Sorry i don't agree with you but i just can't see the light, com on they arn't even trying they are the worst arsenal team i can remember. i have lost all faith in wenger because well just look at his signings gerviniho, oliver, podolski, we paid nearly 40 mil for these three? if we put them all together we wouldn't get one good one, two don't even try and the other runs like he has a dildo up his arse and has a touch like an elephant if you agree with me then you know witch players im talking about. sorry to say Wenger has lost total control of his team he can't seem to motivate them at all. this is the result in cashing in on our best players and now it's back firing, it will cost us double to try and get us anywhere near the old arsenal and maybe years. oh and Ramsey a 5 year contract for his shambolic effort for a year, yes we are going places is he our future REALLY.

hi guys, dissappointing result today. heat of the moment everyone is angry...

sagna had a shocker, today showed why we need to play two strikers cos as the ball was cleared whos there? 2 ft 2 theo! and it comes straight back we cant cross it in either, tbh i would have rested santi aswell. whats wrong with rosicky wenger? when giroud came on we pushed up as someone won the ball and brought people into play, theo up top on own doesnt work, he cant hold it up, it was just three weeks ago we were saying not bothered if he goes. i know you wont agree but he is hindering us right now as wenger thinks he needs to play CF and that means our inform good striker giroud cant play! comments welcome. we have been bad all season IMO and spurs aint doing too bad but i always fancy AVB too **** up soon so!!
just seems to be no balance, but theo upfront makes it hard, doesnt hold up and bring others into play i think him n giroud need to play together! or just giroud. The ox trys to do everything by himself also! and podolski is so slow, deary me! dissapointed in the subs too! sorry about the structure all sorts of rubbish going on in my head

Yorkshire Gooner Joe :D

P.S UNBEATEN THIS YEAR! we needed the win though with chelski n man c coming up spurs could be out of sight like ten points clear ... oh... wait......

Believable3 Unbelievable2

Good point made about Rosicky....shouldve brought him on as he opens up play and at least maybe got 1 or 2 deadly balls to theo or giroud....got it wrong by bringing on gerviniho, man that guy is bobbins! devongooner

I seriously can't believe some people on here. Expecting us to win every game, obviously we are going to draw/lose some games we are expected to win on our journey. You can't win every game, its not a 38 game season for nothing.

On a better not we are being heavily linked with adrian, ssn says we have made a £10m bid.

You see teams like Swansea pushing from the first minute. Us however it's jack to mikel to Santi to sagna to koscielny to shez and he boots it up to theo. what's the point he can't win a header against a CB. We need to have 2 strikers eg theo + giroud or get theo stilts.

There are very few out and out English wingers. Legacy of Sir Alf in '66 when he won the World Cup with his Wingless Wonders. All the coaching from then on has relied on wing-backs in the main to provide the width and get crosses in.

One major positive from today's game, mr Arsene Wenger didn't give any bs excuses saying the team was tired and put his hands up saying if we won that game then it would have been a major injustice to Southampton, also he says he will be active in January thats a positive sign, he gave his honest opinion today and didn't try to back which was today a shambolic team which saves himself from being embarrassed by the media. Nice one Wenger

We all do this I can almost guarantee it, you know the convince ourselves that we've turned a corner that the next game, the last game, the next four games, the summer window, the January window are all going to lead to us turning the corner and we're finally going to win something again.

Well from where I'm sat right now, I can see the sea, but that's not important right now, that corner is still a long long way down the road.

Jeez that game was so depressing. Why did I grow up to love football, why not women's beach volleyball!! I wouldn't give a toss if we lost as I'd still have a smile on my face.

A top striker is classed not only in way of goals but also the amount of pressure they put on the defenders, the runs, the link up play, all round game... At the moment Theo wont chase the defenders down, his link up play is ok, all round game... depends what mood he's in.. for me, for him to be a regular starter he needs to start watching over the old dvds of Mr Bergkamp, Mr Henry, see how they moved, they linked up, and got involved in the game at every opportunity.. if he can take note of how these LEGENDS played then he will be a force to be reckoned with, if not, then hes just another member of the money brigade... we need players to play for the shirt, not the pay packet!!

