I think I'm feeling like a Leicester fan,
I would have taken a semi final the start,

You know what Welsh, I had a sneaky feeling you Dragons had a good chance in this comp as long as you wernt over reliant on the 1 man army goal machine. As you went through the group I actually thought you were rather poor and had Belgium to beat you. You showed tonight that you can get goals without the Gorillas free kicks.

Good luck I hope you win it, your team have been great in all departments.

Once you've gone to the trouble of getting a semi it seems a shame not to maintain the momentum and go all the way Welsh mate:-)
A romantic liaison with hosts France in Paris during the July heat would be a seem a fitting climax to 58 years of foreplay:-)

Welshy mate.
I would say that any decent football
fan from this country will be adopting Wales at the moment and willing them on to win this tournament.
I think Wales have been heroes up to now and hopefully they go on to pick up the trophy.
Just a thought as I write this .,
Can you imagine what the odds would have been if Wales do win this and you had have had a win double on Leicester for the Premier league and Wales to win Euro2016? would have been astronomical odds .
Here's hoping Wales pull it off mate.
Good luck.

I don't want to hear anyone imply that Ramsey is a bad or average footballer. He has been wonderful the whole tournament, and Tonight was no different. Absolute class and very hard working, he was everywhere tonight.

Shows what he can do when given the appropriate role in a team.

Only thing is how can we allow him roam free from the middle when ozil is no. 10. We'd be left far too exposed in the central mid.

But he's been playing and starting as a wide forward for Wales? Him and bale were starting either side of Rob-Kanu. Yes they've been given freedom to roam, but he does so for arsenal too.
And he's best season wasn't in the no.10 role but as a deeper CM.

5 gamees of only being allowed 1 card is to long imo, some of the best MF and Defenders in the competition will miss the SF because of two mistakes in 450 minute's of football.

Agree1 Disagree0

01 Jul 2016 22:53:40
Agree g62. Happens time and time again. I remember Nedved missing the champions league final and he was outstanding that year, the most exciting player in the tournament by far. It deprived the game of someone and something special.

2 yellows in the group and three in the knockouts should be the way imo.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Jul 2016 23:34:38
We all want to see players giving everything for their country challenging for every ball for 90 minutes in every game and in doing that not to expect more than one over enthusiastic tackle or heat of the moment reaction 7 and a half hours of passionate football is totally unrealistic IMO.
I'd say wipe all yellow cards after the group stages allowing for 2 before a ban in the last 16 QF SF and final its self.

We should sign Williams as well and make him captain. He is a leader something we lack.

Agree0 Disagree3

01 Jul 2016 21:33:29
I'd of bloody loved Williams 2 or 3 seasons ago.
He really was/ is a player who would of improved us, he may not be a 'big' name, but as you say, he's a leader and a really large presence.
I think he's like 31 now though isn't he?
So I can't see us moving for him unfortunately.

Agree0 Disagree3

01 Jul 2016 21:44:17
Williams as an upgrade on Mertesacker as both captain and partner for Kos is surely a very big step forward.
Williams and a quality finisher would make us so much more difficult proposition for opponents.

Give Wenger a break on that one he tried to sign Williams if I recall severall seasons ago and it was a couple on the trot but I think we were well outpriced for his signature. (could have been a rumour also was a few years back now, I forget) .

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Jul 2016 04:54:54
Williams WAS on our shopping list a few seasons ago if you remember.
BUT! again we failed miserably to attract him even then boys. Same old same old.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - to be fair, so did any other club. He never wanted to leave there. Williams and Brendan Rodgers were very close, but he couldn't persuade him to leave Swansea for Liverpool either. So I would not hold that against Wenger or Arsenal too much.}

01 Jul 2016 21:01:36
hi ed. with chelsea getting michy batshuayi. and utd getting zlatan (they already have martial rooney etc) . are arsenal now favoriates to land lukaku. thanks in advance.

