the ed has already stated we won't spend over our valuation. it looks like our team is set and we are going to be playing catch up with spurs and then pip them to it and make it seem like the season was worth it. shambles. if there are no further signings then it can only mean wenger out.

20 Jul 2016 18:36:18
Mario Gomez anybody? He could probably net 20 odd goals and wouldn't be that expensive.

Believable0 Unbelievable4

20 Jul 2016 19:24:38
Wenger once described him as" a great finisher who is often in the right place to finish off moves"
Great stats pre and post Florentinia so why not?

Hi guys what would your thoughts be on arsenal signing the CV cacares he is a free agent and can play as rb aswell what I seen of him he ain't bad.

Believable0 Unbelievable4

20 Jul 2016 16:54:17
We have lots of players that ain't that bad . Where does ain't that bad scale just above or just bellow ok?

20 Jul 2016 23:02:47
Above he is better than the cb we have apart from kos.

20 Jul 2016 16:07:45
I know the Ox had a very poor season last season even without injuries he was pretty awful but that's his first poor season he's had and IMO should be retained for another year atleast.
The lad lacks confidence and takes all his mistakes to heart, look at when Gibbs got sent off instead of him by mistake he had to be subbed because he felt so bad.
He has the ability and always puts in a shift so just needs a bit of a hand coping with his own mistakes.

20 Jul 2016 19:02:49
He's pants mate.

Agree0 Disagree2

20 Jul 2016 19:35:18
It's because of avarage player's like Ox that we never win anything.

Decent player, good to have coming off the bench, but no more than that.

Agree1 Disagree1

20 Jul 2016 21:55:05
22 years old one poor season? Your a tough bloke Dagala:-)

Agree1 Disagree1

{Ed041's Note - that's the only time tough and dags has been mentioned in the same sentence :)

21 Jul 2016 15:18:13
If the Ox was somewhere else, I think we'd be watching him flourish. I can't help but start to think that being at Arsenal holds some players back.

Agree1 Disagree0

20 Jul 2016 15:44:40
Last time i checked spurs were 2nd on the table and then we managed to beat them to the 2nd spot.
I would like spurs to grab the 1st spot this coming season and that'd mean we'll beat them to the first spot too.
We always finish above them for fun.
Raver look away mate.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

20 Jul 2016 16:16:22
You haven't read the small print in the players contracts Willy, finish above Spurs and top 4 is all it says, no mention of actually winning it mate :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Jul 2016 17:24:37
Willy that's small club mentality even though you are not a small club, I think mourinho said Arsenal are not winning or doing anything as all they care about is spurs .

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Jul 2016 15:20:20
I don't know about you guys, but I am not sure about Icardi. He scores between 10 and 20 goals per season. Deeney, Gale or Austin would be cheaper and would score the same amount or maybe more.

Believable0 Unbelievable2

20 Jul 2016 15:54:29
Icardi is in my opinion not taking this team forward. Good player but not great. Cheap option again, not the best option. It will probably mean we rely on giroud more than we should be and that's not improving. I do hope its media bs. Apparently he is after a better contract at inter, this could be a way he gets one.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Jul 2016 16:26:10
Would prefer Hernandez or Lucas Perez if we're going for cheaper options.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Jul 2016 16:48:34
I don't think we have the option of not going for the cheaper option to be fair, the best more expensive players don't want come to us at the moment.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Jul 2016 16:52:36
It worries me hearing our fans on here and over social media that we've actually developed a habit of pre judging. Arsene has already failed this season. Xhaka won't be as good as Kante we should've gone for him. Icardi won't be good enough. We should really get behind our boys more.

Remember when we signed welbeck. How our fans reacted? Now we're gutted he's injured. Let's just give our new players a chance yea!

Agree4 Disagree3

20 Jul 2016 17:17:35
Totally agree guys. Although I can't think of a good 25 plus a season striker that would be availble and want to come to us. If Giroud was playing for somebody else he would be a decent target. Xhaka is quality though.

Agree1 Disagree2

20 Jul 2016 17:17:38
If you had a fan poll of all over 19 clubs and offered them Kante or Xhaka i'm pretty sure all 19 would choose Kante and why not? The man was unbelievably brilliant in the premier league last season and Xhaka and all other new signings will struggle to match that standard this season, so who wouldn't chose the man that has over a man that might
People say we have already failed this season? What's different this time round to suggest we won't do the same as always?
Danny played how many games last season? He did well in those game but would we swap him for Vardy or Kane? Of course we would.
You can't just expect people to be optimistic about us being competitive without giving them a reasons to feel that way.
Just to say because we're Arsenal fans so we have to think Arsenal will win the league is silly.

Agree1 Disagree0

20 Jul 2016 20:51:31
Looking at Icardi, on the surface his stats seem pretty identical to Giroud's. However, their main difference is their conversion rate (Icardi's is considerably better) . To give some perspective, based on his conversion rate, with the number of chances Giroud had last season Icardi would have scored roughly 28 goals. He might not be the best option, but he's certainly not a bad one!

