If wenger decide to leave will a new manager bring immediate success to Arsenal?

If you offered the board 50m profit and finish 4th or win premier league at a 20m loss. What will the board choose?

Wenger is under lots of pressure, he's expected to bring success by the fans but expected to do it by a budget smaller than his rivals. How many managers can really achieve this? Clubs like Liverpool and spurs sold their best players and got to spend the money the received yet have gone backwards. We sold rvp, fabregas and nasri in such a short time yet stayed pretty consistent.

The problem arsenal have is the board. We are run like a business not a football club. A football club has to put their fans first rather then the pound signs. It isn't a coincidence that when dein left that our success has dried up. We need someone to control arsenal who actually cares about the club and the fans.

If wenger leaves the reality is we still be a top 4 club. Whoever takes charge will have the same issues wenger has had. Players will leave because we won't pay them what other clubs will pay them (nasri, rvp, sagna) money won't be invested in the club when we really need it. Aslong as the club keeps making profit they won't be any pressure from the board hence why wenger has been in charge for so long.

I have no doubt in my mind that wenger really loves the club and wants to bring success, but we will always stay a top four club unless their big changes in the board. Whoever takes over will have their hands tied. Profit first and they don't care about the rest

{Ed025's Note - good read that noodles..

01 Dec 2014 23:34:42
Good post noodles.

In fact, Spurs sold one player (Bale) and have gone downhill and Liverpool have also sold one player (Mr Nibbles) and have gone even further downhill.

Apart from recently, we sold a major player (or players) every season, but still maintained our status quo of finishing 4th and CL qualification.

Agree0 Disagree0

We do compete with the big clubs our finances now are such, that every club has to run as a business, even chelski and sheik city. I will put this question to everyone. If we had not bought, ozil and sancez ( all hypothetical of course) and we invested 80 mil on a defensive midfielder and a center back of similar standing in world football. Do you think ( forgetting injuries) we would be better off today, as far as fighting for the league, with the players we have.

Agree0 Disagree0

Fine post Noodles,

I feel a lot of Wenger haters out there are oblivious to the way our club is run at board level. We are the definition of of a sporting business rather than a sports club. I envy the way clubs like Dortmund and Bayern are run with the fans at the forefront of everything from the top level of the club to the bottom level.

I said it before we really need to shake things up from the top to the bottom. And on a side note our ticket prices are really getting to me. When I look at what other elite European clubs pay to watch the club they love it makes my blood boil.

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't forget, Noodles. We did spend in excess of £80m in the summer, include Ozil and that's upwards of £120 million in the space of a calendar year, and that is without selling any key players. The club will always be run like a business but, to me, our recent spending suggests that we are ready to start running as a title and champions league challenging club.

I can't help but agree that our success dried up after David Dein's departure, we were so much more ruthless in the transfer market and Dein always ensured that we got our man, regardless of fee or wages. Nowadays we're happy to waste time trying to negotiate a better deal that ultimately ends up with our rivals winning the race for key players. That can only be pinned on Gazidis and the rest of the board.

However, the type of players we buy or do not buy is entirely up to the manager, as are the performances on the pitch from the players we do have. It's Arsene that has failed to make the signings we need for depth and balance, it's Arsene that has gotten the system and tactics all wrong up until this point, and it's Arsene that doesn't have the stones to bench underperforming players like Santi and Monreal in favour of in form players like the Ox or give our promising youth talent a go ie Campbell and Bellerin.

I believe that the right manager would be able to get most of not all of our lads playing to their full potential, make the right signings, and wouldn't be afraid to change things up when the going gets tough. In these instances the budget isn't a factor.

So as I see it. Regardless of what goes on in the board room. Arsene is not the right manager any more.

Good question Steve.

I think are would be worse off.

