A question for raver to ponder in his rusty death trap: Do you want Arsenal to beat Chelsea?

Believable4 Unbelievable2

01 Feb 2017 21:12:12
Rusty death trap? lol, the Subaru is purring RG. driving through bond street today with the sound system pumping so loud the shop windows were vibrating. On the Chelsea game on Saturday, yes I do want you to win so you can help out your mighty neighbours. RG I hate Chelsea more than your boys as they are a false club who's bought titles.

I reckon I could win the league with the cheque book Chelsea have had plus I could have kept the physio happy.

That's true Ed025.

It's normally 'Raver' followed by an expletive 😎

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Feb 2017 05:30:46
Raver is sadly deluded he is Toot fan who wants Arsenal to win and drives a rusty Suburb! Thankfully I chose to be born a gooner and drive a Pirsche 911. As raver well knows, the pain at the lane just goes on.1961 and waiting.

Agree6 Disagree5

02 Feb 2017 10:59:19
The only thing rusty is your club R. G. gone from being s to fighting for fourth every year, we now have more chance of winning the league than your club now says it all, even all the sky pundits said last week that spurs are better than arsenal now. So R. G. if spurs was playing Chelsea on Saturday you would want them to lose and that means Arsenal are fully out of the title race can't be right. Also what car is a pirsche does it mean a posh word for Porsche lol I bet you are one of those arsenal fans at the match eating prawn sandwich's and reading the guardian

Agree3 Disagree3

02 Feb 2017 15:32:25
Oh dear raver, believing pundits! Gary Neville tried his hand at managing and we all know happened. Which pundit redacted Leicester would win the PL last season? So far this season Arsenal have gone further in the CL and the League Cup. We are equal on points in the PL. I am not a Guardian reader, I read The Telegraph. Which paper do you read? Can you all remind us when was the last time that the Toot finished above their superior North Lond neighbours? You still haven't listed the trophies won by the Toot in your lifetime and we all know why. As you well know the pain at the lane just goes on.1961 and waiting.

Agree2 Disagree7

02 Feb 2017 18:24:17
You can go further in every competition R. G. but if you are not winning anything then there's nothing to brag about, I'm a daily sport reader R. G. Stocks and shares don't interest me only gorgeous women lol

{Ed025's Note - its bad for your eyesight all that lark raver.. :)

It might be bad for the eyesight but it certainly gets the ravers blood pumping lol

I can't help but think that Wengers touch line ban could have been a perfect opportunity for him to step back and let Steve Bould have total control for the 4 games, from training through to picking the team. Would have been a perfect "job interview" opportunity for Bould to show if he is capable of replacing Wenger, assuming he would want the role of course!

Believable0 Unbelievable2

01 Feb 2017 21:02:51
Now he would be the cheap option. For me he was always the one who did as hewas told on the pitch, not barking the orders and all I see is a wenger lap dog at the moment. I could name lots of ex players I would want as manager before bould, whom i'd see as a manager. Only my opinion.

Agree1 Disagree1

01 Feb 2017 23:35:50
Got a lot of respect for Bouldy but primarily as a player, much less so as a coach. He doesn't seem vocal at all on the touchline and I doubt he has what it takes to cut it in top tier management. It's sadly so often the case that a good second-in-command can't quite make that jump.

Take the example of someone like Mike Phelan - even with all the troubles Hull have faced that led Steve Bruce to walk out, I can't help but feel Phelan is sadly much better as the deputy than the sheriff. Same goes for Bouldy in my eyes.

I think for years we have used the excuse of not spending the coin not been decisive etc. But I have finally come to the conclusion that regardless of the team over the past 10 years it's always top 4! So if we compare our teams to cars we have had a vw golf and Wenger drove it at 60 and finished in the top 4 then he had a lada and still drove it at 60 (rattling and falling to bits ) but still finished in top 4.

now we appear to have a super car and it's still been drove at 60. Let's hope there is a decent available driver for next years race who will put there foot down and floor that f-in car round in third doing 90. Still has to be the right driver though but god I do hope that guy is found sooner rather than later

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Feb 2017 19:35:45
True story, a few years ago i knew someone who bought a brand new car and paid fortunes for a leather interior upgrade, it looked great. The next time i saw him he'd put seat covers on, to keep them clean.

