Jesus Navas anyone? Top quality winger who could slot in on the right. Has intellegent pace and could easily play behind the striker.

Believable4 Unbelievable8

Suffers from homesickness, he had therapy for it, to allow him to travel on international duty, but apparently it's only helps for a short period of time.

Not worth the gamble, even if he is a top Winger.

D

Agree10 Disagree0

Navas is a world class winger, one of the very best and he's not too expensive.

Agree2 Disagree0

It's a shame, after the Reyes experience, is it worth a gamble... probably not.

Similar situation to arshavin.

Hi eds!
Are arsenal showing any interest in sturridge? He is clearly available. £10-£12 mill for a england striker? Wud surely pick us over liverpool
Thank nb

Believable2 Unbelievable16

Dont rate him...he is greedy...can get in a team where the main striker is out of form.....the reason is he is no good.....off to Liverpool mate with the rest of the overpriced rubbish....

PSG announce new 150m per year (for 4 years ) commercial deals..how is FFP gonna help arsenal, when PSG can do that? Arsenal have held on to ideal that FFP will limit the clubs with rich owners, but as we can see, for the next 4 years minimum, clubs will earn treble the amount we do! Which leaves us where? Collecting 4th place trophy i suppose..

D {Ed002's Note - In terms of the FFP rules there will be a cap on allowable sponsorship.}

not the best draw but at the same time it could have been worse.

I'm actually happy with Bayern Munich.
The reason I love the CL is that I can go to see a top team play the Arsenal. If we want to play just decent sides then we should be in the Europa League. Bottom line is that we need to beat teams like Munich to win this and we may as well play them early.
Dont forget that we destroyed Real/Juve on route to the final in 2006. (obviously we need a couple signings)
Going to try to beg some away tickets from a few people because Munich was class when I was there and for the football would be epic I think.

In terms of the game, obviously we are underdogs. But dont forget that Wenger might buy some big players before the game, and even if he doesn't we have a chance. Their defense isn't great so there will be goals. Our midfield can win the game for us imo. Also we may have Thierry for some inspiration.

Schweinsteiger/Martinez vs Wilshere/Cazorla/Arteta :)
Eman.

Believable8 Unbelievable2

The beer's great, the fans are friendly and the stadium is mindblowing. Go if you can.

By the way, their midfield has Schweinsteiger/Martinez/(Kroos or Muller or Shaqiri)

and is more than capable of outsmarting ours. They gel along really well. What we should be terrified of is their finishing if Gomez starts. And we can all hope Robben is extremely selfish during the game. (Also for a stylish win, which isn't impossibe)

Sliced Bread

Agree4 Disagree0

Robben ribery gomez could rip us apart if we play like we have in some games

Agree6 Disagree3

Realistically, we would struggle against virtually every team, bar Malaga who are on par with us. We are highly unlikely to win the CL, so lets enjoy the matches against a very strong Bayern team.

The more I think about it, it makes sense - we should definately make an offer for Demba Ba.

He is only one goal behind rvp and Newcastle have been awful, he would'nt break the bank and it seems like he wants to come to us.

Lets have a vote?

Agree = yes
Disagree = no

Believable37 Unbelievable14

He also has this recurring knee problem, which when he gets.. you will slate Wenger for getting him.

Sliced Bread {Ed002's Note - Very high wages demands, very high agent fees, very high insurance due to the knee.}

Agree10 Disagree0

20 Dec 2012 16:41:42
I was aware of all the above, however this knee problem does'nt seem to be affecting him lately, maybe Diaby & Rosicky should see his doctor.

Also his price would reflect all this, rvp had a worse injury record than him and it has (so far) paid off for the mancs.

If AW were to gamble with 10mil it may pay off

Agree2 Disagree3

Zero chance of us signing Ba, due to his knee problem.

Agree5 Disagree2

How many games has he missed since joining premiership teams as I cannot remember many at all?
Chess

Agree6 Disagree0

Thanks chess, that was my point I can't remember him being out at all but I can remember him scoring plenty of cracking goals.

Agree2 Disagree1

I really hope we dont sign Ba, good enough for West Ham and NUFC but he isnt the direction we should be going in.

1404

Agree3 Disagree2

I agree we should defo buy him. He is the sort of striker we need think how many goals he will score with arsenal's playing style he is a perfect fit in my opinion. All fans ever say is wenger should go for proven premier league players and for me he is the best option for us i mean we ain't gonna buy rooney aguero or any one like that and the next best thing is ba.