{Ed001's Note - not sure how that is relevant to Lukaku, when neither were ever likely to go for him, except in a moment of extreme desperation.}

To reply to D16 about this new wonder kid from the Far East, what happened to Chambers he was full of "potential" and for a boat load of money he is sitting on the bench . There will be no place for Tapioca whatever his name is .

We have been down this route before, I wouldn't mind if he was as good as the lad Munich have purchased but he's not.

Believable0 Unbelievable3

01 Jul 2016 20:12:35
If he's the only striker we sign then I agree with you but if he is a speculative punt for the future and we sign an higuain say, then it great we have covered all bases. I don't think we will sign with a view of first team next season, but with a chance of making it ina few seasons time, I think.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Jul 2016 20:43:17
We've got to find a balance when it comes to signings.
In a world where palace have £25m to bid for Benteke (allegedly) Everton can spend £30m on Axel Witsel (also allegedly) and Watford can reject bids of £35m for Ighalo (which is crazy to me and is also only allegedly) we, can't or don't want, to spend that sort of money on players who aren't the exact ones we want.

Yes, that may be a flawed system, but I can pretty much safely say none of us here know a thing about this Asano lad, other than a few of the ed's maybe.
£5m isn't that much in footballing money these days, it's basically the equivalent of buying a sandwich and a bottle of water on your lunch break.
It's a gamble, the kid could be the mutt's nuts, or he could be another Miyiachi.

I highly doubt it's going to impact our striker search, because if nothing else, I doubt the lad's going to get a work permit.

As far as chambers goes, let's not forget, the lads only 21.
Not all players can do a Hector and nail a first team spot at 20, look at Koscielny.
25 when we signed him from Lorient and before that from 21-23 was playing for Ligue 2 Tours.

if we do sign the lad, we've just got to accept it.
Personally, if he's another youngster, I'll be interested to see how he does, considering that more Japanese players seem to be finding their way to bigger European leagues:

However, if we're signing him as a first teamer and only competition to Giroud, I'll be joining you right there with my pitchfork mate.

Top post D_.

Spot on mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Jul 2016 16:35:52
1. Sam Byram - Would be an excellent signing as cover at RB for Bellerin. He is homegrown. I cannot imagine West Ham willingly selling him to us, unless he is included in a deal, whereby with Ox or Walcott go to West Ham. Should we lose either of these players in order to secure Byram?
2. Wenger as England manager - I believe this won't happen, as Wenger previously stated that he would only be interested in managing his own country. He will, however use the speculation to enhance his own ambitions to remain as Arsenal manager for the foreseeable future.
3. Which forward should we and are we most likely to sign? My own choice would be Lukaku, even at a high cost.

Believable0 Unbelievable4

01 Jul 2016 20:29:26
A lot of people think Byram has some promise (I haven't really seen much of the lad, so can't place judgement) but why would we sign him?
We've got cover for Bellerin, in Chambers and (after injury) Jenko, who are both homegrown, I also can't imagine Byram being much better than either of them, not to mention Chambers is only 21

I agree with Arsene not being England manager, I just can't see it, he's got a good history of blooding youngsters and this IS what the England team needs, but I just can't see it.
I imagine he'll see out the remainder of his contract this season and then either renew it or look to manage in France.
I can't see him retiring just yet, he's only 66 and I think he genuinely still loves football.

Agree0 Disagree3

01 Jul 2016 16:43:14
I seem to have figured out why Walcott has been underperforming for us. It's not clear to him where he's best postion to play the game is and for that matter, it has juggled up his mind a bit. So there's lack of concentration and confidence in his game. He's not relaxed and he appears to force it whenever he's on the pitch. The battle of not being allowed to play upfront has affected his concentration levels and he looks like he's torn apart as he's indecisive there.
However, if he could let go of holding down the middle spot, he would come back to his usual self. And if he becomes happy again and then gets satisfied at playing in any position for arsenal, there's be no way he wouldn't bounce back. There's always Cazorla and even Arteta to learn from.
I think the club's search for a new striker has left him a message as Wenger doesn't seem to trust him with the striking role.

