Could someone on here please help reassure me that we are going to use some sort of smart rotation. Where wingers rotate with wingers (Walcott, Perez, Ox etc) and midfielders rotate with mids (Cazorla, Ramsey, Elneny etc) , and we are not going to leave all those wingers on the bench and play Ramsay over on the wing.

I don't think we should be rotating full stop, Leicester didn't rotate last season or Chelsea the season before, rotation makes for a happy squad picking the best available 11 week in week out makes for a successful team and club.
Play well play every week play badly lose your place, that a formula that's proved successful ever since I've been watching the game.

{Ed025's Note - im with you G62..

Good answer G62.

Imagine telling Southall and Radcliffe or Henry and Bergkamp or Cantona and Giggs or Dalglish and Souness they needed to take their turn so all could be happy Ed025 mate :-) the Everton Arsenal Utd and Liverpool trothy cabinets would look very different today with that approach back then mate.

Agree5 Disagree1

{Ed025's Note - liverpool won the league with 14 players playing i think G62, as you say rotate them if they play poorly not if they are doing well, continuity is a recipe for success in any walk of life and if you get dropped when you are playing well then that can only breed resentment..im with you all the way on this one mate..

01 Sep 2016 20:28:30
62 - agree with you. Only rotate if makes sense from an injury perspective or tactics

For me - Rambo can play on the right and offer late runs, an engine etc in certain games. I look at the role Parlour and Freddie played. Why not Rambo?

I think they can rotate - the best should should play the most but a little rest and protection from injuries helps, no one gets tired/ jaded and a little freshness with energy from the bench doesn't hurt IMO. I am not talking communism and equality but smart rotation. And if I had a Bergkamp or Henry they would not be rested - nor would Sanchez or Ozil get as much as some others.

Bigger point is keeping a bunch of wingers on the bench while Ramsey takes their spot.

Agree2 Disagree11

01 Sep 2016 22:11:37
Whether or not continuity and consistency can win you the league is pretty academic in this context: it's Arsenal and some kind of rotation - most likely forced - will be necessary, as injuries WILL happen.

Agree1 Disagree1

01 Sep 2016 22:16:18
The wingers mentioned are all presently unproven premier league challanging players, Aaron is much much further ahead in terms of proven performances as is Caz who can offer much more dependability too.
Ox needs to kick on this season and take any chances he gets big time, Theo I'm not sure if there's any more to find out about him ( hope there is but at 27? ) Perez? Full stop.

Agree1 Disagree1

02 Sep 2016 06:55:38
Rambo sucks out wide. Wenger just put him there to "accomodate him". We need to be deadly on both sides otherwise we will be predictable with all our attacks coming from Sanchez wing.

Great news, Wenger refused Leeds loan offer for Sanogo, as we need him at the club! It beggars belief.

But he's crap.

02 Sep 2016 07:57:28
Look your getting all wrong.
Last time we loaned Sanogo out Wenger was getting threatened from the team we loaned him too. They thought Wenger was having a laugh at their expense!
😂😂😂😂😂.

Mustafi injured, hopefully it isn't too serious. I hate the current International break, it makes little sense.
On a second topic, I am sad to see Gnabry depart, as he is clearly a big talent. However, I recall when Tony Pullis took him on loan, he didn't last long, before being sent back. I am not a huge fan of Pullis and his methods, but clearly Gnabry had a problem.

In respect of Wilshere, he should benefit from a season away and hopefully will return the player he once promised to be. Finally, it's interesting that Wenger appears to have turned away from signing small, technical midfield players. The signing of Elneny and Xhaka, illustrate this.

Other PL teams are clearly going back to the days of powerful, tall, athletic players. Oh yes, did the Toot seriously pay £30m, for a player that was poor last season in a team that was relegated and pre-France's failed Euros, could raise a £10m bid!

The thought of Highbury always brings remarkable memories. Emirates stadium however has lived in the shadows of Highbury. I would love someday for Emirates to the fortress Highbury provided us fans and the players. I think the change of stadium changed our manager completely.
But I think this season, he wants to amend his ways, make things right and make history. It's been a hell of a 12 years ride but hey, I love ARSENAL :-)

True that.

01 Sep 2016 15:47:46
I miss Highbury too. I remember buying a programme, then going past the burger stands and looking up at the gap between the East Stand and the North Bank. In the evenings the floodlights shone brightly against the dark sky. The Emirates is a stunning stadium, but lacks the atmosphere of Highbury. Perhaps, as we win things at The Emirates, the atmosphere will change.