Agree3 Disagree4

Thankyou for all your votes, it seems in favour of signing Mr Ba so I will.

To beat Bayern its simple we have to buy Wanyama or Diame, Huntellar or Ba, Fellaini or Belhanda and Ben arfa

Believable3 Unbelievable14

If you bought Wanyama, Huntelaar and Belhanda, it would not make a difference as they are all cup tied.

Naz

Agree23 Disagree1

So we buy cup-tied players to beat a team they can't play against. yup, i see this plan working out just fine.

psychocyst.

Agree13 Disagree0

I would sign M'Villa and Ba for sure, not too expensive and not cup tied don't think we need any more attacking options in midfield i would promote Elsfield. Maybe sign an experienced left back for when gibbs gets injured or suspended in would consider Diame if the 3.7mill clause in his contract is true. Again not cup tied.

Spanner

Agree6 Disagree0

Belhanda not cup tied as they are out of europe

I would have rather had Dortmund. We play similar football to them, and it would have been a bit more balanced match. Bayern is all attack at nearly every position, and with our back line not playing at it's highest potential lately....this will be a very tough draw. Hoping for the best!

Having drawn Bayern in CL, do you think AW may change his transfer targets slightly to those who are not cup tied and would be eligible to play, DM, LB, ST??? Huntellar would be cup tied for a start.....

Beyern Munich then, Difficult but I still think we have decent chance. Need to win the home leg. I do not think they are as Good as Dortmund. I feel we cant beat them when in form and with the right team selection

Utd have Real Madrid, Celtic have Juve.

Believable9 Unbelievable2

They're way better than Dortmund

Agree6 Disagree10

In the league, Munich have been insane. But in CL, their performances have been really shaky. Dortmund, actually, have concentrated fully on CL (looks like it) and are more of a threat than Bayern (as of current form).

Arsenal to play Bayern Munich in the Champions League QF.

As soon as I saw this, I thought 'crap, forget about going through now'

But then I thought 'hang on, we could actually pull this off.'

We all know how good we can be, we have been unlucky in the past few years.

I thought last year we could've overcome a 4 goal defecit and defy the odds, but it didn't turn out that way. Van Persie shouldn't have been sent off the year before and that could've seen us through also.

Regardless, we now have two memorable fixtures to look forward to.

Nick.

Believable18 Unbelievable3

Better than getting Barca....
Chris

Agree8 Disagree1

Not the best draw but not the worst either. I think as long as we avoided Barca and Dortmund we have a chance.

I think we have better chance of beating Munich than Utd have of beating Madrid put it that way. I Fancy Celtic may cause a surprise aswell and sneak past Juve.

Billybob

Not many teams in world football have a stronger passing game in midfield than we do (on a good day) . Bayern are one of the teams that do. I honestly feel we would have more chance against barca..bayern are in form; have exceptional players and i fully believe that atleast in Germany we will get beaten by atleast 2 clear goals.
Great tie..we get to play a legendary team who we never play against..can't wait to seen it!

Hey guys sorry it's been a bit bum out from me recently, I just hate the period coming up to transfers because I don't have that much faith that we will buy what we need because we haven't for the past 7 years even when signings have looked nailed on.

Some people on here will be very excited and when nothing comes in they'll buy the excuses but I gave up on that a while back, sorry.

We've had mixed messages from the club/Wenger - a week ago he and Gazidis were both saying how just because we've got money doesn't mean we'll be signing big players - extremely disappointing. Then about 3 days ago ESPN release an article with a statement from Wenger saying that the period of constraint in the market is now over and there is money. Again mixed messages and so I am just being realistic and not getting my hopes up. I think the fact that some guy from Zambia is coming instead of someone else probably shows why I might not be too excited!

There is a seed of hope this time round though.

Anyway, I'm away from the computer now probably until sunday night, missing the game because I'm at a wedding on saturday (still gutted to missing the game!). I want us to line up with the exact same line up as Reading and I want us to nail Wigan to the post!

Have a great few days everyone, keep the dodgy rumours coming and let's look forward to a nice win on Sat!

just wanted to say i have noticed Stewart Robson has become so anti Wenger all of a sudden every interview he has done the last month or so he has slagged and blamed Wenger for everything in the last 7yrs. he says he's tactics have been wrong for the last 7yrs. i admit some decisions wenger has made now again over the last 2 or 3 season have been bad but not over the 7yrs it ain't. i am just think he is going way over the top with it now. I mean we all criticizes wenger now and again but he has gone mental over it in this last month even Bob Wilson, Liam Brady and Ray Parlour have all come out and said that they think he is wrong to say what he has about wenger and Wilson has also said that Robson was the one that started the rumors about bold and wenger arguing but as Wilson said if it is true and Bould is unhappy he can always step down has assistant manager. i just think he is bitter about being sacked from being and arsenal media pundit just think he is a proper mug now. {Ed025's Note - i agree mate..