Hello Ed and fellow gooners. I think you would all agree that it was the most abysmal display which was not helped, once again, by the lack of tempo in our game and the one game plan tactics of AW. A lot of players had off days there today apart from Jack who gave 110% as always. The thing that annoys me more than anything is the substitution of the Ox and Santi for the two numbnuts who should not be allowed to wear an Arsenal shirt. Ramsey just cannot hack it in my opinion. I know some people use the excuse of his broken leg but that doesn't wash in my opinion. We now come to the person (I won't call him a footballer because of the trades description act) that cost ~Arsenal £11, 000.000! Apparently we watched Lille play on several occasions but did AW come back with Eden Hazard? No! Did he come back with Yohan Cabaye? No! He comes back with a person who I rank alongside Squillacci, Chamakh, Cygan, Stepanovs and a few others that I would term as major transfer disasters for this club. They would be more suited to a Sunday League side.
I stand by my opinion that we need a new manager as once again AW has come up short tactically. I have not listened to his post match press conference where he is no doubt using his number one excuse "lording our mental strength" for another below par performance apart from dodgy referreeing decisions that even most fans would admit have gone our way of late. I felt sorry for Walcott and Giroud because they had no service due to the poor display. Our two full backs especially Sagna were well below standard and in my opinion Sagna should never have replaced Jenkinson in the team. I feel better having got this rant off my chest but remain deeply disappointed.
Thanks for the site Ed.
The Heybridge Gooner.

Here comes the weird thing though. That season we scouted Lille and before the summer we bought Gervinho, this guy (and yeah i know its hard to believe) had a way better season than Hazard - actually Gervinho was phenomenal and helped Lille gain their first title in 50 something years. He scored 18 goals and made 11 assists. I totally agree that most of his play in Arsenal has been awful but i've watched a LOT of his games in France and on the national teams, where a Gervinho - full of confidence was using his opponents as training cones. I don't know what went wrong since though.

Back to reality boys and girls. I am not a football coach, but after about 20 mins i could see the team was not playing well. If it was Fergy, he would have made changes at half time ( i mean the right changes not Gervinho and Ramsey). It was in midfield where we lost the battle. I would have put Rosicky or Coquelin in place of Santi and push Jack/Arteta up. Perhaps Arsene needs to look at our winning ratio with and without Ramsey and Gervinho in the side. The Ox, Theo and Podolski must be allowed to change positions during the game. Why not play Djorou or Koscielny as a defensive midfielders in one or two games to give Arteta some rest or buy a left back and play Gibbs as a winger? After 20 mins it was evident that we would not create enough chances to score. How can we play through the wings, when our striker is not the tallest or good in the air? It is not all doom and gloom, but we certainly need to improve otherwise the gap to the top will continue to widen.

well what can you say - new year same sh*t, good game bad game, jekyll and hyde, whatever you want to call it, it needs to stop.
wenger got his tactics totally wrong today. as soon as the keeper was dropping the ball not once did we try to test him. walcott was our only forward, he is not the biggest but we were putting in crosses he had no chance of getting, he brings giroud on the hour and not one decent cross was put in - and to top it off he brings on gervinho and ramsey...it beggars belief! rosicky was ideal for this game, he would have linked the play much better than ramsey and gervinho. wenger stayed sitting on the bench all game and only got up in injury time to have a go at theos awful free kick, yet adkins was on the touchline all game, encouraging his players. bouldy seriously needs to start throwing his weight around or were gonna have a repeat of last year. the players need to focus every game and show conviction.
giroud is probably our best headerer and walcott is our fastest player, but we did not play to their strengths. the less said about sagna's performance the better, if he plays like that and has the gaul to say he wants to leave, i'll pay for his taxi. szecs was playing too risky and the rest of the defence looked shaky.
its obvious cazorla needs a rest (why doesnt he let rosicky fill the gap while santi recuperates or move arteta there and bring in coquelin) the ox and wilshere once again showed the fight that is needed to go to the next level. arteta was his usual quiet self keeping things simple. theo today was not at the races, podolski should have stopped on if we knew gervinho was gonna come on, and should have been used upfront with giroud to unsettle the keeper.
gervinho was embarrassing today, no conviction or confidence, if we can swap him in january it will be decent business - but i have a feeling he will be another squillaci chamack hanging around taking up squad space taking the money.
bad tactics bad substitutions cost us today. definitely need to raid the piggy bank mr wenger and spend big on quality

