As if we don't have enough injured players, we now have taken to signing them! One has to question Wengers sanity.

Yesterday kallstrom was a complete over the hill waste of time signing, today the fact he was injured when we bought him hurts our chance of success this season.
Dont get me wrong I'm as baffled as every one why we would loan anyone on a short term basis that's out for half that loan period already
But in the grand scheme of it all it doesn't change our situation from what it was Friday morning.
A very strange situation but not really relevant to our chances either way.

is it only us that sign these glass players, I saw an interesting stat that we win the injury league week in week out and year in year out

well I was of the opinion KK wasn't going to be good enough for arsenal but was happy to be proved wrong

said a little prayer last night asking why and will he be good enough? maybe I got my sign :(

oh well sorry to say it lads but we're back at the drawing board so we going to have to do it the hard way

so let's be avin you tomorrow and I want passion and shouting singing from the fans, and a sweet passing game and a win to nil result

i'd like us out of sight by half time to rotate players

but i'll take 1-0 if that's what it has to be, just win lads

and bring on the draw monday or a chelsea win (spits on the floor)

in a bad place right now. completely lost my faith in wenger :(

i know I shouldnt, I even read that big german article on how its ARSENE FC, and everything and was proud.

but he's destoyed that faith with me now.

i don't like spending for the sake of it, but we wouldn't be if we won something, we might not win by spending, but we won't by not.

arsene to me now seems like his new signing, the stuff of legends, if he was on a certain football management game.

My girlfriend couldn't understand why I was so frustrated yesterday, and kept telling me it's only football what does it matter. I grew tired of her complaining and decided I would show her exactly what it felt like. All week she had been excited to go out for dinner at the latest s****y restaurant in town, her friends were envious we had got a reservation, she got all dolled up and we left. On the way I kept bringing up the price and my annoyance at the cost. As we got closer she points out, that we are going the wrong way, I said there has been a change of plan, as a parked the car, the look of absolute disappointment when she saw we were at McDonalds was priceless and I exclaimed this is what it was like for me yesterday all that build up and then total let down. But in true Wenger style I did managed to get our food for 99p a fraction of the price that food at the restaurant would of cost me, and having saved all the money felt great. So I guess you could say it was a learning experience for us both. I am of course joking if I did this Kallstrom signing would be the least of my worries.

That is so weird, for a minute there I thought we were in 7th place on 40 points with some clueless ginger prince in charge of us and our Stella signing had failed to inspire us to defeat Stoke City.

Then thankfully I saw Flybo's name and realised I was home and that despite an ongoing injury list we remain a solitary point behind the USS Nimitz and her world class crew.

Then it occurred to me, just out of the blue really, what if we had the best defence in the premiership, a goal keeper back in form and TV5 has remained a gunner.

Then and you won't believe this as I'd completely forgotten, we've got Ozil, Santi, Wilshere and Rosicky in our midfield helping their mate Giroud with some goals.

Geez guys, it's not like last year where we all gave the league away, it's proper bloody difficult to win it this season and most of us will be chuffed with 3rd.

I know the window was pants and so does every man and his dog but these boys have and will step up, you play these big games on adrenalin as well as fitness, Oscar wasn't tired last year when he played god knows how many games for Chelsea.

And please judge Arsene after the next summers window when he will have added the last pieces. If he fails then there really will be no place to hide.

I'm all for believing in my team and the quality throughout it, they'll have to tough it out and stay in touch through these next two months and I really do believe better than 3rd is still possible.

Go jenny!

Agree0 Disagree0

Good positive post Jenny. I had a similar experience. I dreamt we had a s**t load of cash and on the brink of buying in a position of strength one of the most exciting young talents in Europe. Add to that that particular player wanted to come to us.

Unfortunately I woke up to find we pulled out and bought an injured player to replace our injured players. I'm now left slightly disappointed we didn't buy a replacement for the injured player we bought to replace the injured players, and we didn't bring in a striker. Oh well, at least Bendtner will be back shortly.

God I wish I could get back to sleep :-)

and also eisfeld might get a game if he was'nt loaned out or is also injured or in the bad books or to young or not stong enough or from the wrong part of germany or.

Following our signing KK, there is a real negativity around the forum.

I thought I'd try and move the conversation away from that.

