Just wondering how many players you think we will sign between now and the end of the window? I personally think it will be 2 . 3 if Sanchez leaves. Personally if PSG offered anywhere near 50mil and we could bring in mahrez AND lemar i'd be more then happy, I think it's important we trim the squad aswell and get a United bunch playing where everyone knows there place and the team is united. I can't be bothered with 3 bad results and suddenly Sanchez is sulking and waving hands in the air. Team moral is hugely under estimated and players with tantrums and attitudes can hurt the dressing room.

I belive we will do the following:

A right-wing back, if Ox departs. - possibly Mahrez
A replacement for Sanchez if he leaves - possibly Lemar

We appear to have plenty of cover in the other positions:
G: Cech, Martinez and Macey
RWB: Bellerin and Ox or a replacement, if sold.
LWB: Kolasinac and Monreal
CB: Mustafi, Gabriel, Holding, Mertesacker and Koscielny - Monreal and Kolasinac can provide cover.
DM: Xhaka, Coquelin and Elneney
AM: Ramsey, Walcott, Ozil and Sanchez (replacement if sold)
F: Welback, Lacazette and Giroud
That's 22 players, plus youngsters. In retrospect, we may make one or possibly two signings even if we keep Ox, Ozil and Sanchez, as the squad looks a tad light numerically, assuming the players I expect to depart actually leave. I haven't included Cazorla as he will be out for most of the season.

I forgot Iwobi and it's Welbeck, not Welback!

21 Jul 2017 07:24:49
Team moral is important but so is a winning mentality, Sanchez shows a desperation to be compete for top prizes while most of the rest really are top 4 focused and this is where the problems come from.
For Sanchez being the best is everything for the rest being the best would be nice but champions league football is enough either consciously or subconsciously, it's an whole club problem,
If we finish a distant 4th after missing out on champions league football this season the manager players and most fans will be happy.

Aloha fellow gooners. Just want to say, with all talk about past transfers and potential new players. Best piece of business done in last couple of years has been signing holding. Think this lad is going to be awesome. Value all your posts, even the miserable ones make me laugh 😁 πŸ‘.

Believable4 Unbelievable1

20 Jul 2017 23:15:39
Holding looks like a really good prospect, just hope people don't expect to much to soon from the lad.
John Stones two years ago was on the verge of becoming the best CB the country has seen for years but now and Belerin got some serious stick last season for not being the finished article simply because he couldn't carry people's expectations as high as they thought he should.

Agree2 Disagree1

21 Jul 2017 07:16:14
Yes, Holding was an excellent signing and he must be given more game time this season. With the EL, League Cup and FA Cup matches a possibility for him. At the end of next season Mertesacker retires and he can be brought through to form a trio with Koscielny and Mustafi.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jul 2017 08:41:18
Mustafi Kos and Monreal won't all stay fit and suspension free for the entire season so Holding will get his experience as and when it comes throughout the season.

20 Jul 2017 17:14:13
Ramsey if played in the right position will give us 10-15 goals per season which we haven't had since ljunberg and pires, get off his back, the kid is quality.

I agree beefy, but think its in ozils place, or perhaps alongside xhaka if xhaka was kante/ gueye. Lol

Similar for the ox, although i'm hoping the ox might get some time alongside xhaka and out wide When we switch to back 4 for some games.

20 Jul 2017 19:59:50
Aaron strikes me as sometimes playing for himself and not always the team, his fancy flicks are great when they come off but the amount of times he tries them costs us more goals than we gain.

20 Jul 2017 20:07:28
My problem is how long are we going to wait for the Ramsey we have seen in patches over the years to do it week in week out. Too inconsistent, mind you that could be said of a few more under achievers.

Agree3 Disagree0

20 Jul 2017 21:22:11
Not that it matters anymore, but the patches that Steve describes were with Arteta, much maligned, but an unsung hero in my opinion. He was super smart and selfless, covering from Ramsey and putting him in positions where he could thrive. He will need a complimentary (i. e. intelligent) partner like that to see those days again.