by the way luke shaw looked decent.

couple of things about tonights game.

15 minutes to go and chasing a win on come Ramsey and the vulcan.....not good enough.

Walcott, I've said in previous posts, you aint a centre forward. Far too inconsistent and I would not feel gutted to see him go unlike the cesc rvp departures.

Defence, all over the place, the 7 3 against the toon papered over the cracks.

We need a proper sort out fast. 4th place, no effin chance.

Recent results have papered over the cracks. If we are all honest we have not played well for a long time, just profited from good luck, poor defending and injuries to the teams we have played.

Regarding tonights game Sagna had his worst match in an Arsenal shirt and was truly awful. Gervinho, Sunday league standard best sums him up. Ramsay instead of Rosicky - why? Rosicky offers so much more.

We are off the pace and need to step up a level or two. When we had the ball in the final third the number of players being static was shocking, no movement. Unfortunately, I dont think we have the players with a winning mentality apart from Wilshire and Arteta. Also, the players also do not seem to be on the same wave length.

Solutions - give Sagna a contract he will sign or play Jenkinson? Add another top play maker - Sneijer, when Cazorla is not able to make the difference bring on someone who can? Bring in a striker who can score a goal out of nothing. Finally, change the formation - 4-4-2.

I would take el shaarawy instead of sneijder, as el shaarawy is more versatile

We need a cdm to push Arteta higher up. Hes a winner, and knows how to finish.

There are plenty of viable options:

Wanyama, Capoue, M'vila, Sissoko, Fellaini (would be a strecth)

Agree0 Disagree0

Spot On ! Little effort , poor passing ,
Jack excepted , sixes and sevens comes to mind with our defence. Little or no service for Theo. Sagna should have been replaced at half time. The Ox was inhibited being back at St. Mary's. Ramsey adds nowt and words (nearly) fail me regarding Geronimo. I've seen better players in the Conference South. Pathetic. Arsenal supporters have been fed on a diet of second or third rate players since 2005. Things must change. But I don't think the Board care less .They must be laughing all the way to their Old Etonian reunions. Don't expect major purchases. Wenger will make do ! Again !

Greetings and salutations my fellow Gooners!

Wow even as the most optimistic of Arsenal supporters I found it difficult to stomach that performance!

First of all good on Southhampton, if there is one club I respect it is theirs! Well played.

As for the match, a few quick observations:

1. Now that we've seen the highs and lows of Theo over the last fews days do we still feel his signing is of utmost importance? For myself I believe it is still important to retain our young players, however if he chooses to go I dont believe this will be our undoing.

2. Sagna was horrible. I believe his time at the club is coming to an end. I hope he is able to correct his performance and I look forward to seeing Jenkinson play the part going forward.

3. Rotation of squad. Im concerned that in a game where we lacked any opportunity that perhaps two of our most creativel midfielders (Rosicky/Arshavin) were not utilized. Instead we chose to bring on Gervinho (who's feet and judgement were very poor today) and Ramsey.

4. Defense, how many times we played for the offside flag was unbelievable. We have at least on paper good defenders but my oh my does our back four make me nervous!

I believe today was a blessing in disguise. I for one enjoyed the match against Newcastle but despite the 7 goal effort believed there was much to improve on. A match like today I hope will show the boss that there is a great need for squad improvement and as such he will be active during the transfer window.