Believable16 Unbelievable0

I agree to a certain extent & Robson clearly has an agenda. However, I agree with his comments in respect of the tactics, with Wenger abandoning his highly successful & trophy winning fluid 4-4-2 and using various odd & rather unsuccessful formations.

Agree4 Disagree2

He really needs to get over it, if anything bad happens to AW over xmas he'll be prime suspect!

Agree3 Disagree0

Robson, an ex bit part Arsenal player, never be a legend does most of his stuff now via Talkcrap radio apparently, I class myself above that trash, please tune into something else, you are also above that muck

Maybe there is something that I'm missing here...

But it seems to me that Per Mertesacker is a solid defender yet lacks pace, which some think is his fatal flaw. Some might say his lack of pace makes him worse than other defenders.

Can't he just work on his pace? Can't he just make himself faster/more agile?

A tall, strong and agile defender is a nightmare to play against.

Nick.

Believable2 Unbelievable12

You can't teach pace.

Agree16 Disagree0

John Terry lack pace too, but he was the best defender two- three yeras ago. Besides that I think PM4 is better than him, bacause he must play with our high line this season is performing brilliant... If Verm was in his usual form, our defence would be unbreakable...

Agree7 Disagree1

Defenders such as Mertesacker relies on positional sense & good distribution. However, if you are going to play a high line, you need truly rapid defenders. Last season when AVB played a high line with Chelsea, John Terry was getting slaughtered for pace, hence the mauling he got when we beat them 5-3 at the Bridge. Once Di Matteo was in charge, he reverted to a deeper defensive system, defending the 18 yard line & the rest is history.

Personally i think we should buy a CDM, a left back and a CAM and move cazorla on the right. The attacking mid should be just as good technically like santi (gotze, belhanda, hamsik, or even kaka who could go for cheap) and thank goodness the 5 signed their contracts. Now we jusy need sagna and walcott to do the same!!

Believable1 Unbelievable6

I think you'll find that the other night Santi proved his best position is NOT on the right/wing but behind the striker.

Agree10 Disagree1

Cazorla is a player that not only plays behind the striker but EVERYWHERE in midfield and attack. so yes he can play on the right wing nd he should

Agree1 Disagree4

Just because he CAN play right that does'nt make it his best position, he played his best position against Reading and it was NOT on the right.

Why are people so obsessed with deciding where to play our players other than where they are best.

I suppose you are one of the play TV5 at left back crew?

Agree3 Disagree0

Good idea pal, move our best player and move him out wide were he won't have as much influence on the game. And your droppin the ox or theo too? good one maaaaaaaaaaaaate

20 Dec 2012 00:50:16
thinking about the five new contracts maybe things are changing money wise with arsenal. if we never got a new and better deal on sponsorship do you think this still would of happened. Now it seems we do have the money to do so and arsenal are doing things with it hopefully we will see some good things happen on the transfer front. Fingers crossed.

So who're we looking to draw tomorrow?

Obviously Malaga are the obvious pick but I don't think PSG are all that either. The other 4 are nightmare draws but I really dont want to face Barca again. The novelty has worn off and I dont really want to play against Fabregas. Plus the fact they'd **** us.

Bayern, Dortmund and Juventus are equally bad draws imo. All stronger sides but also beatable if we play our game. But either German team would be epic for the atmosphere and I might try to wing a couple of tickets for Allianz Arena if we draw Munich. One of the best cities to travel to for football and a booze up I imagine.

So for me its Malaga>PSG>Bayern>Dortmund>Juventus>Barca
Eman

Believable5 Unbelievable0

Completely agree. Malaga are the weakest and travelling there would make a good holiday as well. :)

StEvE

Agree6 Disagree0

I wouldnt underestimate Malaga too much, as they have a talented team, but we have a good record v Juventus, so I wouldnt mind them, and Dortmund are not strong at the back.

Er, PSG aren't all that ? Two words my friend: Zlatan Ibrahimovic. On his day he can destroy any opposition as we saw with his performance against England.