Agree1 Disagree0

20 Jul 2017 21:54:52
That's a very fair point Rooster mate, Artetta was an excellent player for Arsenal his only problem was he was never the DM he was asked to be but he did the very best he could for the team in that role.
Ramsey works hard in the area's he enjoys playing in but doesn't show the same determination when asked to a job he's not keen on (defensively) .
He is suited to Ozils role but unfortunately for him Ozil is a lot better there.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Jul 2017 22:18:22
Ok for me Ramsey's best position is either in the Cazorla slot or Ozil, if you're telling me he is even for to lace their boots you're wrong in my opinion.
If you want to win titles then Ramsey is a very good squad player but that's about it.

For me he always runs into trouble twisting and turning when a pass is on I wouldn't lose any kip if he left should have sold him a few years ago when Barcelona were sniffing.

20 Jul 2017 23:11:09
I think the problem with Ramsey is he is too flash. His best season and games come when he plays it simple.

Saw the extended highlights. I think iwobi and petr cech were both excellent. kolasinac looks a little uncomfortable in that position. hopefully will get better with more games comin up. danny looks like he's getting back to form. ozil had some nice touches too. overall happy that we beat bayern even though its a friendly! Just a quick once again LOL
If WILSHIRE is not good enough to keep at
BOURNEMOUTH why would we want him at Arsenal? .
Secondly if Wilshire was at another club would Arsenal be wanting to sign him on? .
Of course NOT.
That says it all in my opinion. I would let him go for free. Matter of fact I would pay someone to take him and save the 80 grand a week.

Don't you mean Ramsey? 😁.

Agree1 Disagree1

20 Jul 2017 11:40:01
Would we pay 34 million for Xhaka again tomorrow?
What about 42 for Mesut?
Would we sign Theo Ramsey if they currently played for an opponent?
What about Mustafi would we pay 30 million for him again?
Where does it stop mate?
Jack's not the only one who hasn't lived up to what we hoped and hind sight if a luxury because it's in the main a pretty useless asset,
Few of us were against Jack staying 5 years back or signing Mesut or Theo or the most of the other at the time they joined us.
Lots of signings and lots of players haven't worked out as we'd all have liked not just Jack.

Agree0 Disagree1

20 Jul 2017 12:15:58
G62, I don't see how Mustafi hasn't worked out. I quite like him in the team. Also, I think people will start seeing the better side of Xhaka this season. I believe the lad has quality in him.

Agree6 Disagree0

20 Jul 2017 12:46:48
Fair play Sharpie but do you think either have been worth the money we paid so far?
Regardless of whether you do or not most were happy at the time of signing them and pleased to see the club investing in players and some who think both have a disappointment so far might change their mind by next May.
My point is having the foresight to accurately predict how things will go is a valuable commodity that people will pay a fortune to get hold of but the ability to be wise after the event isn't in such high demand for some reason :-)
Jack signing a long term deal 5 years back had everyone excited and no one that I can remember was recommending we sold him off back then despite City and others being extremely keen to take him off our hands at the time.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Jul 2017 13:40:28
G62, I know, from reading your posts here, that you're not a great believer in statistics. I on the other hand depend on statistics quite heavily for work. The science behind stats, when used professionally is quite revealing. Obviously that doesn't mean that you'll always arrive at the correct answer but it does mean that you'll be rather close.

When you use stats like, player X scored 20 goals last season to try and conclude that he'll score 20 this season, it simply won't work. Statistics come into their own, when used properly, to analyse large quantities of data. I am guessing almost all clubs, in fact all professional sports teams around the globe, use stats to identify players. Does it work every time? Of course not, but it's one of many tools used to reduce making incorrect buying decisions.

Unlike many, I won't make an assessment on Xhaka just yet because I sincerely think he hasn't yet had the chance to prove himself. Some players take a little longer to gel. Mustafi on the other hand looked good to me from the get go and I reckon will be great come the new season.