Better defensively but worse offensively.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think we would be better. Don't get me wrong now they are at the Emirates I would keep them both but considering Ozil and Sanchez cost a combined £75-80million say we got in Ramos and Busquets or Hummels and Schweinstiger for the around the same amount. We would still have an abundance of attacking talent if Sanchez and Ozil were gone.

Good question Steve.

I agree CIG, it's crazy how the money dried up when Dein had left to.

That Wenger has never given chances to Walcott, Ramsey, Chambers, Gibbs, Chamberlain, Gnabry and Zalalem is shameful.

Losing out to all the other big clubs for Ozil and Sanchez was just a disgrace. :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

There may have been one but I can't remember a title winning team that was poor defensively and had a soft middle.
Successfully teams are built from the back, well to my knowledge they have been unless someone can remember better?

Agree0 Disagree0

Gunner62 there are many teams built on attack with very fragile defenders who have been successful over the years. The only difference between those teams and ourselves is we are playing in the EPL and they are playing under 12's.

Agree0 Disagree0

Didnt david dean move on just after the stadium move. sold to usmanov for 75million not a bad return. I think he saw we needed new investment to compete

Ed025,

Have just read Jose Moaninho is unhappy with EFC because you have not been playing Christian Atsu enough.

He's thinking of recalling him and loaning him out to Sunderland.

Cheek.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - i like him dags, but he cant get near our 1st team mate, yet he would be the best player ever to play for sunderland (no disrespect to sunderland).. :)

Greetings and Salutations my fellow Gooners!

So for many Jurgen Klopp the master tactician has Dortmund not in first, third, fourth but last, yes last in the ultra competitive Bundesliga and this is the man many want to replace Arsene.

Personally I think this will be Arsenes last contract so why not enjoy our greatest managers final run especially after a strong week. A week which showed us that perhaps Arsene does know a thing or two and perhaps our players must also learn that football is not only about going forward but defending collectively as a group.

Arsenals greatest strength is that we are very pragmatic in our approach and I believe we have internally already begun our search for a new manager, but we have never conducted any of our dealings in public.

The banner which has been seen numerous times since 2012 was unnecessary when one views the context of what will transpire at the club in years to come.

The reason I love Arsenal is because we are very intelligent in our undertakings and while most of what I have said is simply opinion and conjecture I strongly believe the club is moving towards its next chapter.

But before its done allow Arsene to finish his term with the class he is. Signs like the one yesterday which may reflect personal freedoms speak detrimentally to our club as it creates unrequired chaos.

The pro and anti Wenger talk is counterproductive for the simple fact that he has a contract and the club will honour it. So perhaps our time would be best be served by creating a better atmosphere of support at our club instead of debating Arsenes position which for all account is secure.

And for the record I do like Klopp but all managers given time will be found wanting so perhaps it's not always best to assume someone may be better than what we have or that the grass is greener on the other side.

Gunners4Life, IN AW we Trust!

Damn fine post.

I am an Arsenal Fan not a Wenger Fan BUT I have to admire what he has done for the club and that he is truly a smart manager
Can't argue with his quote

"I started to manage a team at the top level in 1983. If I am completely useless tactically, I am a genius [because] I can hide it very well."

Get behind him as he is a great manager and has produced some of the best football we may ever see. He is competing with mega money clubs while having to sell players to fund the longterm future of the club. He never moaned and stayed professional. He also kept us in Europe. I think he deserves the respect that a great club like Arsenal would give such a manager.
He knows our weaknesses - he ain't stupid and sure he will address them as he is a WINNER.

Let's not push out our great manager and best option. Let's also be open to our opinions being challenged by other arsenal fans as we all have opinions and we can't be all right.

I understand peoples frustrations especially those spending thousands to watch the team.

It's a banter page and we all want the best for Arsenal - I believe AW can deliver and would be happy for Klopp to replace him in a few years.

Come on you gunners - what's our crest saying again? Something about working together and unity???

I caught the mrs looking at her breasts in the mirror the other day, so I said "you ok darling?"