Agree1 Disagree0

01 Feb 2017 19:44:21
It's not going to get better dags! But unlike others who would have anyone to replace him just to get him out and others who think it's a bright idea that we finished out of the top 4 in a death then rebirth type scenario I personally call for people to be sensible.

We need a decent driver (and no not rainman even though he's a real good driver ) and we can't be in a situation where David moyes comes in or a caretaker manager. The club made a huge mistake letting klopp go to Liverpool without asking what he wants then giving him what he wants. We need a manager who has competed at the top and has worked with big name players.

We need to clear out the dead wood and also a few who are taking far too long to get up to their potential . Ramsey, mert, the ox, chambers, jenko, Gibbs and maybe even Walcott! Now ox and Walcott are playing ok at the moment but we all know they blow hot and cold! Surely we will get 100+ for them. Need to buy not just 1 top player but 2-3 in the summer.

We need a better left back and cover at rb! Lose mert and get another CB that's ready . Then we need a kante like Steve has pointed out matudi or someone like that. Then we need a greizman, reus, isco, aubameyang, lewandowsi Kroos. A couple from that list as well. Also quality youth players like Julian Brandt who I believe is available. People like alaba god there's loads out their. We need a good sort out

For me Ramsey has to go he is terrible gets the ball and spins around to much get him out! And I can't beleave he didn't play the ox in the middle after he was outstanding in the cup I was 100% behind Wenger now Iam slowly going against him we had a great chance of winning the league this year and it's gone again

As long as Ngolo Kante is playing in the premier league and not for us, then the League title will elude us.

Steve many of us would have loved him here but ed02 has stated on a number of occasions he was going nowhere other than Chelsea so there was never a chance he was coming here unfortunately.

Agree3 Disagree0

01 Feb 2017 19:16:58
Stoner, i'm sure ed 02 is correct but in feb last year henry winter said kante was wengers no 1 target and he was certain we would get him. Since then something obviously happened because the only player to leave Leicester of note was kante, we didn't put up much of a fight and we ended up paying more money for xhaka early in the transfer window, i think ( and it is my opinion ) wenger chose xhaka over fighting for kante. Again opinion but winter is still adamant that we could have got kante at some stage. Something changed.

Agree1 Disagree1

01 Feb 2017 19:28:02
I hadn't heard about the comments from Winter Steve, I did also hear that Mourinho made a determined effort to get him to move to United it was just Kante wanted Chelsea and only Chelsea.

Not sure what his attraction was to them in particular but he clearly couldn't be dissuaded.

Cracking player and would have been great here. As for Xhaka he has a lot to prove on all fronts for me.

Oh dear raver a draw at one from bottom club Sunderland to draw level on points with us and your bigginf it up. Tell us the last time the Toot finished ahead of us in the league. The pain at the lane just goes on. 1961 and waiting.

Agree2 Disagree0

01 Feb 2017 10:43:52
Extremely irritatingly Wenger is commenting that Arsenal failed to compete physically last night. A little word of advice to Mr Wenger, you have to compete physically in order to win the PL. Our PL winning teams under Wenger could win the battles, with the likes of Keown, Adams, Vieira and even Bergkamp could leave his foot in. The moment any player shows a nasty streak at the club, Wenger condemns it. Against Burnley Xhaka had received a nasty foul from Dafour and the useless Jon Moss failed to book Dafour. The result was that Xhaka fouled Dafour and got sent off. Instead of backing Xhaka, Wenger made an idiotic comment that he isn't a great tackler and must try to stay on his feet and not tackle. He should have backed him and explained the reaction of Moss's failure to book Dafour earlier. Now Xhaka won't tackle or compete physically. We have ended up a team of pansies. I always remember people saying Scholes couldn't tackle! Of course he could, he just clobbered opponents who then wouldn't mess with him or other United players, I believe Wenger has allowed the team to become soft with the likes of Walcott, Ozil, Iwobi, Bellerin, Ox, etc rarely showing a physical side to their game.