So, has anyone else noticed that Nacho Monreal looks a bit like Peter Crouch?

Anyone else think of our current squad that looks like another footballer or someone famous?

hi

signing ozil made every one step up the gear and the whole team played up to the top level. AW has now done totally the opposite, at the most crucial part if the season, he has got an injured player, but has not played football for more than 80 days. He was playing beach football. Now I do fear, we are on a tight leash. If giroud gets injured then what?

why he did that? is he not renewing his contract. may be it certainly a possibility. He has not signed anything yet, or has he. May be there is a big offer from Monaco or PSG. don't know what he is thinking.

it sucks man! why everytime these things come up for Arsenal. makes u feel. man I can't explain . u all know how does it feel?

I wanted to post last night but thought it would be too emotive.

Today I feel worse.

Southampton away made me realise we do not have a manager with drive and ambition, despite what he says in press conferences. 2 - 2 game to be won and he brings on Podolski in the 89th minute.was that to get the £5 subs off him. Ridiculous, a goal scorer, a shot taker and in form from the Coventry game.

We do not buy anyone in the January window. Dick Law and his cronies in Germany and do f### all out there.

We then get an aging, injured midfielder on loan. What in damnation is going on? Has dementia set in? Will AW have two pencils up his nose, pants on head and saying "wibble" tomorrow on the bench.

Time for a younger, ambitious and hungry manager to come in who wants to win games and has a plan B when needed during a game. Also needs to have big gonads so his first sacking/signing will be the medical staff.

I love my Arsenal and have done for 48 years but patience and trust in the manager has now gone.

Rant over.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Mate,

I know your post was serious and from the heart but I'm so sorry, I can't stop laughing at the "Will AW have 2 pencils up his nose, pants on head and saying "wibble" tomorrow on the bench.

Love it.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree with you about Wenger and the medical staff, but in draxlers defence his team wouldn't let him move, been confirm in the German press

Agree0 Disagree0

Boys you all know me by now I'm not going to say this if it wasn't 100%. Draxler WAS ready to sign it was Wenger that decided to get him on the cheap at the last knockings and the deal got shelved with hours to go. Wenger wouldn't meet the buy out clause but he let the negotiations run there course. Schalke wouldn't let Draxler go because Wenger didn't want to pay the money at the last minute. Now whether we were ready to sign him for him to join in the summer I didn't get told that part but that's the story.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Its getting more like a carry on film every day

Agree0 Disagree0

Nuts, we sign a player on loan until the end of the season, who will be out of action whilst Ramsey & Flamini are out! We needed a 4th centre back and a striker. We get a 31 year old injured player on loan! Desperate.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Feb 2014 17:18:16
Absolutely astounded that we bought an injured player, already knowing he was injured and agreeing to pay for his treatment, to cover for injuries and suspension when he will be out for longer than the injured and suspended will be.

Absolutely astounded. No words can describe this. If we fall away and don't win the league there is only 1 man to blame.

QUESTION

Why hasn't Arsene signed his contract yet? We have heard them say "we will announce when the time is right." What I want to know is, when is the right time?

If Arsenal had announced the renewel after the villa game and before the Özil signing, it would have gone down like a fart at a funeral, but since then they have had ample opportunity to announce it. Being top of the table flying high for the last few months, you would have thought that would have been the ideal time to announce Arsene's renewel, amidst a wave of positivity about the direction of the club?

Don't want to come across negative here, but say for example February and March turns in to an absolute disaster for us. Then when would be the 'right time' to announce his renewel? The club would want any announcement to be deemed as a positive thing and welcomed by the vast majority of the fans. It would be difficult to pick 'the right time' if we were out of the cup competitions, and were floundering in the league.
It's all very confusing. Or quite obvious?

Thoughts?

Wenger's behaviour has been extremely strange. He won't sign his contract. He wouldn't buy players and whinged about the window. He now signs an injured player, to cover injured players in the midfield where we have lots of options! I believe he is off at the end of the season.

Agree0 Disagree0

Think he knows he's off in the summer, no signing, no success.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Feb 2014 14:27:51
If I remember rightly I think one of the eds commented that there is going to be big changes at the club. Just a quick question. When is Wenger going to sign his contract? Comments like "we're waiting for the right time." When is 'the right time?' At the beginning of the season after the loss to villa and before the Özil signing, if Wenger had announced a renewel of his contract it would have gone down like a fart at a funeral, but as the season has gone on there has been ample opportunity to announce a renewel with us being top of the table, you'de think it would of been announced amidst a period of positivity.