Disappointing game from the goalie all the way to the forward.
Poor movement, poor passing, no passion and no pressing.
Can't believe we have played one game less over Xmas.
Needed to go 4 4 2 I think to trouble saints but we never really got the ball under control with 5 in midfield!
We needed a stronger bench to inject some creativity and edge to our game.
By the 75th minute Jack and Arteta were in the back 4, probably concerned Sagna would mess up or Gervinho would give the ball away.
We need to add something to the team, may be a blessing this performance. A wake up call as the window opens that we need a stronger squad.
Biggest concern - we would not have scored even if we played till 10 tonight!

We had a team that lucks of passion and flair, is not fair to blame individual players from the time the whole team doesn't perform AS A TEAM. luck of experience in the team prove to be the key factor that we play that bad today, no leadership and above all no character in the team anymore. we need at least 3 to 4 new players in the team, but who Arsene will buy as there is a stiff competition on the proven and rising stars available

Well played Southampton!! pressed us all the match. Just goes to show we have players who simply arnt up to it... Sagna, been quality for years, but recently seems to have gone off the boil, id sell him to PSG and bring in Debuchy. Gibbs on the left, tactically inept and the awareness of a one eyed sloth... id bring in Luke Shaw, great composure from a 17 year old. we do NEED a midfield enforcer.. for me this is a must, this way we can move arteta up the pitch and let him do his business there. Walcott brilliant last match, was no where to be seen tonight, if he wants to played up front he needs to sort himself out..

N. Wales Gunner

Believable6 Unbelievable0

He also needs service, tonight our midfield and that's the whole midfield were woefull, TV5 and Kos did ok, Sagna and Gibbs terrible, think Jenks should be given a go again, Tommy Rosicky has gotta get a go now surely

Agree3 Disagree1

Well, you can now see why Shaw is staying at Saints!
Thanks for your praise. We should have wrapped it up but a point gets us out of the bottom three and we now have Lallana and Clyne to come back into the squad plus any additions in the window.
But the big question. You call off Boxing Day game (which Saints still played at Fulham with the same tube strike going on). You score well against Newcastle when they run out of steam, and then today your players looked as if they couldn't run for a ball. Is this attitude, or have your players got a fitness problem? You can't blame the pitch, St. Marys surface is as good as your own.
I will not mention what I think of some Arsenal supporters who were posting predictions of 5-0 before the game. And £5m for Shaw? Even if he was available you would have to pay a lot more.
You may have picked uop some good youngsters from Saints but the current batch is better still-and they are staying put!

Saint Martin

I agree he needs service but he also needs to try and hurry the defenders, he didnt chase any defender once, so they had the time to pick the pass and put us under pressure instead of pressing high up the pitch and pressuring them

One swallow doesn't make a summer- so shaw had a good game against a poor arsenal today and bearing in mind southhampton set up to defend mostly he always had lots of cover...... the arse need to learn a plan b against that sort of tactic...possibly play giroud and walnut up front or giroud and pod with only one wide player (walnut)

Agree1 Disagree0

I have been told by someone Arsenal made an agreement when they built the Emirates that X% of their fans would travel to the game by public transport. With the tubes strike this wasn't possible, that is why it was postponed, They may just be talking rubbish but maybe not. I think not playing the game was a bad choice, showed in the first half against Newcastle they couldn't be bothered closing down same today. This is what happens to teams after too long of a break like start of the season, and why they finish strong at the end. Professional footballers shouldn't need long periods of rest their bodies are tuned - not an excuse.

Hi eds, can you confirm that Diaby's contract finishes this summer?

And are there any clubs that have shown interest in picking him up on a free?

I think he would snatch a new contract out of wengers hand right now in a flash, but a big gamble and big salary from a big european team would turn his head.

As i understand it domestic clubs still can't get a precontract signed (or 'officially' approach the player) until the current contract has expired, but foreign clubs can. it is the same situation with Theo. Have any european powerhouses been sniffing around Diaby?