As for Jack, I really hate to say it, but he's had his chance and maybe it is time for him to move on. Things could have been so different if he wasn't so injury prone. Under all that glass lies an exceptionally talented player and that's what we bought.

If there's any typos, sorry. I don't have the time to proofread just now.

Agree1 Disagree1

20 Jul 2017 17:08:30
Whoo sharpie and who does your proofreading, your PA. Lol. I just got a new phone and the predict text is a nightmare. I am at war with it. I swear it changes after I press send.

Agree1 Disagree0

20 Jul 2017 20:13:18
Hi Sharpie no I'm not a huge fan of stats in telling anything like the full story in football mate although I recognize in some businesses they are more useful in predicting spending trends ect.
Olly on paper is a prolific goalscorer but in reality Arsenal fans have been wanting an upgrade on Giroud for years simply because he misses so many quality chances in so many games.
Xhaka wouldn't be the first to win people over after a bad start but last season is all I can go on and he wasn't included in the list of the premier league worst buys of the season for no reason mate, as Dick Emery used to say " he was awaful, but a lot of people like him"

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Jul 2017 22:29:22
The yards yardstick that says how good a player is is often what fans of other teams think and I don't know any who rate xhaka or mustaffi. Now sanchez they all want him.

Ok boys it's the afternoon here just got up.
I had a knock on the door this morning it was Al Lacca. He was moaning about Giroud saying that OG was going around saying he was rubbish and has only scored a tap in and that was against Sydney who wouldn't even make it in League 1 in England. What could I say? I just said to him don't take any notice mate maybe you need a bit of time it's early days yet.
No training today Arsene has given them a bit of a rest today so they can go sightseeing later. They are already squabbling about who's going to sit near the window on the coach.
Kolasinac, Mert, and Giroud have been banned from the trip today as they have been on the toilet for the past 24 hours.
Kolasinac gave Reiss Nelson a clip round the ear because Reiss laughed when he got taken off yesterday. Evidently Reiss noticed that Kolasinac had followed through in his shorts on the pitch. It was well embarrassing. The medical team have put it down to a dodgy Chinese takeaway they all had.
Wilshire has been given a right telling off on the phone by Wenger because he keeps ringing up at all hours to find out if they have got his fags yet.
Sanchez. We heard Arsene in his room yesterday he had left the door open slightly he was crying his eyes out.
"Alexis Alexis please don't go just tell me what you want. Even if you want to play in goal you can. I will give you anything to stay
everybody loves you Alexis "
It was so embarrassing .
Then Giroud shouts out " Tell him to F Off "
Then runs down the hallway laughing his head off .
Anyway I'm off on the sightseeing tour with the boys now. Tell you what my guts feel a bit dodgy too this morning. Speak soon.
Have a good day.

Firstly well done to Wenger and the team for beating Bayern and to Martinez for saving 2 penalties. I believe Martinez will step up to number two and Macey will become our third choice assuming Ospina departs. On to departures, it looks like quite a few players will depart and this is long overdue as some players have over-stayed at the club, often due to high wages that other clubs are unable to match. Ospina has wanted out for a while, but many clubs can't pay a fee and his wages. The same goes for Debuchy, Jenkinson, Gibbs, Perez, Chambers, Wilshere, Sanago (now departed) and Campbell. There has long been a saying that a club must change 3 or 4 main players every season or their manager every 3 seasons, to keep things fresh. If we can sell the above mentioned players and bring in 2 or 3 more players, the squad will benefit enormously and fans will look forward to the new season, being able to see new faces at the club. Hopefully we can keep hold of Ox, Ozil and Sanchez.

Derby, agreed! I think we're about 4-5 players away from being a formidable side. Might not happen this season but I'll be quietly happy if we're in the frame or thereabouts.

Where do you think we need to strengthen?