Don't want to get all negative, but if say we have a disastrous February and March. When exactly is 'the right time' going to be, without the negativity that the club obviously won't want when announcing a renewal of Arsene's contract? It's all very confusing. Or very obvious.

Thoughts?

At least Manu, Everton and the spurs are all losing at half time.

Really hope we get our game going again tomorrow against a much improved Palace side, a really good performance and result would soon pick our spirits up and put us back on top of the pile.

Followed by a nice boring draw on Monday night which would see us stay top a point ahead of city and 4 clear of Chelski.
We could then look back at the Southampton game and think! We've had worse weeks

Believable0 Unbelievable0

01 Feb 2014 15:49:38
Kim Kallstrom has injured himself in his first training session with the club. It's a back injury - early reports suggesting 2-3 months out seem exaggerated.

It just gets better and better. No problem with Kallstrom looks a solid player with a good rep for dead ball goals but what price might we pay for messing up signing Higuain in the summer and failing to bring in a quality striker to help out Giroud?

Last few games we have looked tired, always second to the ball and barely turning up in the first half of a match. A big signing would have raised the spirits of both the fans and the players.

The interview with Kallstrom on the Arsenal website is very telling

Interviewer: "Can you tell us about the loan deal and how it came about?"
Kallstrom: "Yesterday I was in Abu Dhabi with Spartak Moscow and I got a phone call asking if I would like to go to Arsenal on loan for a few months. I thought ‘Absolutely, why not?’"

Sounds like a long planned move to strengthen then. What the hell are the back room staff responsible for scouting and securing players being paid for and as an aside why is Diaby still on our books how much has he been paid per hours actually played it must be a record.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

01 Feb 2014 15:37:22
Obviously not the most satisfying window. I am particularly worried about the CF situation. Even if Giroud doesn't get injured, he's going to get tired playing every game and won't be at his best. If Giroud does get injured, we don't have very reliable options. Bendtner has his moments but we know he isn't a player we can rely on. And, although Poldi is a top player and should play more, I don't think he's really a CF. Sanogo seems talented but is also a gamble to rely on, being something of an unknown quantity. This is the one thing that concerns me and I don't understand why we didn't invest.

BUT

I'm going to generally have to agree with those such as the most honorable G62: we have our disappointments, but it's not quite so bad as we think and we just need to get behind the team again.

Those saying "same old Wenger" about this window are not completely right. Yes - some bad habits of his were on show, notably being overly frugal and leaving everything to the last minute. But our transfer policy has changed over the last few windows, and Wenger is no longer a predictable figure in the market. In 2012/13 we made three first team signings of over £10m (Podolski, Grioud, Cazorla) and sorted these out well before the end of the window. Then in January Wenger recognised Santos' shortcomings and re-invested with Monreal (he hadn't done that kind of thing for a while; he normally waits for the worse player to leave). Then last summer he almost tripled our transfer record for a world class player. This is the first really disappointing window in a while, I guess Wenger is being conservative as we are doing well this season.

Also, the whole 'Kallstrom in stead of Draxler' thing - I don't think it's quite like that. Draxler is being courted as a major investment, Kallstrom is more to make up numbers with our midfield problems. I'm not too bothered about this issue because, and I might get shot down for this, I don't think we really need too much reinforcement in that area. I would have been very happy with a proper DM, and I will be over the moon if we get Draxler in the long run, but I don't think we really need another attacking/creative midfielder right now. So I kind of see Kallstrom as a little boost; he will be a decent squad player who will help in terms of numbers. There are better players like him out there, but we don't need to break the bank for them right now.

So - underwhelming? Yes. A bit worrying? Yes. But let's keep this in perspective - we still have a great side and in spite of injury problems we are still doing very well. We need to stay behind the team and keep up the fantastic support, as seen in away matches and at the Emirates.