Believable4 Unbelievable7

01 Feb 2017 14:03:34
You went missing yet again R. G. I told you that you are going nowhere, we managed a crap draw last night and still went above you. You have zero chance against Chelsea as you always go missing in the big games

Agree3 Disagree3

01 Feb 2017 14:31:51
Rg the club is rotten to the core with attitudes that are not what a top club should have. The mentality of the team and club is and has been for years, "cozy". Wenger has nobody to answer too the board love him for his attitude. Sky have a video showing the players warming up, what a disgrace, they really
look focussed, not. Last summer we
needed a center back a holding
midfielder and a striker minimum, with
the exception of mustafi, the others have
had no impact on the team at all. Cech
hasn't had the affect we all hoped,
injuries still blight the squad, the team is
il dissaplined, we have no leaders, we
have no trusted shape to the team and everything is done in the heat of the moment. Wengers decision making and player buying is very questionable. Ozil and Sanchez want a pay rise, IF they get it, in the present set up what exactly are we paying for because we aren't going to stump up and all of a sudden become a championship capable winning team, we don't have the players, the manager or the nous to achieve it.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Feb 2017 14:48:11
Rg xhaka can't compete or tackle, the guy is a waste of space. Rash, petulant and not good enough. 35 mil he cost, what a waste of good money. he's an embarrassment.

Agree2 Disagree3

01 Feb 2017 15:55:49
We've had this before with xhaka so I won't go too into it. Don't believe he is a waste of space. Think he'll be one a good player for us. However if he isn't by next season then I hold my hands up and say I'm wrong. Really believe it's about time we stop waiting for players to reach their potential. So many players in our squad are stuck on that potential level if that makes sense but honestly how long can you wait!

Agree0 Disagree4

01 Feb 2017 15:50:04
Just look at Sanchez . Smallest guy in the pitch and the hardest to get the ball off without giving a foul away. I think that's why he's pissed off! He knows there's only three or four winners in that team. And for me it's mustafi, kos, cech and Sanchez. All 4 can up tempo when there against it! Cech is actually better when his goal is raided

Agree3 Disagree0

01 Feb 2017 16:38:59
D16, you don't pay 35 mil for a player and hope he comes good. Poor addition to the team, when he can ever play.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Feb 2017 17:54:01
I still think there's a lot of quality with him but unfortunately it's not been shown enough. I do feel you're being over critical of him. But that's just my opinion. I quite like the xhaka elneny partnership tbh

Agree1 Disagree0

01 Feb 2017 18:09:57
I'm hoping we sell ozil instead of keeping him I can't remember any matches that he's done something to prevent us from loosing he's not delivered in the matches that count if rather play iwobi or on in the no 10 role Is was clear last night we need proper players with a fighting mentality I've come to realise as the season has gone along that we neee another holding player as Ramsey, xhaka, elneney are not good enough yes there great squad players but not stating material even coquelin got manhandled by capoue

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Feb 2017 19:08:08
D16, you quite like the xhaka elneny partnership based on what, i think they have played together once, elneny is a rare starter, xhaka couldn't get a game for months, at the moment xhaka is disqualified, elneny is injured and neither are really stand out players. For next season, if its them two we are doomed, they aren't even close to the standard needed. I just can't see what your optimism about them is based on, except a hunch.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Feb 2017 19:18:37
Imired agreee with that 100%.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Feb 2017 20:01:54
Maybe I'm wrong but I swear they played more. And like I've said I don't think xhaka is as bad as you're making out. Granted I still expect more from him, do really believe He'll become a very good player for us. But can see your side of it. Saying that do you believe these games are being lost in the middle of the park? Obv there's more too it but what do you feel the main problem is? Other than arsene πŸ˜‚

Agree1 Disagree0

01 Feb 2017 20:58:04
No I don't think we are losing it in the middle, we are losing it all over. Our defence flatters to decieve, our midfield lacks power, we don't have out and out wingers in the squad to start or come on. Our strike force ( that is better than the invincibles ) again, flatters to decieve. I put it all down to the set up of the team and our shape with and without the ball. I have said it before, our game management without the ball is awful and sometimes not as good as that. I ask people do we really have that steely eyed determination and will to win that's needed. Personally I don't see it. I still believe, wenger now is not capable of taking this club any further. We do so many brilliant things but we also do so many shoddy things as well. Of all the players who wenger bought in the last two years ( he says he only buys player to improve the team ) the only one who I think has improved us and better than what we had is mustafi. Xhaka, elneny, gabrial, perez, debuchy, cambell etc for me are/ were squad players.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Feb 2017 22:12:29
Very good post that Steve. It does seem to be all over. Obv as you know I do like to defend arsene but it's getting hard. We do look poor all over at times. But the back we have bellerin mustafi kos Monreal and cech behind them.

