cringe worthy it's comments are.
It's the club promoting itself, when was the last time you saw tesco advert that said " we are still crap and Aldi are far better value but we are trying :-)

Lots of noise surrounding Ramsey's situation at the club, but little news of Welbeck.
I would like him to stay, as we could have great attacking options, imagine a front three of Welbeck, Lacazette and Aubameyang.
In addition we need 8 'homegrown' overage players to make up the squad.
News today that Emery still wants Nzonzi, but has to sell in order to raise the necessary funds to sign him. Assuming Ramsey won't sign, perhaps we could sell him and sign Nzonzi with the proceeds.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

01 Aug 2018 10:27:12
I rather sell Wellbeck and promote youngster Neketiah to 1st team tbh, which will free up wages for a proper winger singing also. don't get me wrong Wellbeck is good pro and you can't fault his workrate and attitude but for me he not a reliable enough finisher to be good enough backup to PEA/ Lacazette. Yeh good point about the homgrown quota mind.

Agree1 Disagree0

01 Aug 2018 11:20:14
Basically you can name 17 non home grown players in your 25 man squad.
Belerin is home grown so that gives us a full 18 of non brits we can filed in our match day squad.
Add Chambers Holding Iwobi Maitland Niles Nelson Eddy plus the young Greek CB because of his age.
I wouldn't get to hung up on home grown quota because it isn't as big a deal as it sounds and certainly not worth giving in to excessive wages because of.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Aug 2018 11:29:03
does the greek kid count? doesn't he have to of been with an english or welsh side for 3 years?

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Aug 2018 11:35:20
Is he old enough to be counted as non home grown yet? I'm not 100% sure but I think only over 23s count.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Over 21 so it is of no releavance. Try counting the other way. Just count the non HG over 21 and if it is 17 or less there is not an issue.

01 Aug 2018 11:57:26
Very good point Ed002 thank you.
And by my reckoning we are under 17 non home grown players so like you say it's not an issue for us.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Aug 2018 15:41:15
oh yes sorry g62 of course he's too young to count.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Aug 2018 17:42:32
It's not easy to keep track of who is or isn't home grown or which player count and don't count Eden mate, but I think we are fine of any problems with or without Danny and Aaron on that score.
I like the idea behind the home grown rule but in practice I'm not sure it's worked out like everyone had hoped it would and think it needs looking at again personally.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Aug 2018 17:54:01
By my reckoning our over-21 squadlist looks like this at the moment (*indicates homegrown) :

1. 26 Emiliano Martinez*
2. 2 Hector Bellerin*
3. 16 Rob Holding*
4. 21 Calum Chambers*
5. 8 Aaron Ramsey*
6. 17 Alex Iwobi*
7. 23 Danny Welbeck*
8. 25 Carl Jenkinson*
9. 19 Bernd Leno
10. 1 Petr Cech
11. 5 Sokratis Papastathopoulos
12. 6 Laurent Koscielny
13. 12 Stephan Lichtsteiner
14. 18 Nacho Monreal
15. 20 Shkodran Mustafi
16. 31 Sead Kolasinac
17. 4 Mohamed Elneny
18. 7 Henrikh Mkhitaryan
19. 10 Mesut Ozil
20. 34 Granit Xhaka
21. 9 Alexandre Lacazette
22. 14 Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
23. 11 Lucas Torreira
24. 13 David Ospina
25. 28 Lucas Perez

If we sell Welbeck tomorrow, we can only replace him with a homegrown player, same with Ramsey. Given Jenkinson is surplus to requirements that also imay leave a gap if he leaves. Although I would expect Ospina and Perez to move on which frees up two places for non-homegrown players.

NB currently no room for Campbell.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Aug 2018 19:28:08
Ospina and Perez will leave too DH mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Aug 2018 19:44:55
That was supposed to read (I'm pretty sure ) Ospina and Perez will leve too DH :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Aug 2018 19:49:21
yeh g62 i imagine a large part of it was to try and promote english and welsh players, but the whole 3 years with a club no matter the nationality and you count makes that pretty redundant.