Not posted for a while but after another poor window does anyone else get the impression that Ozil was signed just to keep the fans happy.(post villa game fan reaction) At that time in the summer we NEEDED a striker and still do desperately if we really want to contend. Roll on to the January window and yet again no striker. We lose Giroud to the growing injury list it will be another 3rd/4th place scrap

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Do you really believe AFC would spend 42 million - without weeks of preparation and research?
MO was targeted as the buy in the window- there may have been others but he was the big one we went for.
If you look around - almost all the so-called targets during the summer window have turned out to be either Kak or were always going somewhere else.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ozil was anything but planned.

It was forseeable that Madrid would sign Bale - whomever real decided would be deemed surplus was up for debate, it just happened to be Ozil. We could just have well bought Di Maria or Benzema.

Come on you gooners, think about the quality
Mr Wenger has traditionally brought in this window?
Alison Arshavin, got to love the lazy little s.
Emmanuel Couldnt' hit a barn door
Carlos Vela
Abou Diaby, "he will be like a new signing"
Guillaume Warmuz, whoo. I mean, actually who?

I think its running at about 50/50, some stinkers and some top top quality as well.!
TW( although he didn't play until the next season)
Jose Reyes
Eboue

So I guess when considering the context, we were most likely to end up feeling this way, the season isn't over, ManC might have a wobble.
Final thought, Aaron is now sidelined with a compound injury, most likely brought about by coming back too soon, this highlights the major flaw with the clubs philosophy, not enough quality in the ranks, key players play too many matches, so, we need the quality in depth to sustain an assault on the title, I think we constantly punch well above our weight, enjoy your 24 million 3 year deal Mr Wenger

Ok the silly season is over and we haven't got what we would have liked from it, but that's not so unusual for us.
What is different is we are right up there contending and surely that's what matters more in the grand scheme of things.
If I was our manager I would have bought a striker but I'm not and we have to get over our disappointment and behind the team again.
Arsene will be our manager next season and we will all still be Gooners so let's try and enjoy what is our best season for years, we have some fantastic games coming up and rather than worry about them let's try and enjoy being right in the mix again.
PS
This is a post to remind myself as much as anyone else that things are actually going really well this season

For some unknown reason, we didn't buy a striker. Sad to say, but I don't think we have what it takes to stop the Manchester City Juggernaut

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I don't think anyone has enough to stop them this season.

I really hope Podolski steps up to the plate and given the chance to play up top more he will score goals.

We have Santi scoring again now and Giroud keeps putting them away.

Deadline day was not what we all hoped, but I truly believe Draxler will come in the summer and a top class striker too.

Chins up everyone

Wenger, you've blown it. To have any chance of keeping up with man city, we needed to sign a quality striker and winger. I know that is not easy in january but should've pushed on with the draxler deal and got in vucinic. Its now a race for second.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

To be fair - in order to keep up with MAN City, we would have to buy three world class strikers two wingers, two more world class midfield players, 5 top international defenders a couple of goalkeepers and a full set of new accountants who can prove that losing 50 odd million a year is actually a very healthy business practice.

Well that was s**t, annoying, predictable, frustrating, insert your word here. Let's be honest the crime wasn't not signing a striker in this window. It was not signing a striker in the summer.

What adds to the misery is when you find out that for one moment the club thought to itself "Kalou could do a job for us." Please!

As far as Kallstrom is concerned he is now an Arsenal player. I will support him and judge him as I do every other player, on what he does on the pitch. I just hope that if there are any negative feelings around the stadium about the window, it is directed at the powers that be and not the player. It isn't his fault.

37m for a player is a sh*t load of money for someone so young, and Arsene rightly or wrongly has decided against it. I just hope time will not come back to bite us on the bum. Ronaldo 12m? a bit too much for potential. Hazard two seasons before he went to chavski, 30m? We'll leave it thankyou. Mata 26m? Let me think about it. Then think about it a bit more. Hmm, emm. Oh he's gone!
"Ok Arsene if you don't agree that the price matches your valuation of the player then you have the final say. What's that? You've seen a Brazilian left back called Santos for 6.5m? Well you know what your doing.
Are you sure the Dane deserves 52k a week? OK it's down to you.
You've high jacked a transfer that was nearly completed! Nice one Arsene. Usually it's us who get done over at the last minute, what's his name? Park! Well he must have something if you've pulled a fast one."