I have mixed opinions on Diaby, not sure if he is totally wrecked by his injuries now, or going to come good ala rvp.

Apparantly he is on his way back and training, it is a big six months ahead for him to earn a new deal at arsenal, or elsewhere - this is why i don't think the much needed CDM will be brought in in January.

happy new year to all my fellow gunners. lets see what this year holds, we had the highs and lows of last season (more lows than highs but lets stay positive)......we start the year with the 'theo saga' -should i stay or should i go - i rather we kept theo than sign another 60 70 grand forward, every gunner will agree without theo in the team we look flat be it he plays upfront or on the wing. he is starting to mature - he will have his bad days but his knack of scoring and terrorising defenders with his pace is an added bonus that most teams dont have. all the big players will put there fingers in the pie and try and prise our prized asset away, but from his latest interviews it seems to me that his heart is at the club, his team mates want him to stay, arsene wants him to stay but do the board and agents - do they see dollar signs and cash in on theo - it will all unfold in the next few weeks - i got everything crossed hoping he stays!
theo along with wilshere ox eisfeld gnabry gibbs coquelin and co are all good quality youngsters who can be the backbone of this great club for years to come but we also need to invest in players like poldi arteta santi verm and merti to help them learn and add quality and experience to their game
so ideally in january i think we should invest in 2 quality experienced defensive players one in midfield and one that can cover various positions at the back. upfront we have giroud theo and podolski if push comes to shove we need a quality striker to complement the 3. we only need to fine tune our team and keep our stars we have. luke shaw and zaha will be an added bonus but not a neccessity.

upwards and onwards

GS

Believable8 Unbelievable0

Its a good job Shaw is not a neccessity, as Nigel Adkins has stated a conversation needs to be had with Saints chairman, Mr.Cortese "and good luck with that"!
You might not grasp what that means, but your management soon will. We don't play childish games, when we have already said not for sale you should get the message. If you can't, then perhaps more direct language is what your people deserve.

A few thoughts on January, It's probably going to be our most defining window in our constantly spoken about financial situation and our footballing future.

It's an absolute must that the club makes a proper mark of intent with a minimum of 2 quality signings to set us up for the remainder of the season and our chances in the Champions League where Chelski proved anything can happen, although I'd take a win like that, with some flair would be nicer. We cannot let Theo go; it makes no logical sense and would send a hideous signal of defeat right through the club but more so to us the fans and supporters.

The Champions League, I'm not saying we will win it but it's a cup competition, yes for Europe's elite but you gotta be in it to win it.

The league on the other hand, we have 33pts, it was won last season with 89pts, the max we can get with games remaining....90pts. So I'm not holding my breath.

Let's just keep the high going and see where it takes us, if only the board had the passion of our away support!!

Stoner

Believable4 Unbelievable0

Important windows, yes. but definitely not where we flex major financial muscle. Jan windows truly hold little value, just like Le Prof and even Sir Purple Nose say.

Yes sorry not talking massive but we can now afford quality such as Cazorla and Podolski, there are the players out there we're linked too. Get them and don't f**k about.

Just think it will, along with signing Theo show that we are no longer going backwards and we all want a realistic shout at something and the League already would require some serious melt down elsewhere.

Forgive my ignorance if I'm wrong, but don't you have to register your squad for Champions league by August, September by the latest, would this not block anybody new from being added to that list of squad names? ED? {Ed002's Note - It can be revised after the January window.}

Agree0 Disagree0

You can make changes to the squad list, but basically you'd only be adding players that aren't cup-tied to begin with.
like, say if we got Gotze, we wouldn't add his name to the list since he's played for Dortmund and they're still in CL too, but if we got Falcao, we would be allowed to play him.

What I would have much rathered is we kept Song and used money from Cesc, Nasri, RVP deals to buy Santi Carzorla. Despite lack of playing time at Barca Song was quality last season. Best box to box midfielder in PL apart from Y. Toure. We should have enough money to just buy our targets rather than a 1 in 1 out scenario.