I really hope jack stays fit for Bournemouth because I think he will be the player to help them stay in the league, they've got a brilliant young up and coming manager in Eddie Howe (which I wouldn't put past arsenal grabbing him next season if Wenger does leave) so I think he will thrive there.
I know it's been said by lots of regulars on this forum but fantastic work ed's throughout this transfer window, your constant info was well appreciated so thank you! Bring on the winter window ;)

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - thank you. One thing though, why is Eddie Howe so brilliant? What makes him brilliant? I really do not see it at all. I keep hearing he is outstanding, but I watch his team and they make me fall asleep. He failed everywhere but Bournemouth and at the Cherries he has spent huge sums comparatively to achieve the success he has done.}

01 Sep 2016 10:19:38
I think he's decent, nothing more.

Probably more chance of him managing England than Arsenal.

Howe once cited Brendan Rodgers as "My Inspiration".

That put me right off.

Agree1 Disagree3

{Ed001's Note - that says it all, no wonder his brand of football is so mind numbingly boring then.}

01 Sep 2016 11:30:01
Without getting into it to much I disagree ed. obviously his experience and resume is short but I think he understands the game well. I think he was a bit unlucky with injurys last year but don't think Bournemouth will get relegated under him and living in the area they have a good youth set up! But time will tell and I understand that it's early days to be calling him anything more than what he is! But personally can see him having a better career than most English managers (that's not hard lol ) but I hope you get my point.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - understands the game well? Then why can't he produce a team with any attacking threat? They are boring and toothless due to his style of play. The Man Utd game, for instance, the whole United team could have gone off for a coffee in the stands for 85 minutes knowing that Bournemouth would have made no attempt to get the ball forward until the dying seconds when they panic.}

01 Sep 2016 13:24:33
Didn't he take them from league 2 to the prem? That's pretty impressive although can't see him manager one of the big clubs.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - not really when you look at the true circumstances of the huge Russian investment into the club coinciding with his time. That is why I mentioned the comparatively large budget. He has never been short of cash to spend compared to his closest rivals.}

01 Sep 2016 14:54:57
He appears to be no revolutionary in terms of tactics but from those I know in and around the academy he seems to be a very friendly and visible figure at the club. People have compared him to Sir Alex in regards to his hands on approach to the youth set up.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Sep 2016 15:05:51
You know I must admit I've never looked into it. I always thought he just took them all the way up on limited resources. Keep seeing him as one of the candidates after Arsene. Hope not!

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Sep 2016 16:41:03
I personally believe that they played good football to get out of the championship and the huge Russian investment was huge for the championship but they have struggled to bring that against stronger premier league clubs. Like I say I like the guy and so does everyone in the Bournemouth area. One mans meat and all that.

Ian Wright seems happy with Perez - looking forward to seeing Perez play

Would have liked Bony to come on loan for a season to add more fire power although I must admit when you look at what the team and bench could look like -> it's very strong and pretty exciting

Real interesting to see Theo as he appears to be defending and working more on the wing plus accepted that might be his best spot. Looks like he's done extra training to get ready for start. Big big season for him and really hope he does well because he has delivered in pockets when not injured

Feeling good about the season and can't wait for some home debuts!

I am mate! If anything I hope the signings are enough to bring the fans and club back together . Our team is by no way poor and on their day can beat anyone. Let's hope the players integrate well.

Put in order from most to least how well our new signings are going to do this year:

1) Xhaka
2) Mustafi
3) Holding
4) Perez
5) Asano.

Mustafi xhaka Perez holding.

{Ed001's Note - what are they holding? Ah never mind, this is when they are in the wall right, protecting their crown jewels!}

01 Sep 2016 09:10:37
Ed,
Probably "Holding" a spare pair of crutches vacated by Wilshere.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - is there no one to inherit them at the club?}

01 Sep 2016 12:20:18
Yep Mustafi. Joins Arsenal for 20 mins and nearly brakes his ankle!

01 Sep 2016 11:49:59
Well Ed,

Arteta, Rosicky and Flamini have gone and Wilshere loaned out.

Seem's like Wenger has got rid of the "Crockery".

Hopefully we will lose our place on top of "injury table" and occupy a place on top of Prem table.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - don't worry I am sure Wenger will work his magic on the noobs. Mertesacker and Koscielny seem to have improved on the old injury front in recent years.....}

01 Sep 2016 02:33:49
Mustafi injured in Germany game yay.

Did not want him to leave, but to get £8m (allegedly) for a player who hardly wore the shirt is not a bad bit of business (Gnabry) .

Believable0 Unbelievable0

01 Sep 2016 06:21:37
Really excited by that 8 million Dags, I think given a good run of games it could be become a big shirt seller and fans favourite in the years ahead:-)

G62,
For £8m we could get ourselves another manager :-)

01 Sep 2016 15:40:15
I thought Gnabry was going to make it at the club and this summer's performances fuelled optimism, so it's sad to see him go. However, I believe he had an attitude problem, remember Tony Pullis sent him swiftly back from a loan deal.

A big, massive thank you to all the Ed's.

You all do a fantastic job, but in transfer window you pull out all the stops.

Top job from a top bunch of blokes (and a lady, possibly, still not sure yet) .