Agree1 Disagree1

20 Jul 2016 21:34:32
Yes kante should of been first choice.

Agree1 Disagree0

21 Jul 2016 03:23:44
I'd take Xhaka over Kante any day of the week, that lad is going to become a leader in this team.

I think Icardi is a very nice signing too, he's only 22 and already Inter's captain and scored a bunch of goals in a defensive league.

Icardi + 1 more and we can do something.

Agree0 Disagree1

21 Jul 2016 15:25:11
I wouldn't take Vardy or Kane over that guy, neither would Roy (although that doesn't help my point as Roy is shhh) .

Would be nice to have Kante but when teams like Chelsea are after him, what makes you think any player would pick us? Money? Nope. Trophies? Nope.

hi eds

i have seen a few runoures on social media saying wenger is breking the bank and signing reus and Aubameyang some seem to be realible sources, is there any truth to this, have you heard anything?
would be great if true.

Believable0 Unbelievable6

20 Jul 2016 13:45:11
It would be exiting if true but I think we all know it's not actually going to happen spanner mate, mind you I said that about Ozil a few days before we signed him :-)

20 Jul 2016 13:40:11
THis is because one tweet made reference to a 'mega' signing.

Apparent #CF = Aubameyang.

You are spot on mate
But when spurs go for a player the me plies to you only throw in us and Liverpool.
Cant imagine you trophy room is a big selling point.
Raver what's it like to have a club, you hate having a manager that has won more than you club/

This Icardi nonsse is driving mecrazy, do journalists not even have the attention span needed to read an entire quote?!

The original quote from Wanda was in summary the following:

"Lots of clubs interested, but we are focused on contract negotiations at Inter.

Mauro loves the club and I am pregnant and don't really want to move right now. "

This has now become Wanda flying to London. really.

It's quite odd that Mertesacker will be named captain for the forthcoming season. Presumably this means that we are not in the market for a top CB and that Mertesacker will be consider first choice alongside Koscielny. Bach up, presumably will be Gabriel and Chambers, with Rob Holding (assuming he signs) , will be one for next season, when Mertesacker's contract expires. That begs the question, who will provide cover at RB? Chambers has been moved to CB, as his performances at RB were poor. Jenkinson is in juried until Novemeber and isn't considered good enough. Debuchy was allowed to go out n loan last season and appears to be on the way out. Is Rob Holding able to cover at RB?

Believable1 Unbelievable5

20 Jul 2016 10:51:25
Making Mert Captain does not mean he will be first choice pick, Arteta was captain last year and hardly played. Some clubs have club captains and then team captains.
John Terry could well find that although he is club captain this season he does not get much time on the pitch so means nothing about playing time.
He is one of the most senior players at the club, has won major trophies and seems a calm figure to all in all a good choice.

Agree3 Disagree0

20 Jul 2016 11:57:34
Alright lads, Chelsea fan here in peace. I find it quite an odd decision to make Mertesacker captain also as I don't believe he'll get much game time for Arsenal in the coming seasons. Difference between JT and Mert being club captains is that JT has been club captain for over 10 years so taking it away just because he is no longer first choice would be frowned upon. However, Mertesacker has only just been named captain so it's quite an odd choice.

Agree1 Disagree0

20 Jul 2016 12:43:16
I think it's Arsene way of compensating Mertesacker for not playing regularly, he does like to keep everyone happy as he did by playing Ospina Debuchy and co in the opening two champions league games last season and only changed his mind when we lost those games.
In a Sunday pub team of mates who play for fun that's to be applauded but in a professional set not so great.
I think Arsenes biggest weakness is he's to close to his players and doesn't like upsetting them which makes him a really nice man but not such a great manager, Flamini Rosicky Artetta last season Diarby before that plus not signing players who will get in the way of Jack Olly and Theo all points to loyalty at the expense of success.
As I've said many times before I really like Arsene Wenger as a person and if he went to say Liverpool where he had no personal connection to the players there I think we would see the best of him as a manager again, but at Arsenal he's got to close to everyone which clouds his decisions, unfortunately.

20 Jul 2016 13:51:55
For me mertesaker is one of the worst defenders in the league, harry Kane will be rubbing his hands again this season as he has destroyed him every time.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Jul 2016 14:10:28
You are right there raver, I hope we play you when the heat is on, end of season when youve got second wrapped up like last season or a semi final or final when those wobbly legs start shaking again, a song has just come into my head, queen, under pressure, it does everytime you come on this site now, don't know why.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Jul 2016 17:34:26
The song that comes into my head is m people moving on up, as when I see all the classy young players at my club in Kane, Ali, etc and the biggest stadium in London being built.

Last season there was a big buzz about Chicharito. What is your view on him as a potential signing?

For CB, I do not think we really need to pay obscene amounts. But rather get someone reliable. What is your take on the following:
Hoewedes
Ashley Williams

I do not know the situations of the above mentioned players. Maybe they have signed new contracts, maybe they hate Arsenal, I honestly have no idea. I am speaking from an "If wishes were horses. " standpoint but all wihin reasonable financial limits.