Do we know where Arsene begins and Arsenal ends? There needs to be that David Dein element where you say "Give me your list of players in order of importance and we'll do the rest. You just coach the players and dedicate your time and effort on the training pitch. Yes Arsene I know all about APR!"
But that ship has sailed. Wenger will leave when he decides to. I'm not saying I want him out because I don't. It's just I don't like one individual having so much control over the club. It's never healthy, whether it's the Owner, Manager or Player.
IN ARSENE WE WAIT AND SEE? I hope he gets it right.

Well I've got that off my chest. It's over now, back to the important stuff. The football.

I agree

But why wait until the last minute to get some players in.
The targets should have been identified at least by November / December.
Again Arsene you have shown your weakness in the transfer market.
All we can do is keep our fingers crossed for no more injuries.

But we got what we got. so its 100% behind the team.
Lets beat the Palace on Sunday and hope Chelsea get a result at City so we stay top

Well said totally agree, he's written his own death warrant if we suffer up front and he's had 2 windows to fix it he can have no excuses but let's get behind the team, I pray to god no booing

Great post flybo exactly my thoughts and how I felt. Thanks for getting that off my chest too. COYGs

To be fair we met Mata and Hazards valuations but they chose Chelski because of their astronomical wage offers. I don't think anything has changed with this window, no panic buying and a top 4 finish. Next season we will start with another top top quality striker and then we will really be in the mix!

morning, As frustrating as it is I think the January window has proven how hard it can be to sign quality players, the fact is we could have signed players like Klose etc, but would this be better than we have? just look at Man U, yes mata is a quality player but £37 million is so over priced that's the only reason Chelsea accepted they knew no other club valued him at that. I think this was probably the case with draxler because he is one of the top talents available and no other club put a bid in I think that says everything about an over priced January window. I feel in January a loan only approach from all clubs would be more of a benefit for emergency cover rather than to unsettle teams challenging of fighting the drop and make it a level playing field leaving the summer for the real trading. fact is it's been a frustrating transfer period for all Look at Liverpool Even man city struggled today, in a way no one has significantly improved apart from united but it's to little to late.

In agreement there mate!

Agreed, not the best transfer window.

We are all like little children at Christmas, hoping to unwrap the biggest and best present, but we end up with an action man with a dodgy haircut, gripping hands and eyes that makes him look like he's been smoking pot for a fortnight.

Gents, I posted a while ago that Bendtner will have a part to play this season, a lot of you laughed at me, and that's understandable, but I'm going to stick with my prediction.

Come the end of the season, I think Bendtner, the greatest striker in the world, will score us some valuable goals and win us some valuable points. Points, that could end up with us winning something.

Maybe I have been smoking the same stuff the aforementioned action man has been smoking but, I posted the Bendtner prediction over a month ago and i'm going to stick with it.

Feel free to laugh at me if it doesn't come true but I have a funny feeling in my stomach that Nik could be the man this season.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He already has scored a couple and you never know it could come down to those goals if its us vs chelsea in the rundown
(if its goal diff vs citeh then we are beeeped)

A few weeks or so ago I asked the Eds for s poll on how many goals NBendtner would get this season as I thought he's still got a part to play and I was told that he wouldn't be here long enough to get another game!!

We might have signed someone else too, you can announce a transfer whenever you want as long as you can prove it was before the transfer window ends. A signing could be announced when we play Crystal Palace, you never know, all I can do is hope :-). Kallstrom is actually pretty good, I have seen him play a few times for club and country.
If there are no new signings (other than Kallstrom), hopefully we won't regret it at the end of the season

I'm glad that's over with now. I think people are being very pessimistic about things right now, like because we have gone and spent £20-£30million on a player it means that we've thrown our season away? I'll admit I was hoping that we bought a striker but let's be honest whoever we bought would be giroud's understudy and with the World Cup on the horizon players don't want to play second fiddle, it works both ways though because if we bought a world class striker then giroud would be dropped so he would risk his World Cup spot, it's all swings and roundabouts. The point I'm making is that yes our only other recognised striker is NB52 but the strikers available would be the same as him so no ta lol

Let's give ol' kimmy our support aye? I've never seen him play before but I've heard and red some good things about him, hugely experienced on all levels so I'm happy. Plus people saying "he can't be that good if spartak let him go" well look at michu, £2mill they paid for him so who's the person lol?

Peace out, COYG!