That really should be good enough to do better then we seem to do. Maybe that's down to the mentality. It's just so frustrating all this. And as for no out and out wingers I think you said. What about Iwobi? Thought he was trying s lot harder than most

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Feb 2017 22:20:05
steve i agree with you on most things but a certain henry took 3 seasons to get as good as he was and van persie also so give xhaka a chance he could be our next santi

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Feb 2017 23:06:02
Is iwobi an out and out winger, he likes to come inside too much? I mean a flying machine who can take players on and put crosses in from the bye line. Not our style I know but maybe that's another problem. I like iwobi by the way just a bit to learn yet.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Feb 2017 09:00:43
Yea I see what you mean Steve. I think he's the most winged player we've got if that makes sense but he does cut in and has a lot to learn. I also feel Perez should be given a run. 6 goals and 6 assists with him hardly playing it could be interesting. Main thing for me is Alexis starting up top. I like giroud but that was working so well and when it wasn't giroud was coming on getting important goals

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Feb 2017 16:12:48

Evening gents disappointing to say the least. Was shocked by giroud starting he can't start st the bridge need Bellerin starting aswell. Missed our chance tonight worried about Sanchez leaving I love ozil but feel he's replaceable. Perez for me needs to start with Sanchez up top. Need to keep going and win our matches see where we end up. Bayern is our cup final now need a run in champions league because league is over God hopes Sutton don't turn us over otherwise I fear our club can become so so toxic. Always a gooner but feel very very disheartened tonight dags please cheer me up!

Depressing result, as we could have closed the gap between us and Chelsea by 2 points. Yes, we should have played Bellerin and worried about the next matches. Instead we have lost against Watford and will struggle against Chelsea and Bayern. A forward line of Walcott, Sanchez and Welbeck should have started from the beginning. We missed my favourite deep midfield pairing of Xhaka and Elneny, not that we could have selected them last night. Yes, we need to retain Sanchez, at almost any cost. Ozil is different, as on his day he is superb, but can go missing. I am still to be convinced by our 4-2-3-1 formation. I have always been a great fan of a fluid 4-4-2 or 4-4-1-1 formation that was the system used during our most successful Wenger era. Indeed, I am also not a huge fan of a high pressing system with the defence pushing up high, as it leaves gaps in behind the d even explain for opponents to exploit. I feel we will struggle to finish top four and it may signal the end of Wenger's time at the club. He will state that he has taken the club as far as he can and will emerg at PSG. We need a top coach, certainly not Eddie Howe, who is a promising young manager, but Arsenal is a very different prospect to managing Bournemouth to avoid relegation.

Im not sure resting virtually every player does any good. Sanchez is clearly miffed if he doesn't play and every player should show this passion. The other problem is that some players had excellent matches at the weekend and then were dropped; Walcott, Ox and Welbeck. SAF at Man U, got it prefect, by keeping a core of players that rarely missed a match, whilst continually rotating the rest of the players. This kept the team fresh throughout the season.

Agree4 Disagree6

31 Jan 2017 22:58:06
So at the weekend we played maitland-niles, reine-Adelaide and the Ox in midfield with Perez and Welbeck and Walcott, and although against weak opposition the team had pace, movement and guile. Tonight we swap over to the so called first team consisting of coq, Ramsey and Ozil and were totally static and one dimensional. Maybe it's time to let a few of these so called first teamers move on to let the youngsters have a run? Can't do much worse surely?

Believable2 Unbelievable0

01 Feb 2017 14:39:54
Maybe we should play in the reserve league, we might win that. Southampton team was full of kids. Too much was made of it by wenger, on the strength of beating a bunch of kids about how good we are. We were fluid and fast but in the league this year we have looked ponderous and been very lucky in more than a few game. I said a few weeks back we are in a false position and if we don't up our performances we will pay and the Southampton game wasn't the game to judge.