"really" she said

" we'll it worked on your backside didn't it"

How've you never seen Messi play? You should catch a few Barca games, wipes the floor with Ronaldo.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - not for me mate...give me ronaldo any day..

Ronaldo is an alien, he is the all round perfect football player - tbh I don't like his arrogance but he is by far the best footballer I've ever seen, messi is second no doubt but a definite second

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - no argument from me mate..

01 Dec 2014 20:43:13
Messi is the most natural, instinctive footballer that's ever played the game.
Don't get me wrong, Ronaldo is a great player but for me it's a lot of show boating, hours and hours and hours of drilling and practising to get it right whereas with Messi he was born with his football talent, he could sit at home and eat paella and watch re runs of eldorado all week and he'd still be the best player on the planet come match day, he knows where everone is around him, knows what pass to make, what run to make, it all comes so naturally to him that that is what Hobbes him the edge over Ronaldo for me.
You don't get any of that strutting look at me peacock BS that you get with Ronaldo either.

Messi is phenomenal .

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - excellent player 1404 no doubt about that, but over the years he has had a lot put on a plate for him imo by the likes of iniesta xavi ect, i just wonder if messi would be as good in a lesser team...because i think ronaldo would mate..

Agree ed, ronaldo already proved it. He played for united :D but I think a couple years ago messi was a fair bit better than Ronaldo, but its credit to ronaldos spirit and work effort that insead of accepting that he made sure he came back better. I doubt there are many more motivated people in the world. Arrogant so an so though ;)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - confidently exuberant more than arrogant for me eden mate..

Yeh to be fair if I was ronaldo I would have my head pretty far up my own whatsit

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - arse..

01 Dec 2014 21:32:04
Ronaldo had Ozil and Di Maria Modric putting it on his plate ed.

Either way neither should have won it this year. Both had cat world cups, Neuer all day long

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - goalies dont count sheeny..their brains are in their gloves mate..

Didn't know if it would get posted, so I improvised :p

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - there is a line eden...but that does,nt cross it mate..

01 Dec 2014 21:58:20
Ronaldo for me every time, mainly because he was awesome in PL.

Messi is phenomenal, but untried outside of La Liga.

Agree0 Disagree0

Messi did make it to the final and its hardly ronaldos fault Portugal stink he did single handedly get them to the world cup against Sweden. I feel there's more deserving Germans than neuer

Agree0 Disagree0

I think bendtner should have one it myself :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Dec 2014 22:35:52
Neuer had more major saves than any player scored in the WC. Wherever there brains are he's the player of the year in my eyes.

As for Messi he also has over 100 assists. so while people were putting goals on a plate for him he's been returning the favor in some kind

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - you make some great points there sheeny...still ronaldo though.. :)

No-one can possibly claim that Messi is better than Ronaldo right now. Ronaldo is in another league.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - no mate...they are both in la liga.. :)

Is that you Dags? ;)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - how very dare you G95..

Ronaldo carried his nation to the finals. The hatrick versus sweden was amazing. Messi has had the luxuxy of iniest xavi. And ronaldo has seen players come and go but his stats stay the same. Apparantly messi ego is also massive. Picking signing tactics the lot.

Wouldnt cry if neuer gets it though but ronnie winning the chamos league could tip it. Has a keeper ever won it before?

Agree0 Disagree0

Anyway nice debate enjoyed reading people. Eds oncee again cheers for the back up

Also I would like to admit when I joined the site I though eds was just short for edward. Then I thought why so many were working in the site with the same name. Then it clicked. There iv said it 😳

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - are you a goalie DG?.. :)

01 Dec 2014 23:17:22
its amazing for a resonable intelligent bunch you all seem to have got this so badly wrong, weird.

Agree0 Disagree0

Messi 2-3 years ago, unplayable. Greatest player I've ever had the pleasure of watching.

Ronaldo is ahead right now. Is he as good as Messi was 2-3 years ago. Not quite, no.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - if you could pick one of either messi or ronaldo for arsenal G95...who would it be?..