Believable0 Unbelievable5

01 Jul 2016 17:08:31
Walcott is just not good enough

He's had enough time to prove himself, and has failed

Sell him and get his 140 per week of the wage bill.

Agree2 Disagree0

01 Jul 2016 20:24:12
Don't get me wrong here, I quite like Theo, he seems a nice enough bloke interviews, doesn't rock the boat much, behaves in public, does as told, a classic Arsene player.

But Theo simply isn't good enough.
He had a chance as a striker for us and was never consistent.
He's played on the right, but doesn't do enough defensively to support Bellerin and doesn't really offer enough going forward, he's a great crosser, he's not a clinical finisher, he's just fast.

Thing is, Theo's pace is fantastic against tired legs.
He's either going to beat his man or at least draw the foul.
But in the space of a whole 90, teams know his game and stop him from really using the pace.

One thing I will give Theo, is I personally think he's a big game player.
He almost plays better against teams like City, Chelsea, Utd than he does against smaller teams.
This past season alone you've got the great goal against city, you've got the 3-0 win over Utd, where even though he didn't score, he bullied their back line and created space for Mesut and Alexis to cause havoc.

Now, Mesut got a lot of stick for not turning up in the big games in his first season (s) so should we let Theo for pretty much only turning up against the big teams?
Not in my (often incorrect) opinion.

There's a crossroads here, because Theo's 27 and he's hitting that age where a player often peaks.
If he's to ever hit the form he was touted for, he needs to playing every week, 90 minutes.
He will not get that here.

I personally don't think Theo is the sort who's happy to turn up to training, pick up his cheques and then sit on the bench with the assorted youngsters covering our swathe of injuries.
I think if a team came in for him, that could/ would offer him comparable terms, he'd be interested.

Theo isn't going to cut the mustard at Arsenal, but he may very well succeed somewhere else, really, it boils down to wether we're willing to let him leave combined with wether a team wants to sign him.
Or are we going to ignore any prospective interest on the off chance he'll come good?

Hey Ed,

Any chance on an update on likeliest striker arrivals?

Thanks! And welcome back Ed002. You were missed.

{Ed002's Note - I cannot answer "likely" questions and I am not providing any lists of players. I will provide various odds and ends and answer some questions until the vegetables return and spoil it.}

01 Jul 2016 13:31:48
Good to know they still haven't returned yet ed! Reading your responses interest me. I've seen you several times say so and so isn't our preferred choice as a forward its making me wonder who these preferred ones actually are seeing as moreta higuian lukuku all seem out of reach for me. Has me thinking is there anyone realistic I've missed out guys.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Much will depend on Sanchez staying and I suspect he might do. If Lacazette moves to Juventus then they will drop their interest in Sanchez and that is half the battle won.}

01 Jul 2016 13:46:05
Whats the other half?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Other interest in him.}

01 Jul 2016 13:53:47
Interesting that thanks ed. sorry if this is a stupid question but what does Alexis staying or not have to do with it. Or is it just going to determine how much we spend on one? Sorry if that's an ignorant question lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - There is a practical limit to the number of forwards the club can have.}

01 Jul 2016 14:00:37
You now have me worried we plan on having giroud up top as our main out and out forward if alexis. Not that I mind him but another would help in my opinion. Thanks ed generally appreciate it.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

30 Jun 2016 21:15:04
Hey ed,
1. With manutd on a signing spree do you see us signing a striker (preferably a striker)
2.Do you think the Japanese striker and Asano will be the striker to cover up Welbeck
3. And Wenger has talked of two signings, can you at least please guide which are the targets Wenger is pursuing from which he will make the two signings (a target list plz) 😀😀😀.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I don't see what United has to do with anything. Wenger is trying to buy a striker, not a back up, but one to lead the line.}