I do however like this current team now theyve found their feet. Wenger tried to create team with youth core but they all left. Wenger learnt from his mistakes and he's got a new home grown core all tied down til 2018. We would have won trophies if the board let this young core stay.

I want to talk about the cl this season and what peoples thoughts on how far we can go in it...

we have yet again reached the knockout stage and are only 4 games from a semi final...
if we were to add 2-3 quality players to the squad in january i think we could have a real run at reaching the final??
if we were to add dm, lb and a striker who have the ability to walk straight into the 1st team i think we could give any 1 a run for their money...

thoughts please

malaga gooner

Believable1 Unbelievable0

There arent any Dm's or Strikers that are not cup tied, who would walk staight into the first team.

Beating munich over 2 legs would surpass the 2-1 barcelona at the emirates, but I personally believe we will get destroyed in munich.

De Rossi for our DM is my choice (not cup tied, but he will never leave roma..)

Baines at lb (not cup tied, but can you really see him in an arsenal shirt? no chance...just no chance)

Villa or cavani upfront (again..just wishful thinking..not because we arent good enough, but because we dont buy such good (proven/expensive) players..)

Il take a punt at who we do buy (if anyone at all) though

Luke shaw
Wilfried Zaha

Young, unproven, expensive british potential. Its our new policy...maybe we will win over the next 7 years, maybe not.

(HAPPY NEW YEAR)

Agree3 Disagree1

Hi Malaga

My thoughts are that the clubs priority is to qualify for the CL and not winning it.
The signings over the years have been generally mediocre, whilst selling our best players, this is not the remit to win the most prestigious club trophy.
Wenger has long talked about qualifying 15 years running, which is a great achievement, but almost seems resigned to losing to the likes of barca, real etc .
We may beat the odd team in a one off game but can not imagine this squad going all the way without some serious quality additions.
Ike.

Agree5 Disagree0

Ike, i see the point that most make here about not being good enough yet but it's ******* annoying to hear that anyone at the club (the footballing aspects) is "happy to settle for 4th place".

i agree we haven't looked like a team that would stroll into a final just by showing up, but we've had to sell off one team to get some money, invest well while paying off for a new stadium, have to face the reality that the core of this new players either didn't perform or performed well for a while and then wanted out to earn more money (or trophies, as they claim) only for us to have to settle for a new beginning from square one.

every game we play, the players, management and fans go in for a win. it's all about those crucial 3 points or the win that pushes us into the next round of draws. no one plays for second place, or third of fourth. that's something you have to settle for when you're not fit enough to be at the top of the pile. that's where our club has failed- in being strong enough. and understandably so, we were changing so much at the start, and then dealing with so much transfer bull$hit no too long ago that we've barely been able to steady the ship (that's another legitimate reason so complain about if you need one).

don't, for the love of all that is sacred, say that the team was happy to play and not bothered to win. you can't exactly manage a CL place without trying to go win games in the first place, right?

psychocyst.

Agree2 Disagree3

Not sure what your response relates too but its not relevant to my comment.
Ike.

"My thoughts are that the clubs priority is to qualify for the CL and not winning it."

we wouldn't bother playing first team players if we were only there to make appearances. just because we can't challenge well, doesn't mean we don't challenge.

it's like being Gervinho (sad times when i have to use him in an analogy like this). he tries to make runs, place passes, shoot goals, but he can't do either one right when he's running on rubber stilts.

we suffer from lack of skill and drive, not lack of ambition.

over the last few days twitter is going nuts about arda turan and adrian lopez, but im 85-90% sure we wont bring anybody in for the simple reason that we aren't desperate, we are going forward well, winning games. gervniho will be gone for acn and its more likely that the gaffer will promote gnabry to cover the gap in the squad for the month. diaby is going to be back in 3 weeks (should be training this week but i'm being pessimistic). the most likely option i predict is that wenger will make a move for luke shaw and shift santos in the summer but it could happen this month. zaha is a big possibility and would fit into the core of english players that are developing at arsenal.