Ed in my opinion the keeper is always the MVP. Everyone else on the pitch are just there to make up the numbers or make the keeper look good. I think you can guess what position I played!!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - centre forward?.. :)

Ronaldo. Without a question. Been here and done it. The best player in the world right now. Only logical reason you would pick Messi is due to the age difference.

Agree0 Disagree0

G95 you have got it. Eds I am not a goalie lol I was when younger I had a pro in defence of ahead of me whi became a welsh international and is no more but still plays league football. I am not more of a goal scorer lol

Agree0 Disagree0

For me both at their peak Messi is a better player. Keep seeing that Messi had this player and that player supplying him. Didn't Ronaldo have maestros such Scholes and Giggs behind him as well as player such as Rooney, Tevez and Berbatov to play alongside at United? The talent he has played alongside at Real Madrid (£biilion talent) is equally as good as the players Messi has had around him.

Messi's records speak for themselves, goals, assists, hatricks, awards etc. Until Ronaldo can match that Messi who is younger is the better player of this generation no argument.

It's like saying Real Madrid are not the most successful European club when they have won 10 CL's but instead it is Milan who have been more successful but they have only won 7.

Agree0 Disagree0

From now on ronaldo will always be above him now I believe. messi has peaked very early and that's clear to see

epping gunner would neuer or ronaldo win us the league? i'd think ronnie would help us out more

Agree0 Disagree0

Attack wins you games, defence wins you titles. Neuer for me, its gone from being about the MVP of the entire squad to a scoring contest between Messi and Ronaldo.

Agree0 Disagree0

I hear that quote but citys defence last year wasnt great but going forward they were immense. chelsea were solid but couldn't score goals?? hence jose going for costa and slating his strikers last year? and liverpool with the s.a.s came very close. there gone now and there terrible without two world class strikers

for me ronaldo would make the bigger difference to us

Agree0 Disagree0

Derby. it all starts from the back. we can and have lived without a Messi. but you stick a dodgy keeper between the sticks and it all falls flat (and I should know, I was the flapper for many years!). Keepers are not just for Christmas. they are for life!!

I'm going to do my messi v ronaldo rant one of the days ed, too lazy right now to mine the stats all over again. But some time during the week I'll do my best to change your mind

{Ed025's Note - go for it sheeny, i would not hold your breath on me changing my mind though mate...cos even when in wrong im right.. :)

Thierry Henry: "I would love to see Arsenal win the Champions League. Whether that is from near or far does not depend on me, but it is sure I'd like to help. This is my club and, as a player, I was not able to give them the Champions League"

Got to love his attitude, he still feels like he owes us!!

His loyalty is incomparable; Henry admitted that when David Dein left Arsenal, he knew it was time to move on. Wenger also (allegedly) offered to resign in support for the former vice-chairman Dein, only for Dein to say the club need him too much. I miss seeing the whole organisation so dedicated to the club and each other. Anyone remember the invincibles inventing the post-match huddle?

Can't give any credence to Benzema rumours as we have resigned Giroud and bought Welbeck for a high price - just noise!

That said it hasn't stopped us from having a half dozen tiny CAM's.

Maybe that is the future for Arsenal under AW, 4 CF's 4 tiny CAM's and 3 fullbacks in the back - no point in getting balanced this late in the season ;-))

Believable0 Unbelievable0

OK we have just won 2 on the bounce and 2 clean sheets that were achieved with much more disaplined performance's than at any time this season.
OK it isn't the stuff we dreamed of in the summer but let's get behind the whole team including Arsene between now and February as he can do little to address his mistakes until the January has been and gone.
Make your banners buy all meeans but hold your fire until the widows closed and if no DM or CB's arrive again then Arsene deserves ball he gets imo.
We are in the CL knockouts again and with a good window who knows we might shock a few people including ourselves and have a top 3 PL and last 4 CL season
